I just want to add that I noticed someone else's mention of Women Who Run the Wolves. I just started reading that last week even though I have owned the book for many years. OK, since 1992 ! But through YJs, your video that I first watched a month ago, my ever growing desire to be part of a coven, lifelong interest in Mythology, reading poetry and listening to Florence and the Machine's Dance Fever, I was moved to take the book off the shelf ! 11:42 Jackie didn't like rabbits, though! It's confirmed in the same episode. Her parents didn't know her, society didn't know her. So Shauna's not killing something Jackie liked, reliving her death. She's rather killing the perfect Jackie that society created and perceived (both alive and dead). The perfect Jackie that didn't allow the real Jackie (who was deeply insecure in her identity) to welcome the Wilderness, which eventually killed her. So, killing the rabbits is rather an attack on structured society (and therefore links Shauna to the Wilderness).
Finally a review that analyzes the symbolism and metaphors. As an English teacher, I despair at the number of RUclips posts that merely recount the story line. I want meat. Thank you. PS I'm Canadian and spend time in the bush. It is the only place where I feel serenity; however, I am aware to the dangers. I met a bear once. Luckily for me, the bear was as scared of me as I was of her. I like to tell my students that humans think they are important. If we were to meet a tiger (for instance), the tiger would see food. The tiger doesn't care that you broke up with your boyfriend. This concept is intolerable for most people. Thanks again.

You should definitely read “Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. It’s my absolute favorite book and I’ve reread the chapter on Vasilisa the Beautiful and Baba Yaga many times. Vasilia is ultimately given a flaming skull to help guide her home through the wilderness. She’s originally afraid of the flaming skull, but then embraces it and learns to use it to her advantage.
It's so interesting that you mentioned this book because I just started reading it even though I have owned it since it came out in 1992 ! I completely agree with your recommendation. I love the story about Vasilisa and Baba Yaga
I also think that the trivia answer from the first episode that Shauna answers correctly of Paradise Lost plays into the storyline … the temptation of evil and the urge to eat the “forbidden” seems to be a huge arch for her.
Travis is definitely the Stag which he turned into at Doomcoming. I think Misty is the Owl, her familiar is a bird and she has big round googly glasses-lol
Sadly it isn’t an owl, but an opossum! When misty reveals her face during the cannibal council she seems to be wearing beaver furs in her “overseer” role
INCREDIBLE Video!!! Absolutely loved it. You touched on so may themes and archetypes that resonate throughout the show. My one note is that the characters and dialogue have heavily foreshadowed that not everything questionable that they did in the wilderness was to survive. If that was the case, they would be willing to talk about it. But it seems there was far worse behavior than that, which is yet to be revealed. And they want it concealed at all costs. Must be pretty bad indeed.

Travis’s familiar is the bear with him as the hunter and Lottie ultimately killing him. Like a caged bird and a wolf domesticated he’s a bear caught in a trap.
Please read up on The Bacchae the play from Greek history. This story completely plays out. The entire race through the woods is the same feel. Loved your analysis
This video is absolutely brilliant. You nailed it. I'll bet the producers of the show hope not too many people see this video lol. The story of our last 300 years has been about the conquest of nature. What would happen to all of us if we we didn't have the world that has been built on top of the wilderness. Especially the people that consider themselves indoor people haha

I really don't want there to be a supernatural link,and i want all the weird stuff to be attributed to base human desires,and also want the rational Misty to watch and gently nudge the girls into gradual madness 😅😅

I grow up in similar forest I could never understand why people are so afraid of it and it is depicted in so many horror movies.I guess the primal fear of the unknown , in forest is actually piece full even in darkest places, or I could have accepted it long time ago. Antler queen and many themes remind me of Hannibal- the series. Again its symbol of devil, darkness etc. You are right how far actually civilized people are from their own darkness and fear and denial are just hypocrite :)

I dont know exactly but I lived most of my life in the forrest aswell and my grandmother always told me to stay out of the dark forrest in the nighttime ....its easy to get lost in there also wild animas and so on , my grandmother is a practicing witchcraft and she believes that forrest holds a special power
Also, isn't it insane how otherwise mortal wounds are healing incredibly fast in the situation, not even signs of infection. Another supernatural gift or ability I disagree with there not being an unforseen force The wilderness is extremely old, which means a lot has happened there when civilization was very alone. I live near Colonial Williamsburg and parts of it still gives me the creeps, I don't think it's a throw away feeling. The women each are beginning to inadvertently offer up their own sacrifices, but Lottie continues to resist by cutting begging for it to be enough.
The show runners have said there is no "monster in the woods," so I believe the woods and wilderness itself are the force. Interesting wording - when you put it in the context of Lottie "cutting" it opens up a different way of looking at it, especially with her therapy session... 🙌 Thanks for watching!

I enjoyed this video. I completely forgot about the Horned God of the Celtic people. I would like to thank you for that. In line with the themes you touch upon, civilization for all its benefits diminishes the human soul in ways many can't comprehend. This opinion I have is in no small part due to my admiration for Lottie. I am human after all. Her kill of the bear was a boss move. I understand Travis in ways that women may not. He loves Natalie with all his heart but Lottie fills his spirit with hope. Love without hope is a burden, sometimes too much to bear. I believe Travis died because he failed to reconnect with Javi. He lives; I believe but the wilderness is his home now. They will find him again but changed by the wilderness. I hope I'm right.

I think you might have missed Nat's animal totem: I think it was the white moose. It attacked her at the plane when she prepared the bloody pants and she found it again frozen in the lake during the hunt... which foreshadows how she lets the boy die in her place in the same situation

I was so with you until you started saying lottie has the gift of foresight. if it was the gift of foresight it shouldnt have been able to be suppressed by medication, I already don't like how they're doing the "is it magic or mental illness" trope so if it's magical but can be suppressed with meds I'll be even more upset. they should've chose magic or mental illness, you can't have both.
I have a problem with the rabbit scene though that was no wild rabbit! Wild rabbits are brown and fast there’s no way she would be able to get that close!

For some reason, I heard the two craziest rumors, one that Mari might be alive and she isn’t pit girl but one that honestly can’t wrap my head around is that Jackie might be alive and just like left and took on a diffrent identity I know this sounds far-fetched, but she’s still in the credits, I don’t know lol oh, I know that would be a WTF moment, because how would they explain it other than they’ve trip hard in the woods 🍄 lol the dark entity known as the antler queen was called the Oracle - by the writers before the fans called it the antler queen 25 years Lotties vision is getting worse ties sleepwalking is getting worse all connected and they’re all coming to Lotte is campus I really wish they would just let the next four episodes go so I can binge watch them lol I never heard of this show till bout a few months ago and before episode 3 I was hooked just because I love the cast and how the actors ( young and old are soo spot on ) My favorite is nat - young and old But I have to say, even though Lottie is a nut job I guess that mental institution in Switzerland was good to her because she look good lol --She’s got this weird which five which is perfect for the show lol

The wilderness is Gilligans island. What if the skipper and Gilligan ate the weakest which I consider the rich. So the howls would be eaten first by the tribe. Anyone else showing weakness will be eaten also. Survival of the fitest
Yes, 10000000%! I definitely think there is a huge connection between Shauna's devouring mother tendencies and Callie's name. Callie seems to be the embodiment of Kali in many ways, and I love how she uses her anger to expose her mother's BS. 🔥
The whole idea that a group of girls who survived the wilderness can barely make the wilderness of their real lives, social norms or their own wild kids & family... put me back in forest as teenage girl pls too.
