Depending on the cpu and game 3600mhz is still the sweet spot for performance because going to any higher clocks has increasingly smaller fps gains. Memory speed just isn't as crucial to games as cpu speed. Games love high cpu clocks because thats were all the work is being done. It doesn't matter if the data can be shoveled faster into the cpu via higher clocked ram if it can't process it fast enough.
I actually picked up a knock-off A01 case (like an HTPC case if you don't know the name), a B650i mb, and this APU for a little build I'm doing next week. I don't really game on the bigger, more demanding titles anymore, but for the retro games/emulators, and indie pixel art games that have had my interest for a while now, this seems perfect. I can't wait, though, as this is going to be the smallest build I've ever done and the first time I've used a Pico PSU. Thanks for the vid!
Gamers nexus has found a power issue with these cpu in that with extended play at high loads the power draw will suddenly drop to half or less and tank performance. This doesn't seem to be a temperature issue.
I’m actually planning a building an 8600g right now. I don’t have a ton of time to game at the moment, so casual 60fps sessions are totally fine with me. I love working on PCs too, so with the new GPU season soon it’ll be a ton of fun to pick out one to go in my PC. Plus now the 8600g is only $160
day 8 I was in temu and found PC parts on there heres a list of them: GPU motherboard ram SSDs fans AIO case. I couldn't find a CPU but i would just use something a round the price of the GPU, I would also get accessories for the all temu setup. i would love to see this video come out. you guys are the best
I built my friend a super budget PC with a 4600G and it can actually play 1080p at low/medium with no discreet GPU. And the chip itself is many years old. I was shocked.
Theres a store selling a 8600g prebuid at 370$ but single stick of ram + 240gb ssd and also selling a 5600g prebuild at 280$ with single stick of ram + 480gb ssd... Both are still a killer value imo just their choice of psus are very questionable...
Actually the sad thing about the new APUs is the number of PCIe lanes. When you’re ready for a GPU you’ll need a new CPU as well. But I’m looking forward to getting them to play with. Planning an 8700G build to put in my truck.
The 8700g has 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes, enough for a GPU and an SSD. Also b650 boards have support for 36 PCIe 4.0 lanes, meaning anything else you put in will be handled at full speed by the mobo up to 36 lanes worth.
Just built a 8700G rig today. For less than a Legion Go with slightly more power from the desktop class wattage I’m good with this until I can afford a graphics card.
A 12100F/5500 CPU build with an RX 6600 is about the same price with the correct parts. It has worse upgradeability for sure, but it destroys the 8600G in gaming
When 16GB 3Ghz RAM was considered fast for DDR4 RAM which what I was using for like 5 years, now I just doubled both the RAM Speeds and RAM Capacity to 32GB DDR5 at 6GHz.
We should be seeing the newest cod, battlefield 2042, tekken 8, the newest FC game or newest madden, nba2k, a racing game like Forza, and then cyberpunk or horizon forbidden west A full assortment of benchmarks
Board makers should add a gddr6+ rem slot near cpu to add extended VRAM that APU can access at full gddr6+++ speeds. That is upgradadble to whatvever you need example 16gb.
there would be no point, and it would just be more costly. They would most likely have to solder the modules onto the board to actually get high speeds, like the ones on GPUs.
The fastest cards I would pair with a Ryzen 5 8600G is either the RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT because if you pair it with anything more powerful than that you'll get a pretty noticeable cpu bottleneck.
Not bad, but I mean you can just get a 5500 and a RX 580 for like 190-210$ (for where Im at) this is brand new aswell. Yeah new gen and stuff but 5500 still rocks till this day.
These chips will be fantastic in laptops and cheap prebuilts. I can see someone buying a $600 HP machine for basic tasks and as a bonus the kids being able to play modern games no problem. But performance doesn’t quite beat a $60 rx580 8gb (used) so Id recommend that to anyone building a tower on a budget
I looks like the link you guys have posted for the RAM are for DDR4. I'm pretty sure AM5 is DDR5 Only. You may want to change that so novice builders don't get confused.
This apu plus ddr5 ram will cost you about $300 which is a terrible deal, when you ryzen 5 5600 plus 5500xt with ddr4 ram will cost less but give you much better performance
You would need custom boards made for such a device. Would there be a financial incentive for these to be made for a low powered gaming system?@@tommasolenci2840

The mobo and memory required to run these 250-300+ apu make the entire thing a pointless thing. AM4 chipset 450/550 mobo with a 3600/5600 and a 6700xt with 32gb DDR4 mem will easily carry every average gamer over the AM5 chipset and not require average gamers to get the components required to use these apus for so much less performance. These are for someone , more of a novelty but these will not even perform at the 6650xt level or price range. £120+ for the basement mobo £250-330+ for the 8600g/8700g cpu £60+ 16gb DDR5 Before case/psu/ SSD you are already in deep water. These 3 components will build a B450M (Asrock is fire), RX 6650xt, 32gb DDR4, ryzen 5 3600, 1tb NvME, case, 750w psu and leave you with change back and room to upgrade or just carry over the AM5 chipset in 1080p happy as Larry. Thank you for the content.
You shouldn't build a pc around this. Unless you can build it into a mini pc the resale value will be terrible. If you insist on going this route, get the cheapest motherboard you can find, buy some ram, and refurb an old office machine. Then you can at least sell the mb combo for close to what you paid. Otherwise you can buy compact 7840hs systems for very little $ that will run more efficiently, or you can install an actual graphics card and have something that will actually be useful.
Test some AAA titles too. Something like forza horizon 5,god of war would be great. We know they wont run great but just so we can know if it would be playable at lowest settings
cant believe we've reached a point where 5200mhz is considered slow when just a few years ago 3200mhz was the sweet spot for ram speeds🤣
Im still on 1600mhz.

@@nonaurbizniz7440 some games do prefer higher mem speed like starfield. however, the vast majority of games still do not need major mem speed
RAM speed isn't linear when talking about different generations, since CAS latency increases. Final latency (ns) matters much more.

Could you do a video on a budget pc, that you can upgrade a newer gpu to for about the same price as the new AMD apu build price?

It will work since u just need the cpu and mobo. Goodluck building your pc
Personally, the upgrade path is amazing. It's the main reason to choose these APUs
You can ride a Coleman 196cc Gas-Powered Mini Bike but it isn't anything like riding a Motorcycle. Gaming on an APU is akin to riding a mini bike.

I'd use a CPU for a retro gaming build, but then again I have older machines for that.
I would suggest everyone take a look at Gamer Nexus video he release today in regards to Amd GPU before considering this build.
So what would be better 7800x3d or 8700g for gaming and for the price?

The apu does not support pcie4 x16 though right? Only x8?
