Awesome video, I need to do the same repair on a turbo waste gate. You have given me great detailed illustrations and advice on how to go about it. Super, this video couldn't have come at a better time👌
Wow I so wish you were near my location. Awesome video and now days they'll tell you replace complete Turbo. Your not a quitter you were determined and that speaks volume. My 2014 Tiguan went to shop today hardly wait to see what they say with my PO299 code light came on never had a issue running perfectly. Mechanics Like you are hard to come by. Appreciate watching your video Great Job! Thank you!
Still waiting on shop to diagnose it. If my code is PO299 does that mean I need to replace complete Turbo or could be a part only in there that needs replacing like how your doing the waist gate or be something else. I know you said send to you and you could fix it. What are your thoughts on this? Really appreciate your help. Is it difficult to take off the turbo?
I used your video as a guide and successfully fixed mine! Mine wasnt throwing the P0299 fault but the rattle was driving me insane! Only difference is when assembly, I installed it with alot of silver anti-seize in the wastegate bushing and the arm where the rod meets the arm!
@@CoolAirVw yea I had one installed, it was still rattling. It was the shaft and bushing that was worn and it was more worn than yours. 300,000km in my mk6 GTI man
All you had to do was set the bushing in the hole and then run the drill bit through. That would have put the notch in the bushing precisely where it belongs. And you would not have to fight alignment.
Hi thx for great content. Question: If the wastegate arm is tight do you think it could typically still be a loose and worn flapper inside? My Obdeleven graph showed making boost on full throttle but then losing boost short after. It even made zig zag patterns which is puzzling to me Any advice appreciated thanks 🙏
the only real way to tell is disconnect the linkage which is very difficult or impossible. Remove and inspect the n75 for torn diaphragm and replace it if its torn. Make sure there are no boost leaks.
I have this same code but mine doesn't have any play from the outside it seems. Thinking next step should be to replace the bypass valve. 130,000km on mine.
Yeah, I probably should have shown that in the diagnosis. Pull the bypass valve and see if it is a early style or if there is a rip in the diaphragm. But sometimes the actuator can be stuck also. Plus it can be hard to see the slop.
@@CoolAirVw bugs me because I had a brass rebuild kit I had for my gti but then I traded it in and sold the kit lol. I don't think it's my actuator as its in closed position. If it was a stuck actuator causing the code it would have to be stuck open wouldn't it?
I think coincidentally while using the torch I tempered the roll pin. I had heated the turbo, then let it cool slowly, as I was interrupted, then it drilled relatively easily when got back to it later. I feel like this is one of my better videos of tech content and filming was relatively good although as I watched it after uploading I noticed a editing timeline mistake. Thanks for watching, and supporting me on my channel.
Have to drill it out. They are pretty hard so maybe heat turbo to barely red in the area of the rolled pin, then let it cool slowly to anneal before drilling.
Hallo, i have a 2016 Tiguan and the check engine light came on. The deal told me it is the turbo and needs replacing. It seems there is a shortage of these turbos so will only be available in a month or so. My question is can i drive the car as is or will it cause damage to the engine?
CoolAirVw Rm good morning, thank you for your response, much appreciated. The turbo is still under dealer certified warranty so will no cost my anything(lucky). My main concern was that it might take long to get the part and i need to use the car. So you say no problem to drive the car? Will not cause any damage to the engine itself?
I had a same issue with my 2009 Volkswagen tiguan of Turbo/supercharger P0299 there is anyway I can call you by the phone , so you can take care of my car? Also how much

Didn't think of that... As long as the bushing was measured from the top first that would have worked great!
I was thinking the same thing and wondering if I was missing something lol
You just showed that not every thing is unbox and install very interesting thanks for sharing
Your welcome! Thanks for watching.
Where did you get the rebuilt kit?
Great video, extremely helpful. Which replacement flapper did you buy, looks to be a few options on ebay? Looks like yours had a good fit.
Avesome skills and .. i like that you are not just a whole part changer
thanks!

Are you using VCDS to make the graphs of the actual and desired boost pressure? Or hooking up your own lab scope
Yes VCDS. We use a scope alot but not for that.

Informative video. Thanks for making it.
your welcome. I'm selling the wastegate now if you need one.
Great job done
Is the wastegate normally open or normally closed
Thanks bro
Normally closed.

Where is you shop located at, can you please fixed my Tiguan 2013.
base don your other comment you should shoot it.
it would have been smarter to pop the cylinder in then drill once in place again to make the groove for the push-pin.
eh, maybe. But I used the groove to set the height. Maybe I'll try it your way next time.
I see multiple people asking where to find the rebuild kit, As.i would like to know myself also. But either I missed it or this was.never answered.

Hello, would you help me with inf. Where I can buy the parts.
Pls.
Thanks.
Good job
Is this common? How much is the cost for something like this? I'm far from the mechanic type
yes! We've done bunches now. If these parts would have been available sooner we could have done many more, instead of replacing turbos.
Hello, do you can help me, where to buy this parts?..mine is the same.
Thanks
Is this a two wheel drive Tiguan? Thanks!
Yes.
We did this repair to a 4wd since we've made this video.
