    Are you sure 1 pound of seed for 375 sq ft, I have a small yard (600sq ft) How much do you recommend for my area?

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  4 года назад +1

      It depends on the recommended seed rate for your seed type.
      This Bluebank KBG calls for a max rate of 3lb/1000 which is 1.125lb/375, so I was a little under the max rate.
      Assuming you’re using Bluebank seeds or any other grass seeds that has similar max rate, you should be putting down around 1.8lb/600
      I hope that helps.

    Your new lawn is looking very nice. What’s your secret to growing a new lawn in the summer judging by the time lines on your video? What state do you live in?

      Thanks Orlando, I’m in California Central Coast, sucks that we don’t get hot summers but it’s perfect for planting grass almost year round.

    Looks like a variety of perennial ryegrass. I’ve had it germinate in three days this June when we constructed a small retaining wall at our freshwater beach. I think the success was related to the fact that water hit the wall and splashed up and acted as a natural irrigation system. I’m in central Massachusetts and have spent many hours over the last thirty years and I’ve never seen anything germinate in three days! I constructed a Bentgrass tennis court at my house. If you can grow grass on a compacted sandy loam surface while cutting it down to 3/8” and having four two hundred pound men run across it for a couple of hours a week, I’m pretty sure you can grow grass anywhere. I love the challenge. Any idea on how to get rid of the demon crabgrass? It’s got me talking to myself. The English brought it over as a forage crop. The stuff will flourish in a crack in the sidewalk with a couple grains of sand in it under a blistering sun. Go figure. If I could breed a variety Bentgrass to do that, I’d be a billionaire! 007 is around $70/lb.

    My fav part of the video, you waited until completion for this update, that is was the best. Also-
    Cool to see the burlap, never seen that used and I may try it now.
    I love the property border and they way it ties into the sidewalk. Ties everything together, drawing attention to your hard work.
    The final result looks amazing already!
    Did you treat for the small bit of fungus?

    Great video and fantastic results! Question, at 5:30 you use do a light rolling. Does light mean you did not completely fill up the barrel of the lawn roller with water? I'm four days after seeding and am constantly trying to keep things moist and wet. I put my seed in very loose soil so right now I can't imagine being able to use a lawn roller or rotary mower on this soft wet ground. At what point do you let off the watering and let the ground harden up?

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Nick, yes it’s filled a little less than half. You back off on the watering when you think most of the seeds had already germinated, in my case was about 2-3 weeks. Also I highly suggest you put down some preventative application of fungicide around this time. Feel free to email me if have any other questions. Good luck 👍🏼

    How often did you water once you seeded , thanks A.Browne

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  4 года назад +1

      At least 3 light waterings a day until germination. The main idea is to keep the seed bed moist at all times, having dry times in between will delay germination.

    This series is what I needed.
    I don't feel comfortable using all the heavy equipment. however I do mow and edge.
    I'm in Philly ..My lawn is 90% weed I sprayed yesterday some home depot weed killer which I suspect won't do anything so I'm gonna get the tenacity.
    So I need to remove all the weed like you did?
    Or can I just rake up as much as I can?
    Or can I just kill the weed and then put dirt and seed?
    Do I need to aerate to get the seeds into the existing dirt?
    Thank you

    I know this video is a few years old now. But I wanted to say this is fantastic! It's simple, informative, and easy to watch! I'm currently working on my own kill and till renovation. I started a video series. But I think I need to stop for a bit and just work now without getting carried away with that, haha. Anyway, I needed some motivation today and stumbled on this video series. Pulling that burlap had to feel like opening a giant present! I'm in southern Indiana and chose the SPF 30 Hybrid Bluegrass for heat and draught we sometimes get. Hopefully it will look as good and is as fast as this was, since I'm a little behind (hopefully seeding this weekend!).
