    Two friends and I were trying desperately to go to that show. We had a car and driver (older kid) ready to go but the storm was coming and the parents ultimately said no. We spent the evening listening to 45’s and wishing we were in the live audience. The next day we awoke to the utterly devastating news of the plane crash. I never went to another sleepover or tried to attend another show for years. What a loss to music, to folks, his friends and Miss Maria. Heaven’s got a helluva band with him in it.

      It was very hard for my mom. It was very heartbreaking. She absolutely didn’t want to go. People made her go because they wanted her to have closure which didn’t happen.
      I didn’t go to my wife’s funeral either because of distance. We were estranged though.

    I was born and raised in west Texas. I was born in 1950, (always felt cheated because I was born a decade too late.) However, I had a brother 12 years older than me. Roy Orbison lived 7 miles from us. We lived in Kermit, Texas, and Roy lived in Wink. My brother listened to Roy, Buddy Holly, and of course Elvis constantly. Buddy lived in Lubbock, about 140 miles from Kermit. Fortunately, I was a teenager when Larry Gatlin (Odessa, Texas, came along). Odessa is 40 miles from Kermit. So, I grew up listening to these guys, but was jealous of my brother who went to all of Roy Orbison's local dances.

    • @marlareid883
      @marlareid883 21 день назад +2

      Larry Gatlin has the biggest ego in country music that I have ever seen. Arrogant. I don't know how his brothers feel about him being the lead name with their surname. I would be embarrassed. I have been backstage at the Opry and or Ryman Auditorium (mostly Opry House) a few times and he absolutely is shockingly not a nice person at all. I mean, I guess I could have caught him having a bad day each time I have seen it, but I think the odds are low.

    I worked with one of Maria's 3 children. He told a story about Gary Busey coming to their house one day to buy one of Buddy' guitars for a hefty price. He himself used to fool around with said guitar from time to time as it was kept in a closet in the house.

    I think this video sheds light onto the personality of Maria Elena. She was obviously somewhat dysfunctional. Clearly the timing of his death and vulnerability affected her life’s decisions. Had Buddy not been famous, she would have moved on in life. Also, she has no right to sue Peggy Sue, as it was her own life and experiences with Buddy Holly that she wrote about. It’s just greed on Elena’s part.

Referenced in the lyrics as “the day the music died,” McLean's 1971 song was paying homage to Feb. 3, 1959-the day pop music idols Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson, Jr.

    If Buddy Holly had lived longer and had maintained his creativity, I reckon he would have collaborated with The Beatles at some stage. Holly would have written a few songs for them or with them. Also, The Fab Four would still have become influenced by Buddy Holly and he would have respected their music, at least

To me that was just cold. and after that, she married, and then came back to the life before by celebrating her husband legacies how does that make sense? You never even went to his grave you could have never loved that man. And I believe that is dead was a set up. It is as clear as day. don’t be surprised if she knows about it. People will do anything for money if you could harden your heart not to go to his funeral not even to his grade site that says a lot to me.
