Hey Gio, great video and all of these were great points.
I cannot express how much I hate She-Hulk and Ant-man 3 (what's sad is that I was actually looking forward to this one).
However, I did want to mention something and you can stop me if I've missed something.
But wasn't the point of Loki showing that free will DOES exist? We find out in the finale that the "sacred' timeline really isn’t that sacred as it's just the only timeline Kang was comfortable with existinng as it wouldn't spawn any of his variants.
This means that free will does exist and from Kang's monologue, it's what caused the first multiversal war.
The main reason he enslaved the "sacred" timeline was because he didn't want that to happen again. So while yes, free will was sort of taken away, Loki also showed us that it's an innate part of the mutiverse as when Kang died, the Multiverse immediately started branching out again creating his variants.
Unless you meant it in a meta way like with the actual writers and executives at Marvel, then I guess that's a completely different story.
I don't know, that part didn't nearly bother me as much as I'm a fan of stories with a set beginning, middle and end (destiny) especially when it comes to time travel so maybe I wasn't seeing red like you were.
Also take back what you said about "What If...?" It was amazing, I will fight you on that XD
Overall, I guess I'm still sticking with the MCU for the long ride. I'm like the only optimistic fan they have so guess who's paying their bills. Phase 4 was a mess, there's no denying that but it did bring some interesting ideas I hope they flesh out going forward.
Things do seem to be looking up though as they've promised to slow down on projects and market the stories that truly matter. That and Guardians 3 was actually amazing. Will Marvel improve after all these changes? Who knows? I just don't want Superhero media to die out already and have the one successful cinematic universe be reduced to nothing but we'll see.

Hot take: I don't like stories with multiverses because they lower the stakes of everything. I can tolerate time travel if it's written well and doesn't fall apart, but multiverses just make the original plot feel less important. I instantly stopped caring about everything the Avengers built in their reality when it was confirmed there are countless multiverses of them. If one dies, there are still 9999 left.

You did a banger job on doubling down the many issues with phase 4. I'm actually shocked by several points you made like Black Widow having a family before the Avengers since I didn't even consider that as a flaw. Speaking of which, I want to mention how there's seemingly no consistent interaction between the creative teams on each project. For example, Joe and Anthony Russo previously confirmed that Hulk's arm was permanently damaged in Avengers: Endgame and that he will never be the same. But She-Hulk completely ruined that by having Jen's blood be the cure for his arm, which takes away from some of the impact Endgame left on the MCU. I probably don't even need to dive into Wanda's sudden turn to villany off-screen after Wandavision. Point is the writers of the MCU aren't even talking to each other and it could only get worse from here. The only stuff I really like from Phase 4 are What If, Hawkeye and of course, No Way Home.....Although I'm worried that I won't have fun with Hawkeye anymore with Black Widow's retcon. Either way, there's been a lot of crap coming out of Marvel these past two or three years and I'm already losing hope for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
Anyway, good video and I may now even consider signing up for your patreon!

What destroyed WandaVision was that terrible finale at the end, when Monica Rambeau basically rationalized Wanda’s actions as “self-sacrifice” when Hayward was right, she was a terrorist playing out some deluded fantasy of Leave It To Beaver and mentally tortured an entire town of people. Funny how Agatha Harkness was supposed to be evil, but if it wasn’t for her meddling, Wanda would have never let them go in the first place. I can buy her gaslighting Vision and lying to herself about the people she mind controlled being at peace, but I wish the characters around her didn’t echo that sentiment. They had an interesting precursor to the downfall of an Avenger, and it would have been really interesting to see Hawkeye’s reaction to that - even old man Steve’s…but ofc that will never happen.

For what Marvel needs to do, to quote Sam: "Do better." Unlike Sam can actually elaborate on what they can do. Like dont jump into something as big as Kang. A thought can go into Thunderbolts as like the idea of government trying to make people heroes in the spotlight like Jonathan Walker. Speaking of Marvel is Doomed could have also done Doctor Doom or Mister Sinister. Like Thanos or Kang could hint at them while building a the potential avengers. While might be odd to introduce them without their heroes could use the time to build up their characters and not kill them. Also think secret societies can work if recently formed or maybe instead of the ten rings playing major in history to the point where how has no one heard them to secret and minor roles throughout China and neighborhooding areas. You know doing the secret part of a secret society. Im sure there are other points besides mentioned in the video.

@@GIGio_Official But they haven't even started assembling the team! I mean, from Phase 1, we had the idea that the team is being assembled. We got a movie for each key player, with Nick Fury and Coulson contacting every one of them and presenting them with the idea of creating the superhero team (usually in the post-credit scene). The OG6 were always the core and heart of the whole saga. Every new character that was introduced interacted with THEM either before their solo movie (Spider-Man, Black Panther), during their solo movie (Doctor Strange's post-credit scene) or shortly after (Ant-Man in Civil War). The only exception were Guardians but they were in space, doing their own thing, so that was okay.
The Avengers fell apart after the war with Thanos, which seems believable, but since that moment there has been zero mentions of maybe reactivating the team. The only (semi) official superhero team disappears, which should be a huge deal for America, if not for the whole world, and no one seems to care. The government did try to replace Steve with Walker (which was a logical move on their part) but aside from that neither the authorities, nor the heroes themselves are interested in reactivating the Avengers or creating a new team of heroes to protect the Earth from future dangers. This issue is never mentioned by anyone. It's like those characters doesn't exist in the same universe anymore.
Edit: Well, we can guess Valentina is doing just that at the moment. But (1) we don't really know what she's doing so we can't be much excited about it, (2) she gives the impression of gathering a team of villains rather than heroes, (3) she appears so rarely that her endeavour, whatever it is, doesn't feel like something huge (and in the meantime we get tons of new and mostly boring characters we don't see the point of).

I also think that Kang/Secret Wars was the wrong follow up to the Infinity Saga. I think it should've been Phases 7-9 instead.
This Saga should've been about the world after Thanos and dealt with that. Young Avengers, Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers, X-Men and mutant oppressions, the FF. All of it about how the world is now and the new teams to take the franchise forward.
Think about it, who is even the team thats supposed to fight Kang? Iron Man's dead, Chris Evans is done withe his role, Chris Hemsworth is semi-retired due to medical issues. Is Scott going to form a new team? There is no Avengers at this point and so far no new team has been formed to replace them. The Fantastic Four isn't even coming until Phase 6 itself. So we have She-Hulk, War Machine, and Falcon Cap along with Scott and Janet? That's not going to get people rushing to the theater.
This was the perfect chance to bring in the X-Men and Fantastic Four in Phase 4 along with the other teams I mentioned and make Phase 4 and 5 about who the world will turn to for protection against the next Thanos level event and then make the final battle the Kree/Skrull War. That would be an awesome Saga ending film. A war film where the heroes have to fight the battle of New York on a global scale and realize that going forward the Avengers alone won't be enough to always save them, thus justifying the other teams.
Then you can do Secret Wars with Kang fighting Doom and introduce the Beyonders to do the story properly. And end it with a reset button to recast the original Avengers team with new actors and take the franchise further.
And this was just off the top of my head, literally almost a stream of concousness thing and I did better then Marvel/Disney did.

Phase 4 was weird to me, I got a lot of enjoyment out of Hawkeye, Falcon and the Winter Soldier (mainly through Sam and Bucky themselves, Karli freaking sucks), Loki, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, the Guardians Holiday Special, and especially No Way Home, but everything else was…it was something, WandaVision was good on the first viewing but didn’t have good payoff for the questions and is only fine on other viewings, Black Widow had Yelena and Red Guardian but it came out at the wrong time after Endgame instead of after Civil War/before Infinity War and they turned Taskmaster from possibly one of the comic’s most interesting villains into a mindless drone, What If had good episodes like the murder mystery one with Fury but then we get ones like the Zombies episode where every single thing there aside from Spider-Man (mostly, like dude, why aren’t you against killing these zombies if you all are looking for a freaking cure?!) and Bucky (why couldn’t the whole episode be like Bucky’s fight with Zombie Cap) made me wanna role my eyes so much that they’d start spinning around for all eternity because of it, Eternals is easily their worst movie in my eyes with only a few good characters (one of which they killed), a villain that doesn’t even need to be there, seriously I literally forgot Kro existed when I watched it, and it was just boring, Multiverse of Madness gave me enough enjoyment to say I thought it was good but man was it disappointing with a bunch of things, Wanda became so unlikable, and America Chavez was just a constant damsel in distress (are you freaking kidding me Raimi 🤦🏻‍♂️) and a Deus Ex Machina at the end, I haven’t seen Ms. Marvel and Werewolf by Night yet so I can’t say for those, Love and Thunder I got some enjoyment but it really made me realize that Taika’s style doesn’t fit with Thor at all especially with the end of Asgard and a godkiller (I still love Ragnarok but it got knocked down some because of this movie), She-Hulk has so many problems that it’s definitely the MCU at its worst even with Daredevil and “Yes! Wong!” (if you know, you know), and Wakanda Forever used its emotion really well but was kinda boring and I do not plan on rewatching anytime soon which is the opposite of the first movie. Thank goodness we’ve now got Guardians 3, the MCU desperately needed something great after No Way Home

To be honest, I have to agree with Mauler and EFAP on Phase four; it's actually impressive with how bad phase four was in systematically destroying everything in the MCU. And while the consoomers/ and stans will try to downplay the effects, the fact that, excluding this latest Guardians film, Marvel is delaying projects, getting in new directors and writers goes to show how cataclysmic phase for has been. For me, my breaking point was Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange is my favorite superhero so to see him butchered and such an awful movie; it felt like I was kicked in the nuts and insulted for liking him. All in all, Marvel needs a full reboot in order to wipe out Phase four. Just say Mephisto put everyone in a coma/ asleep and start from there. Phase five isn't going to save the MCU. Nothing will outside a full reboot.

I don’t agree with the tva take in which characters in the mcu still have free will in which they didn’t know at the time ab time travel and currently don’t know about the tva, so whether iron man carried that nuke or not is his decision that’s not impacted by the tva in which they only interfere when irregularities occur in the timeline that could affect the sacred timeline. The tva just know what is gonna happen and when it’s gonna happen based on their decision and they don’t interfere unless there is inconsistency with time. This also begs a question regarding philosophy about predestination. If everything in your life is predestined to happen a certain way is it free will? In which I would assume yes, because whether I slap my mom tommorw or not is still an act of free will in which no matter what my predestined outcome would be, is a merit of my own actions.

3:23-3:43, One aspect of the Black Widow film that how much Natasha runs from her past and tried to reinvent herself as a SHIELD agent and then a superhero in order to redeem herself in her own eyes. However, she ultimately accepts that no amount of good she does in the present will ever be truly enough if she doesn’t face all the pain and fear the Red Room and her fake parents caused her and the horrible things she did to escape that fear and pain. The idea in there is solid, but the execution of that idea was muddled in the film's many flaws.
4:06, And with Love And Thunder, Thor’s feeble attempts to cope with his many losses through adventure and fighting and ultimately becoming a less efficient and compassionate hero because of it is made into an obnoxious joke and Thor himself into an self-absorbed, immature moron, the kind of “god” Gorr wants exterminated. This stories only saving grace is Thor seemingly overcoming this flaw and deciding opening himself up to caring about others even if he could lose them, again, a solid idea with poor execution.
8:10, Most of these groups are so far removed from each other there’s no real points they would intersect (except, of course, the TVA) and most of the groups specifically choose to hide their existence for various reasons. Meanwhile, the Ten Rings have been around since Iron Man but otherwise kept a low profile, the Red Room was mentioned all the way back in Age of Ultron but was thought disbanded by Natasha, Namor and Talocan purposefully hide from the surface and only emerged when they felt their presence was close to being discovered due to the vibrainium detector, and the Eternals disbanded centuries ago over disagreements on how to handle humans and had chosen to live as regular civilians, only regrouping when one of their own was slain.
12:14, This aspect is actually really on point, though there is an additional issue. With the excess of content being thrown at us and the continued theme of each of these characters having to either find themselves or learn to believe in themselves, it can become a monotonous experience watching them. We have Loki learning true self esteem and taking responsibility for his own actions and flaws (something his main counterpart never had the chance to), Bucky overcoming his trauma of all the lives he ruined as the Winter Soldier, Sam establishing his worthiness to carry Steve’s mantle, John Walker’s insecurities with having to live up to a mantle he isn’t worthy of, Wanda coming to terms with her grief and her crimes (before the Darkhold shoves her right back into the depths of insanity), Kamala finding the confidence to be her own hero (even if there’s no consequence of doing so since her parents accept her without issue), Jen finding her worth outside of She-Hulk (by literally rewriting herself out of a story she doesn't like), America Chavez learning to trust her power (after Strange gives her a brief pep talk rather than any real development on her part), Shuri overcoming her grief to carry on her mother and brother’s legacies as benevolent but vigilant rulers, Kate Bishop learning that being a hero isn’t always glamorous or rewarding, Marc and Steven learning to accept each other and themselves and both Shang Chi and Natasha learning not to run from their pasts. While some of these examples do have meaningful resolutions that expand the characters beyond were they previously were, particularly Loki, Moon Knight, Sam, Bucky and John, its still the same kind of arc for each of these characters and is done better and with greater impact for some than others.
26:44, This one might actually be one of the better projects considering how different it is from anything else surrounding it, with interesting characters and a story that just has fun with its premise.

My huge problem with Phase 4 is how characters are flanderixed compared to the comic counterparts
See the Eternals, created by Jack Kirby who also created many other characters alongside Stan Lee and Joe Simon and created the New Gods, the Eternals are Marvel’s answer to the New Gods only by the fact the Eternals and Deviants are offshoots of humanity, similar to mutants or the Inhumans, in the MCU? They are fucking robots and the Deviants are generic monsters, or how about we look at Moon Knight, in the comics, Mr. Knight is also as brutal as Moon Knight, but in the MCU he is a joke.
Another major problem is them not referencing past events, like again, in the Eternals, Sersi and the others freeze the Celestial coming out of Earth, this giant ass Celestial has been sticking out like a sore thumb and you see ZERO discussion on it in-universe like why????! They just think that is normal?
In conclusion it will never happen and it’s too late but they should reboot the MCU

My biggest issue with Phase 4 was that it felt like the story was just wasting the viewers time with about 90% of the projects just being self contained stories that barely affect the world overall & the only projects that really matter are Loki, Spider-Man NWH, Doctor Strange 2 & Wandavision which are the best recieved by fans because they actually affect the world & are fun & creative with their premises.
So I am confused why instead of making more projects like this they keep trying to focus on Street level characters that have subpar abilites or on people who have no powers at all who mainly just use guns or hand to hand combat this feels like something they should have done WAY back in Phase 1 or 2 where the movies were played mostly safe & they went for a more grounded tone. Not in Phase 4 where we have firmly established things like Magic, Infinity Stones, Alien Empires & a villain that has control over time itself. So please tell me how someone like Echo or Daredevil are going to be helpful in the fight against Kang & his 1000 variants?.

In terms of the TVA's sacred timeline, that pruning concept doesn't actually exist in the main MCU timeline anymore. That whole story (so far) is just the explanation for how the multiverse happened. What if and Multiverse of Madness prove that there is no sacred timeline anymore. He who remains was trying to prevent the multiversal war, and the events of Loki season 2 destroyed the sacred timeline and made every reality valid. Even then, the MCU was never devoid of choice. The concept of the sacred timeline was simply that certain choices kept the multiverse war from happening. So technically speaking, the characters agency never changed in their timeline, they simply made choices the TVA liked, and that doesn't even matter anymore. Endgame talked aboutbthe multiverse and the TVA exists outside of time to begin with. That whole series was just an awkward origin for the multiverse and an introduction to the TVA. As sloppy as that into was, that still doesn't mean that it takes character agency away.

  • @Problemsolver434
    @Problemsolver434 Год назад +5

Just one thing. A character changing in a story is not always what a story requires. For example, in One piece. The story is about how Luffy changes the world, not how the world changes him. So he changes just a little throughout the story.
I state this specifically for Shang Chi. It's mostly about the son changing the father. And him accepting the loss. As well as telling us what kind of person Shang Chi was. Not to mention him reconciling with his family, as shown with him using the abilities of both his mother and father in the final battle. That was the point. A good introduction to him. He didn't need to change so much by the end. But there definitely was an arc. I don't want to write a whole essay though. However, the person who required the most change in the story was the villain. So in the end, he saw in his son, what he lost in his wife. Symbolised by him seeing his son use the same moves the mom used on him the first day they met

  • @noobmaster69426

The Infinity Saga was perfection. Sure there were some bumps like Thor: The Dark World, but 99% of the time, it never ceased to amaze. Avengers: Endgame even proved it with its legendary finale and its dark tone in its first half. Plus, it’s the best superhero film imo. (Enjoyed it most, as well as the fact that it used to be highest grossing until Avatar made rereleases) Endgame and the rest of the Infinity Saga is the MCU at its best.
The Multiverse Saga feels like a downgrade version of the Infinity Saga. The only good one in Phase 4 is NWH, only because of nostalgia. Phase 5 had a disappointing start with the lackluster box office bomb Ant-Man 3. GOTG 3 carried with a good conclusion, but controversial age rating. Multiverse Saga is mid at best like Hawkeye or WandaVision, and at worst, absolute dumpster fires like Ant Man 3, She Hulk, Thor 4, or Eternals. They even made stupid retcons, that even a baby can tell a story better than them.
Deadpool 3 feels like MCU’s last hope. TKD and SW seem promising, but they’re gonna have the same boring new woke characters.
    How to fix:
    - Hire better writers and directors
    - Quality over Quantity
    - Treat VFX workers better
    - Give more depth to characters
    - Don’t focus too much on representation because story still matters. If Endgame was able to succeed in it, then, they should have too. But no, so they need to do it in future
Let me know what you think

I think it was doomed the second they started replacing characters. They killed off Stark and replaced him with Iron Heatt. Retired Steve Rogers, (and eventually killed him off) and replaced him with Sam. Retired Banner and replaced him with She hulk, etc.
The original six characters are the faces of the MCU, and will continue to be in the eyes of fans forever. You cant just replace them with crappier, rushed versions. Marvel need to look at their recent successful characters with Moon Knight, Spiderman, Kang, etc. and see that adding other characters to the MCU is clearly better than lazily replacing old ones. Marvel has an entire 60-year comic franchise of characters to utilize.
