Onion soups have been popular since the Roman period, especially eaten by poor people as onions were plentiful and easy to grow. French onion soup as we know it today was created in Paris in the 18th century, and was introduced to the US in the 1860s at a NYC restaurant owned by Swiss-born Henri Mouquin who fell in love with France after meeting Napoleon III in Lausanne. He chose to go to Paris at age 17 and finally the US where he entered the restaurant industry. The onion soup gained popularity in the US in the 1960s thanks to Julia Child.
The sweetest part of this whole video is after the little fight you had... if I didn't know how much you love each other, right there I saw it. Love your honesty and authenticity... Also don't mess with Jessie and her chocolate 🤣🤣😅♥️😍. Alessio we need that ragu recipe.
love you guys! All looks amazing! Where are your green veggies? Try steaming kale is little water until tender. in separate pan saute olive oil and garlic. add steamed kale and salt and pepper! so yummy. you can do this to al cooking greens, chard, broccoli rabe, collard greens.....
Great video, ragazzi! There is no Christmas without freshly made Lasagne! The one dish my Dad will cook all by himself every year for our family Christmas lunch! ❤
That’s not just any cheese he’s snacking on, that’s BABYBEL! That’s the cheese of my childhood, I’d always snack on some Babybel in elementary school because it’s the right size and too good to say no to. Also, as a bird lover, I appreciate the wholesome blue jay footage at 7:00. I had two pet budgies growing up (named Elvis and Presley) and they loved flying around our apartment when we lived in Jersey City. They tried to hide from us behind cookie jars on the kitchen cabinets, blend in with the blue curtains and especially enjoyed looking out the windows at the wild sparrows outside.
Jessi you have the most beautiful smile … it never fails to make me smile. Much love from Australia… while your cold there- I’m sitting by the air conditioner, outside it’s currently 40 degrees (104 Fahrenheit?) 🥵 🏖️ 🏊♂️ 🍕 xx
@@ThePasinis Omg really?!?!? It was so calming to watch them and for a second I thought it can't be real! Do you know the name of these birds? You are so lucky to have them visiting your home! 😊😊😊💞💞
Jessi, I would learn to curl your fingers when holding something to slice (like the apple) it's more stable, quicker and most importantly safer. You guys are awesome, thank you for the content!!
Mmm it all looks delicious. 😋 The Italian way of cooking teached me that cooking doesn't have to be complicated. And that 'simple' can be so tasty. ❤️ It's to bad the real good Italian cheese is so expensive in the Netherlands. Thanks for sharing. 💖
I add white beans or cooked quiona in place of sausage to that squash dish adds great protien and makes a complete meal. 7up the un-cola lol! Great meals throughout the week and a perfect saturday night. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. God Bless all
I just started watching you two, you are so adorable. Mexican coke over Pepsi! We do love Italian food in this house of mine and we also are cat 🐈⬛ lovers. Can’t wait to watch your next video! 💐
We lived next to an Italian family from Brooklyn, NY and their Grandpa Porto would simmer the red sauce and make the best lasagna for us for Christmas!!
Loved this video, every meal looked so delicious I was jealous of it all. I wanted to try everything especially that Christmas lasagna. I love to snack too, cheese before the meal and definitely a coke a cola girl 😊 you two should do a cook book of these every day meals.
I am 100% Italian from both my Mother and Father. I love watching your wonderful videos. You two are very special. Keep up the good work on your videos. This one was extra special to me. Have a wonderful New Year.
You two are so fun to watch! My honey is a Pepsi only drinker, nothing else. I'm mostly water, with a couple cups of coffee ☕ daily, and occasionally a soda. I have always liked Coke better than Pepsi. I had an Uncle who ran the Coca-Cola plant in our small town, so we always had Coca-Cola merchandise/collectibles in our home.
You guys are adorable and I love your videos. I do a lot of Vincenzo's plate recipes in my quest to try real Italian food. On a weird side note I have exactly your kitchen cabinets same color and same exact appliances. You guys have good taste 😉
All sound very good be sure to use pepper as well as some other well known spices. They help to provide true nutrition and make sure not to overeat as well.
Jessi, you sounded tired in this video, so if you can, sleep late, there's nothing wrong with that. I was always a night owl, and there's a study out there regarding a gene that causes some people to produce melatonin later in the night than most people. The study also mentioned heightened energy levels during the wee hours of the morning. A lot of people who suffer from Insomnia only do because they have morning jobs and can't fall asleep until late. And so if you don't have to be up, then sleep til noon. ;) Love the channel BTW, hope you come back to NYC soon.
I like you guys. Bu I would never spend this much time creating a meal. I like to spend an hour eating dinner. But cooking? Rice cooks in 30 minutes. Nothing should take longer than that. I am blessed with living in America where many inventions are available to make meal time quick and easy. I am a 70 year old man living alone. I am happy.
Jessi and Alessio HAPPY 2023 to both of you!! 🎉🎉 I found your channel about two weeks ago and absolutely love your content. You are such a beautiful couple, and I wish you all the happiness in the coming year ahead. ❤
We make our Italian chicken soup like this too. But we use a whole chicken. Did you put any cinnamon sticks in? Or cloves? We serve our soup over rice & put freshly grated parmigiano on top OR serve the soup over homemade crepes that have parmigiano sprinkled on them then rolled like cigars.... With the rest of the chicken we shred it then stir in a mixture of eggs, parmigiano & pepper... This is the filling we use to make our homemade ravioli... Also to make our homemade timballo (also with mini meatballs) this dish also comes from where my dad (an executive chef) was born in Pescara, Abruzzo 🇮🇹💖 We make our risotto with cicoria & our red sauce... OR another risotto we make is with chicken, parmigiano, white wine, pumpkin (squash) & peas 🇮🇹💖 We make pasta e fagioli too 🇮🇹💖 Traditional fruit panettone is my FAVOURITE, we get them (& pandoro) fresh in Australia because there's so many Italians in Melbourne & Sydney 🇦🇺😋😋🇮🇹💖
I don't know when I started incorporating Panettone in our family Christmas traditions but we get one every year and I also buy the trio popcorn tins my kids absolutely love these both during the holidays. I quit buying once the kids grew up and out of the house but this year I was gifted a small personal Panettone so good 🙏
You need the fat in the stock to make chicken soup. Adding rice helps absorb some of the fat. My grandfather was born in Tuscany and grew up in NYC little Italy. Most of those Italians then migrated to the Bronx. He always said the food on Arthur ave is much better than in little Italy, but the pizzas are way better in little Italy. A trick my aunt taught us is to use oven ready noodles to make lasagna. You can't tell the difference in taste but it looks different. And it makes it much faster and easier to make lasagna. Another trick I use is frozen garlic cubes, parsley cubes and cilantro cubes. I add it to the non stick pan I'm browning the chopped meat in. Then I drain it and add in the jar sauce. Francesco Rinaldi or Victoria are the best jar sauces in the USA. Poly o ricotta cheese with half skim milk and the matching mozzarella makes it lighter and fluffy. Tuscany cooking likes to cook on the lighter side and uses less garlic. Southern Italian cooking is heavier and uses lots more garlic.

We eat Baby Bells a lot but our dog and cat get half of it. My husband eats cheese all the time. Such a smart way to cook, use the broth and ragu to make several meals, I like his way of thinking. Pepsi is too sweet, I prefer Coke. Just like Miracle Whip, too sweet, I prefer mayonnaise.
This had me with mega Chicken soup cravings (not something I would usually make). I jumped off the bed after watching this video to cook it for dinner. I didn't make it anything like Alessio's but 10/10 it was scrumptious! Thanks guys!!! Great video and great dinner 🍽 😋 ❤
