What are your favorite theories?
The symbol/trigonometry theory is cool..and explains why that teacher comments about none of the girls caring about trigonometry in like the first episode!! If trigonometry was literally the key to getting help that would be wild!
• Misty is a serial killer and her hunger for human flesh never stopped after they left the wilderness. She acts out a ritual with men who she "cares for" like she did with Coach Ben. Then she goes preying mantis and eats them. She's been doing it for decades and Coach Ben is the first person murdered, which establishes her modus operandi.
• Lottie is the girl who falls into the pit, with either Tai or Shaunna replacing her as the Antler Queen. Lottie's delusions get worse as more of the girls buy into the cult, but Natalie ends up bringing them back to their senses. Nat leads a coup, where they decided the best way to issue justice is to cannibalize Lottie the way Lottie cannibalized others.
• Shauna's baby is sacrificed by Lottie to bring about their rescue. The horrifying part is Shauna goes along with it.
• Van continues the cult and harbors a grudge towards the others for killing Lottie, who Van has come to see first as a prophet, but later on the messiah. The postcards are from Van, who has spent the last 25 years growing the Church of Lottie Day Saints (possibly with the help of Lottie's parents).
• They aren't alone out in the woods (purely speculation on my part. Nothing in the show indicates it's true). There's a different group nearby who embrace Lottie as their leader after she makes another prediction. The girls don't find out about this group until season 2 because they live a several days' walk south. The trek led by Tai was really close to running into them by the red river. This other group lives in an abandoned mining town and they see the girls as food.
• The symbol is several hobo code symbols mashed together that basically mean "Danger. Do not go beyond this point." That's either because the woods are haunted or because the man living in the cabin was himself dangerous. As for specific parts of the symbol, the hook means either "Owner is out" or "Halt." The lines on the triangle and line going through the triangle mean "Danger! Not a safe place! Owner has gun." The triangle itself and its overlap onto the circle mean "No use going this direction. Be prepared to fight if you do."

At the very start of the show, one of their old teachers said something like "none of those girls gave a damn about trigonometry, I can tell you that much"
so the theory about the symbol being some kind of trigonometry map is interesting, since we've already been given a clue that none of them were good at trig
I know this is 2 months old but when Laura Lee is giving Rachel’s eulogy in e3 she talks about how she was really good at trig. Idk if I believe this theory but I think it definitely has some merit. Honestly, now that I’m thinking about it they mention trig a lot

During landing and take off what angle and what speed is perfect even when the wind is blowing is calculated using trigonometry.”
Also, we see Shuana telling Callie to do her trig homework, study for her trig test, etc.
I googled this. They said that the symbol they keep seeing might be a map. Pay attention to the overhead shot in season 2 episode 1.
I love how everyone is immediately like "Yeah, of course Misty would kill Ben. Duh."
I like to think they're better than that and have him go out in some unexpected way.

I think it's a testament to the show that, in a show whose premise is about a plane crash leaving people stranded, the questions of "what caused the plane to go down" "where are they exactly" "how do they eventually get rescued" aren't even in the top 10 questions we all have by the end of the season. We're concerned about everything else the show is slowly building up to, and how the characters feel about it/betray or ally with each other/etc.
Yeah what’s the moment when everything splinters. The point of no return. Or, as Doomcoming suggests, is it no one thing. Rather, a confluence of unrelated factors that slowly erodes the young ladies’ realities.
Yeah that just further stamps how good the writers are at making an interesting show

She’s an enjoyable character but an absolutely revolting person/friend.
She’s one of the most genuinely unlikable characters I’ve seen on TV, but I’m always rooting for her lol. You can tell a lot of her actions stem from a deep desire to be liked which is relatable to most of us at some point.
That one old teacher just happened to say, none of those girls gave a damn about trigonometry.
Lottie's family is behind the crash and they have been luring victims there for generations.

Maybe Lottie's parents eventually become fully converted believers in Lottie's power and are the first members of the Lottie cult, and they didn't show that yet in the series. Trippy. Would that make the prescription pills part of some sort of an act/strategy?

I really hope that Lottie is actually alive in the present time as the antler queen and it’s not just a misdirect… killing her would be really dumb as she’s what brings the supernatural element to the show which makes for a really intriguing and compelling character.
I think the creators have confirmed that we'll see adult Lottie in s2.

From the way the creators talked, I think it's very likely season 2 will have cannibalism. They said they wanted season 1 to be a big build up, putting everything in place, but they also didn't want to drag it out too long.
The terrifying mayhem that happens in the doomcoming (were they really just shrooms or did it make them all more connected with the spirits/forest somehow?), and the fact that they are already all on board with starting a spoken food ritual when they eat the bear in the finale, is a sneak peek of what we'll get in season 2, for sure. I feel like season 2 is going to start with showing us a LOT more about Lottie, both in the wilderness and in the present (since we now know she's still alive). In the 1996 timeline they've all just seen her apparently use some kind of power over the bear, so who wouldn't listen to her? Lottie has to be responsible for at least STARTING the cannibalism rituals.
I absolutely love to see Lottie as the main bad in season 2. Considering the ending of the season finale, it is likely that Lottie became the Antler Queen and made it out of the woods🐝⚽️💛🖤💙
If that's the case, the real question is "How did Lottie get out of there?"

I think the cult is the big bad in season 2 and lottie shows up toward the 2nd to last or last episode and becomes the big bad season 3. Or is the actual big bad and gets locked up in a psych ward at the end of the season just to return in season 3

I love that Shauna's actress says "on the island" (1:25) because I make that mistake all the time. Going into the show I assumed they were on an island from what I'd heard, and even now that I've watched the whole thing I still can't stop myself from saying island instead of "wilderness" etc.

@@mb-bc9qs something I've thought about since the beginning is that while they could definitly be cannibals for sustenance there's also the ritualistic aspect and a baby could fit into that part.
Heck maybe it's Shaunas kid doing all this ( the baby born while they were stranded) . She had the baby at some point. They were their 19 months so that's a yr and 7 months. Maybe they didn't eat the baby, but when they were rescued the baby wemt to authorities and the foster care system..
Or maybe they do eat the baby.

Interesting thing. I'm rewatching the show and I noticed in the beginning the name of Lottie's meds ..."loxipene" which is probably actually "loxapine" which is medication for schizophrenia.

I first thought pit girl was Lottie, but then realized that Mari has similar hair and if enough time has gone by it's more likely to be Mari bc her hair would be longer, (&Lotties would be much longer then that by then too)... now I believe that Lottie is antler queen, Mari is pit girl. That's my final answer ( for now lol)

Okay so I’m thinking the same thing…. BUT obviously lotties hair would be soooo long what if the antler queen cut off lotties hair and that’s why the antler queen has the weird tied off hair! Because it was lotties and they cut it off and it’s part of the sacrifice? Idk just a thought.

I think the AQ is very possibly Taissa.. also we don't know how Van fits in as an adult she is most likely still alive and in contact with Taissa, Van is possibly in on the creepy altar hidden in the basement. Lottie might seem crazy but she's definitely not the only one!!

Samantha Hanratty's Coach Ben theory is amazing!! I was thinking that was not the first time that room was used!
Not seeing anyone mention dream sequences. We’ve seen several of them so far (notably, Shauna’s chicken baby and Lottie’s candle bunker), so I don’t know why the “pit girl” has to be a real occurrence. It could just be a manifestation of fear-or something like that. Also, in the present, Lottie’s cult does not necessarily need to include Lottie herself. It could just be her acolytes (like Van), perhaps dedicated to her memory, who take things too far. I do hope we get adult Lottie, but Lottie could be influential even if she doesn’t survive the woods.
While that is possible, I feel it would greatly annoy and even potentially antagonize the audience if it turned out that was a dream sequence. It's one thing to have a dream sequence that you immediately tell the audience is a dream sequence. It's another thing when you wait over a year to tell the audience that it was a dream. I feel that would be a horrible creative decision.
I definitely thought Lottie was the pit girl now I think it’s Mari! Lottie is still alive & leading the cult I’m mad she ain’t come to the reunion & I wonder is Van still alive? I think they 1st ate the coach & then Shauna’s baby & Nat just couldn’t take it anymore & that’s how she found help. Also I want them to dive deeper into Tai being possessed & what she’s really aware of
Why is everyone forgetting that shauna was pleasing herself to her daughters boyfriend picture. In her daughters room also… on her daughters bed! thats pretty messed up! That shows what kind of person she is. I’m hoping there is cannibalism because that’s what the show has been teasing the whole 1st season. It will really show how & why the girls were really effected by their ordeal. And the forest spirit or skinwalker spirt (I like to think that’s what is out there after they held the seance) is also another force causing the girls problems in the past and still in the future. Let’s hope they dont fumble this! They got so many options and such an original story! The foundation they laid for this series is so interesting. I hope season 2 they explore the possibilities of everything and come up with another amazing season
I totally forgot about that. I think all of the survivors never moved past what happened, and are therefore still mentally stunted as teenagers. I thought she was just so depressed she was going through the motions, not really thinking about what she was looking at, but that would otherwise be the only other explanation? She’s a deviant.
Fun to see them as enthusiastic about it as a lot of us are.
The Javi/Adam theory threw me for a loop!!
Sammi literally said my explanation for why Tai couldn't have killed Travis almost verbatim. Like there are limits to the things a person is capable of doing competently while sleepwalking- you could potentially get up and walk around and act out familiar actions that you're used to performing in your waking life, for example you could get up and try and brush your teeth and make a mess of the bathroom, or go to the kitchen and try to make something to eat and spill food all over the place, but what you really can't do is drive several states over and murder someone else in a really elaborate way and frame the person so that when the police look into it it convincingly looks like a suicide to them.
It's a five hour drive from Red Bank, New Jersey to Concord, New Hampshire.
I mean like someone else pointed out, it's a drive to where Travis was living. So Tai would have had to be sleep driving which I think is impossible lol. Still putting my money on Lottie's crazy cult.
Just to play devil’s advocate, in my university psych class we learned about a guy in the 90’s or something who drove an hour from his house to his in-laws and murdered them… all whilst asleep! He had an extreme case of sleep walking and didn’t end up being charged for the murders because a sleep doctor was able to confirm he hadn’t done it consciously!
Not arguing your point, just wanted to share something that I thought was wild when I heard it !
@@wearesatellites91 I learned about that case study in my philosophy of the mind class. Except it wasn't sleep walking , the man had entered a Fugue state/dissociative fugue state . It is when "someone temporarily loses their sense of personal identity and impulsively wanders or travels away from their homes or places of work for periods of hours, days, or even weeks.. They often become confused about who they are and might even create new identities."
It is usually caused by someone going through an extremely traumatic event , in Tai's case that would be the events that happened in the wilderness. And they are triggered by high stress situations i.e. the election campaign.
What I find interesting is that they are sometimes accompanied by the establishment of a new identity.That could be what is happening to Taissa during "the tree lady" episodes.
IDK. It would be interesting if that was the case.

Going with a group division theory, that there were some super into the cannibalism and some not into it, and those are the survivors we've seen - Taissa, Shauna, Nat, Misty (I love the idea of Misty switching sides), and the canon that Lottie survived and created a cult/continued the wilderness "lifestyle", I think Van fully converted into a Lottie believer, is her loyal follower/cult manager, and obviously her and Taissa don't speak anymore. Anyone thinks this too?
Feel like this could also open up some possibilities around Taissa's sleepwalking/fugue state/dirt eating

Correct me if im wrong, but if the actress playing young Misty said (almost bragged) that she knows who the antler queen is and at the same time is wondering whose hair it is, wouldnt that indicate that it wouldnt be Lottie given her other comment that she 'thought at first it had to be Lottie'? May be wrong but did she just give something away?
Not necessarily, it’s super possible they use a body double on set as antler queen so as not to reveal anything to the cast, and misty just knows what stunt double is under the mask?
I honestly hope the title of Antler Queen is something that changes hands at some point or even changes hands regularly. I think an element of "who gets to be the antler queen at the next ritual" etc, making it something they compete for, would be a very fitting and interesting dynamic for the group (once the ritual stuff has been introduced more).
Well, she as in that scene. Unless they took great pains to isolate the actresses, she probably knows who was wearing that costume on that day.
That said, it wouldn't be the first time a film crew had done a swap to misdirect their cast so they couldn't spoil something. That kind of thing can happen fairly frequently, and it can be anything from a costume swap to a line of dialogue swap. I mean, David Prowse said on the set for Empire Strikes Back, "Obi-Wan killed your father," and Gabriel Byrne thought _he_ was Keyser Some until he actually saw The Usual Suspects at the premiere. Film crews go to great lengths to protect spoilers.
They did use body doubles on everyone but Misty, so we really couldn't snoop lol. They don't want us to know yet.

tai isn't just sleepwalking, she has DID and maybe her alters don't interact with each other. we saw her switch during her press conference. i think the alter that smiled when she won was the same alter that gave the press speech and broke ally's leg, and the alter that keeps ending up in trees is the same one that keeps the shrine. when her wife said "that wasn't the woman i married", that seemed like a pretty strong hint that tai has a main alter that fronts and other alters that don't come out as often. *this is all based on very superficial knowledge i have of DID, i am not an authority at all.*
the cult killed travis and they're going to kill van because they belong to each other.
i think it's also totally possible that misty is involved with the cult and might be helping them carry out lottie's revelations.
I've been saying this too there's no way she sleep walks with her eyes open fully conscious that's insane she has to have a disorder that affects her personality or gives her another identity complex

Javi died in an accident. The rest ate him, and so did Travis. That is why Travis separated himself from the group later once they were rescued, as the remainder must've met up and vowed never to discuss it. That is why he didn't pursue his relationship with Natalie once back home. He hated himself and her.
But there was a flash back of them together as adults. I’m pretty sure he was with Nat For some of those 25 years on and off.

This is all so interesting and mindlowing, whatever the outcome may be I think season 2 will answer all those questions.
IGN had an interesting theory that Jackie could still be alive and could just be going through hyperthermia. Van did survive the wolf attack, so it's still possible. Also, in episode 6 when Shauna and Jeff went to Jackie's parent's house, Shauna went to Jackie's room and looked at her diary. Some movies on the list came out after the plane crash.

Clueless, My Girl and Pulp Fiction were all pre 1996 with the exception of Scream. Scream was released on December 20th, 1996. Scream came out a few months after the crash.
That being said she's either still alive or it was a production error.
Definitely a production error. A really easy one not to mess up, but alas here we are .
Another (possible) production error is that when Taissa mentions to Van that her favorite Spice girl is Sporty Spice, wouldn’t have happened in 1996 because Wannabe came out in Jan. of 1997 in the US. So it’s not likely that the girls would have really known about the Spice Girls, unless they knew of them before that song made it’s way to the US.
Does anyone know if Adams character is 24 on the show if so you all should know who he is Its not Javi
@@mykittenisagrandmaster4381 They never actually say or mention how old he is (and if they did, I forgot/don’t remember), but the actual actor was born in 1986, which would make him about 34 in 2021. No idea how old he’s supposed to be, but he’s obviously meant to be younger than Shauna. All of the survivors that were shown/mentioned are supposed to be in their early 40s.
@@biancaondatje8639 I'm just guessing because he's most likely one of two people if he was stranded with them and it seems odd that he would appear on TV while Jeff Shauna and their daughter are watching we have no clue what happened to her child during that time because the writers didn't mention it for a reason same with javi who dissapeared

YallowJackets is an awesome show, i was lucky to find it cos when i saw the title i really thought it was related to the Yellow Vest movement... happy it has nothing to do with it , Awesome cast young and older . now the wait for Season 2 will kill me xD

The first one they eat is probably Jackie since she froze to death and it's cold, no animals around and they are very desperate. Then after tasting human meat for the first time the spirit gets even stronger and that's how they become this crazy group of cannibals that kill and eat the others with no remorse. The surviving ones are still possessed and still part of the cult to this day and Lottie wanted someone in the cult in a high position of power that's why she ran for office and the sacrifice insured that she won. Travis was another human sacrifice and Tai is going to have to keep doing more to keep moving up in the political world and please the cult. She might go after poor Sammy in the next season🙁
EDIT I thought alittle about this ..and the only thing i think i got wrong is them eating Jackie.. they just ate the bear and by the time they get so desperate to actually eat human meat Jackie's body would've been to badly decomposed. I think the rest of my theory is right though. As soon as they get a taste of that human meat (the first one is probably going to be someone that died accidentally or maybe when Misty snaps and kills the coach ) the spirit is going to get stronger. I just don't think it's Jackie now that I think of it. Another thing, Travis was probably also killed because he talked to the "reporter." Tai sent her to see if anyone would talk. Natalie and Misty found that expensive bottle she said she bought for Travis and her. He got drunk and talked so Tai had him killed. Maybe they didn't want Natalie to kill herself even though they wanted her dead anyway because they need to kill her in a ritualistic way to appease the gods and to ensure the cult gets stronger.
Basically perfect casting on this show. Also the writing is proper "golden age of TV" stuff.
Theories....obviously unoriginal because you can say this for any fantasy/horror/si fi thing - but its very lovecraft (which also of course encapsulates Aliens 👽). Is "IT" an old god?

The theory on 10:56 is pretty good actually. I could imagine that the writers would give Tai a split personality disorder, because it's so typical for movie writers to give represent that diagnose in characters by letting them switch personalities when they think they're asleep. I don't think this is how realistic split personality disorder works, but it's typically represented in TV like that. So if Tai became another personality when she is asleep she could drive a car and tie someone up. Also what I know of that disorder is, that (as many personality disorders) it often comes from a trauma.

That aged poorly lol
The andes crash survivors resulted to cannibalism in just days after their crash & they were only stranded for 2 & 1/2 months so the idea that they can make it through the first winter without eating Jackie doesn't really hold up as far as reality goes. Which in reality rescuers wouldn't need the flight recorder box to find them when they would just follow the flight plan to the point it fell off radar. Also the weather at the time of the crash would've been perfect for search efforts so it would not have taken that many days to find the crash site. The rugby team that crashed in the andes mountains & resulted to cannibalism was rescued in 72 days & that was in some of the worst & coldest conditions imaginable. I just think maybe they should've had problems with their radar malfunctioning several minutes before the crash. That way, if you combine the box being smashed by Misty with the earlier radar malfunction, only then could it be believable that the rescue could take that long. Still a great show though
Maybe the crash was a set up by lottie's father (he paid for the trip), or for some reason they dont want to find them lol. And as for the cannibalism, I don't think theyll eat each other, but I do think that by killing people the "woods" will provide them food (when Laura lee died they got the bear, etc.)
I’m really interested to see if the writers lean into the Wendigo legend! The set up is all there, the woods, cannibalism, and the antlers!

I think they might eat Jackie at the end of winter, maybe her body stayed frozen and relatively preserved, after those couple months of winter but don't actually kill someone to eat them until later
That’s so disrespectful to eat Jackie’s body after a lot of the girls being so horrible and mean to her with her sleeping outside of the cabin after arguing knowing full well that there was wolves creeping about

I've watched every episode of YJ and honestly, if the actor who plays young Misty were standing next to me, I'd never recognize her. Amazing!
My theory - Jackie's still alive (just has hypothermia). Her life and death experience makes her desperate to survive at all costs, and she becomes the antler queen and loses her mind. Lottie's pit girl, she was hunted into the pit to be eaten. After that Jackie takes on Lottie's identity. She gets rescued with the other survivors, but a few years later she runs away to start her cult - everyone is saying she died because they can't deal with the truth of it.
So cool to see actors in their normal clothes and their overall look after being so accustomed to their characters. Sam Hanratty is so damn fine! 😍🔥

I do want to put out there that i DO KNOW that young Lottie was played by an actress of partially Maori and Chinese descent alongside Caucasian roots.
Those roots should be respected and reflected in the choice of actress to assume the "adult" Lottie in the modern time-line representation in season 2.

Pit girl isn't the mystery. When resorting to cannibalism there has to be a sacrifice. Since Jackie is the first they play games or have luck of the draw to see who is next to be eaten by using her necklace. They let a hunt begin or maybe pit girl escaped and was trying to get away.

I initially thought, there will definitely be cannibalism, and there probably will be. But they did leave it open to not having cannibalism. The spirits reward them with animals to kill and eat when they shed blood. It also could be the spirits grooming them towards cannibalism.

They participate in cannibalism not out of necessity but as a sacrifice to their god or goddess. The murder looks premeditated. Tyisa and Lottie both have some kind of paranormal powers and there could be a battle for power over the group in the past and present day.

I am sure that the pit girl at the beginning is Jen, she has more long hair with the tiime, and she has a kind of behavioral stress that Mari doesn't have, smoother, "soft" even in the confrontation, and it would be too easy to imagine Mari because she already has long hair, there would be no more of surprise

Well the whole time Shauna was with her boyfriend I was thinking that he had to be Travis's brother Javi, but since Shauna killed him I feel like that's most likely not true. But I still think it's a possibility

If the bear is all they have to get through a winter in the mountains (somewhere northeast of Seattle into Canada), they will need another food source to survive. I think they eat Jackie in season two.

It's not the worst theory on here. Some of these comments are just really fuckin stupid. I think when the actors are reading them and entertaining their ideas, they're just being polite. Like the thing about Lottie falling into the pit. The woman who was hired by who knows who to kidnap Juliette Lewis at the end of the season says something on the phone insinuating that Lottie drained Travis' bank account. So she's obviously still alive.

The only theory I have is that Shauna may end up going to far out there. Doing what…IDK? But I think I remember in the scene when Taissa and her were initially talking in a cafe/diner about the blackmail, Shauna put her hand on top Taissa’s and Tai quickly moved her hand away. That made me think that something really bad happened that changed how Tai looked at Shauna. I could be remembering this incorrectly though. Or maybe it means nothing?

then how did they get the bear? it did seem to be a gift fr the forest as it just laid down to be killed, but the group didn't kill anybody in order to get it.....they tried to kill Travis but didn't.... unless they killed Javi....
