Hey Jason, thanks for the video. Please talk about tax liability to the relator. What is the significance of a partial lifting of the seal?

Hi there. Thank you for the comment and the question. For tax liability we do not offer any tax advice on False Claims Act matters, that's a whole separate area of law that involves tax professionals. We will try to address sealing issues for qui tam complaints under the False Claims Act in a separate video, but a partial lift of the seal is often done to share with a defendant or other entity in a limited capacity to generally stimulate settlement talks with the defendant or elicit more precisely what their opinion and/ defenses are after directly seeing the allegations. Oftentimes the relators identity will remain redacted, and relator's counsel may, but not must be involved in the process in assisting the AUSA with the redactions. The AUSA may present it to the relator and petition the court for the partial lifting above the relator's objections. Hope this is a little informative!
