hi janelle, on your worrying about being a bad parent: bad parents never worry if they're bad parents. half of being good at it is just loving your kid(s) and being there for them. you'd be a great mom, because you love fiercely and with your whole heart. i'm a person who doesn't want my own kids and never has, but i ended up with three stepchildren and everything has been going great.

I love this conversation with Carly. I just gave birth about 7 months ago to my second son. I’m a recovering addict and didn’t know that an epidural has fentanyl in it. I asked for it and the first nurse (before shift change) looked at me with disgust and asked if I was sure and told me all these reasons why it would be a “bad decision”. I had one with my first son so I was firm on having it. Once I found out what was in it, I was shocked and it hit me that she was looking at me like just another addict and it made me so sad and angry. I’m a MOTHER. Yes, I had an addiction but I’ve beat it for 5 years and I’m a better person now. It’s very sad that people especially nurses still look at us as less than. Moral of the story, ADVOCATE! ADVOCATE! ADVOCATE! No matter what they say, it’s your body and you have the right to accept or deny anything. Thank you Kendall and Janelle for having this very important conversation!🎉❤😊

      Good Lord, REALLY!?!? 😮😮😮
I'm a drug and alcohol psychologist, and I am also a recovering addict, and when I had my son, though it was about 15 year's before my addiction issue's started, NEVER EVER was I made aware of that fact. I think it should be something EVERYONE is told as a matter of course, but ABSOLUTELY should you NOT be treated like s**t if you choose to have one!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for sharing this information 🌹🌹🌹

Janelle, I am 41 & was not sure I wanted kids. I had the SAME thoughts as you. I was intimidated by kids & by friends that knew they wanted them. My husband wanted them so I went along with it & I wound up really finding myself. I’m the best mom & am confident. I honestly think I went into it with a better mindset because I didn’t have predetermined thoughts about it. Anyway, good on you for thinking hard on it. Just don’t let the questioning of it intimidate you. ❤️

I know I’m late so they’ll probably never see this but JANELLE! I feel the exact same way at 1:18. It’s so hard to explain but I have the same thoughts! I just got a ten year iud placed about 7 months ago and I still feel ehh about it. I am 90% sure I don’t want kids and I swear that 10% doubt is because of our society and culture. It’s basically unheard of to choose to not have kids anymore.. or we’re not speaking loud enough. I just want you to know that you’re not alone!! And listening to you made me feel the same way, so thank you!

  • @mikaylaredona5978
    @mikaylaredona5978 Год назад +40

I am so happy that Janelle was so honest and she describes exactly the same way I feel about having kids. I wish it was normalized that “I want to do whatever I want, whenever I want” as a valid reason to not have kids. I personally still get horrified looks from people when Ive been brutally honest about “wanting to be selfish” when the topic has been brought up. (I personally have so many other reasons but I would say this the top reason for me). Also I think sometimes it’s just so inappropriate to keep asking people if they want to have kids repeatedly. I’ve gotten this so much especially since I just had my first wedding anniversary a couple of months ago.
Also not everyone who is married want have kids right away. I think I can speak for some recently-ish married people people that are tired if of the of then “So when are you having kids?” question. Let them just enjoy married life please.

Over the last two months I’ve developed chronic low back pain due to nerve damage and early onset arthritis. These videos are so appreciated and loved on days when I’m struggling to get out of bed and feel like a human being.
With chronic pain, it’s made it so much harder to sleep at night, but I tried the Lunar Lavenberry oil and it has been such a saving grace!! It has been one of the only reasons I can get any kind of rest at night. I ordered my first bottle two weeks ago and I just ordered two more yesterday!

Okay I HAVE to point this out to be better safe than sorry. In the last episode Janelle shared about the random magnet on her car and my theory was that maybe it wasn’t a tracking device but instead a stalker wanting to confirm it was Janelle’s car by waiting to see if she would talk about it on the podcast? Idk if that’s a reach but we both (my husband & me)100% think the magnet was placed intentionally and it couldn’t have been an accident. Especially hearing about that trash guy at the bar bothering Janelle I just had to share! Be safe ladies💓

I lucid dream most nights, I thought that was just how dreams were for everyone, I only found out recently it’s not common 🙈
On the topic of bad dreams, when you wake up come up with a new ending, my go-to is that it’s movie that I was acting in, and I image the red carpet and the wrap party, and see all the monsters out of the makeup and outfits, I hope that helps ❤

I did my PA school capstone thesis project on VBAC and thank you for discussing actual fact-based evidence Carlee!! When I did my presentation (this was about 6 years ago) my advisor said "what could you possibly find for new information. It is widely accepted and people are very open to it" and frankly no. I still seems to have this negative connotation about it. Even when I presented, the majority of the people who listened to my presentation knew nothing about VBAC and if they did, they'd always been told no and it is "too high risk" "it isn't worth it" blah blah blah. Really loved this conversation as someone who is a medical provider and continues to try and do my best to provide the best care possible and be as open-minded and empathetic as I can be! So informative!

Janelle I admire you for your honesty about not wanting kids and being on the fence about it now. There are more women with your thought process than you realize. You’re no less of a woman for not wanting them, not less loving or capable or being motherly) Now that I’m a mom I really and truly understand the women that don’t want to be moms . It’s a HUGE deal to have another human being that came from you and the one you love. And the last thing you want is to bring them into a world that’s going to be harsh. We all experience roughness in life . Or we simply don’t feel like we can ever be good enough or well equipped to handle another life and be better than our parents. The fears go on and on because it’s all unknown!
I’ll put it this way, I’ve wanted to be a mom my whole life. And I STILL was unprepared and didn’t know what was coming every time after three kids at my now age of 30 . And there’s more to come. From the moment I had my first until I die I will forever worry and I’ll always wonder if I could’ve done better. But life is like that in general. And I know I love my children and they love me , they’re dad does too and they adore him, and they’re happy and they tell me how good of a mom I am and that’s how I know I’m better than my parents were with me so despite the fear, God and my children and this motherly love I have for them have gotten me thru. And if you ever do have children, I can only assume the same will carry you through.
Side note: we’ve seen how you are with Charlie and if you’re that caring and sweet with your dog , one can imagine how darling and amazing you’ll be with your own child ❤

My psychology professor years ago told us that eating Vlasic Dill Spears (specifically those) before bed will help you lucid dream. He said he did a study on it in grad school. He also set up a humidifier with a timer to release a specific scent during different parts of the night where he was likely in REM, which he was able to predict based on studying his specific sleep habits, and then he could smell that scent and it would help him recall the dream he was having at that part of his dream cycle. He did his thesis on that. Very interesting.

To Janelle I never had the I want children feeling. Tbh I disliked kids. Zero maternal instincts. But it changes with your own. Least in my case. I’d literally die for my children. I also had* a friend who wanted kids their whole life. Soon as her son was 2-3 months old she left him with his father and never came back. That was 16yrs ago. Moral of the story, nothing is written in the stars

Janelle, thank you for mentioning that you only have bad dreams because I do too and always felt so alone.. I never have good dreams and I also do not know it's a dream when it's happening. Sometimes it gets so much worse than others that I cry or whimper in my sleep. When it's that bad I get scared and anxious to even go to sleep. I always felt crazy for it! It's not fun, but feels less lonely now! Thankfully my husband recognizes when the dreams get bad and he's able to wake me up out of it.😊 It feels like this was such a small part of this whole episode, but made such a big impact on me💜

I love hearing both of your perspectives on having children and Janelle I agree with your perspective that it’s difficult to decide because there’s no default gut feeling about having children or not, but that will make your experience much more special and might even show how great of a mother you could be because you really have to decide to have kids, against all else. I am sure you would be a great parent one day just like Kendall! ❤️❤️
