Buddy was a class act. He's a legend, and will always be missed
One can only imagine the vast number I of songs he would have written & sung if he hadn't been killed at such an early age, especially when you consider the number of sings he has left us with in the EXTREMELY short time he was here. A 20th century Mozart.
I saw Buddy Holly in England in 1958. Been playing and teaching people his music ever since. His music was simple and sincere. Where can you find that now? Buddy will live forever!
Buddy Holly was way before his time......
that's a good job, Paul. Well done.
Sonny Curtis is one multi-talented fellow, bravo!
60 years since buddy left us 🙏🏻 rest easy legend 🎸 🎶 🎵
This is awesome. Thanks for the upload. Very enlightening and wonderful.
Fantastic film.
The trees start whispering when he sings specifically about Buddy Holly.
My dad told me that Buddy Holly perished in a plane crash and he was my dad's hero.
What a shame that 3 musical Giants were killed that night in 1957. They'll always be missed. R. I. P. Buddy, Ritchie,& J. D. Richardson. Aka The Big Bopper.😢
1959*
I watched this show when I was a little boy. Used to have a tape of Buddy Holly learned every doggone song on there in order. To this day when I hear certain songs I automatically sing the next song on that tape. It was the masters or something like that.
THX DAVE lol LOVE BUDDY HOLLY !
Nobody in early rock music ever named their band after Elvis Pressley,....however,
..look at the bands, or artist that were highly influenced or even named themselves after Buddy Holly in some aspect:
The Beatles(....named after the Crickets)
The Hollies (...self-explanatory)
The Rolling Stones (recorded 'Not Fade Away')
Linda Ronstadt (recorded "It's So Easy")
James Taylor ( recorded 'Everyday')
It's a shame that those today don't seem to be inspired by anyone...they all need to go back and look at the artists from the past and learn.
Well...Alright, top song!
In an interview Bo gave before he passed away...he stated that he was inspired by Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker...either way everyone from those days were inspired by someone...
muchsimas gracias long live Buddy and Viva Gary Busey {pabst and Bert's surf shop cold winters during filming of Silver Bullet} ask me lol
@MiamiIndianTribe cool
@Chimchimchu indeed, and their name, the beatles, was in fact a sort of tribute to the crickets, buddy holly's band.
When was this film made?
470470470s 1985
When I realized who I was(and I had dreams when I was a little boy of crashing in the plane), well, it messed me up. I Some may say I am lying, but this is my truth, some of my family now knows, but finding out somehow messed up my karma, my world literally flipped upside down. I don't know if I was suppose to find out, or if I went against His will. I have been playing for over 15 yrs now, i have all my music back in full force, but I am not Buddy anymore. Life is a mystery.
yes and i was born 9-27-63, buddy, 9-7 -36, 27 yrs later, he would have been 27, our numbers are totally in sinc, for example, buddy would be 76 on 9-7, i'll be 49 on 9-27, , add both the ages, what have u got............ 13. every year it is the same, plus i play all the music, just for kicks
Buddy was nothing without Bo, everyone knows that
@privettricker Yeah, sorry that comment from a year ago is up top, I corrected that a while back, and then again just a couple of days ago. And I agree he's been a good steward, since Holly's recording catalog was in utter disarray during the 60's & 70's. Smartest thing Lee Eastman did was put a bunch of Paul's money into publishing concerns. Then Paul advises Michael Jackson to invest in music rights, and what does he do? Buys a huge chunk of the Beatles catalogue. Go figure...
whats the name of the tune Sonny Curtis is playing at the beginning? and can i find it else where?
and maria was pregnent, i went on tour to make almost 1M and was going to start a recording studio in NYC, i was ripped off in my contracts and needed to go on the road, that is the truth. what a waste, what a waste. If i had lived, I would have signed EVERY band you all knew in the 60's and 70's, creating a musical paradise where the art was in control and the bands kept the money. Dylan, Bruce, all of them would have been with me. And me and the beatles, r u kidding?? we would have rocked.fini
Bet Paul wished he had just half the talent of the late great buddy }
+joetake holly Not too gracious, are you? I don't think there is a bigger Buddy fan than Paul.
there are millions of buddy fans world wide }I just happen to be one of them an a huge fan at that .I'm just not a paul fan at all .never have been never will be
I'd say Paul is more talented than Buddy, but yes, Paul got to live and Buddy's life was much too short, so who knows how Buddy could've further blossomed. But, I don't think it would've been as substantial as Paul's output over the years. It's just a fair enough guess.
joetake holly Well you not being a McCartney fan was obvious in your first biased statement. Paul wrote some great songs. To say he sucked is just funny as hell. I'm a big fan of Buddy's too but I can recognize other talented people.
So what? It's a dumb movie. It's fictionalized!
I love how Paul McCarney is just here
Video likability just increased by 100 Percent
The Beatles were influenced by 50s rockers such as Buddy, Chuck Berry, Elvis, and Little Richard.
I've had some issues with 'Sir Paul' over the decades, but..as a lifelong Buddy fanatic I've always deeply appreciated how Paul (and the other lads in THAT band) always gave major props to Buddy. Elvis may have been King..but Buddy carved out the template for every rock band that came after him--and wrote, in under 3yrs, some of the most amazing, timeless songs of all time. Still, THE greatest loss/and 'what might have been' in rock history...Happy 82nd birthday Buddy. Rave on.
Buddy said Elvis opened the door for him and others. He was playing Country and Western until he saw Elvis in '54. Waylon Jennings said Elvis changed Buddy. Elvis didn't like being called the King. Elvis made perhaps the biggest impact on R&R but the black influences as well as Country, along with all of the great contributors made R&R.
It's funny how Paul McCartney is so famous that you know it's him, even before he opens the door! His silhouette is so recognizable.
Great doc!
I just started this doc. 2020 July! I’m reading the comments and yes. As soon as he walks on screw. Just the silhouette. I thought is that Paul McCartney? Then Isaw your comment. 7 years later. Lol
I love the accuracy in this because The Buddy Holly Story (the film with Gary Busey) has many historical inaccuracies portraying Buddy Holly as this impatient violent man when he was calm and peaceful and was never violent. The Real Buddy Holly Story is precise to the point and covers his whole biography too bad his life got cut off short at the age of 22. I am only 17 but I am in love with his music. I grew up listening to his type and he was way ahead of his time being the ultimate pioneer of rock and roll. In history books they should mention him more and not Elvis, who did not write his own music but Buddy Holly who wrote, played instruments, and sung at the same time. RIP Buddy
Brandon Lewinter Buddy did write his own songs but not all of them. Oh Boy, Rave on, It doesn't matter anymore and a couple more were written by other people, but buddy recorded them. He made them into great songs where the original versions were more country and folk than rock n roll.
how about the accuracy(NOT) of Paul McCartney playing Peggy Sue and the record label says Brunswick when it was on Coral records label...McCartney know that....how could he make such a terrible mistake in the first few minutes?, sad
Just to clarify, Elvis played many instruments, and can be heard playing guitar on his early records. He just wasn’t big on playing on stage most of the time. He didn’t write music, though he did contribute to the feel of the songs and often changed them to sound significantly better. Bridge Over Troubled Water is one example. It was Paul Simon who said “How can I compete with that?” After hearing Elvis perform it. And Elvis greatly influenced Buddy Holly in inspiring him to want to be a performer. My point is, there is a reason Elvis is in the history books. No need to tear one person down to build up another. The Beatles name is due to the Crickets, yet John Lennon said “Before Elvis, there was nothing.”
Actually, if you listen to Waylon Jennings song Old Friend, which is about Buddy Holly, there's a line about his temperament. "They've been writin' books about you
And the stories that they tell
Make you look like some kind of angel
But we both know you're mean as hell."
He was a good person, very humble, caring, and loved his fans, but if he was mad he apparently got mad 😂
@@NoelG702 Im gonna love you too, Early in the morning, blue days black nights, rock around Ollie Vee, Mailman bring me no more blues, modern don Juan, and Buddy didn't write himself that'll be the day or everyday. Theres much songs that Buddy Holly didn't write.
Buddy Holly seems like a cool guy i wish i couldve met him
'Great....I know now not to watch "The Buddy Holly Story" (the original one)….👍
Buddy will Not Fade Away never ever
@hibob418 Paul acquired the Buddy Holly catalogue in 1975, not the mid-80s. So this program wasn't exactly an immediate cash-in. Paul genuinely loves Buddy's music and he's been a pretty conscientious caretaker of the publishing.
oh man, what a great documentary; i was 12 when he died and i remember the day we heard the news on our transistor radios that his plane crashed killing him, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. We were digging their music and then they were dead. hard to take when your a kid.
I've watched parts 1-10 this is easily the precursor of The Beatles Anthology. Nice job Sir Paul, I guess the only lousy thing about this is that Buddy Holly had to die as young as he did. Thanks for posting
lennon and McCartney both looked up to holly. they named their band the beatles after holly's insect associated crickets. COOL!!!! NOt Fade Away ending - really did a good job at bringing it together... film scored well at gajonka film
Then Sheperd came as the Faúl on the hill👎💕👹turn me on 👻dead man Billy shears is a protestant thieve & imposter😯😈😑 Mike Williams is a real David vincent😄👍💜
I love Buddy Holly and I searched for his greatest hits CD forever... However people my age usually don't listen to music like this.... My mother was 2 years old when he died..But I found his CD and I listen to it a lot.... It is a shame that such a wonderful voice died so young...
Being born in the early 80's I learned about Buddy Holly from my Dad. This is an amazing documentary
"Buddy´s dead now miss him, miss him, miss him !"
"Turn me on dead man !"
He accomplished more at 22 than most people ever will in their entire life. R.I.P. Buddy
Amen, he sure did.
Buddy Holly lives every time we play Rock and roll.
That would have been the very first rock and roll tragedy, I am guessing that Don McLean was just about your age and felt that same deep lose that you felt. Buddy was so young, just imagine how his music and his life would have evolved had he lived. I wonder what he would have looked and sounded like in 1969, long hair? doubt it but who knows. It's always sad to look back at such unfulfilled promise and talent unable to grow and progress. His impact even today shows his talents were large.
I have to agree with you 100% especially the last part about "if life was fair".
Thank you Paul from one class act to another . I ponder quite often what Buddy would have gone onto do if not for the tragic ending. Someday I'll get to Texas and a pic next to his statue Bless you Buddy you will never fade away
just wonder if he would not have become a record producer with his own studio and publishing co.
@@scottgh8285 No doubt in my mind he would have the great ones like Buddy and Sam Cooke understood that
I had NO IDEA this film had been made! Gold star to all involved. Thank you!
Really good.......... to correct the Buddy Holly Story Movie of 1978
Produced by Paul? SWEEEET!!
It's weird how Ed Sullivan grabs into his arm like that
I saw Paul in Raleigh N.C.in the early 90's.'row N down front. Before he began playing he announced that one of the original Crickets was in the audience.
I was in 7th grade when he died. I still remember the morning. I was a super fan. Still can play all his tunes (long as I print out the lyrics). ;>)
cool!!, can you tell me, what's that first song called?
Thank you Paul McCartney from one Buddy Holly fan to another
Oh man, huge props for this. Excellent!
For the person who says you were buddy holly in your last life we need proof you can't just say you were buddy holly and reincarnated in 1963 and don't tell details I believe in reincarnation but you must prove yourself not to be a scam artist don't say anything if you can't prove yourself not to be a liar
Thanks for posting this. 50 years later, he's still the guy we all credit for inspiring us to create. An astonishing legacy for a 22 year old kid who spent only 2 years making records!
Pure genius.
McCartney... Not McCarthly.
Comparing this to The Buddy Holly Story is a bit pointless. This is a "documentary", while the other is a "dramatization". It's apples and oranges. In a "dramatization", you cover some important points, but the main point is to be entertained, so you take a lot of creative license. With the "documentary", your purpose is actually to educate. Both have their purpose - you don't have to choose one or the other.
Buddy will never really die.
His music lives on and he will always be in the hearts of countless people.
George Vreeland Hill
just simply fantastic how that music can make you feel so good and iv been listening to it since i was 11 and now 33 and it still stands up
Buddy Holly well never die he just raves on
I have noticed on any type of older film footage, when there is a young man speaking to an older man, the respect and kindness by the younger man is uncanny. Not these days man!
Buddy and all his friends were very talented musicians...I met the Crickets in 1992.
Terrific!!! Luv that opening song by Sonny Curtis.
great movie!!
it's liverpool accent !
i love holly and mccartney, THIS IS THE BEST!!
@LightenUp McGraw....if you think about it, look at EP in '69 compared to '54 or so. listen to all shook up in 1969 OR later....now think about "Rave On" in 1969 or later, wouldn't that be somethin?. Linda Ronstadt covered "That'll Be The Day". So there's something to ponder.
Peggy Sue.
Keith Richards shows up here too, talking of Holly's influence on the Stones. Nice of Paul to invite him.
One of the Legends that we will never fully realize what might have been if we would have had the opportunity of another 30 years of buddy holly music being created.
Buddy, Was my music hero! Since I was a kid. I am 60 now. Buddy died about 1 yr and a half before I was born. His birthday and mine are 1 day apart. My mother listen too and sang Buddy's songs as I grew up. When I listen to his music. It's like I am right there with him. I understand his music and Buddy himself. Both of us being Virgo's. If I was to write music or sing. His music would be mine! People don't understand it. But I do! R.I.P Buddy, Ritchie and The Big Bopper. You punched a Big Hole in the sky. After Rock-n- Rollin THE Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. No one knew What lied ahead in that Blinding snow storm. But Jesus! Was there to take you to heaven. Rock n Roll lives on Buddy! If you could only see it now! You would be Amazed! Shawn
What at talent... love ya Crickets!!!!
Paul McCartney. Just saying.
Thank you Paul.
Thanks Buddy, your music will remain on Earth forever.

aw...buddy seems like such a sweetheart
When the guy walked through the door and sat down I thought it was Paul McCartney at first then I remembered that Paul died in 1966.
Thanks for posting, papa.
RIP Joe B .. Reunited with Buddy
Buddy Holly lives every time we play Rock and roll.
Some may be upset by the whole inaccuracy thing but maybe think of it this way. For McCartney to praise him this way is huge credit to Buddy.
Thanks SO much for posting.
What is the song called at the beginning
I remember watching this documentary and it blew my mind. It still resonates inside me today many years later. Thank you for this. This shows YT at its best.
get a life, leave the legend alone
I was 12 the day the music died...I wanted to be like Buddy..even learned to play an old 4 string guitar some...After the plane crash...I put the guitar away..forever
Buddy Holly: Too Cool!
Love how Buddy keeps saying "Well, uh..."
anyone know why he used that rock n roll heavy drums on that ed suilivant show? you cant hear it on his album.
Bo Diddley was nothing without Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy...those are just to name a few....
Watch them all!!!
@GrefOrlock IMHO Buddy Holly lives every time we play all kind of good music, not only Rock & Roll ;)
