Awesome team. I read the comments about safety... it's TRUE... I can't hand some safety protection but since they do a excellent job , you need to take care of them if they don't feel comfortable force them and explain all risky situations. Better safe than sorry. Am impressed with their ability and great work. I would love to have you for my house when am ready.
that is so cool. I was looking at a house built inside a old grain silo and thought someday that would be fun, but had no idea how you would sheetrock a round wall. Doesn't look that bad.
I'm fascinated to see the work of you, also working with drywall here in Brazil, but here everything is very expensive, a drywall lift paid $ 1,000, $ 200 banjo and an end to the base $ 25 m2 of liner installation.
I'm a drywall contractor in Miami, Florida and I do all domes with paperback wire lath and always will be more easy and fast and dor the finishing we apply one cote of veneer plaster and 2 or 3 cotes of 45 durabond joint compound.
keithparker117 if you have the physical ability, please do. If you aren't physically able, do something else you are interested in. Point being, don't hold yourself back from doing and trying.....Its a big world and it's full of people who don't do anything and don't seem to want to encourage others either. Set high goals for yourself and act on them. Then you can be an inspiration for others..... Best wishes.....
The comments of some of the people here complaining about the "over use of screws." There are a few things in life that you shouldn't fuck with. The IRS, human stupidity is infinite, and building code inspectors. And of those three, only the middle one is an actual unknown. The Code is the goddamn law, especially in the USA. You do not fucking go less then the code - if anything, you go over the code. I've seen an inspector pull out his measuring tape because he found one stud that was a quarter inch off from were it needed to be, three hours later he handed the manager of the site about ten pages of stuff to be fixed - and had a copy himself for the official write up back at whatever satan pit of an office he worked at. IRS < Building Code Inspectors.
Where are you located? In the states you can get pricing at ArchwaysAndCeilings . com (Framing Kit Price) Generally here, to finish out a ceiling it usually costs the same as the framing kit. For example, a 6' dome sells for $329.95. To drywall it, it will probably cost you $330- 400. At least that is the case here in Texas. Other parts of the United States might cost more. Our labor here, is lower then most.
Great video. Can't help but feel disappointed that I didn't get to see the guy finish it though. A follow up video of mudding and taping the dome with a link to it at the end of this video would have been a nice touch.
@JennaHaze2000 I used an old 10' mesh satellite dish. Framed it up into the ceiling then sprayed plaster onto it using a curved form to shape the plaster to the dish. Took about 3 hours to get it done then all I did was lightly sand it smoother.
You guys need a forum like a convention. Share tips and tricks in person. Help people to help themselves or if need be have a professional help them is a brilliant idea. They can learn "how to" and "who can help" all in the same place. But just for small contractors and invite mark 1 plumming so you can help rebuild his company reputation. Better publicity.
I was inquiring about the costs incorporated into the whole process from framing to texturing on a dome like this. Where i am located vaulted, groin and other specialty ceilings are $2.34 a squ/ft labor based on 10ft ceilings. Just wonding if it would be competitive to place a Dome over a reading or dining area vs a vaulted or groin.
Great Job..! Don't worry, i did a lot off dry wall work, also a 10 dollar goggle is fogging when you are at work, then they even more dangerous then to use non by dry walls.
Vladimir Virtualkin No. The guys over at www.drywallnation.com were working on one that we sent them. They may have something that they can show you. *The universal dome kit video has some snap shots of us finishing one. ruclips.net/video/lyaB-Z4_EpE/видео.html It shows a textured finish not a smooth finish like most of the domes get.
in the metal fabrication business this is called onion skin. Used to repair 2 to 1 elliptical heads on vessels. I do layouts and laser programs to cut the material.
@bnewton81 you can score the back but scoring the back of drywall hurts the integrity of the drywall and can lead to future cracks in your ceiling. * The drywall will not be as strong. Wetting the back I think is a lot easier and just as fast. The key is to wet it before you start working so when you get to it...it is ready to go
I don't quite understand the question. The dome ceiling is an interior dome, it doesn't get wet. Usually the dome ceiling is in the attic space of a home. Are you referring to wetting the drywall to help it bend?
Well, here in Europe most walls are made froms bricks or concrete. I am not a Pro but if you build a dry wall here you are adding an "airvent". Thats because sometimes it can happen (wintertime) that hot air condenses on cold walls. So to enable aircirculation and keeping the drywall an the brickwall a DRY wall. The passing air takes away the humidity and so prevents molding. I just realised that the walls in the vid ALL are wooden. google the german word "trockenbau lüftungsgitter" :)
I would be cutting a pie sheet that covers two sections. Wet thoroughly and screw down in the middle. Cut second set and overlap first in staggered configuration.
all those old 7-8foot fiberglass satellite dishes that are useless these days make great dome ceilings, no joke, we did a 5 million dollar house that used one at the top of the spiral staircase, and it turned out flawless
Very good my friend, I'm living in Peru, also here in Peru, we do same, but with steel frame, here we don't use wood frame, I now it because i was working in USA five years, for that i know litle English
ola boa tarde meu nome é marcos campos moro em sp brasil é um trabalho muito lindo com um acabamento incrivel mas gostaria que se possivel com legendas em portugues brasil
or you can use the domes we make out of fiberglass they are 6ft, all you have to do is build the box and slide the dome into place 8 screws, light weight and no bending sheetrock.
True, you can definitely use fiberglass domes. Great product. Our advantage is we build to your spec's & fraction of the cost. On a side note, I had several builders use those old satellite dishes for domes, thought that was pretty interesting. One of my builders in late 90's went around collecting them from homeowners who wanted them off their property so he stored them for his future custom homes. We used to joke together that they probably got good cell service after he put them up as domes in his homes.
According to the USG book, you always wet the compression side of the drywall. In this case that would be the front side ( white side ). Just trying to help. I didn't make this up.
Tradesmen are awesome. That guy doing the install is absolutely talented.
30 years hanging board and framing. Still, I learn new ways every time. Thanks.

Gifted hands and very meticulous. Very nice job.

Aaah, the old "OSHA safety squint" technique. I know it's saved my eyes over the years countless times when using a drywall router!
Es la systema OSHA de Mexico.

i really enjoyed your videos keep em coming. Props to the hard working guys there as well
And then of coarse double that up for your minimum fire rating right? IDT a 1/4" of drywall will cut it. (@ least it won't up here in NYS) cool idea.
Great video. Can't help but feel disappointed that I didn't get to see the guy finish it though. A follow up video of mudding and taping the dome with a link to it at the end of this video would have been a nice touch.
Great vid......love watching pros do their thing.
can't beat a good hanger, hang on to these guys. 28 yrs framing 4 me. nicely done video brother
Totally agree... a good hanger is a game changer. Thanks for watching!
The Archway finished is a beauty!
Great work.. as for the finish fine trim wood, fypon or spectrum products... can be added over ... do you also do that possess ?

This is so cool , I dont do any of that but I love to see how others use their work skills , Amazing job
I love the commentary... Captivating.
I'm a drywall installer here in Brazil. Are they in need of labor? I want to migrate and work out.

yo e echo ese trabajo por 18 años y puedo decir que ese compa es profesional
Good job Jesus, and you did that skilled work, for 9$ an hr.
Do yall have any videos of finishing the drywall?
Unfortunately we do not.
@@ArchwaysAndCeilings should I make one and send it to you?
@@samiam7 yes. We would love to see it.

Wet the back
Good job. Congratulations to those workers

no, the drywall is dry by the time we are done hanging it.
When are you guys ever going to make up with South Dakota and get back together?
with what you wet the drywall? just water
What kind of material is it?
do you have video on how they finish it?
Vladimir Virtualkin No. The guys over at www.drywallnation.com were working on one that we sent them. Nice design...
Great skills. Awsome work.

Real very interesting, 👌
what is your dome framing made of.

Quedó muy bien el detalle de Drywall saludos ,de lima Perú
soo how did ya mud in that space, what tool did ya use, a sponge?
did your company make the archway? why wasn't the template used with router?
Thanks for posting. Beautiful work. Would love to see the finishing portion, taping, mudding and evening painting and mouldings.
Ya know one bad roof leak and the dry wall is ruined with major repair costs. Stucco or plaster is still the best way for longevity of a project.

I have known a few builders who have used this method. Probably the best use for those old satellite dishes :)
I so love the knowledge display here. Thanks

how do keep air circulation up in the space behind the dome to prevent mold ?

who make those drywalls router?
Google drywall router, drywall cutout tool or spiral saw. They will pop up in your search. Rotozip www.rotozip.com/en-us/Pages/Rotozip.aspx
Wouldn't it be easier to attach drywall before 'hanging' the unit? Pulleys??
No, it's easier to hang drywall once the dome is installed. It would be a pain to do it on the floor.
Bacana, apenas faltou EPI ( equipamento de proteção individual ) no caso o óculos. :)

According to the USG book, you always wet the compression side of the drywall. In this case that would be the front side ( white side ). Just trying to help. I didn't make this up.
