Most videos I see people look like they have to work it in by brushing and dragging for hours. Yours look so effortless. The sand is just disappears with one pass. How did you get it to do that?
Great question, couple of reasons why people seems to struggle spreading top dressing materials (including myself), applying too much at one time and not letting the material dry out completely before spreading. Thanks for checking out the video 😎👍🏼
Why is it so damn hard to find good topsoil. It's full of c rap no matter where you buy it from.
Would never believe that's a brand new lawn , looks so established and the color is vibrant green . Now you can enjoy the fruits of your labor, well deserved!!!
Thank You 🙏🏼
I would hate to be neighbor with this guy!
You do you on the giveaway. Congratulations on the subscriber & view milestones! Keep making great content for our community!
Thanks Ben 🙏🏼
You don't need to do a giveaway, just keep putting out great videos. Awesome job.
I appreciate that Jerry 👍🏼
I'm ready to win
Beautiful lawn ! I'm learning.
As much as I love lawn work and being outside in the yard, I always get a bit envious of your small space! Looking fantastic as usual!
We need an update video on the bluebank!!!
My Bermuda is about 5 weeks old, do you think I’m good to top dress now?
Sorry, I’m not really experienced with bermuda.
Lawn is looking great 👍🏽
this last footage close to the ground.... it's incredible!!!
Awesome job brother! I was expecting some mellow lounge tunes, but the chirping birds will do. It’s seldom we get the ones that’s sing, we just have pigeons cooing and pooing.
lol... thanks bro 👍🏼
You have a top notch lawn sir, more vids is not too much to ask is it? 😁 👍🏼
Looks good!
Don't you damage small grass plants with rake and other equipment?
Actually, why not top dress right after seeding, to have seeds deeper in soil?
Omg after seeing several of your videos, I begin to think you must be some kind of grass god
Have you tried a compost roller? I use that for my zoysia. Just load it with the top dressing and it will filter out the larger pieces.
Not yet but I’m in the process of making one 😎👍🏼
In your opinion what tool do you prefer to use to level your lawn? The rake tool in this video or do you prefer the mini drag tool you created with 2x4's? Thanks!
Definitely the mini drag, but for a smaller lawn like the one on this video the rake is perfectly fine.
That is compost but it hasn’t been hot like good garden compost.
Where did you buy your huge spreader rake? I need one!
Hey! I just did a mini lawn renovation (400 sq ft) using all your videos as guides, just seeded 4 days ago and covered with peat moss and burlap, hoping for the best! Thanks for these videos, hoping for more to come!
Awesome Alec ! just keep with the watering and you should have baby grass any day now. Best of luck 👍🏼
May I ask were you purchased the flex edge. Also was that a Brinly roller you used in past videos.
Got those bend-a-board from homedepot. Yes it is a Brinly 👍🏼
Today is the first day of Spring here in South Africa. Just the motivation i need to reseed and top dress my lawn today! Thank you.
Awesome Shaun 👍🏼
About to follow all your steps in a lawn renovation. Just killed my lawn. Looking forward to having a killer lawn like yours! Yes give away!
Good luck with your renovation,. Let me know how it goes 👍🏼
Once again beautiful job and beautiful lawn! You do very precise work there my friend. Go ahead and give away give away and give away!
Thanks Edward.
Another great video.
Of course you should do a giveaway! :)
Yes! I need that rake spreader! Do a give away!☺
Another great video bro. 👍🏾
Thanks 🙏🏼
What rake are you using ? Its epic . Looks like a tar rake
36” landscape rake by Razor-Back
Now I just have to do that on 12,500ft2! Lot more raking!
If my calculations is correct, that’s about 33.33 times more raking. 😬
Great job. Great video. Thanks.
👍🏼
Hey, great video, really appreciate it. I’m trying to determine if I need another mower than I have to ensure a good enough cut. I’ve got a 21” Yard Machine rear bag/mulch at 139cc. Is that enough power in your opinion?
Yes do a giveaway.
Very nicely done. I like that you cant see the soil once you leveled it in. Do you recommend applying some fertilizer to give the grass a push or will the compost be enough fuel. ?
Highly recommended, I do it a week before putting down the material.
@@ShortCutLawn thank you. Love ur content.
i'd take a giveaway .
That isn't just giant weed ... It's biodiversity bruh
Did you use the .5 inch rule to figure out how much top soil you needed?
The bigger pieces of wood you filtered out are exactly the organic matter that works into the soil and helps avoid compaction and helps drainage and let’s good bacteria have access to more oxygen and basically more air spaces in the soil. It takes a few days to not be so noticeable but after 2 weeks it’s part of the soil
I’m not sure if you notice but my lawn is maintained between 3/8” to 5/8” and its super dense, can you imagine having these junk on it? and not to mention the damage it will cause to a reel mower. All I wanted from that mix is the sand and manure compost and not those ground up wooden pallets, rocks and bolts. I don’t disagree with what you mentioned above, I’m sure it would make perfect sense on a 3” tall fescue lawn.
(looks like you’re going through all my videos, just don’t skip the adds alright 😉👍🏼)
Job well done. I also use organic compost soil conditioner with high humus content for top dressing. That mixed with peat moss applied to an over seeded lawn using Bewitched KBG. Just starting to see germination day 7. Will see how it gets along with the Midnight. Trick is, like you say, dry mix and let the grains fall where they may. My vote, landscape rake ~ Mike
Thanks Mike, would love to see a video of your project 👍🏼
Looking great !! Love the clan look of short grass. As a lawn care provider i wanted to mention that I have found that a broadcast fertilizer spreader will work very well with DRY topsoil. I top dress about a dozen Zoysia lawns and they prefer sand. I just happened to try it one day and was pleased. My Earthway 50lb spreader handles it well. What type of turf do you have ?
Thanks Ron!..I tried spreading sand using my cheap scotts spreader and did not work at all 😁
I have Kentucky Bluegrass btw.
Used your burlap technique on a sloping section of my lawn. Survived the downpour we had. Giveaway? Wow I could sure use a rake like that! 😎
Awesome Jay! yeah that rake is great 👍🏼
Bro! Are you a Filipino?
yessir 👍🏼
Sabi ko na nga ba eh😊😊😊👍👍👍. Salamat sir! Salamat bro. Mabuhay ka.
Thanks Johnas 🙏🏼👍🏼
What type of wire is that on the sifter meaning what is the square size?
1/4 inch.
I made a super cheap lawn leveling tool out of wood and an oscillating garden hoe. Cost me less than $30CAD compared to the ones online for $150+USD. Oh and yea a giveaway would be cool lol.
Awesome Kerwin! funny you actually saw the survey buried in the middle of the vid 😁👍🏼
ShortCut Lawn lol usually I slowly scroll through some of the long videos. Your videos are really good though. Very simple and straight forward 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks 🙏🏼
Al is that you?
Yeah, which Leonard are you?
Which one do you know?
Nice lawn you got!
Good job bro
Thanks
Dude, I’m down to 1.5” with my greenworks reel mower, and it stripes too. Reel mowing doesn’t have to be expensive!
I agree, I still use my Scotts Classic to this day.
I ended up moving to a new house this year and did a massive renovation, 8 cubic yards of compost/topsoil and reseeded with PRG. I probably had too much soil delivered but it still turned out better than expected. Next year, I think I’ll get that same mix and do 3 yards to level out some spots. Videos like this gave me the confidence I could do this too!
