I Cyber Monday'd a M18 last year with a 4800 for around $2300.00 and moved from a Lenovo because my understanding the Legion doesn't offer a 18" screen. The thermals on AW is way better than my Legion. So far I'm pretty satisfied, the other choice i was considering was a 18" Razor
The only reason why I haven't purchased an Alienware laptop in years is Dell removing the white colour scheme for their laptops on the larger laptop models. Now they lock you in to just black. I hate that concept. If you want white, you must select the smaller model (X series). If you want the larger model, you must select black (M series).
You should test the ASUS Zephyrus Dou with 4090 and 4080 because I saw in Amazon that it have problems with CPU temperatures, that stopped me from wanting to buy it!
The M18 R1 is the sensible buy here, the 4080 version pops up every now and then in my local Dell outlet and combined with a 10% to 15% discount makes it a killer deal!
The key difference between gaming laptops nowadays are the design, because everybody putting bunch of power on a device and selling them with stupid amount of money. I don't like this design. They somehow expected to make a difference by combining alienware design with the first gen HP Omen. This not retro, this is old fashion.
I also don't like the design, too smooth for m, the base looks like it could slip off of a desk with the slightest incline. I prefer the design & look of the older Alienware models, Area 51 & before, much more futuristic ergonomics to me.

I don't get the brightness complaints on desktop replacement laptops. They should nearly never be used outside so when would you ever want to use them in 'flashlight' mode? Coil whine comment will have me looking around, but will likely go for an R1 AMD model.

I think its very sad, that on the new Alienwares not even the Alienware logo under the screen lights up. Only the keyboard, startbutton and the rear of the laptop are illuminated. On the older models you had many rgb zones like speaker grills, logo, tochpad, control button bar ...
After updating my driver in Windows 11 for the 2.5G Ethernet Port on my Caldigit TS4, this pairs with my M18 R2 2024 PERFECTLY! Now I just hot swap between my Mac Mini Pro and this Alienware Behemoth when at home. When I travel, I can't think of a better gaming rig than this (at least, not without spending over $1k more)!
I'm no computer expert but did pick up a M16 R2 a few weeks ago. Haven't used it a ton but I did look into that question. Assuming you mean the GPU/Graphics card then that answer is a no. Desktops yes all day but whatever your laptop comes with is what you will have is my understanding.
Where is the most important data: thermals under load chart compared between all laptops? Who cares about battery life or speakers on a gaming laptop, thermals is the most important metric you're paying for, I want to see how it compares to other models.

Hello, I have an R18M2 with the same configuration, is it normal that I have a CPU temperature of 90 to 100 degrees when gaming, I think that's very high?
Did you say there's a simple, one-step (vs key x key) way to have keyboard keys backlit with just white light vs blinking rainbow colors? Crazy colors isn't good for Photoshop photo processing & 3D content dev. 🙂 I wouldn't want to have to re-set every key individually. Also, does the monitor support Adobe RGB (1998) vs DCI-P3 or some other video/cinema gamut? Thx!
I wonder, when will all those manufacturers stop "saving" on the quality of speakers, microphone and webcam. I really don't get it. We are talking about 4K or even 5K USD laptops here and what we are getting? Crappy speakers, crappy microphone and a crappy webcam. For 5K USD price tag ... I wish Microsoft would finally start supporting Apple M3 processor architecture, so I could get the brand new MacBook Pro leaving all these ridiculous issues behind once and for all ...
Dell is known in the gaming laptop space and even XPS space for cheaping out on parts, Lenovo laptops(using one right now) simply have better speaker and webcam(gamers like me won't care since we use headphones when gaming and we even taped over webcam when not in use), along with microphone and screen and it is more reasonably priced than Dell. But to be realistic, if you want to play demanding AAA games which will push your laptop to the absolute max(forget battery life and noise level even with MacBook Pro at that stage and just plug into the adapter), would you buy a high end headset with microphone for that purpose instead since you definitely can afford that? Cheaping out on parts still isn't an excuse at that price point though.
I forgot how much of a deal I got on my Lenovo Legion Pro 7 AMD. It's effectively a better looking 16 in laptop, with a better screen, for what's effectively the same performance, however I only have 32 gigs of ram, because I simply do not need 64 at all right now. I got it on sale for $2700 and currently have 3tb of storage in it, still for cheaper than that that Alienware.

It's literally insane that people think having all or most of the ports on the back is a NEGATIVE. Yes, I want wires and cables coming out of all directions and not a simple way to keep cables away from me and out of sight.
What's the best gaming laptop with good build quality I recently broke my Asus tut f15
Would you recommend this for recording video? Looking for one that has a lot of ram and can put at least 3 cameras on..
It seems as it would be only available to the US but could you somehow get your hands on the rx7900m model? I would really love to know how amds gpu performs(although I can’t buy it either but still).
Is that a great or excellent laptop for photos and video editing?
Hey Jarrid why you don’t make a video 4080 mobile vs rtx 3080 desktop ? Or 4090 vs 3090ti ?
I'm using one right now. I love the keyboard feel and responsiveness, and I love the form factor. But, I have had freezing issues (AMD). The mouse (wireless) and keyboard will just stop responding even though the machine keeps running. And I have issues with audio buffering too, think Max Headroom.
I've been through a few firmward updates, and hopefully this stuff gets ironed out. Because of all the gaming laptops I've had in the past 5 years (MSI, ASUS, and Razer 17 Pro), this keyboard is the only one that hasn't made me toss it in the trash.
Love the band t-shirts in almost all your video!
I'm waiting for MSI GE78HX Review...honestly can't wait for next year when I decided to upgrade
Hey Jarrod, at 4:38 is the 2nd M.2 slot on the right 2280? In the video it can be seen it's written 2230
1 2230 that hold 512gb, 2 2280 up to 4tb... according to their site depending on original spec for the R1 which idk why you wouldnt get the r1 for quite a bit cheaper and just upgrade it yourself. (4080, 4090, 7600 GPUs)
looking in to buying a laptop to replace my desktop as im constantly on the go would you reccomend waiting for 50 series or buying a 4090 laptop now ??
imo wait for the 50 to come out and buy a 5070 since it will likely have 4090 preformance... or a 4090 for cheaper.
@@smeff099no,the performance of 4090laptop is equal to performance of 4070ti desktop, it means the 4090laptop is closed to 5070, but remember, 50series graphic card can use dlss 4.0, just like 40 series graphic card can use dlss 3.0, so the difference just bigger than we predicted.😅
@YixiangWang-v2w yes, it's beneficial to wait if a new series comes iutm
hey jarrod, could you make a video on past gaming laptops and pick out some that you would still recommend in 2024?
I'm looking to buy it right now, glad you have made a video in time, heh. Thank you!
how was it?
I Cyber Monday'd a M18 last year with a 4800 for around $2300.00 and moved from a Lenovo because my understanding the Legion doesn't offer a 18" screen. The thermals on AW is way better than my Legion. So far I'm pretty satisfied, the other choice i was considering was a 18" Razor
Getting i9 + 4090 for 2300$ is a win

Do you have an Australian version of the laptop deals website? Thanks for the good content.
Not currently. We do have this post on places to buy in Australia though: jarrods.tech/where-to-buy-a-gaming-laptop-in-australia/
Ok we do now as of today: gaminglaptopdeals.com.au
@@JarrodsTech wow, thank you very much!! This is an amazing resource.
SO EXCITED! Was impatient for your review!
Hey Jarrod there is a sale going on in Alienware where we are getting x16 rtx 4070 variant at 1399 should I grab it or skip can you recommend me any other laptop or buy this
In advance thank you
I have got a budget of 1000$ for a gaming laptop ,need to buy in 1 month pls suggest a good one in sale
Something with RTX 4060 from the deals site.
MSI Cyborg..more so I've heard,for a budget
Loq, tuf , nitro 16 or nitro 17 any of those with a 4060 is good on a deal.
Consider gigabyte aorus 4060 as well.
Would you rather buy the alienware m18 r2 or the predator Helios 18 from this year, when it would be at the same price?
Nice shirt! Made me go back and listen to Twilight of the Thunder God, man it's been so long. Also nice review!
My favorite jarrod quotes
“Whether Optimus is on or off”
my PalWorld crashes on this laptop sometimes, but not on a Lenovo Legion with 3080 and some Alienware with AMD chip and 3070... I heard there are issues with 14th gen Intel and motherboard pushing with too much power... how do I set the BIOS to prevent crashes?
I don't get the brightness complaints on desktop replacement laptops.
They should nearly never be used outside so when would you ever want to use them in 'flashlight' mode?
Coil whine comment will have me looking around, but will likely go for an R1 AMD model.
Whats a good sleeve for thos unit, anyone?
quick wuestion jarrod, how do you get the full performance of your wifi router to reach those speeds
I had a first generation x17 and it’s a great laptop… I have had not one issue and it’s still in perfect shape. Mechanical keyboard is awesome and still boots in seconds. Maybe I got lucky…
Hey Jarrod, as we all know that 4050,60 and 70 dont go beyond 100-105watts, then why companies market their laptops saying that the 4050,60 or 70 fitted in their laptop is of 140watts?
Would like you to review the Acer Predator Titon 17x, there isn't really any video reviews for some reason & one review said it performs like an Rtx 4080, i read a guy who had bought it & said a bios update had rectified the performance, but im not buying for his words, its got a flipped motherboard which isnt great, but it's built like a tank, slim design & the screen is mini led & looks great......
Your work is incredible, Thank you for your coverage.
4kg is not a problem, people can get used to it. The bigger body helps in airflow, but at the price point it has a nonsense screen... I was planning on getting this but for the bad price is just went with a pc and got a 7800x3d and 4080 super for the same price as 4080 super m18 r2 in Ireland
Hey Jarrod do you recommend the 480hz spec that they offer now
I'm sorry for bothering but..
I'm buying this evening or tomorrow one gaming laptop between
the HP Omen 16 (2021) and the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16:
.Hp Omen 16 2021:
i7 11800h, 3070 maxq, 16gb ddr4, 1Tb, fhd 16:9 1080p
price: 1000€
.Acer Predator Helios Neo 16:
i9 13900hx, 4060, 16gb ddr5, 1Tb, qhd 16:10 1600p
price: 1600€
.Is Neo16 far better for gaming?
.Is Neo16 more powerful cpu really useful for gaming?
.Are 500 vs 300 nits important for a good visual experience?
.Does the Neo 16 worth spending 600€/$ more?
Please and thanks
I think its very sad, that on the new Alienwares not even the Alienware logo under the screen lights up. Only the keyboard, startbutton and the rear of the laptop are illuminated. On the older models you had many rgb zones like speaker grills, logo, tochpad, control button bar ...
I think you should test Linux support with Fedora as it has much newer drivers, and they eventually trickle down to other distros.
Love your videos man
Can you review M16R2 too??
this, but smaller
Fantastic review as usual :)
Can u please do rtx 3080 ti (laptop) vs rtx 4070(laptop)
Same confusing
@@legendarygamerx5059 I have literally seen 100+ videos but no one talked about this topic... I just wanna buy a laptop but I am so confused rn
What is better to take Lenovo slim 5 14.5’ or Dell g5 rtx 4060 8 gb both
Please review lenevo loq ryzen 7 8845hs , Rtx 4060 , 1440p display
I want to game at 1080 cause I'll be in VR anyway. Do you think this thing will throttle while gaming in VR?
I can't wait to see you review the Laptop with Snapdragon X Elite.
1 frame is excellent as someone who plays fighting games and platformers. Gaming laptops need to be this fast in general.
Genial que tengan pista de audio tus videos 👍
Try to put in faster ram there - won't work, no xmt option in bios .
Whole laptop is made from aluminum or there is a plastic here?
Jarrod, may you please review Rog Flow X13 2023 with the 4090 xg mobile?
Hey Jarrod. Great video, so can u tell me if the laptop alienware m16 or m18 can the video card be changed? I appreciate your response
Depth and Height are the same things. You should have used Length instead to measure the length of the laptop. [1:00]
People complaining about the price. Have you seen the prices of some of the MSI laptops? 4k+? 18" laptops aren't exactly cheap.
How does this compare to the M18 Ryzen 7945hx version?
I got the MSI Thin 15 15.6 with 144HZ with intel core i5 and with Ge force RTX 4050 2 weeks ago and it’s good for my first gaming laptop runs smoothly 😅
Should i get the 490 of this or the 480 of the asus scar 18 (screen brightness doesn't matter much to me)?
Hello, I have an R18M2 with the same configuration, is it normal that I have a CPU temperature of 90 to 100 degrees when gaming, I think that's very high?
😦
can u review the m16 r2 and x2? looking forward to it
It'll be out in a couple of weeks
@@JarrodsTech thank you!! Any thoughts on MSI stealth 14 ai as well? Maybe upcoming review in the future
Excellent review... Well done.
thanks
This is the most detailed review I ever seen.
Get a razer or scar 18 both have nice speakers.
Hey Jarrod, great videos and chats as always. Can I ask which soft do you use for creating these charts and graphs and what software do you use for editing ?
Wish they added the rgb in the trackpad too like the x16. Compared to the x16 this is a much better buy.
Jarrod'sTech, This made me laugh so hard, thanks for sharing!
wake me up when it's reasonably priced and hopefully updated legion time
Please make a video comparing asus tuf vs rog, i want to see diference between budged and flagship, and if flagship is worth it...same specs.
I know the cpu is different from what the reccomended specs to run unreal engine 5 as a game developer but will it still run as well with the i9?
Even though I have bought a laptop I still like to watch your videos they are entertaining
Seen that going for around $7,700 Australian dollars online.
If only they put 4 full size m.2s way better drives price wise
