On Nov.6, I was a desperate Italian. Today, I'm 2 weeks away from grabbing the popcorn and enjoying the shitshow that America is going to be for the next 4 years.
Here's why it'll be hard to pass anything: - 219 to 215 Republican majority in the House. GOP can only afford to lose 1 vote out of 219 members to pass anything - 53 - 47 Republican majority in the Senate. Two of which are Collins/Murkowski who tended to break with the GOP on controversial issues. And for most (not all) legislation, it takes 60 votes to pass anything The other large problem is that the GOP won't compromise on anything. They'll act like they have huge majorities in both chambers of Congress, when in reality, they don't. When proposed partisan legislation doesn't pass, they'll blame the 215 Democrats for voting against a bill that they had no say in crafting. When in reality, if they moderated even the tiniest bit, they'd have few issues passing legislation in the House. However, this time around Trump knows a little more about how Congress works. If he's smart, he'll allow the GOP majority leaders in both chambers to set up this "mega-bill" to get everything he wants as a budget reconciliation bill that will allow it to pass in the Senate with a simple majority. Of course, it'll be taking precedent and throwing it out the window when it includes non-budgetary items.

If the opposite of "pro" is "con," does that mean the opposite of "progress" is "Congress?" Someone remind me, what were Madison's thoughts on factions?
Unfortunately, pro is not the opposite of con. "Con-" as in congress, convention, or consequence, is a prefix form of the Latin "cum," which means "together (with)". In this sense it is used in congress: "-gress" being the participle of the latin "gradi" (to walk), "con-" meaning together; congress refers to a group of people who came together. "Pro" means both for and forward; its opposites are thus "contra" (against) and "re-" or "retro" (back or again).
The Progressive Era. Theodore Roosevelt and his Republican trifecta got LOADS done, including the Pure Food and Drug Act and other important regulations. Additionally, Theodore Roosevelt's government very publicly forced the breakup of multiple monopolies under the Sherman Antitrust Act. His successor Taft was also quite successful in its trust-busting endeavors, breaking up Standard Oil for its monopolistic practices. Of course, the Republicans were a very different party in the 1900s compared to now, so this example is somewhat moot.
I wish my entire congress was able to work together and vote accordingly to further the interests of the American people. But they refuse to get on board for things and can’t meet halfway. That is not good for America.

Here's why it'll be hard to pass anything:
- 219 to 215 Republican majority in the House. GOP can only afford to lose 1 vote out of 219 members to pass anything
- 53 - 47 Republican majority in the Senate. Two of which are Collins/Murkowski who tended to break with the GOP on controversial issues. And for most (not all) legislation, it takes 60 votes to pass anything
The other large problem is that the GOP won't compromise on anything.
You know, we're going to do fantastic things, many fantastic things, so fantastic, so fantastic, it's gonna be fantastic, you won't believe how fantastic things will be, things will be so fantastic that you won't believe how fantastic things will get, believe me, believe me. Feel the need to point out that he don't need Congress approval to impose tariffs
Technically he does. Tariff power is Congress's prerogative they simply let Prez do it for them but if he does it too much the Supreme Court will likely get involved. Congress can only delegate so much.
I'm not sure if that's true, but trump might not impose all the tariffs he proposed because they might just be barging chips. Biden also kept some tariffs from Trump's previous term

We need a "one subject, one bill" rule in Congress and the Senate.
This sounds like a good idea, but bills are very complicated and even a simple law has many many caveats and definitions that need to be defined and this and that and then all of a sudden it becomes a much more difficult bill to pass. An omnibus bill exists also because congress takes FOREVER to have bills pass, and so if you can get a lot done at once, it makes congress more efficient funny enough.

@@pedrorequio5515 Because like I said, bills are hard to pass and Congress is highly dysfunctional. They can barely do anything in a single day, let alone do 50 things. That's why these big bills exist, is because in order to get anything done, you need as much done as possible at once.

Joe Manchin has never been a Democrat and the best thing ever happened to West Virginia is when he retired
Joe Manchin's retirement is still a loss for the efforts of senate democrats. He was replaced by a Trump-backed republican (Jim Justice) who signed into law an abortion ban with very limited exceptions as governor of West Virginia.
If the opposite of "pro" is "con," does that mean the opposite of "progress" is "Congress?"
Someone remind me, what were Madison's thoughts on factions?
Unfortunately, pro is not the opposite of con. "Con-" as in congress, convention, or consequence, is a prefix form of the Latin "cum," which means "together (with)". In this sense it is used in congress: "-gress" being the participle of the latin "gradi" (to walk), "con-" meaning together; congress refers to a group of people who came together. "Pro" means both for and forward; its opposites are thus "contra" (against) and "re-" or "retro" (back or again).

Name one instance when Democrats governed with a Trifecta and didn’t screw over the country
