While that’s a noble sentiment, converting office space to apartments is not easy nor cheap. They have to sell the property that’s usually built to a very different spec to a willing purchaser that wants to convert it to apartments.
@ Just add plumbing, walls/doors, and windows and it can be used to house people. As far as selling it, sure, then it can actually bring some revenue in for the federal government. (1) "Forcing federal employees back to work" is the most common sense, easiest thing to do. Just send out a Notice stating "report for work or be fired; your choice". Done. (2) Also, "Forcing federal employees back to work" will strengthen the economy by increasing commercial property values (which the soundness of our Banks depends upon) and boosting business for nearby restaurants, vendors, etc.
Sell off some of the Federal buildings, working from home allows for high focus versus being cubicles with everyone speaking to citizens requesting information then can not hear the person speaking over all the background noise. If someone is failing to work then reprimands are appropriate with continued monitoring.

That is the ONLY reason they are doing this! Our supervisors all admitted it. Mayors are pressuring the federal government bc the lunch diners, coffee shops, dry cleaners, massage parlors are suffering from telework!
The waste in the government employee system is unfathomable. Everything from people on payroll who nobody's ever seen or heard of to people on 5-10yr paid medical leave for papercuts To people who file a complaint every time they're asked to do a assignment so they haven't been asked to do anything for years. The only upside to working at home is the reduction to traffic and pollution. As a former federal employee, I always preferred to go into the office (mingling of ideas, etc). But more and more people started working at home long before COVID. Note that we had a job that could easily be done at home (programming). But I found that human interaction a worthwhile endeavor.
I had to call the VA the other day to help me with a form I had to fill out for my disability. Bit of framing bias here. More than 60 of federal employees nationwide work in the office full time. Less than 10% are fully remote. They don't talk here about the revenues gained by leasing space to contractors and state/local agencies. This is also part of the story. Most private companies have pushed for selling offices and have employees work from home to disburden themselves of office costs, which offset by a significant margin the presumed marginal losses in productivity. The truth is, the studies on the relative productivity of work-at-home vs. work-at-office are mixed at best when you look at the management literature and the Harvard Business Review.
It's so depressing for Americans that the entire country became an ultra-liberal ideological experiment so unsuccessful and destructive to itself. Accomplishing the complete opposite of what it was trying to achieve. Equality.

😂😂😂😂😂
The ARE working so your statement makes no sense.
It's a matter of from where they are actually DOING the work!
Which, in todays day and age, shouldn't make a difference as long as the work is getting done!
Federal employees have so much protection. Educate yourself before you speak.
And people wonder why they are talking about H1Bs
No it’s not hard, you’re fired!
That isn’t how it works nice try we have been working but I know you hate veterans
STOP THEIR PAY IF THEY DONT COME BACK TO THE OFFICE ...
You clearly don't understand how a contract or a union works.
And you clearly dont understand that they will be fired on day 1 if they dont@@The_Algorithm_
It doesn't matter what chair someone is sitting in, what matters is if they are getting their job done or not.
@@Gabor-jn9zc That is the correct answer. People get so hung up on "You aren't working if you're not in an office".
@@The_Algorithm_Why are unelected people deciding how to spend taxpayer money?
I literally do not care how Trump does it. Use his immunity doctrine to force them if he has to, screw their contract if I’m being completely serious. It’s void now. ITS TIME TO COME TO THE OFFICE FOLKS! WELCOME TO REAL LIFE!
Amen!
That's not how contracts work.
@ He’s the president, he’d be acting in his official duties to void the contract. Done. Back to work kids.
If the work gets done without paying billions of tax dollars in lease and rental fees then shut down the office save the American people the money. It's absolute buffoonery to try to "punish" workers by spending more unnecessary tax dollars because some rich people want something to tweet about.
James Comer, sir you’re full of BS! If government employees can do their job remotely, then they should. It’s up to managers to make sure remote employees are being productive. Furthermore, I agree 💯 that consolidation of government buildings would be a huge benefit for the government.
workers that dont produce anything arent actually workers. they like to throw that term around just because someone is getting a paycheck doesnt mean they are a "worker".
They report to work now. They just aren't reporting to an office. It's a waste for the government to keep these buildings and leases.
These same banks are buying up all the residential properties which isn't strengthening anything about the economy.
There is also not enough desks for all the workers when they do come back
Is the problem is someone is spending money on underutilized real estate the solution is to shrink real estate footprint.
Yeah, a headline saying that you eliminated 200,000 jobs that were not missing when people are gone that sounds like a headline I like
They shouldnt get paid unless they are at work not sitting at home
What if one is sitting at home working 8 hours? Conversely, I know people who would sit in an office and be completely unproductive.
Sitting at home is one thing, working from home is entirely different
Sell off some of the Federal buildings, working from home allows for high focus versus being cubicles with everyone speaking to citizens requesting information then can not hear the person speaking over all the background noise. If someone is failing to work then reprimands are appropriate with continued monitoring.
They don’t want to go back to work? Then have them install a camera on their computer to prove they are sitting at their desk for 8 hrs a day. They’ll quit. 😂
You like control don't you? If you're a boss, I guarantee your employees are stealing from you and gently sabotaging things on purpose. Nobody can stand working for people like you, even for those who love the tasks or topic of the organization.
@StephaneVorstellung It's about accountability, not control.
@@striver1987 accountability is great and now employers need to pay up. Hard to survive and feel like a human under 100K a year. Even here in Phoenix average mortgage is now 3K a month.
@@striver1987 Accountability? Is that what they told you it was? Did they tell you that before or after you finished sniffing their seat cushions? When you make an effort to value people and back it up with trust and treating them well, employees WANT to do well.
Reporter is wrong they already said that they will get unemployment as well as a severance package but not in a way where they can just stay home it will be spread out well over time where they will have to get a job.
As a former worker I cannot see how persons with Security clearances be working from home. How do they get access to the secure info, jackets etc. ? I much preferred leaving all that stuff at the Office and not bringing it home.
U cannot see because u are willfully blind. I work for govt. We have govt laptops, phones, etc super secure for those that aren't blind
Bring on doge! Musk is waiting
@@guillermollamas7899 I guess we worked different levels of security.

You’re going to lose a lot of the federal workforce including the young people that work for the federal government. Micromanaging is a big issue and none of us want to experience that ever again.
Shortage of housing, consolidate the space for housing use. Help people who couldn’t afford current housing right bow!!!! Why fill it back up, spend more capital on monitors, and stupid office expenses??? You’ll still have to pay light bills and much more since people coming back will need more electricity to keep up and work. So so stupid
Save money on the rent, save money on the cost of workplace safety incidents, workplace injuries, sickness, building upkeep and supplies! It is simple! We have a union contract stronger than any new policy 😂😂😂😂😂
Bringing workers back into the office is also good for the surrounding businesses that rely on daily foot traffic to survive.
That is the ONLY reason they are doing this! Our supervisors all admitted it. Mayors are pressuring the federal government bc the lunch diners, coffee shops, dry cleaners, massage parlors are suffering from telework!
The waste in the government employee system is unfathomable.
Everything from people on payroll who nobody's ever seen or heard of to people on 5-10yr paid medical leave for papercuts
To people who file a complaint every time they're asked to do a assignment so they haven't been asked to do anything for years. Take however bad you think it is then multiply it by 1000.
Well, then let them go find a job somewhere else that’s a cakewalk
Then they lose their jobs. Everyone else has to go back to work.
I find a lot of distraction at the office. I can be much more productive at home.
I had to call the VA the other day to help me with a form I had to fill out for my disability. The lady on the other end of the phone was super nice and very helpful and I could hear a child playing and talking in the background. I thought it was kind of cute and it didn’t bother me, as within a week., I had the proper forms I needed I would say under some circumstances working at home should be allowed and in others. It should be necessary for them to be in an office. If it can be proven through any means as to check their work. efficiency and output through surveys at the end of each client involvement.
Congress has no problem spending money that isn't theirs, which is why we need a DOGE. Government workers are not frontline workers, they are thieves of my hard earned tax dollars. Why do I have to go into the office so my taxes go to pay them to stay home and then pay even more taxes to "keep the lights on"?!?
You have no clue yes CBP is frontline workers federally and yes we telework and yes we also go in and yes we also pay rent for offices
Who is the government leasing the propertys from, themselves?
Shut the buildings down
It's costing taxpayers' dollars billions. Don't be mad someone can work from home. I get more work done at home than 20 ppl interrupting me at work.
Too difficult. Too fkn bad
He who pays the workers, makes the rules !!
the rent, car insurance, health insurance and food prices, and trying to show up to work, it's just not what the human body is capable of doing, not to mention the mental state to keep up with our broken feelings...
It would cost less for mfs to work from home
What's costing money is the building leases and maintenance of those buildings
Mfs in the comments with a letter for a pfp swear that forcing office workers back to the office is worth anyone's effort or time (the expensive office building is still being leased and maintained either way)
The only difference is that people have to waste gas money and clog the freeways to achieve the same result
actual boomers who don't know how computers or computer security work
People can be so naive. Federal telework improves efficiency. And most federal employees do not work from home.
Start with the members of Congress. They already ready work part time annually for a full time salary.
Rep. Granger was M.I.A. for six months and found in a memory care nursing home. Still got paid.
I mean I would like to stay home and get paid as well but I get up 5 days+ a week to make a living. Get back to work like the rest of us smh.
While millions are pouring sweat and breaking their backs. Literally.
Gee, I feel really bad for someone who has to show up. It’s just not fair ! Darn it !
They can work from home if they reimburse the government for their office space and desk that are going to waste.
All he has to do is get ride of the jobs they have. Your jobs is faze out. No one cares about government employees family go to work and u will have a job. U are the government fire them all.
They are already working Opie. They are being as to return to the office. Gov't employees families are just as important as your family. You sound like you live in your mother's basement, reeking of disappointment...
@ I wish I did still live with my parents that would be great, all I can say is I feel sorry for u, and I hope your life gets better. I will pray for u tonight, don’t know your name but can throw a prayer for u. Anything helps I would imagine.
@@billmiller2081 you sound uneducated.
Not if you delete their positions, if want the way around that, just get rid of the position or redefine its job description to janitor. If theres no job then the comtract and employee has no recourse, the law doesmt guarantee you are mandated a job.
Its not really difficult, many people want a job, they will surely replaced if they hard headed to get back to office
Equality.
Yes, front of the line at the unemployment office.
Easy cut their remote access.
3:50, If those hundreds of thousands of workers are not needed. then yes lay them off.
Lay off all the federal workers so elon doesn't have to pay taxes.
They need to be at work or find a different job elsewhere.
Talking head: "taxpayers should be mad that government workers are working from home"
Me: "Shouldn't taxpayers be mad that the government is giving $5,000,000,000 a year to a private firm that owns the buildings?"
He said "that's going to be a lot harder said than done" ??? (confusing) isn't that supposed to be "a lot easier said than done" ?? Script writers just ain't what they used to be!!
I’ll bet half of them get a free pay check. No accountability.
The president has a right to downsize the government! And that's exactly what he is going to do the government is too big and we can't afford it simple as that
Government workers are Frontline workers! What does that supposed to mean when you call someone in the government service they’re talking to you with curlers in their hair and slippers on from their breakfast table.
whenever yall done making racism illegal make badmind illegal
Federal employees will still show up to work in pajamas
A large percentage of government employees can be terminated in the public will not notice anything but the money we save. Starting with EPA Caltrans, IRS government teachers union. Just to name a few.
To Federal workers wither you have a family or not, if your not doing your job or your job is no longer required then I am a tax payer YOU ARE GONE,
there was a recent report done that says over 50 million dollars is owed by IRS workers who have no payment plan in place, Also there was an other report recently that says Remote federal workers are working from home and running a small business at the same time. Now as a Federal Tax Payer do you think this is right. When you a hard American worker going to work each day paying the salaries of these Federal workers operating small businesses at the same time they are working for the Federal Government. What do you think. ??? Thanks
We pay federal income taxes, too, Einstein!
Lot of this is laziness..its not fair either others have to go to work there is no choice
we cannot drive to work with out gas money, car insurance and registration and other fees... plus whatever we need to keep us alive while we work... once we fall it takes a alot more $$$ to get back up,, it takes years occasionally month if we are good looking or healthy...
I am tired of trying to make appointments with county, state and federal offices, with no one working. A phone discussion is not the same. I want to look that person in the eye.
They can as well monitor the computers and when idle not there working that’s thief of service your terminated.
Exactly!
Not really they will just email you report to the office or your terminated. Also you can be relocated across the country. This is federal they can transfer you anywhere.
Yes go to the office no more easy easy
1:25 I promise it's not "going to ba a lot harder said than done" actually.
Federal Friday.
Work or pink slip
Lets ttalk about this RTO crap recommend by Elon and Vivek. Why should my tax dollars increase to purchase buildings to house these people, pay for utilities, water, maintenance etc. This is not a help to the taxpayers but to help billionaires collect big money for rent. This is no win for us. Its bs
Who voted for Trump to find out that now you have to go to office and can’t work from home? LOL😂
Hopes is tru they gone come back to works at the office
Bring in doge! Musk will solve this problem fast! Musk had the same problem at Tesla with remote workers! Musk laid them off 😂😂😂
Closure
What a total fallacy maybe the days before computers but I am far more productive at home and all my clients are international it makes absolutely no sense for me to drive in to call someone out of country or email them. Our entire job is email and online intranet-based programs it doesn't matter where you are in the world. This one size fits all approach is going to cause mass layoffs and endanger the American public for safety related agencies. The blind spot of DOGE is going to result in safety of Americans being jeopardized as the force decreases. But go tell a bunch of business people that lives are more important than dollars. The answer is not to bring everyone back to the office, which is the new norm, The answers to sell the stupid buildings that no one uses and no one needs. When I was hired there was talk about selling our building because no one used it and still don't. I agree, those buildings are a waste of money and function!
Simple solution. Office or unemployment.
Hate crime. Cause I want to work at home too.
I got a better idea, lets just hire people from India that'll work remotely for a fraction of American workers. Think of the savings.🤣🤣🤣
Government employees, whether state or federal tend to vote for Democrat candidates......Everyone knows this.
Give. Me. A. Break. GO TO WORK.
Get to work or find another job. McDonald's is always hiring.
When I became a civil servant, I was told the purpose of usa is to provide jobs to people that like to sleep at their desks...and they can't be fired for anything.
Hell yeah they should go back to the office people that's how it's done
Beginning to thing this is a Democrat news network
It would NOT be hard to fire feral employees. Reagon did it back in the early '80's with flight controllers, he just old them they were fired if they didn't get back to work. They didn't, they were fired and new ones hired. Too bad so sad. Most of these feral zombies don't do anything anyway.
Great then just fire them and give us back our taxes. I think we can do better without them at this point
