    Fantastic video!! We had the super champ as a kid but we ran the rough rider body on it. This one is discontinued and a local hobby shop has one. It's alot of money for a kit but I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger. A piece of childhood history brought back.

    Cool video, the Rough Rider was my first "real" hobby grade RC vehicle other than a pan car.... Got a reissue after kicking myself for selling my original. Upgrading to the ball diff when it gets released 03/2021. The E-bay prices are a bit steep.....

    What a fantastic video!
    It's even better than the very first Tamiya promo video back in the late 70's that made me make my parents buy me one. And I've still got it!

    Hi Matteo
    Great vintage R/C buggies as usual.
    Really enjoyed seeing this and the Holiday Buggy video.
    Not sure, but the Champ looks like it has the same suspension as the Sand Blaster. I really love the Sand Blaster's front axel assembly, it's almost an exact scale copy of a real VW front end.

    Yeah mate..your fighting buggy vid inspired me to get a fighting buggy..but i didnt buy any radio gear for it so i bought a grass hopper kit on a cheap deal mainly to use the radio gear on the fighting buggy.. but ended up building the grass hopper and using the radio gear on that..its also a cheap but cool tamiya. So here goes iam now gonna build the other 2 bad boys. Keep up your videos they are fantastic..tamiya should be paying you for cool advertising.

    I've watched all your films with all your SRB buggies and loved them all. I especially like the Buggy Champ in action running through the stream, really cool. In my opinion it's the closest film out there that's in keeping with the original Tamiya promotional film for the SRB buggies. I'm old enough to remember watching them in my local Beatties RC shop as a young teenager in the 1980's. I was lucky enough to receive a Sand scorcher Xmas 1983 ish. I wish I still had that car but alas not. All my SRB's are re re kits but loved just the same. When you ran the Buggy Champ through the water it was completely immersed. Did you carry out some extra waterproofing or run it stock? When I built mine I tried to incorporate some waterproof modifications. Using silicone to seal the gear case and to fill the gaps in the motor cover for example. What products are best for this type of procedure? I would be grateful for any hints or tips you may have. If not no worries and keep on filming. Cheers

    Hi Matteo. I have now bought myself a few nice buggies (Sand Scorcher with an extra Buggy Champ body +shorter front post), the Fighting Buggy, and a vintage NIB Holiday Buggy, and some additional parts). My consern now is what radio system I should use for my cars. I am thinking that I want one transmitter with several recievers of the same type, to be able to run all my cars with one and the same transmitter. What transmitter would you recommend? What is your favourite? Thanks for any advice.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 лет назад

      I see your collection growing... :-) I use a Futaba 4PL, with many receivers for my cars. Check the price of the spare receivers. Important if you need a lot...

      I’m using a Traxxas Bluetooth transmitter and Traxxas receivers which are compatible with the new transmitter in my Tamiya kits since I already own a few Traxxas vehicles as well. Traxxas radio systems are decently-priced on eBay and I like the newest Bluetooth versions because I can easily make adjustments and reverse servos if necessary right on my iPhone screen using the TraxxasLink app. I also use Traxxas servos since they’re also fairly cheap on eBay by sellers who part out new kits. Other people complain about Traxxas servos but I’ve never had any issues with them. But then again-I don’t mercilessly beat my RC vehicles to death like those complainers do to their cars.

      @@gregoryguza4623 The Traxxas Tqi is not nice to hold. The absima CR3P is much better and cheaper

    Also, Matteo, I watch many of your films now, and your buggies look so well balanced and well built. Would you perhaps have some deeper info to add about any tweaks and adjustment tricks, or anything about special parts, or how you fine-tune the shocks, please? Your videos bring the best out of Tamiya, your method of filming and driving focuses on the true essence of off-road. I wish you would film it all in 60fps.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 лет назад

      With the older cars I've done not so much modifications. Mainly they are stock. My new films are all in 60 fps, before in my old videos I had not the camera equipment to do this.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 лет назад

      I have nothing upgraded in my SRB chassis cars. I like it without differential, much more traction on loose ground. And I do not use it on hard surfaces.

    I understand that this chassi has a well protected battery and servo compartment, but is everything else tight? When you drive into water like that, did you seal off the motor compartment and gearbox with silicone or something?

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 лет назад

      I do seal the electronic components itself. It's very difficult to seal the complete electronic box, with all the holes and moveable parts (steering). Later this day I will upload a video how to seal the esc and receiver.
      I do nothing with motor and gearbox, this parts are not so sensitive against water.

  • @psc777
    @psc777 8 лет назад

    First off, Fantastic video!!
    How would you rate the build difficulty?
    I just put one together, well, almost done. My son never built it and
    it sat for over 10 years unopened!! Gift from his grandpa.
    I do not like how the steering servos are just held in by double sided
    tape! I did not stick mine in there yet, searching to see what others
    may have done differently maybe. Also, disappointed in the shop that
    sold my dad everything, the 7 cell battery is NOT going to fit, and he
    bought 2. I will have to make a trip for something that works.
    This is not really meant for a younger kid I can tell you that. I had a
    Fox over 20 years ago and it seems it was built way better, and the battery was
    easily swapped out quickly, I cant see that it being a quick swap on this one. Big
    disappointment over all with this model.
    I am strongly debating selling it before I run it. What do you think it would be worth? Less the steering servo, I would keep that as it came with my controller of course.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  8 лет назад +1

      This model is a very old, it was released by Tamiya in the first time of RC off-roading. It was in 1979. So, this explains some of the negative matters you mentioned. It's something like a old-timer of rc cars. On the rerelease they improved some points but mainly still the same car.

  • @uncletom1971

    I love this car. Can this chassi be used with the Sand Scorcher's body?
    I'm looking at your videos and it is very difficult for me now *not* to buy an RC buggy. My interest aims towards this byggy, the sand scorcher, or the fighting buggy.

    • @Matteomeier
      @Matteomeier  7 лет назад +1

      The Sand Scorcher and Buggy Champ have exactly the same chassis. The fighting buggy is slightly different (chassis plate, and rear suspension). But you have to know, this cars are more than 30 years old. The performance is not the same as actual rc cars have, but in my opinion they have much more charme.

    • @uncletom1971
      @uncletom1971 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks. I am thinking about buying the Sand Scorcher, and then buy the additional parts, with bodies for the Fighting Buggy and Buggy Champ. That is if it's possible to fairly quickly swap bodies. Otherwise I just cannot decide what car to buy, they all look so awesome it makes me crazy.
      Regarding performance. It isn't important at all. These vehicles already drive much faster in proportion to the size, that no real size buggy will ever beat it. What is importan to me would be the time of battery. I'd rather use a less powerful motor with a higher specified battery.

      Nein, eigentlich nicht. Ist natürlich ein Oldtimer, die Technik ist wie vor 35 Jahren (ausgenommen die Elektronik natürlich) man muss sich einfach bewusst sein das das Auto mit modernen Cars nicht mithalten kann. Aber das macht meiner Meinung gerade den Charm daran!
