So there's a story behind why they flip the Blizzards. Samuel Temperato, the DQ franchise owner who came up with the idea for Blizzards, was inspired by the frozen treats sold by Ted Drewes, a St. Louis shop owner who termed them “concrete”. In 1959, Steve Gamber, then 14, would stop by Drewes’ Chippewa Street location for a sandwich and chocolate malt, asking Drewes to make it thicker and thicker each time. Drewes had enough and one day flipped the malt upside down to show its thickness, assuring his young customer that if it fell out, it was free. Temperato picked this up for Dairy Queen!
I never knew this and yes Ted Drewes is amazing!!! I can remember in high school they would do a Ted Drewes Day and gave it to us for free, there was practically a stampede down the hallways to get to it.
The peanut buster parfait at DQ is EVERYTHING. I've been getting it my whole life. There's just something about hot fudge in cold vanilla ice cream & then the texture crunch of the peanuts w the saltiness all together that makes it OUTSTANDING.
omg, that ice cube moment, and both your reactions almost had me on the floor from laughing so hard. DQ always reminds me of my childhood. Thanks for the video!
I kept wondering why Alessio kept saying “die” throughout the video. Turns out he’s saying “dai” which basically translates to “that’s crazy” or “give me a break”
Ditto. (I hope they don't go back and try to turn anything other than a blizzard upside down).⬅ Back in those days, the regular DQs only had ice cream treats and sodas. The DQs that also served food were branded as "DQ Brazier".
The Pistachios ice cream varies a bit. There is a local place where I live that sells it. It's also green, but not THAT green.. Also .. LOTS and LOTS of smashed pieces of actual Pistachios in it. One of my favorites.. But it sucks in a lot of ice cream shops.
It’s terrible quality, with lots of cheap ingredients, like corn syrup. What a horrible idea. He’ll definitely hate it. It’s nothing like Italian gelato.
@Parker-930 Not being anything like Italian gelato is expected, but yes, it's bad (not unlike almost every other ice cream alternative). But I like seeing his reactions to American chemical products. I'd like to see him try other store-bought ice creams too.
@Ayan-bp4dq - I can see your point, but as an American, I get embarrassed when people from other countries, try our worst products. We do have some premium ice cream brands that are high-quality and don’t use cheap ingredients or chemicals. I’d like to promote those and show that the US does make worthwhile products that are available to a wide range of people, not just those willing to spend lots of money in high-end expensive grocery stores.
I remember as kids living in LI, NY. We would visit my Nonno and Nonna Ferrari in Bensonhurst in Brooklyn. My Nonno would always take us kids to Dairy Queen to get soft serve cones. (Back in the 70's). They didn't have Blizzards then on the menu.
At DQ I always order a dip cone and my mom likes the orange Julius! I need to try a blizzard but I think it is partly nostalgia from when I was a kid! Makes it taste good from the good memories!
I remember when DQ didn't even sell Blizzards. Seems like they didn't come out until the mid to late 1980s, and obviously they were a success. My mom, my brother and I used to go there and one would order the dilly bar, one would order the banana split, and one would order the peanut buster parfait and we'd all share, so we could each have some of them all. They used to sell things like vanilla coke, coke (or root beer floats) and their cherry limes were amazing. Haven't been there in about 4 or 5 years now, but you guys brought back some memories for me. 👍
The best ice cream I ever had was on a cruise ship and it was cinnamon flavour. Nothing however, beats the incredible gelato I had at a little shop in Sicily. ❤
I used to work at DQ when I was a student through work and travel student program and there were no so tiny portions of ice cream and I was never told to flip the blizzards)))) so cool to know this now after almost twenty years)))))))
This was awesome y’all. Maybe you can try to make homemade ice cream for a video? You could compare the kind you need special salt for and the kind you make in a machine that doesn’t need the salt. I think there’s a method of rolling a coffee can or something like that as well. You could rate it based on time it takes to make it (from putting ingredients together to frozen state), consistency, taste, cost (machine cost, ingredient cost) and overall happiness on a scale of maybe 0-5 or 0-10. Btw, hearing “the Dairy Queen Guy” recognize you and talk about how he and his wife are fans was super exciting! I can’t imagine how awesome that must feel but the gigantic smiles on your faces spoke volumes. Can’t wait to see the next video! 🤘🏻☺️💕
The reason why Dairy Queen hands Blizzards to you upside down is because they’re supposed to be thick and well blended. If the Blizzard plops out or they forget to hold it upside down you receive a Blizzard for free.
I didn’t know this!! Thanks for sharing!! I’ve had a couple they didn’t turn upside down because it was melted due to long drive thru line. Still good. 😊
@bekind21another I had a friend in high school that worked at a Dairy Queen. They had to turn them upside down before giving them the treat. There is a sign on the takeout window that states the Blizzard is free if it isn’t held upside down. My friend gained weight there because of eating so many Blizzards. She admitted she purposely messed some orders up so she could eat them. She hated the machine because it was messy while blending especially if people added in extra items. Cleaning the machine was a pain too. I love Blizzards but they’re so expensive now.
I've never had a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. As a kid, I always got the Chocolate Dipped Cone, and then one day I decided to try the Strawberry Sundae. From that day forward, I've ALWAYS ordered the Strawberry Sundae. It is so good!!
I had a friend send me Jeni’s ice cream as a get well gift when I had a major accident. The flavors were creative, but I didn’t feel the ice cream itself was that wonderful. If you guys want the best ice cream ever, the next time you are in NY, take a trip about 90 minutes north of NYC in Orange County to a place called Bellvale Creamery. They make ice cream from their own dairy farm. They say they are inspired by Italian gelato. Flavors are very natural. I think Alessio would approve. Also, it’s never too cold to eat ice cream!
When I was little my mom would take us to the gelato place at the grocery store, I want to say the store was Harmons but I can’t remember. It was really good, to this day I think about that gelato. I’ve never been to Italy so I can’t compare.
Loved this one! DQ is nostalgic, more than anything. Everyone loves Blizzards. I'd love to see an Italian junk food video. What's the Italian equivalent of a Little Debbie snack cake? 😂
Uuuuggghhh !!! I dont think anybody makes that garbage besides Little Debbie's. It's just sugar with a pretty tasteless cake; the fast way to diabetes !
Italy provides the best gelato in the world and Aotearoa New Zealand provides the best ice cream in the world. There is nothing in the rest of the world that can beat them.
If you have a local dairy farm that makes ice cream try them out. In my part of Ohio we have Young's Dairy, they have the best ice cream. I used to like grocery store ice cream but they have changed the ingredients, it comes through in flavor and quality. Seems they are now using the cheapest ingredients to make expensive ice cream. I have not had blue bunny ice cream in a while but that was my favorite brand.
If you think the creamery scoops are generous, you should get ice cream at the grindstone general store in the thumb of Michigan! Ice cream tastes great too! Dq is fake nasty ice cream.
There's an Italian man "massimo massimo" that uploads recipes, mostly cookies & bread, show him some love 🥺 he barely gets views I've been subscribed for a few months now
Dairy Queen is Ice Milk. Not ice cream. I used to manage a DQ for 5 years. My favorite is a chocolate ice milk chocolate dipped cone. So good! Blizzards are great too. Pecan cookie with caramel from back in the day was the best!! 😃😃
The gelato in Italy is so good 😋 Where I live in NY we have an ice cream shop called Chillato that serves gelato. You almost feel like you’re eating gelato in Italy. I had the nocciola flavor and it was delicious.
Went to a marble slab creamery a few years ago and got the cotton candy to share with my kiddo. Big mistake lol. There's a reason why you shouldn't eat toxic dyed food 😂. I did hesitate a little since it was soo blue and I should've listened to instinct. My two year old had the runs and it was dark green and foul smelling.
Love this video and you guys! You’ve got to add Cold Stone to your list! It also would be fun to see you both compare store bought ice creams like Ben & Jerry’s, Kroger, etc.
The "She lie" always cracks me up! 😂 I just came across a green nail polish named Pistachio and realized I now pronounce it like Alessio from watching your videos. If Jessie needs it, it's Dazzle Dry brand. Lol ❤
The "official" way (according to Bryers) of tasting ice cream is to turn the spoon upside down so that the treat is on the tongue.
Some of the best places are small dairies which sell fresh milk, eggs, cheese, and ice cream.
So there's a story behind why they flip the Blizzards. Samuel Temperato, the DQ franchise owner who came up with the idea for Blizzards, was inspired by the frozen treats sold by Ted Drewes, a St. Louis shop owner who termed them “concrete”. Drewes had enough and one day flipped the malt upside down to show its thickness, assuring his young customer that if it fell out, it was free. Temperato picked this up for Dairy Queen!
Nice, thanks for sharing!
And Ted Drewes is so good!
Born and raised in StL. I approve this message and I miss my Ted Drewes
I never knew this and yes Ted Drewes is amazing!!! I can remember in high school they would do a Ted Drewes Day and gave it to us for free, there was practically a stampede down the hallways to get to it.
I miss Ted Drewes but at least we have an Andy's nearby now
If only Alessio could order a serving of real, Italian gelato for each of us, LOL!
I also only like eating pistacchios and pistacchio flavor in Italy. I agree with Jessie on this.
The peanut buster parfait at DQ is EVERYTHING. I've been getting it my whole life. There's just something about hot fudge in cold vanilla ice cream & then the texture crunch of the peanuts w the saltiness all together that makes it OUTSTANDING.
Oh man, when I was a teenager that was my only thing I ate there. Unfortunately, bad teeth so I can’t eat peanuts 😭, but it’s so yum:
Yes, that was my number one as a teenager when I would go with my dad for ice cream
Great description!!
The precursor to the Peanut Buster Parfait was the Buster Bar. It came out in 1968. On its success, they started the Peanut Buster Parfait in 1971.
I agree!!! Only I add pb sauce to the peanut buster parfait and boom! That’s the treat!!!
DQ is soft serve 🍦
The reason for the spoon up to down is because if you suffer from sensitive teeth in the past it helps you enjoy the ice cream
omg, that ice cube moment, and both your reactions almost had me on the floor from laughing so hard. DQ always reminds me of my childhood. Thanks for the video!
That was so cute the DQ guy recognized you!!! 🤗
Dq Also how the guy there knew who you were gets extra points!!
Pistachio ice cream truly has an incredible taste. Yrs ago in NY going to an Italian ice cream shop was so different.
Butterfinger Blizzard
Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia at the grocery store! Yum! 😊❤
I kept wondering why Alessio kept saying “die” throughout the video. Turns out he’s saying “dai” which basically translates to “that’s crazy” or “give me a break”
Oh man the artisan place close to us does an amazing brown butter ice cream, I wish you had tried that! ❤
I must be ancient but I remember a time before the blizzard. My favorite was, and still is, the dipped cone.
😂❤me too
Ditto. (I hope they don't go back and try to turn anything other than a blizzard upside down).⬅
Back in those days, the regular DQs only had ice cream treats and sodas. The DQs that also served food were branded as "DQ Brazier".
Gotta try the chocolate dipped cone or a loaded banana split!
This video deserves millions of views.
Ice cream review: Va a cagare lol
In East Texas I like Braum's Milk and Ice Cream.💙🙏
My husband and I are big Dairy Queen fans. We always go for the chocolate shakes instead of blizzards. Best chocolate shakes ever!
She has such a lovely smile.
You two are absolutely adorable... have you thought of visiting the Italy pavilion at Disney's Epcot!? I volunteer as private tour guide ;)
The Pistachios ice cream varies a bit. There is a local place where I live that sells it. It's also green, but not THAT green.. Also .. LOTS and LOTS of smashed pieces of actual Pistachios in it. One of my favorites.. But it sucks in a lot of ice cream shops.
Let Alessio try Talenti and see what he thinks of American store bought gelato
Good idea!
I agree!
It’s terrible quality, with lots of cheap ingredients, like corn syrup. What a horrible idea. He’ll definitely hate it. It’s nothing like Italian gelato.

I loved watching about the ice cream. When I was a kid Dad took me to get a dipped cone. It was so good to me. Ya'll are great at this. ❤❤❤❤🎉
I went to a Marble Slab years ago and asked for Coffee Ice Cream. They thought I was nuts. I guess it's a North Eastern thing.
I imagine you 2 swinging in a swing on a hot summer day eating and ice cream cone 😄. Good video takes me back to my childhood 🍦😋😄
Jessi I absolutely love these videos. Alessio is a good sport. And you two are a wonderful amazing couple.
At DQ I always order a dip cone and my mom likes the orange Julius! I need to try a blizzard but I think it is partly nostalgia from when I was a kid! Makes it taste good from the good memories!
You guys are the best....so genuine and hilarious and so much fun to watch! You have such a great rapport!
Cold Stone Creamery is the best ice cream place.
I remember when DQ didn't even sell Blizzards. Seems like they didn't come out until the mid to late 1980s, and obviously they were a success. Can’t wait to see the next video! 🤘🏻☺️💕
Trader Joe has excellent ice cream.
If they forget to turn the blizzard upside down... You get it free.
Hello from Canada. We will go out for ice cream and Slurpees/slushies in the middle of winter. lol
I love his reaction to the flip cup 😂
I dunno if someone responded already, but they tip them upside down because if the blizzard falls out or drips, you get one for free lol
The reason why Dairy Queen hands Blizzards to you upside down is because they’re supposed to be thick and well blended. If the Blizzard plops out or they forget to hold it upside down you receive a Blizzard for free.

I love your videos! I just discovered you guys and I watch your clips to brighten up my days! Thank you so much!
Thats a great idea Jessi. I ALWAYS get brain freeze when i eat ice cream. I will definetly have to try that!!
I've never had a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. As a kid, I always got the Chocolate Dipped Cone, and then one day I decided to try the Strawberry Sundae. From that day forward, I've ALWAYS ordered the Strawberry Sundae. It is so good!!

100% agree with Bellvale! So good!
Yes I can see the bright green as a pistachio but I can also see your ice cream is melting😂
Penso che qualsiasi gelato in vaschetta del reparto supermercato ovviamente industriale, sia sicuramente sempre migliore di quello Americano!
When I was little my mom would take us to the gelato place at the grocery store, I want to say the store was Harmons but I can’t remember. It was really good, to this day I think about that gelato. I’ve never been to Italy so I can’t compare.

Uuuuggghhh !!! I dont think anybody makes that garbage besides Little Debbie's. It's just sugar with a pretty tasteless cake; the fast way to diabetes !
The best ice cream I had was in Pescara ,a city in Abruzzo.
Italy provides the best gelato in the world and Aotearoa New Zealand provides the best ice cream in the world. There is nothing in the rest of the world that can beat them.
If you have a local dairy farm that makes ice cream try them out.

I have not had blue bunny ice cream in a while but that was my favorite brand.
I wish they have Diary Queen in Singapore. I tried for the first time in the Philippines and it was awesome...
Understand that DQ is soft serve which is different than traditional ice cream.
Had Pistachio Gelato in Florence- really amazing flavor.
I remember the gelato in Rome…best ever! It puts everything else to shame :)
If you think the creamery scoops are generous, you should get ice cream at the grindstone general store in the thumb of Michigan! Ice cream tastes great too! Dq is fake nasty ice cream.
She lie she lie!!!🤪😂😆❣️
Turkeyhill Farms makes a great pistachio and almond ice cream. It has pieces of almonds and pistachios in it
I am from New England. Ice Cream is year round treat. Ok, a food group all year round😮
Next time you go to Dairy Queen, try their chocolate strawberry Blizzard!
Butterfinger or snickers blizzard. Rumor is, if they don’t flip it, it’s free.
Now you need to do sherbet vs. sorbet and American gelato vs Italian gelato!!
The best gelato in the world is in San Gimignano, Italy!!
There's an Italian man "massimo massimo" that uploads recipes, mostly cookies & bread, show him some love 🥺 he barely gets views I've been subscribed for a few months now
You are cutest couple in entire social media, 🧿bless you with each second more and more wonderful and happy moments 💐
Dairy Queen is Ice Milk. Not ice cream. I used to manage a DQ for 5 years. My favorite is a chocolate ice milk chocolate dipped cone. So good! Blizzards are great too. Pecan cookie with caramel from back in the day was the best!! 😃😃
When Alessio said Cremation 💀💀💀
If Culvers is in your area you should try the frozen custard they sell.
I love how "winter" to them is like 66f lol
In Pennsylvania the best ice cream is homemade at the local farm creamery
If you can get it, try Edy's Slow Churn Chocolate. It's my wife's (who was born in Italy) favorite.
I wonder what your thoughts would be on the same level of ice cream, but from different stores. For example: Dairy Queen vs. McDonalds.
The gelato in Italy is so good 😋 Where I live in NY we have an ice cream shop called Chillato that serves gelato. You almost feel like you’re eating gelato in Italy. I had the nocciola flavor and it was delicious.
The pumpkin pie blizzard is so good. I have a pumpkin problem but please have him try it you too, it is so good
Love this 😂❤
Went to a marble slab creamery a few years ago and got the cotton candy to share with my kiddo. Big mistake lol. There's a reason why you shouldn't eat toxic dyed food 😂. I did hesitate a little since it was soo blue and I should've listened to instinct. My two year old had the runs and it was dark green and foul smelling.
Jessie's spoon-up ice cream eating method is a yes from me.
He needs to try frozen custard
Thanks!
I like it creamy not melted 😋
When I go to Dairy Queen, I order a small vanilla crinkle coat cone. It's my fave.
Alessio: "A CUBE DE ICE!"
Me: 😄😂🤣
"I the honest!" 😇😇😇😂😂😂
Love, love, love DQ!!! Always get vanilla cone, rainbow sprinkles!
Love this video and you guys! You’ve got to add Cold Stone to your list! It also would be fun to see you both compare store bought ice creams like Ben & Jerry’s, Kroger, etc.
I never go to Cold Stone.....it was started by Doug Ducey, who is the outgoing governor of AZ.
Lol BREAKING NEWS the Italian doesn’t like an American food item 😂
Lots of love from India 🇮🇳
I love you guys and you are my stressbusters, cute couple, I'll be eagerly waiting for your video vlogs
We had a corner store with the best ice cream when I was as kid!
You have to try the pumpkin pie blizzard! So good! I use to get the banana pudding blizzard. Bananas, cookie bits, and whipped cream. It was divine!
Quel "fa cacare" così all'improvviso m'ha fatto spisciare! 😄😄😄😄
That’s so funny. Where I’m from, we have Cold Stone Creamery. A frozen slab of marble where they mix the flavors together
The "She lie" always cracks me up! 😂 I just came across a green nail polish named Pistachio and realized I now pronounce it like Alessio from watching your videos. If Jessie needs it, it's Dazzle Dry brand. Lol ❤
#1 y'all should try rolled ice cream and #2 tony's ice cream in Gastonia North Carolina is the best
I would love it if you guys went to Aldi and tried their gelato. I'm curious how he would feel it compared.
Great idea of spoon upside down!
They hold it upside down to show you how thick it is. Kind of like how people do that with whipped cream to show proper consistency.
Jessie and Alessio try the store bought Talenti Gelato it's totally awesome!
Totally agreed with you ! 💯 that’s the only ice cream that I do buy 🍧
@carolinandreau It's totally awesome!
Love it!🍦😋
Hey guys, loving your videos recently hehe. You guys need to try Mr Whippy in the uk. It’s the best ice cream ever!
There is a place in Henderson TN called Bessos. They serve espresso and gelato. Might be worth the drive out here mi amici.
When you want to be bougi at DQ get the bannana split
You should take him to a Baskin Robbins. He should also try an ice cream cake.
