Its basically a regular Dell G laptop with the Alienware logo
its rounded... i guess
The New M16 desigin of the R2 feels like when you're moving on from a break up. Just hard to accept such an iconic change lol.
honestly their whole design was flawed and very anti-consumer. I think they could have kept the iconic rear exhaust but minimised it like Legions
Not worth for this money.

What is it supposed to be? 1k?🤔🙂↕️🙂↔️
@@quintonthorpe7190 yes, most laptops with rtx4070 have good display and good design only cost 1k dollars
love your review formats mate. also, the time stamps are super helpful
Watched this video from my Legion Slim 5 which I picked through your recommendations, happy to see it's still a good choice in comparison to the latest options
Picked up the r1 with a 4080, ryzen 7845hx, 32gb of ram directly from Dell foe 1699. Couldn't be happier with it honestly and that's coming from a long time desktop user
The lady from mobile-tech-reviews said that her laptops cpu went up to 100 C. Is that true for you? Also, what is your AC set at?
Oh yes, thank you a lot :)
Sick specs for the price. I am actually shocked at all you got for the price. I do like the less is more rgb as well. Nice review my friend. 👍👍
Hey Jarrod, do you have any plans to review the recently released fusion/core 15 from XMG?
The quite uncommon 16:10 15.3" screen and the performance shown by the recent notebookcheck review for a "compact" laptop seem pretty interesting!
Hey nice video! I wanted to know if it was possible to know the power draw during your battery test. You see, I don't get why identical CPU's get very different battery life results when set to their "lowest" power profile (on windows or directly on the control panel). I thought that maybe if you could show the total system power draw during this test we'd be able to (after purchase) tweak some settings to get better battery life results! Or maybe running a power draw software will impact battery life? Anyway thank you for the reviews !
Your videos helped me alot when shortlisting my laptop. I went with Predator Helios i9 39k HX with 4060 8gb got it at $ 1400 (sale).
It was an amazing buy thanks to your help :)
my 2018 alienware still chugging along without any real problems, more than i can say for other laptops ive owned
Laptops like these just make me want to build a desktop even more
can't take it with you tho
@@JarrodsTech The only downside 😔
Just buy regular laptop or Ipad and a gaming pc :)
@@JarrodsTechthat’s what mini itx builds are for. And only marginally less portable
@@josephmazor725 Except for the whole needing a monitor and keyboard thing.
Do you think there’s any chance of a review of the 2024 Asus Duo in the coming weeks/months? So curious about that double screen!
Did you tested the stealth mode as well ? But that price is unjustified ngl for 4070
Just bought the M16 R1 AMD with RTX 4060 recently....like the overall build quality but the motherboard is inverted as compared to this R2 which makes it harder to re-paste in future
yeah gonna wait on a good sale before I nab an M16R2 my 2020 Triton 300 is ready for retirement
@@Bert439I just got an open box from Best Buy today, Ultra i7, 4070 for $1,170... I went to best buy to check the condition and it looks like new... Physically no flaws... Will test it and see how it behaves.
Is the warm area at the middle of the keyboard comparable to that of the Lenovo LOQ 15 2023?
Hey Jarrod, I am in the market for a gaming laptop that I can also video edit on. I keep seeing Asus laptops being recommended, but Asus has never been good to me and they are under a lot of scrutiny right now. Would you recommend Alienware or Legion or Acer?
I have a completely different question not relates to this vedio but asking sir in the new processors the ryzen 8845hs and intrl i7 14700hx does the synthetic benchmark scores really show the difference in performance truly or is the real world performance difference between both totally different from the synthetic benchmark number differences
Can you do a review on latest dell g15 ?
Thanks for this Jarrod. Can you do MSI new Raider A14V next? Want to see it against this Alienware and the ROG SCAR 18 (2024)
Can you review HP OMEN 17 RTX 4090 as well?
Bought a x15r2 a couple yrs ago...will never make the mistake of buying Alienware again.
Lenovo LOQ, or Asus A16 if they are the same price and has 4060 card?
Also there is a Victus 16 4070, is it worth it?
Hi, can you review lLano laptop cooling pad?
I actually own this laptop and love it. I picked it up a few weeks ago for $1299 with the 4060 and the single key keyboard. The one thing that’s very hidden is the support. This model is the only one that is sold with basic support although there are other sections of the advertisement that says all alienware come with premium support. Not true.
Lenovo LOQ or Asus Tuf A15 if they are the same price and has 4060 card.
Also there is a Victus 4070 is it worth it?
what sort of sales do we get for Alienware laptops?
Hi I would like to know if I can change my ausu tuff f15 506 hf 45 watt battery to 90 w or at least something better than 45 w thanks
When you said cheapest option, I thought you meant the lowest specced one. That would've been a real showcase of their price to performance ratio.
I have a feeling, come November it will be mostly Bs, Cs and Ds for 2024.
Thanks, these videos help alot
Glad to hear it!
@@JarrodsTech do you have any good budget laptops under 400 dolllars?
everything we invest in, we should know its thorough pro's and especially its con. this is a great example of listing equal cons to the product and so very important for the consumer; also forces the brand to acknowledge and hopefully do better next time. another hobby i'm in the buyers just accept things at face value cost and don't push for better quality which is disappointing; we should always be asking for better.
Bro can you do a review on asus vivobook for creator's 16x
why wasn't the Scar 18 in the list of the games tested?
An Alienware just isn’t the same without the tail. The screen wobble is a dealbreaker for me anyway.
I was waiting for your review. Yay. I will getting this machine soon.
Maybe you didn't watch the review after all? Because there are WAY better laptops you could buy for the same price this one costs.
Bro I bought mine for $1849 + tax on Best buy Before this review. I got ripped off 🤦🏾♂️
@@GentleProdepends on where they live, this R2 is cheaper than most 4070 laptops here except the Pro 5i which I don't like because of the plastic body
where I live, the alienware is around the same price as the legion (slim) 7i, but the 7i has the i7/i9 hx processors, not the ultra 9.
What is that black ring for?
Wow, I almost picked this one up but settled on the Slim 7i (2023) 4070. Really happy about that! Didn't like the form factor of the m16 R2 (at all!) and I'm also suffering from Dell fatigue. Hello more competitively priced Lenovo whose Slim form factor I love and is a solid performer!
I'd probably get a SFF and get a surface pro/ Legion GO and thats quite similar to the Price
Hey Jarrod, I'm about to buy a couple of m16 but R1 with the Ryzen 9 7845HX and the RTX 4080... Do you recommend it??
If you're cool with the bigger power brick and inverted motherboard it's a good deal! If not wait for the R2's to go on sale.
@@Bert439 I'm ok with the brick haha it will be a desktop replacement for casual traveling! Will be in my desk plugged to my monitors, keyboard and mouse... Also I like more the AMD Ryzen 9 instead of intel Core i9! Thanks for the heads up ^_^
Non-soldered ram, easy SSD access, and replaceable Wi-Fi is a big win. But, in the end we see that there's really not much point in buying a 4070 vs a 4060. If you want to spend more, buy a 4080 laptop.
I've been seeing 7900m m18 configurations on Dell's site for around the same price...
I was able to get an ultra 7 and 4070 config of this laptop for $1100 open box. Not the best one out there but for $700 off it is definitely worth it!
Is this laptop as powerful as a pc with a rtx 4070 super?
Can you please review lenovo legion 7i (2024)
Ps: love your videos btw❤
Working on it right now :) Should be up by the end of the week (maybe a little earlier for you as a RUclips Member)
heh, I've been waiting for his review on the 7i; might go with it if he thinks it's good.
Does anyone know the max charging you can do with the thunderbolt port? I would like to leave the brick at home with my dock, and bring a smaller 90 -130 watt USB-C charger with me in the laptop bag.
Meteor lake is AWWWWWFUUUUUL, lord have mercy!
Hey Jarrod I have a doubt,
My laptop is hp i7 10gen with intel iris plus graphics and my laptop screen is 60hz ,
Now if I connect to a external 165hz monitor will the external monitor runs at 165 hz or 60 hz
It should be run at 165hz
Edit: You can check it in settings
Owner of m15 r3.
Also did you guys notice lenovo legion at the top of most charts and alienware at the bottom
Heyy can you review on the lenovo legion 7i 2024 as it come with a more professional design this year
It is a little affordable unlike the RTX 3080 model back in 2021
Next week, writing the script now.
Is it possible to charge it on USB C?
Hi, I just wanted to ask, because i didn't know what to buy. A Alienware m16 with an rtx 4080, Intel i9 13 Gen, 16GB Ram or an Lenovo legion 7i with an rtx 4070, Intel i9 14 Gen, 32 GB Ram and a 3.2K screen. Pleas help me to take a decision😅.
"Which, is just code for: you have to pay more money"

Ur product seems to be less configured one because in India the colour gametes of this model seems to be reaching abovve 100% in everything even sRGB and DCI - P3

I almost went for the m16. Glad I switched last moment to the legion 7i.
I am considering to buy the laptop, how is it and are the thermal really good this time around ? Will appreciate the response
@@shobhitkeshri8282I've had a good experience so far. Thermals are decent. But I haven't done anything to stress test it other play cyberpunk for a few hours.
I’m confused between the m16 r1 and legion 7i, both rtx 4070, core i9, 32GB RAM. If you would be so kind, please enlighten me with respect to the better choice!
The Legion is lighter and usually cheaper than the M16. Personally, I feel the build might be a bit better too from the looks of this video. But the M16 has better upgradability (more RAM slots) and better cooling (on paper). In my opinion, you should get whichever is cheaper with 32gb RAM (either pre-installed or bought separately).

$2000 for Ultra-7 with RTX 4060 that is not the cheapest laptop sorry😀
Nice t-shirt.
wait for the rtx 50 series.
Hello jarcod please help me suddenly my gaming laptops gives low fps and shutters in game and low gpu usage all of sudden can u figure it out i have updated to latest drivers nothing helps 😢
dells pricing is messed up if you select the i9 185h with 4070 and single zone keyboard its 1750 if you want the rgb keyboard its 2000 the cheapest you can get a 155h and 4070 is 1850 with rgb keyboard 1900 without
Just bought it from France
Everyone saying they would rather build a PC.. I get it.. but I travel a lot and a laptop just makes sense for me
Yeah, those people don't get it lol. Good luck taking your PC with a monitor/keyboard/power source to work or whatever.
jarrod i need an answer..i have ge75raider 9sg with full rtx2080 and i7 9750..of 2019..is m16r2 better in term of gaming performance? i know the question is a bit silly but i actually feel my laptop is still comparable
It probably depends on what you are running!! Gaming or for work like cad and such
Is the Acer 16" Predator Helios 16 - PH16-71-948L worth it? I found one for $1,799.00
- 2.2 GHz Intel Core i9 24-Core - 13900HX (13th Gen)
- 32GB DDR5 | 1TB SSD
- 16" 2560 x 1600 240 Hz IPS Display
- GeForce RTX 4080 GPU (12GB GDDR6) up to 165W Max Graphics Power
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) | Bluetooth 5.2
- microSD Card Slot
- HDMI | USB-C | USB-A
- 1080p Webcam | RGB Backlit Keyboard
- Windows 11 Home (64-Bit)
Honestly still a reasonable device. Too bad last year's models exist for cheaper and less powerful but at least it's more subtle and less bulky then the previous ones. So a fair argument I suppose 🤷🏻♂️.
Cool, no introverted motherboard!
Framework needs to lower their pricing and take market share
im able to build a pc with an rtx 4070 ti super for about 1.5k, should i go for it or get a laptop?
A PC is almost always a better option if you're not looking for portability.
if u dont need a mobile computer, then allways go for the desktop! u get much more power per $ u spend.
I started to study IT, that's the only reason i decided for a laptop.
But i still use my 2013 Alienware Aurora R4 (upgraded to 2060 and 32gb ram) for coding, daily tasks, browsing and i could game with 100fps on max settings (i play games like dota, resident evil remakes, total war warhammer, ark survival evolved).
It Depend on whether you need portable pc or not
Now I wonder how "cheap" Razer's _entry-level_ laptop would be.
Still haven't moved past a 3070Ti but want $1000 more smh.
alienware doing decent now a days
How to mitigate terrible trackpads on windows laptops: use tap to click and enable two finger tapping for right click if not enabled already. I do the same on my macbook and can't tell the difference anymore.
I love this laptop, but I got it for half off. I wouldn't pay $2000 though, you can definitely get better laptops for that price.
I don’t know who would prefer this over the Legion.
I am mad that gaming laptops are too expensive I am trying to find a latest gaming and for rendering it and the company’s want more money and the hinge are still broken way annoying.
I wish was cheeping gained laptop so I can use for collage to do something for once now it’s stupid you have to spend 1,000 and even they on sell people buy it do quickly and sold out so mad!
Can you show deals for U.K users too?
We do: gaminglaptop.deals/united-kingdom or gaminglaptopdeals.co.uk
I'll stick to my alienware m18 r1. Plays almost anything at full graphics. Playing helldivers 2 between 60-105 FPS at full native graphics
Atlast the review i needed. Asus G16 would be better.
Please compare 13700hx vs 13900hx vs 14700hx vs 14900hx
Also, my M16 R2 doesn't suffer from that screen wobble.
SCAR?
As soon i saw that wooble in screen, i closed the video.
when screen is that trash, how bad could be build quality
Man comparing the thermal system of this and the M16 R1 is so funny; they literally removed like 70% of the thermal capabilities just to make it smaller but who.. wanted it to be smaller?
Somehow the 17“ class of laptops got ditched and we get 16“ and 18“.
I am looking for a laptop and quite like the visual aspects of Alienware and Lenovo Legions but those machines have always some sort of thermal issues at those „price points“ which is a no go for me. Not only that but have lower specs in terms of CPU and GPU compared to some other options in the market.
That CPU hitting 93C whilst sustaining 50W isn't that impressive imo, last year's (thicker) Legion Pro 7i could sustain 80W in stress tests at just over 80C. Last year's Legion Slim 7i could sustain 45W on the CPU at about 80C too.
A 320 nits screen again just isn't good enough dell, they clearly don't want us to buy their gaming laptops or thinner lighter stuff like their XPS lineups. 😂
I'd say the dimmer screen is because this is Alienware's cheapest option, but then the x16 is low too, so nvm lol
Well to say, Alienware have some weird behavior too. Using both the x17r1 and r2, I see that it sustain really high temp despite the cpu load. 80 when idling, 83 at 100w, 83 when when watching yt…
Yeah I agree about the temp sustain. After some stress tests on my laptop I managed to get a 13900HX to sustain 90C at 115W but that’s more than likely as a result of the undervolt.
This laptop not being able to push 50 Watts without almost throttling can be a bit unfortunate for cpu intensive workloads but things could be tinkered with.
@@thongteevee On my MSi at least, CPU utilisation is at 100% constantly at idle. The culprit is Turbo Mode on their Dragon Center app.
You could try checking any apps that's controlling the power state of your laptop.
Typical Alienware if you ask me, personally I'll never buy an Alienware laptop, always horrible temps
You 100% are Swedish death metal banger 🤘🏼
Intel cpus are at a level of Ryzen 7 1700 - Ryzen 7 2700X. Which is a joke.
They understood it to abondon their own fabs to get a better nanometer production but they took long.
Always appreciate the Linux support❤
No problem!
it looks like it was released 10 years ago
I have been thinking whether to buy this overpriced Alienware or the Legion Pro 5. I had a great deal with Pro 5 ryzen 7745hx and 4070, which is almost 500
$ difference in my region. So please suggest me which is better,
Probably the Legion for the reasons covered at the end of the video - better touchpad, brighter screen, cheaper, etc.
@@JarrodsTech hey thank you. I have been taking a look at the 7i pro 2023 rtx 4080 variant with i9 13900hx. Should I choose the 13th gen or 14th gen? Is it a good buy when compared to predator helios 16 14900hx 4080?
13th gen and 14th gen are basically the same, 14th just has a slightly higher single core boost, it's negligible, just a rebrand really. Only difference is in the i7 HX as it adds on more E cores. I think we discussed the helios vs legion in Discord, unless that was someone else.
Legion Is almost Always better than Alienware even when more expensive.
3 minutes ago is crazy
wild.
I wanted an Alienware soo bad
Since 4-5 years
Even this time, I had to settle with an Omen 16 because this stuff is very expensive :(
the r1 is often on sale and you can make really good deals for it. But tbh: i would prefer the omen 16 over the m16 r2. Im sure ur laptop is better than the r2. And the omen looks great too! :)
@@TypeiZ yeah this is my second omen, and it's for a reason XD
It doesn't disappoint
But still man, although I'm pretty sure my omen would perform much better since it has a better chip,
Alienware just has another level of craze, just like how people like apple(I don't btw)
@@warriorsfg yeah i understand u. My desktop is an AW aurora r4 from 2013 with some small upgrade. When u get an AW product it's fascinating for some days. But u get used to it very fast and then u don't spend too much attention to it anymore.
And 1 bad thing about AW desktops:
They look really fancy (for me the aurora r4 case is the most beautiful case ever built), but the performance is crap. They can"t cool their desktop systems right and you lose tons of performance because of high teperatures in the whole system.
Or for the m16 r1 laptop: it looks so cool from the back. but when do you see ur machine from behind? NEVER!!!!
And from the front its a normal laptop with rgb keyboard :D
For laptops i would buy an alienware, but never a desktop again.
Apple: i have a 2013 13" macbook pro with linux mint for my mother. it is a beast for daily tasks :D i don"t like apple, but this device is the perfect fit for my mum xD
