I just paused this video 25 seconds in to buy the book in paper and audiobook versions. I listened to the first chapter and I highly recommend you buy it too. (And their first book which was also amazing). Now I’m back to watch the interview because I can’t ever get enough Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar.

It's like Seth says, everytime such a white person as myself thinks "Oh, I've got it, this is bad", it just turns out to be a lot worse. Like, we KNOW that black people are offered worse deals, but then she is right there on the phone calling those car dealers out on their lies, and they have the audacity to offer her just a fraction of the discount Mr. White Friend was offered ... and it's the same car, the same money, and WHY would they want to say no?
It's not only mean or stupid, it's ... well, I guess it's this alternative reality, where they feel hurt by black people having the audacity to exist. Racism is SO weird.
I read that first book to my daughter, but I warned her about some of the chapters, because she could end up not sleeping at all after reading something like that thing with Lacey's art classes (read it, no spoilers here). And that's just a girl *reading* about injustices. Imagine cute little Lacey being treated like that in school!
I immediately went on audible and bought the book right after they said the name of it! The first book was amazing and I know this one will be too! And just when you think Amber and Lacey couldn't get any cuter, they laugh and have their shoulders bouncing in sync! 😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰

Nobody believes me when I tell them about unwarranted traffic stops, vulgarity during job interviews and disgusting excuses for pickup lines. Maybe they'll believe it from Amber and Lacey because, enough is enough.

I’m sure there are people who really enjoy laughing at these stories. They made me really sad.
Same. I couldn't finish the first book from all of the emotions it brought up.
When Black people laugh at these stories, it's not out of humor; it's recognition and relief of knowing you aren't the only one dealing with that racist crap on an hourly basis. Too many people, particularly white people in media, want to gaslight us and claim we couldn't Possibly go through these things as often as we say we do. Clearly, they are too stupid to recognize we only tell a small fraction of what happens to us.
I had a combination of laughing and crying. Sometimes situations are so ridiculous you have to laugh at them a little.
The story that they told Seth during that interview is pretty sad. When the dealership got caught being racist, they dug in and stuck to their racism. I'm glad Lacey didn't buy the car. There's a video on RUclips where Amber talks about Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rosewood, Florida being just the tip of the iceberg regarding bustling black towns that were overrun and destroyed by angry white people. She mentions Oscarville, Georgia - a black town that an angry white mob destroyed and killed a lot of its citizens. In the aftermath, they covered up the town with water and made a new lake. Amber then proceeds to list a couple of dozen other cities throughout the country with similar stories.
I loved the first book! I was shocked and horrified but was so happy to have read it. They did such a great job with storytelling and making jokes. I am so excited for the 2nd book! 🙌🙌🙌

Same thing happened to me. There's something about being short female. My other small, female friends and I are bombarded daily with unbelievable comments and behaviors that non small females find astonishing. Obviously more things happen to small female persons of color.

I'm a white Canadian , but I have my own story of unknowing racism .When the logging industry in B.C. contracted, the Gov't started some retraining programs . My brother became an electronics repair person. the teacher was a black gentleman from Haiti. At the graduation dinner ,he stood by the entrance to welcome his students. My mom came with brother . upon meeting the teacher she said (perfectly sincerely with a bright smile ) "Oh hello are you with the band ??"
