The network promised Dave he was going to be Johnny Carson's replacement on The Tonight Show when Johnny eventually retired. Then they totally reneged and gave the job to the ultra-lame Jay Leno. So Dave left the network.

Hard to believe, before he was late night, Letterman had a morning show. It was pretty much the same format as his night show, but it didn't work in the 11am time slot.

The fact is, the music the Dead played at Woodstock was EXCELLENT ! Jerry & the guys may have had an awful time, but the Dark Star and the Lovelight were all time great versions. Never trust a musician’s own assessment of their music, especially if it is biased by their personal experience.

I'm gonna say it. The Dead weren't that great. They noodled a lot on their instruments and had 5, maybe 6 good songs.
Frankly, they were boring to watch live. The parking lot had great jams, but the dust and the grime kinda ruined it.
