- Hey Guys, I'm back. This time with Somali steak aka bisteeki! I love this and its so easy to make the entire family will love it! Enjoy x
You'll need:
Beef steak, thinly sliced (I get mine from Somali butchers as they have the right machine to be able to cut it so thin. Otherwise ask your butcher to cut it as thin as possible. If it’s simply too thick, give it a good bash with a meat mallet or rolling pin and then add it to the milk)
Cows milk (you can replace with yoghurt, buttermilk, papaya, meat tenderising powders, there are many more Im sure!)
Steak seasoning (you can replace with taco seasoning or make it at home)
Chicken bouillon/stock powder (you can replace with vegetable seasoning I particularly vegeta)
Ras el Hanout (you can replace with ground coriander and cumin or omit all together and double the steak seasoning. I find some versions of this spice when store bought to be stronger in some flavours than others as they all slightly differ but you can make it at home. Its simply a mix of coriander, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, turmeric, paprika, nutmeg, cayenne, salt and pepper.)
For the sauce:
Fresh garlic
Fresh coriander
Soy sauce (you can replace with a liquid amino or liquid maggi or tamarind sauce/paste. If you choose to omit this simply add some salt in its place)
Veg of choice (I always use white onion, green and red pepper, tomato. Sometimes potatoes cut into chunky chips/fries)
