The Charlie & the Chocolate Factory soundtrack still slaps

I hope these "snack foods" haven't given you too bad of an impression of American food as a whole. Granted we do have lots of obesity issues here, but there are still enough American-originated recipes, lunches and dinners that aren't convenience-store grade snack foods. I suppose I should start in the dessert department, though, so I'll suggest Shoofly Pie; it's a Molasses Pie with a crust of Flour that sinks from the top to the bottom, so the pie gets less crusty as you go down. I think its name likely originated from the need to keep flies from sticking in the Molasses when people are eating food outside at a picnic, but I've never confirmed that. It does make sense, but I'm not sure if that's why.
I ate a warhead as an adult and it had been so long I thought it would really hit me and it was really sour for like a few seconds but then tolerable which is not how I remembered as a kid! The sweet part is pretty decent lol

That is not muscle tension from sour, it is the salivary glands behind the jaw squeezing more saliva out in reaction to the sour. When you watch cooking competition shows the judges experience this when a contestant makes something sour and some of the judges like it!
In the 1970s we took regular instant Jello, licked our finger, and dipped them into the powder. no need for a stick and ran around with bright-colored index fingers it was cheap candy, and one box lasted all afternoon.

They were called Nik-L-Nips, they came several to a little cardboard carrier, and you chewed the bottle like gum afterward.

Before chewing gum was invented, people chewed wax. I use to chew my mom's canning wax she used for canning jelly. lol

We had the wax bottles all the time when we were kids. Just bite the top off, drink the juice, & chew the wax awhile. We loved Fun Dip too.

I think it only has a laxative effect if you drink several back to back in excess, but if you drink it moderately then I think it’s OK
