I played that guitar before Busey bought it from Sotheby’s for $230,000 while I curated the Hard Rock Cafe collection. When I played Not Fade Away on it everyone nearby got goosebumps. It gave me the chills! I’ve played a lot of famous guitars and this one had more mojo than all the others put together.

Nobody knew about the Buddy Holly movie, and fewer people gave a shit about it, but Gary was nominated and he milked the shit out of it till he's on Arsenio unable to remember the lyrics to a basic song. At first I didn't think that Gary Busey was the best choice to play Buddy, but after seeing him in the movie I couldn't see anyone doing him better. A truly great performance. I had the same opinion when I saw Kurt Russell playing Elvis in John Carpenter's biopic, "Elvis." But I learned that if you're a good actor you can play anyone.

Very interesting.....I like his version of Buddy.....Buddy, of course, was much more 1950 square- cool, and maltshop. Gary captures the spirit of it, and adds his own twist.....I think buddy would approve.

For all the people worried about the broken string: Strings are replaced FREQUENTLY on a guitar. The older they are the worse they sound. So no big deal breaking one. I guarantee those are not the strings that were on the guitar when Holly was plunkin' on it.

I was in grade school when I saw him in The Buddy Holly Story. That was 45 years ago but I still vividly recall the roller rink scene and Ollie Vie. They say he insisted on doing the music live, and it's very clear from what we see here, that he had the chops to do it.
