Sonic Advance 3 - Intro

- All right, let us begin Sonic Advance 3! For the first (and last) time in the Sonic Advance games, we're given a more complex plot, though you wouldn't really know just playing the game. It's in the supplementar materials, such as the manual.
Hot off the defeat in Sonic Battle, Dr. Eggman examines Emerl, a robot able to copy powers and use them simultaneously, and reverse-engineers it to make Gemerl (also known as Gemel, G-Mel , or G'mel), Emerl's gray successor. This one doesn't copy powers from Sonic and his friends the way Emerl did, but link up with Eggman's machines and gain powers as Eggman puts them in. Supposedly, this should keep Gemerl from going rogue like Emerl did. At the same time, something goes awry with Eggman trying to weaponize the Chaos Emeralds, having actually collected all seven, and splits the world into seven chunks, which we'd later see happen again in Sonic Unleashed. (Were you wondering why the Sonic Unleashed characters don't seem too bothered about this? It's because they'd already experienced it here.) In the chaos, Knuckles, Cream, and Amy get separated from Sonic and Tails, and each Chaos Emerald scattered to a different segment of the planet.
The game begins when Sonic and Tails head for te Chaos Emerald on the world chunk they're standing on, located on Route 99.
This game plays pretty differently from the other Sonic Advances in that you're using two characters: You play directly as one and receive abilities from the other, who follows behind you. Each of the combinations between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream result in different possible moves, and certain stages benefit more from these moves than others. These are the characters I have used in my playthrough:
Route 99 Zone - Tails and Sonic
Sunset Hill Zone - Amy and Knuckles
Ocean Base Zone - Tails and Amy
Toy Kingdom Zone - Cream and Tails
Twinkle Snow Zone - Sonic and Cream
Cyber Track Zone - Knuckles and Sonic
Chaos Angel Zone - Cream and Knuckles
Altar Emerald Zone - Amy and Cream
Nonaggression - Super Sonic and Dr. Eggman
I'll explain what each of these combinations do when I put up their respective Zones. I know that I can't show every combination here (there are 20 total, as the reverse combination provides different effects), and there are some interesting ones I don't show, so for those, you can check out someone else's video. Or play the game yourself if you have it.
I must also make another thing clear: For the two prior games, I demonstrated how to access the Special Stages. This time, the conditions are to find 10 Chao hidden in each Zone. Each time you discover one and finish the Act, the game saves and the Chao will forever be gone from that spot. Since I'm working off a 100% completion game save, like the other Sonic Advance games, the Chao are permanently relocated away, and instead the conditions to getting to a Special Stage becomes finding a key in any of the Zone's Acts. This game is also unique in that you're given rankings based on time. Thus, I'll have a different approach: Instead of showing how to get into the Special Stages, I'll grab at least one key playing the normal Acts, then show the Special Stage between the normal Acts and the boss stage.
Another note is that this is the first of the handheld platforming games to use voice clips and is the last Sonic game to use the Minella troupe (with Ryan Drummond as Sonic, Deem Bristow as Eggman, etc.). The announcer who yells, "Sonic Advance...THREE!!!" is John St. John, who played E-123 Omega in Sonic Heroes.
With that out of the way, let's head to Route 99 Zone.

This game represents the end of an era, not only was the last game of this trilogy it was also the last game with original voice cast that debuted in sonic Adventure

Oh, memories of playing this game on my mom's computer when I was 9 or maybe 10. But then I got stuck on a boss fight and gave up.

Aww, no Sonic and Amy? Their select screen (and team title) is priceless. And I heard they can do an infinite jump glitch.
I remember my copy of this GBA game way back in 2008. Than later until 2009, I didn't expecting my copy of this GBA got weird glitch bug causing literally unlock everything and even got all chaos emeralds when I start up the game on my DS lite.
And people say Eggman never has an orange mustache in the games...
Wasn't John St. John also the man who voiced Big the Cat in Sonic Heroes and Adventure 1? I might be mistaken there...

@@azurecorviknight4189 This is an old comment i know, but in Sonic heroes if cream is all alone her chao (cheese) actually does attack any enemy on sight! however its not as deadly like Advance 2&3(if you play as her paired with knuckles).

If you played it long after it came out, it probably wouldn't feel that special. The Sonic Advance series, though, were the first official 2-D platforming games from the Sonic franchise in 8 or 9 years. It was released right during the Adventure era and was a back-to-basics trio of games that contrasted the more popular story-heavy 3-D games. More 2-D gameplay has popped up in Sonic games since, some high-profile ones like Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces, so what the Sonic Advance games did are no longer that unique.
I never played it that’s all, I think if I get an emulator or the remake then I’ll get it

Really weird detail for them to change. I'm slightly annoyed by it interrupting the roll, but it doesn't actually change anything overall.
Those first seconds of the hub world are a somewhat cleverly disguised tutorial, but unfortunately it gets old after the first trip to Route 99.
I thought it was Ryan Drummond who did Sonic's voice, not Brian.

I like this intro, but I can't say I appreciate being forced to stare at Tails' butt. Fortunately the low video quality here spares us to some extent.
You never actually play as Super Sonic in Sonic Battle. It would've been cool, but no, you fight the awakened Emerl with normal Sonic.
Since you won't be showing the hub worlds, may I ask if the barrier at the very beginning of the first one can be destroyed by rolling? You can in the european version, but not in the US one that I've seen.
