Of course Olivia would be your queen, I mean, how could it not?? She's also a pretty important supporting character as well as an elite four in addition to an island trial leader, so I think GF also knew they hit the right switch with her, with the fact she would be popular! And you really had withdrawals from the YGO! fit review when getting to Ryuki 😂😂😂 Also, on defense of Lillie's second outfit, which I also personally think is not as cute or cool as her first one. But I think it just makes sense as that's the cutesy clothes her mother (Lusamine) chose for her to wear as her personal dressing doll, so to speak. By the end of Sun and Moon, she decides to turn that page, go a bit independent, and just because that "lore" reason I think is fine since it definitely gives some more go-easy and juvenile vibes than the other one that looked almost too mature for her age. But ultimately I agree that they could have gone a different direction, or just try different colour combinations for the fit to signify even more change, some patterns on the hoodie or skirt, or just straight up adding some kind of cap or hair accessory that replaced her pretty much flagship hat she had on her first fit! Anyhoo, great vid as ush, keep slayin it~!
Pinning this one - because you aren't just parroting a "defense" for Lillie's style devolution, but at least also thinking beyond that and providing ideas for more interesting design. Like, we get it - Lusamine mean mom, Lillie free now - we 👏🏽 get 👏🏽 it 👏🏽 Moving past the focus on the child . . . YES, GF did wonders with Olivia. A strong adult character design that absolutely has massive appeal. That's who we should really be talking about 😏🥰 And glad I caught Ryuki - even though I appreciate the laid-back island vibes of Alola, glad that someone could travel in and bring classic Pokemon camp ✨️👌🏽
At first I didn’t get why Kahili was a golfer who uses flying type pokemon, but then I realized “oh yeah, they use bird names for golf terms like birdie, eagle, and condor.”
the thing with Lillie 1st design is that is what her mother (Lusamine) made her wear, Lusamine is controlling and overwhelming and that outfit heavily resembles Nihilego, the Ultra Beast Lusamine is obsessed with her second design is a child picking their own clothes, letting go of her chains, like it is a downgrade but like intentionally so because a kid picked their own clothes this time instead of having their parent do it… so yea it is giving visual story telling
@@XDFWell, it's probably some of the first freedom she's ever had. Also, kids her age don't tend to wear complex outfits. Gladion is the older, teenage brother so his style is in line with a rebellious kid who doesn't want to do what his mom tells him to. That's why his outfit is more complex and has more going on.
and the new outfit has a sailor collar (sort of like a japanese sailor uniform) so to me it gives off the feeling of her no longer being tied to an ultrabeast and allowed to be just another schoolgirl wholl learn and make friends... so while it is not the best in a fashion sense, id say it feels pretty nice in a story sense (although i havent gotten to play s/m yet)
I was SO HAPPY seeing that you actually covered Ryuki because he's sooo underrated and obscure. I'm glad you saw his vision as well as you did. But yeah, Olivia clears this region. She's above pretty privileges, she's got MOTHER privileges.
I like how so much of Mina’s design goes all in on her being an artist. Her hair being dunked into paint, the paint just wiped off on her shirt, the paint across her face like she had to scratch her nose. If you’ve ever been to art school, you’ve had at least one of those things happen to you.
An Interesting thing about Hala, Olivia, Nanu, and Hapu The Yellow, Pink, Red, and Purple in their respective designs all have a reason in game lore. They are all chosen by the Guardian pokemon of their Island and those colors are the main color of those pokemon
We are getting fed today 😋 as someone who lives in a hotter climate, I'm always stumped on how to elevate my plain (yet comfy) outfits. The watches, belts, and bags were all such great lightweight suggestions - thanks for the inspo 🙀😸
I wear a black t-shirt, blue jeans and white Converse pretty much every day and still yours is probably my favorite channel on RUclips, love you so much X
Something that i always wonder with Pokemon is what comes first ? The Trainer or The Pokemon? Lillie is a great example of that. Her long dress, her big hat and the fact that is completely monocromatic is quite interesting. The reason for her outfit is the folowing: Lusamine ( leader of the Aether Foundation, i hope you remember her) is Lillie's mother and she used to choose Lillie's clothing specially to resemble the Pokemon Nihilego. So while i understand you prefer the first outfit, the second one represent Lillie's own independence.
Meant to respond earlier but I’m glad you appreciate Kahili she’s such an underrated character in Pokémon so I’m glad you’re giving her flowers 😄 justice for my girl!
I think the lack of personal style in Anabel’s latest outfit could have been intentional to tie into her story of being transported without any recollection of her past and sorta just working because that’s all she knows (though that doesn’t make the suit any less basic lol)
I beg to differ, since it's her work outfit, you can still see some personal things in a subtle manner. She has these like lil buttons on her gloves and she probably chose the heel-boots herself (that also have little oval buttons on their sides). And the cuteness of the bow to clash on a professional outfit is small yet says a lot! She is rebuilding herself, but in a decade she's been super passionate about her job and what she does, so her suit is indeed a mix of her profession and her personal style. She just likes to be subtle about it, showing that she hasn't entirely lost who she used to be.
One thing I like about Elio's first design is that the colours are going for an inversion of Red's look. Red's primary colours for his outfit were Red and White, in contrast with Elio's Blue and Black. Considering this game was meant to be the 25th anniversary game, I wonder if that was intentional.
Rahhhh Ryuki!!!! Such an underrated character. Drip is immaculate. Also, maybe one of the reasons he has such a distinct dramatic fashion sense compared to the other Alolans is cuz in game he’s actually not from Alola. He’s from Kanto, and moved to Alola to open up a more traditional style “Kantonian Gym” (in Alola there are no gyms or gym leaders. Instead there’s trial captains and kahunas for the “island challenge”).
This might be an interesting poke fashion idea but it would be interesting seeing the evolution of fashion of no named NPCs throughout the series. They often use the same title for npc, but alter their look for each region making them feel like a native of said region. So seeing the difference of how one can present the same trainer class and how their fashion might adapt to each region.
One of the reason why Olivia is on point in the accesory part is because she is a jeweler. And Accerola is flat broke and live in an orphanage and her gold bracelet is a really old family heirloom. Kahili and Molayne are Alolan trainer who have gone to other region after successfully completed the island trials and they got called back by Kukui to form a pokemon league to Alola which is why both they'rr outfit are more urban compared to the island outfut of the other. (And Kyawe would absolutely take some kinda light vest as his outfit his because his trial take place where he is training in traditional dance with his marrowak and we see him with a store clerk outfit because when he is working his part time)
Heey, I absolutely love your videos! I was wondering if you could do one with a nostalgic, awesome and really well dressed anime hahah anime: Beyblade (classic), Beyblade V-Force and Beyblade G-Revolution I think you will like how thw protagonists grow and change styles as the anime progress, I think it's a very stylish anime! :) 🤟
For as much flack Sun/Moon/UltraSun/UltraMoon get for being too dialogue-heavy and “hand-holdy” in the early game, I really did fall in love with the region, characters, and themes the games represent. Sinnoh was my first game but Alola has burrowed its way into the spot of my favorite Pokemon region and games. Edit: Sophocles is pronounced as saa·fuh·kleez
About Lillie her first outfit was picked out by her Uber controlling mother (Lusamine) and is her being still in her shadow the second outfit is her finally growing out of it and letting loose
despite lusamine’s lusamine-ing she did know how to style outfits wonderfully.. i Love both of Lillie’s designs but her newer one is a little below the og for me ;^_^ wish they maybe kept the lace details, but made it more colorful, or changed the silhouette up somehow. i also miss her big ol hat it was fun…
hey X, just saying i LOVE your content, it has become my comfort content to watch, i love when you say “hello, my name is X”, i even love the fighting game analysis, even though i don’t really play them. Great stuff!!
You mentioned giving Mina a sort of necklace or bracelet. I would say what would be funny is to just give her a little Comfey charm, or hell, an entire Comfey to wear, because Comfey is fairy type and Alolan! I think it’d fit well.
little fun fact for you about Mina and Ilima: it is generally assumed (and maybe confirmed?) that the types they represent were swapped late-ish during development as to not associate the fairy type with Ilima who is queer coded. Mina was probably supposed to have a Smeargle on her team to tie into the painter theme.
You didn't even go over some of the best outfits: Lusamine, Gladion, and Guzma. Their outfits had a ton of character and they were main characters. You should do a part 2 for the Ultra Sun/Moon games.
Hey, new viewer here, really enjoying your content- may I suggest putting your videos in playlists? It makes it so much easier to binge watch especially when you have so many from the same franchise
When you described Ilima's style as "simple" and "clean", it reminded me of a suggestion I wanted to make: Perhaps you could critique the clothing styles in the Kingdom Hearts series. 🗝 Also, fun bit about the kahunas: Each island has a corresponding color, and each kahuna is wearing the color relating to their island. For Hala, it's yellow, Olivia, pink. Nanu, red. And Hapu, purple.
Hey I would like to hear you explore what the clothes say about the character in terms of personality and story. Please talk about shape language and color usage! I really wanted a video to talk about fashion history in relation to character design for video games!
Fun fact, according to the recent leaks, ryuki is from johto. Given his extraness and dragon specialty, there's a non-zero chance he's related to clair and lance. The drama must run in the family.
I think the sandal you picked out for Lana is nice if we're thinking of how to elevate the fit but honestly I think like, Auntie flip flops suit the fisherman character running around Brooklet Hill better because you don't want to be wearing cute things in that environment. If I were running around back home in the tropics in a muddy area I would absolutely not want to be wearing my nicest sandals
Also Hapu's purple ties nicely into her island (Poni Island) meaning "Purple Island" in Hawaiian and it's the same shape of purple/a similar pattern to the Island Guardian (Tapu Fini)
Gen 7 (Alola) is one of my favorite generations in the series but sadly the character designs are one of the weaker aspects of the gen which I think is something you picked up on here. The big exception is Team Skull and the Aether Foundation, I think they went crazy hard with those groups. I'm a big fan of the Ultra Recon Squad too but I think I might be biased by the novelty of what are basically alien techno elves in Pokemon lol. I have my gripes with gen 8 (Galar) but can't deny they stepped up their character design game. Except for the main villain, ironically 🙄
Im sorry but Imo you should probably try to look into context a bit more lmao. I get that it's subjective and yeah Lillie's second design is very simple but I really don't think it would work storytelling wise for someone to look more casual and sporty and then go to frilly laces and dresses. Maybe by "wish x character started with *redesign* and then changed to *original look*" you mean to say you wish said redesign would just have more, general 'stuff' or details or accessories etc. Plus Lanas tank top isnt rly a tank top, it's more a sailor top. And the reason Olivia has so many jewlery is bc she owns a jewlery store! Also I like to think Kiawe would only wear that vest indoors or when its cold or when someone tells him to put on a shirt hehe.
@@XDF Ah ok, sry for the misunderstanding. Again probably just different priorities. With that said I do admittedly agree that Lillie's initial design is stronger and more *interesting*, and I also wish her newer look was more drastic than a ponytail.
20:43 I disagree with the belt on Acerola, i loooove the cloak shape of her dress for her Ghost typing. So many characters have their body shapes accentuated by their clothes in this game, but I like that hers is hidden. Not only do I personally love a tent dress but I love how cutesy it is on a young girl. The shape in my mind is akin to like 1960s or maybe even 1920s sheath dresses, it feels a crime to belt something thats intended shape is shapeless. Maaaaaybe if it were at a high empire waist level so that the shape of the skirt isn't lost and adds a creepy doll flair? Personally I'd counter-offer a matching anklet on opposing side of her bracelet, It evens out the top heavy weight distribution of gold and also matches the scrappy uneven lines of the patchwork. Why not see if you can fit a bracelet around your ankle? Even better if its hinged, that way she doesn't have to worry about getting stuck and losing half a set.
The kind of very thin belt shown isn't going to cinch the waist that dramatically, so hardly a crime. But an anklet is cute too. As I've said multiple times in my other videos, love a belted top, so a consistent narrative on my part.
I'm curious what you think of the antagonists, team skull, Lusamine, Gladion, the ultra recon squad... They have some of the most standout fits from this gen.
This is definitely my least favorite gen in Pok#emon, liked the concept itself but really didn't like much about the games, still glad I powered through and encountered Olivia in the end. Absolutely worth the struggle 🤩
I think this is the weakest region we have review right??? There 3 outfits for me that are to high than the others. But hey, at least we have something.
I love these videos but something I'm noticing is that you just take the outfits at face value and not take into consideration the contexts, personalities and vibes of the characters, not every character will be a fashion influencer, Looker is a broke, basic, simple-minded, middle-aged detective, he's not going to wear a designer blouse, he's going to wear a basic, stereotypical detective outfit Lillie is going to wear a really basic sporty outfit because she's finally being herself after being controlled by her mother, so after being forced to always dress like her mother wanted, she just wants to wear a simple, minimal outfit that makes her feel free and light, she could even hate the concept of fashion after being traumatized from it, maybe she doesn't even know how to dress-up after dressing with clothes her mother chose all her life You have to take these things in consideration when you design characters, you have to think like the character thinks, not like a fashion designer thinks For example, I like what you did with Molayne, I thought you were going to choose some super extra designer metallic shoes but you just chose some simple sneakers with a silver fabric, which would be perfect for an awkward nerdy dude that maybe is trying to look a bit cooler (I would prefer that so much over what he's wearing tbh)
Thanks for the feedback. I've expressed a few times across videos that I literally take characters at face value. You are free to disagree with choices - but these exercises are based on what I believe upgrade their style. Fictional budgets don't matter to me. 👌🏽
Of course Olivia would be your queen, I mean, how could it not?? She's also a pretty important supporting character as well as an elite four in addition to an island trial leader, so I think GF also knew they hit the right switch with her, with the fact she would be popular!

Also in her defense, having Lillie stay in white and faded pink gives her a Ying yang theme with her brother who is bold black and red
At first I didn’t get why Kahili was a golfer who uses flying type pokemon, but then I realized “oh yeah, they use bird names for golf terms like birdie, eagle, and condor.”
I cut out the part mentioning how being a golf girl just further adds to her perfection - glad someone gets it 👌🏽
@ it is a clever way to think outside of the box since most people will think pilot for a flying gym leader/elite four.
Plus, a golfer probably needs a good understanding of aerodynamics.
There was some cut content with golfing too iirc

@@stormRed Already covered those
@XDF Ah I must've forgot, cool!
i want you to talk about scarlet and violet SO BAD
Already did
Not sure anyone has said this so please forgive me if i’m sounding like a broken record, however Sophocles is pronounced soff-uh-kleese
Got it - ty
Damn no villain mentions
Separate video....
I gotta assume u didn't play the game atp
No need to assume when I mention it multiple times
This is definitely my least favorite gen in Pok#emon, liked the concept itself but really didn't like much about the games, still glad I powered through and encountered Olivia in the end. Absolutely worth the struggle 🤩
Bestie woke me up because X dropped a pokemon fashion analysis video 😆🫶 Love your outfit in this vid as well, absolutely served with the gold belt 🤌
Thank you
I think this is the weakest region we have review right??? There 3 outfits for me that are to high than the others. But hey, at least we have something.
I think it might be - some solid looks sprinkled throughout - but yeah, other regions have done it better.
I love these videos but something I'm noticing is that you just take the outfits at face value and not take into consideration the contexts, personalities and vibes of the characters, not every character will be a fashion influencer, Looker is a broke, basic, simple-minded, middle-aged detective, he's not going to wear a designer blouse, he's going to wear a basic, stereotypical detective outfit
Lillie is going to wear a really basic sporty outfit because she's finally being herself after being controlled by her mother, so after being forced to always dress like her mother wanted, she just wants to wear a simple, minimal outfit that makes her feel free and light, she could even hate the concept of fashion after being traumatized from it, maybe she doesn't even know how to dress-up after dressing with clothes her mother chose all her life
You have to take these things in consideration when you design characters, you have to think like the character thinks, not like a fashion designer thinks
For example, I like what you did with Molayne, I thought you were going to choose some super extra designer metallic shoes but you just chose some simple sneakers with a silver fabric, which would be perfect for an awkward nerdy dude that maybe is trying to look a bit cooler (I would prefer that so much over what he's wearing tbh)
Thanks for the feedback. I've expressed a few times across videos that I literally take characters at face value. You are free to disagree with choices - but these exercises are based on what I believe upgrade their style. Fictional budgets don't matter to me. 👌🏽
