The network promised Dave he was going to be Johnny Carson's replacement on The Tonight Show when Johnny eventually retired. Then they totally reneged and gave the job to the ultra-lame Jay Leno. So Dave left the network.
Hard to believe, before he was late night, Letterman had a morning show. It was pretty much the same format as his night show, but it didn't work in the 11am time slot.
23 years. Its SO weird, cos now we're like "The Who.. The Stones.. 60 years together..". These guys are young here. Jerry was 45 (in age.. if not in body). And yet we thought they were dinosaurs THEN.
Pigpen was the only one not on lsd. Jerry got 2 sheets of double dipped from Leary, before they left...None of them knew how strong it was until they took it...
I think Jerry truely saw Dave as a friend. Dave could tell who was being themselves, and who was faking themselves to promote themselves...That wasn't Jerry; Only time Jerry changed how he interacted, was when on heroin...
I think it's a subconscious way to have Jerry in his life. I think it's amazing that somebody is handsome as Bob Weir would actually be reincarnated into Jerry as much as he could be.
The fact is, the music the Dead played at Woodstock was EXCELLENT ! Jerry & the guys may have had an awful time, but the Dark Star and the Lovelight were all time great versions. Never trust a musician’s own assessment of their music, especially if it is biased by their personal experience.
I'm gonna say it. The Dead weren't that great. They noodled a lot on their instruments and had 5, maybe 6 good songs. Frankly, they were boring to watch live. The parking lot had great jams, but the dust and the grime kinda ruined it.
Thank you so much for leaving in the 1-800-THE-OMNI ... Nothing says 70s/80s late night TV like those hotel ads.
This got me scared that Bob Weir died.
Yeah right??? I'm even wearing my terrapin station shirt so that would've been sad

@@privatepenguin3137 Ive heard of him...he was I believe basketball? He was a tiny bit before my time.

@ObamaFromKenya Indeed he is!
One of the best late night shows ever made. Goofy Dave Letterman was very underrated and very entertaining for its time.
Underrated. A moron’s favorite word

I think Jerry is probably one of the greatest musicians of all time.
For him to say that to Paul and the guys is a very big compliment.
:) LIVE FROM NEW YORK!!!!
Ain’t nutin…On a good night Jerry could levitate a whole audience…The building some nights.🪿
Second night of the Warlocks in Hampton.. the roof blew off the building with the opening Help on the Way. Unforgettable.
Easy, tiger.... They were good, but so was Yes, The Crusaders, Boston, Avg White Band, and countless others
😢 is😅 mm no
Jerry Garcia was a 70 year old 45 year old man here.
And 23 years as a band seemed like a long time ... Sure, sure, that tape is 37 years old ... OMG! WE'RE ALL OLD!!
It’s crazy that Jerry was here how old I am now. He did look so old. I was 16 when he died. We all keep truckin.
There was no was. There only is. -William Faulkner.
What do you think he was so stressed about?
Oh man..the good old days.
Daves trousers are almost under his armpits 😂😂
Jerry: "I felt stupider"
😂

Jerry was pretty funny
When Jerry plays Space, he puts the scrabble pieces way in the corner on the triple word score...not touching any other letters.
Man I miss Jerry’s laugh
Right?
Dave clearly liked Jerry and Bob. He also liked Norm Macdonald. He had good taste.
And Warren Zevon
It got me hopeful that Jerry has come back
He did "of sorts"; Stayed clean for the rest of that year, and slowly slipped back into heroin addiction.
Tried to use Truckin against my wife. Yeah didn't fly with her either.
"No problem Dave..."
There's video of the Dead at Woodstock, bizarre stuff, long rap by Pig. Very strange.
Pigpen was the only one not on lsd. Jerry got 2 sheets of double dipped from Leary, before they left...None of them knew how strong it was until they took it...
That wasn’t pigpen. It was just some dude who took the stage.
Just as hilarious as the cold open when Dave was berating Jerry for not playing Proud Mary correctly
I think Jerry truely saw Dave as a friend. Dave could tell who was being themselves, and who was faking themselves to promote themselves...That wasn't Jerry; Only time Jerry changed how he interacted, was when on heroin...
Proud to be one of Jerry’s kids!
Is this channel able to upload The Mars Volta's January 2008 performance of Wax Simulacra PLEASE?
Its funny how Bob Weir was always clean cut...now HE'S the one who looks disheveled and homeless.
I think it's a subconscious way to have Jerry in his life.
I think it's amazing that somebody is handsome as Bob Weir would actually be reincarnated into Jerry as much as he could be.
Rofl: Jerry was admittingly tripping balls during woodstock. Had a sheet in his pocket, and was giving it to any new musicians as they arrived...
I have a copy of the Woodstock performance, it was not that bad. Sinking stages will do that to you.
I’ve heard many clips of different qualities and I agree, it was not that bad. I have never been able to get ahold of the Monterey one though.
@@cactaceousthe Viola Lee from Monterey circulates and is on RUclips.
@@sneakerfacevids441 Yeah, that one I saw not too long ago. Someone posted it during the pandemic but never been able to hear or see the full set.
FAN REQUEST: disappeared from the internet... Amos Lee "Seen it All Before" 2005. Even Letterman was blown away by that. Please?
Well, ya know, if one is tripping all the time, some performances might suffer.
who knew Paul was 2.5 feet tall. seems to take up a lot more space on camera.
Bob is healthy and fine.
i was at Woodstock. they werent great.
I really really want to stay at the f’n Omni now.
Is this where I yell Live from New York?

Jerry is god!
Glad Bob became a musician and not a magician.
Brown acid
Jerry brought his own (not the brown stuff)...Many said the "brown acid", was just people fracking g out because it was strong...IDK.

Give us the hotel plug but not the video, more NBC BS.
Funny to see all these CIA/CAA assets hamming it up together.
Jerry Garcia CIA??? Not even! OMG!
You should know Spooky.
Not just at Woodstock

It depends on the concert.
@@chrislastnam6822 I won't argue that. The four I went to were lackluster. I've seen way better shows in basement joints.
@@whiskeymonk4085 Their show closing day at San Francisco's Winterland is good . Some of their vinyl records are great.
You are either a fan of their improvisational style, or you are whats wrong with the world...
@@burtburt2263 Ok butthurt. Put down the bong. It's over. Jerry is Dead.

You could have stopped after “terrible”
They were terrible in general.
I never saw General. Was that a good movie?
they always sucked
