  • Building the transition molding on the dome's perimeter from stock casing. Inside will hide recessed lighting.

    Don: Thanks again for the answer. This will be for myself, so the pressure of getting it done quick will not be a factor. I’m an artist / muralist and have worked on high ceilings and walls. This will be the first dome that I will personally do, both build and paint.

      +kbaxter777 I would love to see your project when you finish, please post it. my next dome I will steam bend the arches--- I think it will be much easier and faster, we shall see, Don

    Great job. What is the diameter and rise of the dome?

      +kbaxter777 The dome is 7 feet in dia. and 2 foot rise with a parabolic arch. Thanks for your comment my friend! Don

    Thanks for the quick reply. I had one other thought after I sent the last reply to you. Being that the triangular drywall pieces are like 12 pie sections, is the flatness noticeable at all? I understand the curves from base to point is wet and conforms well, but the facet effect looking upwards is what concerns me. I’m going to place a 12’ X 18” within a dropped ceiling (someday).

      +kbaxter777 not noticeable at all--- use a flexible trowel when applying the compound and fill the seams in to make the curve. When you get closer to the center it is almost flat there anyway. This is an enjoyable project if you are not on a time line. Enjoy it my friend. Don
