@@TanukiType I heard MSG: Hathaway was truly amazing and have 2 more movie following. You probably already saw the movie already but the storyline plot is all about Bright and Mirai Yashima-Noa's son Hathaway Noa now all grown up... Mobile Fighter G Gundam is definitely not my favorite show because it sucks no offense. I like my Gundam shows with a lot of suspense military espionage thriller and not a Shonen Battle Royale. My entry point was Gundam Wing back in the early 2000s. Since then, I’ve seen Endless Waltz, 08th MS Team, Char’s Counterattack, G, SEED, 0080, 0083, SD Gundam Force, Build Divers, Build Divers Re:Rise, the first season of Witch from Mercury, 00, and my personal favorite Iron-Blooded Orphans.
43:25 isn't that what they kind of implied for BOTW in relation to the 3 timelines in the Zelda timeline. That regardless, all 3 timelines end up being BOTW?
When I first got into anime in the late 90s, the first full anime series I ever watched was Toonami's first broadcast of Gundam Wing. I managed to tape the entire series and I still have those tapes somewhere. I had already been turned on to serialized storytelling by way of the 90s X-Men cartoon and I was impressed that Gundam Wing was even more mature than that show (in the sense that it told a complex story with lots of twists and turns and loads of subplots and expected the viewer to keep up). Not long after that, I watched the Adult Swim broadcast of Gundam 0083 and at that point I was hooked on the franchise for life.

Awesome video and really informative. I'd love to see you do more in-depth reviews of the singular series or even other animes. I also really like your somewhat frantic (but well-edited) video style. @TanukiType Cool. I'd be interested in a Transformers video. Im not a big fan overall, but it seems to have enough lore to make for an interesting lore/timeline video.

42:15 its funny because Gundam F91 was created, in a way, to make smaller Gundams so they could cut down on plastic (I do like the cannon reasons for the smaller mobile suits in F91 though) but they forgot that if they change the size, they have to change the molds, meaning they couldn't re use any of the previous molds for the 'new' Gundam kits. So that eventually had to be scrapped. Turns out the big wigs ideas in regards to merchandise aren't really thought out very well............no surprise.
As someone who's entery series into Gundam was SEED when it was first coming out, you are 100%. I did end up liking it more then the original Mobile Suit Gundam.
Really good video, like most Western fans I came in with Gundam Wing. My mom got me this cool guidebook and it shown me so much nuance this series had. Even as a kid i loved the politics and realism of Gundam. Watching this brought me back to that, also love how casual and chill you were lol

The background theme is one from Xenoblade X, the one that plays in the BLADE barracks and that game got a ton of songs from Sawano Hiroyuki and he also got involved with some Gundam songs too so that’s nice
About "Turn A Gundam", you mentioned somewhere timetravel, kinda, which reminded me of another Anime. It's called "Super Dimension Century: Orgus", 80s, it's about some multiverse experiment shenanigans with different realities/timelines, mecha-warfare happens, and at the end realities kinda get mixed. I think in part only. Haven't watched it, was never released here in Germany or the UK, but I do know the OVA "Orgus 02" sequel. There they find buried mechs & that's how their tech get's better. The late, great Syd Mead designed the Gundam in Turn A. There's a whole book of his designs I think. Great video. I'm in ZZ now. I was planning to skip it until I saw this.
i think the gundam ibo artstyle is just how the original character designer herself draws, ive read one of her manga (koukoku no shugosha, if y'all are interested) and it basically looks the same as ibo's, so yeah. BUT i agree it looks kinda childish in a "old doraemon manga volume" kinda way, a cool way to signal to an older artstyle but making it more modern with the gorgeous colors and shading! ANYWAY THANKS for making this video!! Im still kinda new to gundam, im one of those people who got into the franchise thanks to gundam ibo (specifically its character design lmao) AND you offered perfect guidance for what to tackle next!
This video is just what I needed. I built my first gundam probably 7 years ago but only watched one of the shows for the first time about 2 years ago with Iron Blooded Orphans. Since then Ive tried watching other gundam shows since I really liked IBO, but the ones I picked at random struck me as incredibly corny and confusing. With this I finally have an understanding of the formatting and realized that all the ones I had attempted watching were not U.E. I am now watching the OG Mobile Suit Gundam and enjoying it decently. Its quite old and roug around the edges but I find it so much more enjoyable than Gundam Wing or SEED which I had attempted watching.
I’m actually looking to get into Gundam properly! I really wanna appreciate the world, the characters, and all the good stuff (and bad) that comes with it. I’m not picky at all. I’ve seen 00 and parts of Seed growing up but I really don’t remember much of either of them at all, it was a long time ago. But I do remember really enjoying them. So I been trying to find a proper guide that explains all the timelines with a proper watch order. So far I’m finding this video helpful and really insightful Hopefully there is a good written version somewhere you can recommend to bookmark as well? Also, I have the 1979 version you showed at the beginning on Blu-ray, but not Part 2 .. the manga for the Origin I also had as well but I lost them in a flooding.. I don’t deserve to get into the franchise .. 😅 I’m a collector of anime/manga so I’m definitely interested in collecting more
I recently started watching IBO after seeing The Witch from Mercury and decided to give this a look because I'm interested in watching more series after. Although I've been watching anime since the late 90s Gundam has always passed me by because it didn't really have much of a following in the UK when I was young and there is just so much to watch. After seeing this I think I'm going to tackle the UC timeline, Type-A and 00. It's really good to see a video that clearly explains what they are all about and the best ways to get into the franchise. ps - I'm definitely buying some Gunpla too.
Turn A Gundam reminds me of Stephen King's Mid-World which he connected some of his previous novels from different universes he created and blended them into one place.
Enjoyed the vid, especially the Tomino Talks. I got into Gundam during 2nd grade when Gundam Wing was aired in '98, then they aired G then X each year after that. I managed to watch 0079 in Animax in 2006 after I managed to watch Seed in 2004 at Cartoon Network, loved them both. Loved Seed for cultured reasons aside from the mech design. Saw the plot similarities with the two as an adult as I was learning how to analyze plot lines in shows. I definitely agree with Age, as my friend called it "UC for Kids" and with Build Fighters being "Valhalla" with 1 episode before the first series ended (Ep.23 I think.). For Build Fighters I liked it since it was reminiscent to a series I watched before called "Angelic Layer" where girls pit their dolls against each other in a miniature colosseum. It got me started into building Gunpla too.
Unfortunately with the way RUclips works, this video with its amount of views would still get recommended to people over a new and better version, so I'd rather just make supplemental videos in the meantime until this one becomes largely outdated. (The only thing that's sort of outdated as of right now is how I describe NT's and Hathaway's relevance to the watch order.)
Now I know how to watch it, thnx. Ironically I found this video, searching for the difference between the crunchyroll 0079 serie vs netflix movies ... beside those songs!
18:57 I think I'm one of the few outliers who didn't really care for Zeta Gundam. It brought up some interesting ideas but it seemingly recycled events/plotlines multiple times over the course of the series. Part of that was due to contractual obligations so we had a lot of space battles were nothing of significance happened. Making the repeated encounters seem more annoying then anything. It certainly wasn't BAD but I found myself more invested in 0083, ZZ and the first half or so of Victory.
0079 is enjoyable. And it's easy to follow. The parts where Char is missing do feel a bit slow, but Ramba Ral is enjoyable in his own right. I'd recommend the series, and on repeat watch the movies if you want.
Wow, this was very informative! I've watched the three movies on VHS when I was in my teens, but when I got older and someone pointed out it also was a full series I got the DVD set and also watched War in the Pocket and the 0083 Stardust Memories too when it came out of Cartoon Network's Toonami and bought the unedited version on DVD later. The 8th team was good too and liked the idea of a Non-newtype themed show and it just save a taste of how a Mobile Suit teams without someone like Amuro Ray among them fight against Zeon's invasion forces in the jungles in mass produced ground types units. (Note: the Love story was cool too) (Note: never knew about Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin and Thunderbolt and will end up looking for them... Thanks by the way) Then I watched the full series of Zeta Gundam and Double Zeta on DVD and after watching this I'm going to end up watching them again. (Note: Wasn't a big fan of the G-Fighter version) I also ended up watching Gundam Wing which had me interested at the beginning but stayed with it up to Endless Waltz.
My introduction to Gundam was IBO. Got the Graze Ein gunpla a long time ago but only got around to watching the whole show again after building a almost 30 more gunpla lmao.
Thank you for this video . I have no Idea about Gundam UC before because the first i ever seen is Gundam,G Gundam, and Gundam seed.. Thank you for this recommendations
At 43 Gundam has been around for my while life cycle and I just got into Gundam and The Origin really does help you as a starter then, 0079. thanks. oh if you drop a whole colony on a planet, you will always be the bad guy 😄
Give Seed a chance to finish it until Destiny and specially, they'll be releasing a new movie either at the end of 2023 or they might've changed the release date according to what I've heard to sometime around 2024. It also has a good story and animation to it just you'll hate Shinn Asuka (spoiler) and might curse him throughout the series 😅😂😂
I know this vid is a year old but, Hathaway's Flash is supposed to take place after Char's Counter Attack, this was before Unicorn or Narrative started years ago, in fact there are some events in CCA Altered for Hathaway's Flash
@TanukiType i am so lucky to have found this channel. This is an excellent video. I wish someone did something similarly good for Macross, because I barely know Macross, but I know Gundam better.
@@TanukiType I understand. I myself started with Macros plus. I suppose Macross Plus is the Gundam Wing of Macross. I also watched the film: Do you remember love (I think this is all the episodes into one feature film for original macross.) I am however Glad you did this Gundam Guide. I myself DId watch the film instead of the first original Gundam. I must admit it is becoming more difficult for me to watch old animes. It was easier for me in the past. The 90s seems to be what I like the most. And I did not like Gundam Unicorn.
Hey good video, but I would try to change your outlook on build fighters. I’m not trying to say it’s anything too deep but what it is isn’t a Pokémon style show, yes there’s tournament elements, but what the show really is is just a love letter to gunpla as a hobby in total that also shows mad love to the franchise of gundam. I think if you’re into gunpla I think u will really enjoy the show like I did.
I have watched all Gundams from Seed onward (except for Build Fighter). Are the shows before the year 2000 really worth my time? Since Im mostly an eyecandy watcher and older series kind of make me cringe with older animations.
I definitely recommend watching 0083 before Zeta. I bring that up because 0083 was my first foray into the UC. When I went back to the older series I discovered 0083 was made after Zeta and I thought. "Wait, Zeta released and no one was bothered with how the federation become so blatantly tyrannical and oppressive/corrupt so soon after Mobile suit Gundam (I mean they were never saints but DAMN that was fast). In retrospect 0083 answers that with "yeah they over corrected after Zeon remnants dropped ANOTHER colony on Earth." Was that ever brought up in Zeta or did that get retconned for 0083? I don't think I ever found out.
Very cool thank you for sharing my first Gundam show was Gundam Wing and my favorite one was the fighting one g I didn't know the name of it until you mentioned it on this video thank you for sharing! :-)
Correction: SEED was the first digitally coloured show. It was still heavily 2D animated. There are som 3D elements like the Colonies. But it was very much 2d animated I think you were referring to digital colouring instead of hand painted
Thus was cool, you really know a lot about gundam, I watched gundam wing as a kid and me and my brothers loved it, have tried to go back to it a couple time and just can't get into it, although trieze is awesome. Still haven't seen the tall goose everyone was talking about for a while.
Netflix has the original series compilation movies, Char's Counterattack, Unicorn, Hathaway, and Iron-Blooded Orphans last time I checked. Crunchyroll has the original series, Wing, 00, and G Gundam.
Do you agreed that is sort of the right order to watch the Mobile Suit Gundam UC Timeline including the movies, OVA and ONA⬇️ Mobile Suit Gundam UC Timeline ------------------------------------------------------- ◇The Orgin: Advent of the Red Comet ◇MSG {Movies 1-3} ◇Cucuruz Doan's Island {Movie} ◇The 08th MS Team ◇ War in the Pocket ◇Thunderbolt {Movies} ◇Stardust Memory ◇Zeta Gundam{ Skip Double Zeta} ◇ Char's Counterattack {Movie} ◇Unicorn RE: 0096 ◇Gundam Narrative {Movie} ◇Hathaway {Movie} ◇Gundam F91 {Movie} In my opinion I do not recommend myself to watching MSG in it fullest because most people like me don't really have time because of work and under priorities. Plus I'm not big of a fan for the monster/big guys of the week in my Gundam series. I just want a focus main story plot like the other MSG series with the political war suspense drama type. The movie pretty much help narrowing down that. Now I only wish that the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam movie was in English so I can do that as well😂 lol..... I will watch Zeta in it's fullest but I'm not going to watch Double Zeta since it's not that good.
I couldn’t get into the original MSG until I watched Origin first. Having the characters and world already established made everything feel a little less goofy, and made me realise why I should care about the Zabi, the fella with the silly glasses, and the war in general.
**noticing how the start of Awakening of the Trailblazer was a bit off** Me: "oh no" **seeing aliens at the tail end of Awakening of the Trailblazer** Me: "OH NO"
I started with Gundam build fighters try, so I watched build fighters and then divers. Then I found Seed Destiny, Seed and 00. I only watched the original MSG last year.
You know, SD gundam was also my introduction, I just didn't realize it was actually gundam until much, much later. I usually attribute my first to Seed instead because its the first one I actually understood as Gundam.
im a year late but just to make it worse for zeta gundam is when fa came to pick up zeta gundam she found the hatch open and saw a body in there it was kamille and it was implied that he has committed suicide after rosamias death so yeahh...
Macross is AKA robotech series is my favorite anime . Oh and if course Go Lion . I was never into Gundam and still not , but with that being said this is very informative video .
It's hard putting the ANIME Thunderbolt doesn't having advanced mobile suits. I haven't read the Manga. And even if they say it's an alternate UC they seem to go out of their way to keep it there....
Gundam zz did get. English releases but its lost media we only have half of episode 3 and 49...it would be amazing if somebody could find that lost media...got any explanation on twilight axis...the show is just a preview advertisement for the book
Great video! I’m really trying to dig into the series but I feel like I don’t have the time and money. I’m trying to go through the stuff on Netflix (comp movies and some other UC stuff). I just ordered the War in the Pocket blu ray off your recommendation!
I am (once reading probably finished) watching the film series and as a starting off point it's really good and fun to watch plus having it on Netflix makes it nice to watch as i can take a break easily all and all fun series
Can someone tell me if the chapters are working? They used to show up, but now they seem to be gone on my end.
Um.. I know this is really late but yeah, they're working.
@@mattr.1804 They only randomly started working again over the last few days. lol

Also, I have the 1979 version you showed at the beginning on Blu-ray, but not Part 2 .. the manga for the Origin I also had as well but I lost them in a flooding.. I don’t deserve to get into the franchise .. 😅
I’m a collector of anime/manga so I’m definitely interested in collecting more
I recently started watching IBO after seeing The Witch from Mercury and decided to give this a look because I'm interested in watching more series after.
Well, gonna use this to get into Gundam. Been enjoying armored core 6 a ton and was already a big Battletech fan so let’s dive headfirst.
Nice video! You got my like!
7:25 I actually really liked the old animation because it brought the realism more to the front
Any chance for updated video including newer series?
Unfortunately with the way RUclips works, this video with its amount of views would still get recommended to people over a new and better version, so I'd rather just make supplemental videos in the meantime until this one becomes largely outdated. (The only thing that's sort of outdated as of right now is how I describe NT's and Hathaway's relevance to the watch order.)
Best explanation ever thanks man I’m half way on the og show
Now I know how to watch it, thnx.
Us After War Gundam X fans gotta stay together. Fucking underrated of a show, it's a shame it didn't get dubbed back in Toonami.
Where can I stream it in dub? I know Funimation has some of it but doesn't have all of it
There’s a few on Hulu
(Note: the Love story was cool too)
(Note: never knew about Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin and Thunderbolt and will end up looking for them... Thanks by the way)
Then I watched the full series of Zeta Gundam and Double Zeta on DVD and after watching this I'm going to end up watching them again. (Note: Wasn't a big fan of the G-Fighter version)
I also ended up watching Gundam Wing which had me interested at the beginning but stayed with it up to Endless Waltz.
Hi I have heard of something called Beltorchika's children, any explanation on that?
Char's Counterattack has three versions. Beltorchika's Children is the novelized version of the original pitch for the movie.
Great review of all the timelines btw good job at that 👍
The Gundam Unicorn OVA series was actually 7 feature length movies, so each was 90 minutes to almost 2 hours.
I know this vid is a year old but, Hathaway's Flash is supposed to take place after Char's Counter Attack, this was before Unicorn or Narrative started years ago, in fact there are some events in CCA Altered for Hathaway's Flash
Very well made!
Very informative video, thanks for making
Yup IBO got me back to Gundam…some gut wrenching moments in that show…
start with mobile fighter G gundam
@TanukiType i am so lucky to have found this channel. This is an excellent video. I wish someone did something similarly good for Macross, because I barely know Macross, but I know Gundam better.
In a way I am asking if you might do a Macross guide.
I like Macross as well but don't have enough expertise on it to do a video yet. (I've seen the original and Macross Plus so far.)
Is Gundam Crossbone canon? It has sequel manga called Skull Heart where we meet a much older Judau Ashta, so I just wanted to confirm.
Yes
not sure why this only has 978 views
Love this
Thanks for the effort!
Hey, excellent vid and wonderful info. What do you think of MS IGLOO, is it something worth getting into.
It's worth watching only if you're really into the UC timeline or just want to see what the Hildolfr and Zudah are from.
I have watched all Gundams from Seed onward (except for Build Fighter).
Are the shows before the year 2000 really worth my time? Since Im mostly an eyecandy watcher and older series kind of make me cringe with older animations.
Yes it worth it but if you don’t like older animation then prolly better off skipping
But it was very much 2d animated
I think you were referring to digital colouring instead of hand painted
Thus was cool, you really know a lot about gundam, I watched gundam wing as a kid and me and my brothers loved it, have tried to go back to it a couple time and just can't get into it, although trieze is awesome. Still haven't seen the tall goose everyone was talking about for a while.
So can you stream these anywhere. I know there's some on funimation. But not all
Netflix has the original series compilation movies, Char's Counterattack, Unicorn, Hathaway, and Iron-Blooded Orphans last time I checked. Crunchyroll has the original series, Wing, 00, and G Gundam.
Do you agreed that is sort of the right order to watch the Mobile Suit Gundam UC Timeline including the movies, OVA and ONA⬇️
Mobile Suit Gundam UC Timeline
-------------------------------------------------------
◇The Orgin: Advent of the Red Comet
◇MSG {Movies 1-3}
◇Cucuruz Doan's Island {Movie}
◇The 08th MS Team
◇ War in the Pocket
◇Thunderbolt {Movies}
◇Stardust Memory
◇Zeta Gundam{ Skip Double Zeta}
◇ Char's Counterattack {Movie}
◇Unicorn RE: 0096
◇Gundam Narrative {Movie}
◇Hathaway {Movie}
◇Gundam F91 {Movie}
In my opinion I do not recommend myself to watching MSG in it fullest because most people like me don't really have time because of work and under priorities.
**noticing how the start of Awakening of the Trailblazer was a bit off**
Me: "oh no"
**seeing aliens at the tail end of Awakening of the Trailblazer**
Me: "OH NO"
I started with Gundam build fighters try, so I watched build fighters and then divers. Then I found Seed Destiny, Seed and 00. I only watched the original MSG last year.
my favorite gundam series is Gundam age it actually get pretty interesting
Great video
Recommends every gundam title
Me: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
You know, SD gundam was also my introduction, I just didn't realize it was actually gundam until much, much later.
Woah, this guy seems pretty cool. 😳
Why did u stop uploading
I upload more frequently on the main channel. I only upload on this channel when I make something mecha-related.
Gundam zz did get. English releases but its lost media we only have half of episode 3 and 49...it would be amazing if somebody could find that lost media...got any explanation on twilight axis...the show is just a preview advertisement for the book
POV: V.II Snailteuse dying
What about build divers?
Great video! I’m really trying to dig into the series but I feel like I don’t have the time and money. I’m trying to go through the stuff on Netflix (comp movies and some other UC stuff). I just ordered the War in the Pocket blu ray off your recommendation!
(just now saw your comment) How did you end up liking War in the Pocket?
@@TanukiType 0080 rocked my world. I’ve watched it four or five times. I own most of Universal Century on blu ray and have watched almost all of them.
I am (once reading probably finished) watching the film series and as a starting off point it's really good and fun to watch plus having it on Netflix makes it nice to watch as i can take a break easily all and all fun series
Glad I found this.
Do you know how I can see endless waltz online in English?
GundamInfo sometimes has it public. They have the entirety of the Wing HD Remaster viewable right now.
