    I love everything about your videos. I can see your attention to detail in every aspect... Not just the lawn, but the videoing, recording and editing. Its like ASMR in some places (which is a good thing - chills me right out). I'd love to see your lawn on a dewy, misty day, however weird that sounds :-) I bet your home is pristine and tidy and your partner the most contented soul on earth.

      Roy Soper I have drum rollers behind both my riding Club Cedet mower and a Ferris fairway reel mower I got for taking it away. Re built the engine myself however had the knifes and blades done professionally for free by a golf course in exchange for being able to use it while theirs was in the shop. When they found out I had rotating dethaching heads for it as well they almost would not return it. We have a deal. They get to use my unit with dethaching heads in exchange for them showing up each late June with the 4 inch deep by 6 inch apart plug aerators. I rent a small tractor rotating broom and a skid steer to clean up the plugs. I top dress with a sand and top soil mix. Over seed and in late July early August my lawns are back in business. Oh this gets done every three years.

      So far I’ve only used Tenacity as a pre-emergent during seeding/overseeding, I’ve never used it as a regular post emergent weed control,

    Awesome. Just done a dethatching and oversees and 4 weeks on its looking good but I found there are a few patches where the compost still is. I covered a thin layer all over and raked in but seed just didn't take. I'm hoping it will grown in but if not I'll have to seed those little patches. Nothing too difficult. Does it sound like I did anything wrong. Seed coverage was all over in both directions and watered twice a day. UK weather rains alot too so not sure if at times it got too much water. One question, when you level does it push all the seed around too or is that not an issue, I guess from the end shots probably not. Like your homemade leveler, gonna make one too. Sorry for the essay. 😀

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  5 лет назад

      Essay it was lol,.. sounds like you did everything alright, is it possible that the rain might have washed it out? Did you put down fertilizer when you overseeded? at times fertilizer could prevent the seeds from germinating if put down a little too heavy.

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  5 лет назад

      The seeds are in between the existing grass and underneath the sand/compost mix so no, the leveler did not push the seeds around.

  • @NoRoads2AllRoads

    Awesome backyard layout! It looks so good!! Quick question... your planters by the wall/retaining walls ... are they held only by those blocks? Have they held alright during the years? I am thinking of doing about the same height but smaller depth with the wall or just building planters with those blocks at same height, however, everywhere I read it states that they will end up bowing for retaining wall since the water pressure will be too great. Since my idea wouldn't hold as much dirt as yours, i think its feasible but anyhow just trying to assess how have yours held so well instead of just coming down/bowing out?

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the compliment Salvador 👍🏼 if the height of our retaining walls are about the same then we don’t have to worry about water pressure, if you you’re holding back a steep hill then yes, water pressure would be a huge issue. Regardless, I still build it as if i was holding back a hill, 6-8 inches of compacted baserock for a solid base, i buried 1 row of blocks, added 6-8 inches of gravel behind the blocks for proper drainage. Mine is only 15 months, it held the heavy rainy season we had this past winter. It didn’t dip nor bowed from all the water.

    • @NoRoads2AllRoads
      @NoRoads2AllRoads 5 лет назад

      @@ShortCutLawn great. It looks amazing I just fear it might now ... From all I've read but I really don't feel like doing rebar and things like that just for a 3-4 ft planter. My lot is completely flat so it wouldn't be holding any dirt other than what's inside. The gravel behind sounds good... Do you channel the gravel water somewhere away with a pipe or just have the gravel in place? Also I assume it's 1/4" gravel and not pea gravel correct? Thanks for your reply. Love both your layout and grass too

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  5 лет назад

      Sounds like you already did your homework 😁 again if i was holding back a hill a corrugated pipe would be needed to channel the water, since I’m not i just let gravity do its thing. Yes it’s 1/4 gravel. If built properly you shouldn’t worry about bowing.

      I have used a tow reel gang mowers and a pick up truck to pull it. I cover a 15 foot wide area in a single pass and that makes short work of really big property

    At least being a cubs fan, you wouldn’t be too upset if it wasn’t successful. In all seriousness, it looks good!

    Lol if I went around picking all that sized stuff out of my yard I would be 95 before I could get the mower out.
    Only thing that can save my yard currently is 4 dump trucks full of dirt and a Bob cat. It's so rut filled you couldn't walk across it with a cup of coffee. Michael dropped 17 trees on my property 9 on my house the rest on my yard which the tree company removed in the rain. like 6 months before that my septic tank and drain field needed to be redone and that left tank tracks through it. I dont even know how to begin to fix my yard lol.

    Do you always mow it without the grass collector box

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  5 лет назад

      I do both. Regretfully I should’ve used the catcher on this video, the long clippings from this first mow made the lawn look yellow for a while. Normally when I’m doing a quick buzz I don’t use a catcher.

    I live in a townhouse development where I'm responsible for my lawn. The only separation between me and neighbors lawn is a s small row of rocks. Their lawn is a bed of weeds. I've started grass with seeds and sod several times but it gets taken over by weeds in a year. Am I fighting a losing battle?

    • @ShortCutLawn
      @ShortCutLawn  4 года назад +1

      Well if you’re an average homeowner that just water and mow occasionally I can see you losing to that weed farm next to you 😁. But if you mow often, don’t mind putting down some weed killer and some pre-emergent herbicide then you’ll have a chance of a winning 👍🏼

    Hello. You started doing this in April. When is ok to start this job? Here in Croatia from Jun till August is temperature in average above 26°, and with this new climate changes there are more and more periods with 10-12 days without a drop of rain. And second question, do you always cut your lawn so low? Even through the hot summer days?

    • @antekristic4362
      @antekristic4362 5 лет назад +1

      When I say average above 26°, in practice that means a low of days around 35°. :-)

      Hey Ante, spring and fall is always the best time to do these kind of work on a cool season grass, we don’t get hot summers where i live (average 22°c) so I can pretty much do this year round except dec-jan.
      Yes I keep it low all the time.
