I was a preschool teacher and a single mom, my daughter was a year and a half and got sick and was dehydrated she had to be hospitalized. I called my boss and told her and she had the nerve to tell me she expected me to be at work the next morning. So she wanted me to leave my baby in the hospital by herself and go there and take care of other children. I told her she could keep her job and I wouldn't be back.

I was born 3 months premature and spent a little over 6 months in the NICU. I had an array of health problem and needed multiple surgeries. My mom and dad had a two year old at home and I cannot imagine how hard that was for them. The doctors said I had a 1% chance of surviving. They called me a miracle baby when I started to show signs of recovering. I’m now 23 and grateful for everyday I wake up. So much respect for parents who go through that. 💕💕

I think a big issue comes in with people not feeling like mothers who adopt are "real mothers" in general. They clearly showed favoritism towards the woman who was actually pregnant at the same time. God forbid, if it had been her and her baby, things probably would've gone differently. I think mothers/parents who adopt shouldn't be treated differently. They're still "having a baby".

100%. ❤ whether it's an adopted baby or giving birth or having a surrogate or whatever the circumstance there should be at least 6 weeks of paid time, which is a bare minimum. Leaving baby at 6 weeks is terrible. Mom's shouldn't have to make that choice unless they want to

The whole kyte thing is unforgivable I will never buy from them again. Maternity leave is atrocious in this country, and a company taking that kind of stand doesn't surprise me at all, but for a baby company to not accomodate a mother with a baby in the nicu for a short time by letting her work remote is just insane to me. Also the way she said things like her adoptive baby instead of just baby was so dismissive of adopted parents. She didn't give a shit that, that poor baby would be alone in the nicu if mom came back to work. Shows thier true colors. Shocking for a baby company to not be mother and baby friendly. Also wtf is with the 2 week timeframe from a baby brand whose founder has 5 kids...smh do better

    • @AprilJean19

@AprilJean19 while I agree that what this company did is messed up, I wouldn't expect them to give her paid time off. They give the 2 weeks paid and that's it. Most companies aren't going to just pay someone for months who isn't working at all. Hell I worked up until the day before I had my daughter. And I didn't even get 2 weeks paid leave so I would have appreciated having just that. Lol I didn't get anything. I worked as much as I could while pregnant so i could save up to be off. It's horrible how companies treat mothers.

    • @AprilJean19
      @AprilJean19 5 месяцев назад

@@britnysnyder4991 I’m sorry you went through that. I work in HR (in the US) and most companies are moving towards at least six weeks paid leave for both mother and father; this leave is used for both natural births as well as adoption for bonding time. So, I think to be competitive with what other companies offer, especially considering that Kyte is a company built around babies and parenthood, they should have a policy that offers paid time off for adoptions. I don’t think she should have been expected to work, even remotely, while tending to her child and dealing with the emotions of a severely early premie in the NICU. Just my viewpoint. I am very passionate about this issue and am hoping to use my influence in HR management and organizational behavior to call for change in the area of parental rights in the workplace.

He weighed 2lb 11oz and was born in a city several hours away from our home, where I had been LifeFlighted to a large, more capable hospital. My ex-MIL set up a fundraiser for the situation through her church, I assumed to help us with expenses. I never saw any of that money and when I asked about it I was told that she’d been giving handouts to my husband so that he could travel back and forth to visit. He was an addict (still is, unfortunately) and from what I remember, he only came to visit us for 3 days out of the 11 weeks our son was in the NICU.
I hope the mother in this situation takes full advantage of this brand owner’s poor choice and spends as much time as possible with her new son. I’m glad that everyone is being made aware of this! Support mothers, no matter how they got there. ❤️

I had a baby for my sister who can’t have kids. I lost my best friend and other friends because, “I should have womened up and raised my own kid.” Even after explaining this is the only way my sister could become a mom. Her adopting from family still cost her 10,000$ in legal fees. Fertility treatments, IVF and surrogacy aren’t cheap either. I got scrutinized by strangers, example: “congrats on your baby.” “Oh thanks but im actually having a baby for my sister, so it’s her baby.” “How could you just abandon your baby like that?” Eyeroll. Her coworkers, family (we are half sisters) and friends all told her, “Don’t get your hopes up, she probably won’t give you that baby.” What an absolute horrible thing to say to an expecting, first time mother. Also a total attack on my character. You think I’d reach out to my sister, offer this on my own, get her hopes up after I saw her come to every single doctor appointment and she how happy and excited she was, just utterly destroy her? That’s disgusting. Adopted parents and parents who chose to put their kids up for adoption deserve more respect and consideration. The hospital even brought the baby to my room after labor after we specifically explained the whole situation, it really pissed me off. Everyone made my sister so paranoid she expressed to me out of fear not to come around for a few months because she was so scared id change my mind and take her baby back. All I wanted to do was enjoy what should of been one of the most happiest moments in my family’s life. Could you imagine how that feels immediately postpartum? I was treated so poorly I severely failed my postpartum examination and they wanted to 5150 me. Luckily they agreed just for me to continue see a psychiatrist 2 a week. He’s such a mommas boy lol it isn’t easy and I think it should be more talked about so people really know what they’re signing up for and have positive support system.

As a medical mom I can not imagine the stress Melissa was under not only worrying about her child’s health, trying to balance her mental health, adjust to the hospital/medical needs life but on top of that she has to worry about her job which happens to be a company…. For kids….. what a joke. Kyte wouldn’t of ever apologized had they not got public backlash. Before her clients got upset it was ‘oh so you want maternity leave’ then after the public called her out and she saw the sales going down all of a sudden she’s understanding and empathetic on Tik Tok? I hope people see through this bs. People who take advantage and walk over families in the hospital are the worst type!!! I had someone try to scam me using my sons heart surgery making me believe I needed to pay this hospital bill. It was scary how they had all my information and even scarier how they took advantage of us at such a vulnerable time.

I’ve been a NICU nurse for around 6 months now, and 22 weeks is absolutely insane. I am very surprised that the baby has survived this long, as my hospital is just now starting to be able to care for that extreme stage of prematurity. I can almost guarantee that baby will have complications for the rest of their life, not to mention pretty consistently during their stay. Babies that small can go downhill so fast, and our technology (while still improving) sometimes can’t keep up with it. For example, my team noticed that we don’t have chest tubes small enough for a 25 weeker… because it’s only recently that we have been able to save them. Additionally, I would be surprised if the baby is discharged by March. My guess is that baby will probably be there for the better part of the year depending on his status. If he’s on oxygen support, or any medication drips, etc, that can prolong his stay. Since he is so premature, they will have to “teach” him how to eat which could take a while because some babies have difficulty coordinating their sucking/swallowing/breathing or even being interested in the bottle/breast. I am sending all good and positive vibes that family’s way🫶🏻

As a mother who had an emergency c-section at 24 weeks pregnant, there is nothing scarier than seeing your little 1 pound baby in the NICU. Not knowing every second of the day if your baby will love or die. Your mind can’t concentrate on anything else than hoping and praying that your baby lives, and your whole life becomes being a NICU baby parent. It consumes every aspect of your life. It’s absolutely devastating knowing the situation they are in, and it’s so wrong. Prayers for their baby.

I’m a librarian and so I’m a government employee, full time, and my job doesn’t offer maternity leave. When I got hired the HR rep was like “ well we don’t have a cap on sick time so you can use all of what you’ve occurred, and you can apply for a month of paid medical leave, and get up to 3 months of unpaid leave” which I was like… that doesn’t sound good like what if I break my arm the same year I get pregnant, or have to use up sick time for doctors appointments or complications? They only give like 3 hours of sick time a month so It takes a really long time to build it up enough. I thought with getting this job It’d at least come with maternity leave since its the government?? can’t believe it. Canada gives 17-72 weeks paid maternity leave. For any position. That’s how it should be, to come back when your ready because there’s not telling how long it will take for you to heal, or if you have complications or anything like its just common sense.

FMLA doesn’t pay so I could only take an advancement of 24 hours of PTO, which left me in the negatives for like 6 months & then I only got 3 days off for bereavement after he passed Sunday night at almost midnight. This was almost a year ago. Going back to work was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It almost broke me…

On my second pregnancy now and with my first was only given two weeks paid maternity leave but ONLY because I had saved up my PTO (it was accrued). Was not covered by short term disability. This time, new company/job yet similar scenario. Two weeks paid PTO and the remainder of the 6-8 weeks are unpaid (paid by Short term disability). I do work from home and with my previous job I was able to work part time from home for an additional 4 weeks. I think the US needs to get their shit together about maternity leave 110%, and paternity leave as well. Would love a deep dive podcast on WHY the US has chosen this path and what other countries maternity/paternity leave policies are.

So eye opening to hear how different maternity leave is treated from country to country. Makes me feel very fortunate for sure! Ontario where I am pays you 55% of your wage for 1 year or 33% if you do 18 months. My employer tops me up to 75% of my wage for 25 weeks. Even having that pay cut makes it hard so I can’t imagine how hard it must be for so many people that can’t get anything. I did 16 months with my son but am pregnant again now and hope to swing the 18 months with my daughter if we can manage financially. Such a precious time with our babies that you can’t get back. Best wishes in your pregnancy.

I saw many adoptive parents with their NICU babies and they were just as damaged as I was. It is hard enough to only be able to touch your baby through an incubator and to hold them only once a day, if that. The CEO should be absolutely ashamed of herself.

My mom had 7 miscarriages and my older sister (who was probably close to Judah’s size) only lived two days. My mom stayed in the hospital for the last four months until my lungs were mature and they got me out and then of course I had to stay in the NICU. I was born in ‘91 so I don’t know how much it would’ve been then, but my best friend’s daughter just turned 13 months and my friend got 8 months off and went to a private doctor and paid ~$350. I was home with him for two weeks when I received the news over the phone that I was being laid off. Wtf?? First time mom with a brand new baby and all the hormones and feelings that go along with it and I've lost my job. I had to meet the HR director, not at the office, but a public location to get my last check, box of my personal items and severence pay. I also had to sign an NDA. Gee do you think by making me sign an NDA that they felt this was super shitty?! This was a small company that I worked at for 8 years and I was just a number 😢 Luckily my husband was able to get us on his insurance right away. I started sending out resumes right away and at 6 months I found a job that paid better, met people who are still my friends and learned so much. The USA has the worst medical and HR policies 😕

I’m an adoptive mom. I work for a non-profit. My leave was the same as my coworkers who gave birth to their children. They had a shower for me after he was born. That was MY choice to,do,it after, as we had previous adoptions fall through. But my shower was on-par with every other shower that was given.
It pains me that in this day and age, adoption is still treated with less respect that traditional family planning. My child, who is 8, started to write his birth story when assigned to write a personal narrative. Since then he has been teased and made fun of, and basically bullied. He changed his story, one he was once proud of, to us adopting our dog, instead.
Adoption needs to be normalized. And I am glad the agency where I’m work sees it that way, too. This story hurts me so much.

We were unable to work during these times in order to be with him at the hospital. During hospital admissions, I have always packed his kyte baby sleep sack to keep him warm and comfortable. Not anymore, I’ll be finding a new brand. I cannot support a company who wouldn’t support my baby and my family.

In Canada, we get 52 weeks paid maternity leave. But it’s 60% of your wage. You have to work/ build up 600 hours at your job before you can go on maternity leave. (So basically no getting a new job when you find out, or you may not be able to get the full 600hrs)
I went on mat leave at 36 weeks pregnant and went back to work when my daughter was 10 months old. Worked for us, but in Canada now, our daycare is a little backed up, I recommend putting your babies on wait lists right when they’re born! Honestly. It’s crazy.

Just gotta say how truly empathetic Kendall is. 'Empath' is a word that's thrown around so much but every time she covers something sensitive, no matter how big or small, she doesn't miss a beat when speaking about the subject matter and the people/person behind the story. She doesn't make it a "me, me, me" thing which can be difficult when relating to a topic. She expresses it so eloquently and humbly while still covering the topic clearly and also has the ability to put herself in the shoes of that person.
I don't tend to hype up the people I watch or really involve myself in the comments but I had to say it because it's such a rare trait these days. Such a genuinely compassionate human. That's my girl right there.

This country is absolutely terrible when it comes to being family oriented, the country is a business. They dont give a flying crap about their people as long as the higher ups pockets are padded and things run well for them.

I feel for you all. In Ontario Canada we get 1 year paid maternity leave and you can split it between you and your spouse if you wanted.

In Oregon it’s a mandatory 3 months off. It’s not paid but the companies have to let you stay home for those months without loosing the position and hours you had before you left. It’s maternity and paternity leave for bio or non bio children.

How any one who has as many kids she has (I mean, it should only take one. Or zero if you have any empathy) can only give someone TWO. WEEKS. OF LEAVE. blows my freaking mind.

Shockingly enough, the post office does not provide leave.

I have worked at a local bank for almost 10 years, we are required to use our vacation time as maternity leave and that’s all we get unless we sign up for short term disability which pays less than regular salary, it’s really unfortunate.

Highly recommend The Sleepy sloth pajamas! Their pajamas are made of bamboo and they have the cutest prints. They also make matching pajamas for moms. I have so many sets of matching Jammie’s with my daughter and son! And they have amazing customer service! It’s women owned as well❤

My mom had me at 28 weeks. I weighed 3lbs 4oz. I was in the nicu for 7 weeks due to a bowl issue, and I had surgery on my intestines at 1 day old.
My mom and dad were in the middle of a divorce when she had me on top of having 2 dons at home. I literally wore a doll dress for months because i was only 17in long.

In all seriousness I live in Arvada and now I’m MAD that the cereal bar isn’t open anymore!!! 😭 that would have been my favorite place ever.
