Mini Lawn Renovation | Part 2 - How to Plant Grass Seeds Email: theshortcutlawn@gmail.com INSTAGRAM: / theshortcutlawn Location: California Central Coast
Wow what a great and detailed video! May i ask if we do it now, how many days or weeks before we can actually see that the grass is full grown? Thank you
After i dethatched my front yard last summer, I put Pete moss over the seed and watered once per day. I'm about to do my backyard and will be buying a compost spreader.
Hi! Nice vid as always! You give me motivation all the time, so thank you :) Greatings from Hungary. Q: What size of roller did you use and what was in it?
Yes I don’t use it during seeding or overseeding. It could impede germination if applied too heavy in some spots. To minimize the risk I apply starter fert 3-4 weeks after full germination. (Seeds don’t benefit from ferts but young and growing grass plant does).
@@ShortCutLawn ahhh ok good to know! Thanks you! Trying my own renovation now. Seeded 3 days ago. I am already getting nervous that it wont germinate lol.
I started my grass seed project and I am 2 days in. I can see some of my foot prints on an area and it holds water. should I level the foot print area now or just leave it. Thanks.
I don’t during seeding, it could delay or stop germination if I’m not being careful and apply too heavy. So to be safe I apply it when grass is about 1-2”
@@ShortCutLawn good info! I wanted to ask this as well. Also the timing of Burlap removal and starter fert. So my understanding is to rove burlap when baby grass is about 1-2", then apply starter fert, then first cut is at 3". I hope I got tht right from your videors.
New subscriber and really enjoy your videos. Is the Bluebank a new cultivar? I don’t recall seeing it on their website last year and is the burlap a lawn grade or basic burlap? I’m sure it’s going to look as awesome as the back.
Thanks Ron 👍🏼 Seems like a basic burlap, i bought them from Lowes. I bought the Bluebank last year from seed superstore but I don’t recall seeing it back in 2018. They would take it down from their site from time to time whenever they are out of stock.
Great job and I like the burlap. How long are you keeping the burlap on? The burlap keeps the seed from washing away if you had a hard rainstorm. Great video
Great neat job , as always. Sure u have a lawn by now that looks beautiful. You're quite a perfectionist! You do things the right way , not the fast way,!
A great couple of videos, I’m having the same problem with my lawn, looks good from a distance but awful close up due to meadow grass taking over large parts of the lawn. So I’ve started killing it off so I can start again.
So much was communicated, but nothing was said. 😉 Keep up the great videos 👍
👍🏼
Good stuff man. Think KBG would do well in San Diego?
Thanks, SD is slightly warmer than cali central coast but I it’ll be alright, you may need to water a bit more though.
Did the burlap pull any of the roots out?
Yes when I was pulling it dry,. almost none when I sprayed it with water.

Wait a minute... You can actually put down Tenacity on the day of seeding? Even on TTTF?
Yes you can, works with PRG, KBG, TTTF 👍🏼
ShortCut Lawn Wish I would have known this! Thank you! By the way... this is the best seeding step by step video I have seen on RUclips
Thanks I appreciate it 🙏🏼
Great video. Looking forward to the next part. The lawn is going to look great!
Question: does ask for single seed account for a single blade of grass? Or does a single seed produce a clump of grass?
after so many shitty videos, this, part 1 and 2 should be the only videos on youtube for this job lol
Your lawn germinated pretty fast even without starting fert! Or did you put some down but didn't record it?
I didn’t, i usually put it down a couple of weeks later.
I explained it here on this video 👍🏼

The same method to put the peat moss as me, it's really tired. The peat moss spreaders are very pricy 😄😄
Nicely done!! It’s always a pleasure to see grass start germinating!!
Thanks Connor 👍🏼
What was your average air temperature when you planted your seed?
72°f/22°c
How long do you wait before the first mow after the first sight of germination?
1st mow was 26 days after first sign of germination. I was away for a few days and I could’ve mowed at day 21.
Purdue university says, until The new grass is 2”
Hi! Nice vid as always! You give me motivation all the time, so thank you :) Greatings from Hungary.
Q: What size of roller did you use and what was in it?
Its 24” water or sand filled (270lbs), on this video it’s half filled with water around 130lbs.
Thank You and you’re welcome Attila 🙂👍🏼
What kind of KBG Seed did you use?
It’s called Bluebank, thanks for checking out the video 👍🏼
1lb of kbg has over 5 times more seeds than 1lb of turf type tall fescue. KBG are small and light seeds
I’m surprised the seed is able to take on the light covered in burlap?!
Nice job! That's gonna look awesome!
i notice you did not use starter fert or fert of any kind. Any particular reason?
Yes I don’t use it during seeding or overseeding. It could impede germination if applied too heavy in some spots. To minimize the risk I apply starter fert 3-4 weeks after full germination. (Seeds don’t benefit from ferts but young and growing grass plant does).

lol...you’re just 3 days in , i’d start biting my nails at around day 8 and still no germination 😁
@@ShortCutLawn lol

Definitely would of wore long pants when spraying tenacity
I see a new lawn being made but I also 👀 see 🎂 cakes
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Do you use any Starter Fert?

Watch it with the sound off.

Thanks Edward 👍🏼 when I see that most seeds had already germinated or when the grass gets to be 1” in height.

Thank you sir 🙏🏼 definitely my favorite comment of the day 🙂👍🏼
Nice! I may use a ground cover next Reno as well, but more for erosion control.
Cool, I think that’s the main purpose of burlap?
@@ShortCutLawn I suppose so, I've never seen large amounts of burlap for sale.
I see you used the burlap, does that help a lot, I know it keeps the birds off, and how long do you keep it on?
I believe so, it also kept the soil moist. I removed it after 14days.
Wow! I sense many hours of happy mowing this new area 👍 great editing as well! Wish my lawn was as flat as yours lol
Thanks Rob 🙏🏼
All that attention to detail! I’m surprised you don’t work at a golf course!
I thought about working part time at slns fairways ⛳️ 😁

Nice, are you going to film the process?
ShortCut Lawn I think I might film it, I’ve started killing it off 👍
What a great video!! Nice work, wow!! 😎👍🏼
Thanks 🙏🏼
Do you think that the roller is that necessary..??
I’ve used it on all my seeding and renovation projects and it helps.
Hello, when do you put your fertilizer down?
1-2 weeks after full germination.
What type of Seeds is that?
Kentucky Bluegrass (Bluebank)
What variety kbg you go with?
I have NuGlade on my main lawn and I used Bluebank on this project.
Where did you buy your seed? Online?
I buy all my seeds from Seedsuperstore.com
Question - If I attempted to do the exact steps you've done instead with a Fescue seed... do I need to change anything (steps)?
Should work with fescue, no problem.
