This episode terrified me as a kid especially that scene where the Phantom just stands there and watches Scooby and Shaggy, with no music playing
Bro me two! And that one where he was in the proptors Box watching Velma and Daphne.
That part where shaggy has to double take the phantom in the dressing room is nightmare fuel! Holy shit!!
OG Scooby-Doo was creepy af... like it should be.
Then Zombie Island & Witch's Ghost helped bring back said creepiness...one reason why those are two of my favorite Scooby flicks! :)
@@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose don't forget the live action scooby doo movie from 2002 the demon possessed people and I think 13 ghost of scooby doo is kinda creep
Amen brother
The first half of this episode was so scary! I don't think we had ever heard Fred scared/confused when they move the theater owner guy and he's like 'he's a puppet too!' Granted it ended up like every other episode (it's because of Scooby Doo that I knew what counterfeit money was at a young age), but this episode is one of my top favorites because I feel like it was kind of toeing the line between trying to still be kid friendly while also giving a good feeling of dread, uncertainty.. and making puppets creepy af
Any theatre-based villain will automatically remind me of The Phantom of the Opera. 😆😉🌹
Stolen right from my mouth!
@@ooeygooeygoodra3068 Well then, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that way! 😆
Yeah, right. I love that musical.
This was the scariest episode of the series for me. I couldn’t even make it to the ending because of that laugh
CYD IS THE SCOOBY-DOO GOD
It may not be the strongest epsiode.. but it has one of the creepiest atmospheres/vibes out of the early episodes. Something about it just gave me goosebumps when I was a kid
Right! Really the Doorman and (partially) Johnny the Puppet are the two suspects. But it’s one of the creepiest and scariest episodes.
Great to see another Scooby-Doo episode video!
This episode had one thing that can really help an episode stand out in a special way: Atmospheric Tension
It’s Every little spooky detail like the puppet’s eye opening, a gloved hand cutting a sandbag, Vikings and Pirates appearing on stage out of nowhere, and the moment where the “doorman” is revealed as a puppet. All of these small things that build up a scary scenario for the gang.
Almost Every Scooby fan I met loves Backstage rage, I along with them find the plot scarily realistic and find the puppeteer very memorable, to me he’s a precursor to Judge Doom and the Undertaker, he has so many scary moments and a wonderful cackle! Definitely one of the scariest episodes this show has along with A Night of Fright is no Delight.
As a kid, I used to be afraid of puppets. I thought the Muppets looked scary, marionettes creeped me out, etc.
Now I love puppets, Hell, I've learned to make puppets, learned ventriloquism, etc, and this episode creeps me out a little less.
Understandable. For me, it was less puppets in general that scared me, and more so its freakier cousin, ventriloquist dummies. It stemmed mostly from reading about Slappy in the Goosebumps books, and then watching Saw creator Leigh Whannell's Dead Silence (2007), which literally had about a hundred creepy a.f. dummies in it, including one made from a human body. It's not so bad now, since I love Jeff Dunham's characters for example, but the classic-looking dummies still creep me out a bit.
Fraggle rock probably scared the shit out of you😅
This episode of Scooby Doo could have been enhanced by really making the doorman a puppet like the others the whole time and have a surprise character at the last minute being the theater owner\puppet-master be the villain. Yes, it would have been an Agatha Christie cop out but it would have been enough to make it possible for the kids watching the show to not get too comfortable with the format.
I've never heard someone critically analyze Scooby doo episodes. I love it!
Personal I love this episode it's creepy at times
THANKS for DOOing this! The ghost were on strike this episode.
Aka the episode where Shaggy steals $20 from an old man.
Well he was the villain of the episode
One of my favorites! This episode always creeped me the hell out when I was little!
Woo! Scooby doo!
I love this episode so much when I was a kid I used to watch Scooby-Doo all the time when I was a kid I mean you're kind of right if Pietro's secret was reviewed then his entire scheme would have been revealed as well
I definitely remember being really creeped out by this episode. Maybe it has something to do with the puppets themselves.
I never found this episode scary but I realized as I got older that this is one of the first times someone tries to physically hurt the gang.
I think it said that this episode just came out 4 minutes ago and theres only 28 likes, not including my thumbs up... this is an OUTRAGE the Good Doctor deserves atleast 50 if not a 100 likes by now, five minutes should take it to a 100.
Just sorta idly Geppettoing alone in the dark. 😂
The phantom in this episode used to terrify me as a kid, definitely one of the most memorable monsters
This is probably one of my favorite of the original series, not my absolute favorite but a good one
The part when the doorman turns into the puppet as they try to wake him up his head tilts. My god that terrified me as a child but I kept on watching them lol
The piano scene and the Doorman puppet reveal creeped me out as a kid. The music was a big part of that.
Yay! A nice treat to have on my birthday! Thanks, Doc!
This episode freaked me out a lot as a kid. Especially the part where it seemed like pop was turned into a puppet.
Great video, although it is my favorite scooby doo where are you episode. It always felt unsettling like you didn't know how the situation could get more terrifying.
I was so creeped out by this as a young kid, especially when the doorman is revealed to be a puppet.
Really liked your commentary, interesting how there really aren't any 'ghouls' to unmask this episode.
It's always great to see these. Your channel has a fantastic variety that so many others lack.
The behind the scenes villain and episode
I love this series, keep up the great work my man.
Good Morning Doctor Wolfula !!
As a long time fan of your channel, Im loving these new type of reviews!!
The phantoms laugh scared me as a kid
I actually JUST watched this episode this weekend 🕵️♂️👻🐩🐕🎂
That’s has got to be the scariest episode. The puppet master is terrifying. Also I loved the Batman reference.
Something about this episode made it especially creepy to me as kid. I'm not sure if it was the setting or the puppets, but it legitimately scared me. Even if it wasn't the best episode structurally, that vibe still sticks with me. The only other episode that was as creepy was Haunted House Hang Up in season two.
This episode gave me goosebumps as a kid
When fred tried to wake up the puppet master and his head rocked sideway i damn near passed out
Well you win some and lose some, for a lackluster ep. it’s still pretty good.
Can’t wait for the review of the episode with the hypnotizing clown...that one used to give me the freaking boo-boo jeebies
1:42
Why does that sound like scrappy to me?
I'm sorry to say I love Scooby Doo. It's just so good. So unique.
It's a good episode. 😀👍
$20 used to be alot in the '90's...lol
I personally thought this episode was pretty damn good. It's not too memorable, but I can re-watch it and still have a good time!
As a kid, the puppet master was a...bit creepy. I mean a tall man wearing a black cape in disguise, and in a few shots, it looks like he has no eye balls what so ever (like here 3:17). So yeah, he was still pretty creepy to me. Not to mention, I LOVE his evil laugh! And I love his line when he's chasing the gang and saying "YOU KNOW MY SECRET!" Such a classic line to me! I know it might sound like I'm exaggerating over this episode lol But like I said, I just really thought it was fun to watch. Is it one of my favorites? No. But that doesn't mean it's bad. =)
Love this series of yours so much ^_^ you should do live watch along when Scoob comes out Friday!
This my favorite episode
Love the part when after shaggy shows the aformendtioned dollar bill to fred and after fred said for shaggy to hide the bill so that no one would see it annyways that face when hes hiding it behind his back is freaking funny also that girl puppet dog holy moly she's freaking beautiful just like the pink dog form decoy for a dognapper
I remember this episode, It's not one of the stronger ones but it's A-Okay.
Keep in mind puppeteers work behind the scenes like above the stage so the villain wouldn't necessarily be known on sight.
I thought I watched a lot of Scooby-Doo episodes growing up, but since watching your retrospective and looking back over the series, I'm amazed to see how many episodes I missed, such as Backstage Rage here. I do however look forward to your review of Spooky Space Kook, A Night of Fright is No Delight, A Gaggle of Galloping Ghouls, and the episode with the Tiki man & his wheelie statue sidekick (forgot the name of that one).
Probably the best Scooby-Doo episode imo. And one of the scariest.
I'll never understand how a man that old was able to climb the rafters that fast
I have all the original Scooby Doo where are you box set and liked it
3:54: Nice Growl, Scooby.
Another Tuesday another great Scooby Doo review!
Yeah I'd definitely like y'all to go back to weekly uploads of this.
Hearing Cyd and Shaggys voice back to back makes Cyd sound like Shaggy at 31 after he finally settled down and had a family and stopped eating dog food and getting so baked with his Great Dane that he had to have his preppy douchebag friend with an ascot drive his van cause he's the only other one with a license
Demonte Price and married velma
Jaden Bryant THICC Velma.
Good morning yay a Scooby doo video
Loved the Batman reference!
Lol the puppeteer is sus
Thank you so much for bringing this back doc, goulash and Sid you guys are the best !!!!!

Scoob... You disspoint me... Your a simp :(
This villain actually scared me
This was always a fav of mine, the first time I saw Pietro’s head fall out of place I ran out of the room. Definitely one of the creepier episodes. He attempted to kill Velma too, she’s my girl, it always stuck out in my mind growing up.
Honestly I’m pretty sure Pietro wasn’t working alone. He’d need multiple people to operate this ruse
DOOBEY DOOBEY DOOP!!!
All I can think of is...
"YOU WILL CURSE THE DAY YOU DID NOT DO... ALL THAT THE PHANTOM ASKED OF YOU."
Love this episode frist
Okay a question for you all who watched this episode for a first time. Who else thought that the villain of this episode was going to be the ghost of a violent gangster criminal with firearms of somekind? Yes, it probably would've been too violent for kids tv of the late 60's, but I personally think that it would have been such a cooler concept instead of the unnamed puppet theater phantom we got.
Johnny the puppet was fucking ALIVE ?
This is my favorite Scooby Doo episode
I've been wondering this since you started this series. Did you use the violin quartet track from the Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed score?
I've never perceived the gang to be teens, they are late 20s, early 30s in my head
please be a guest on cinemassacre
I dont know how you can say the phantom wasnt memorable. Creeped me out as a kid.
Good video.
Yeah this episode is the reason why I’m so afraid of puppets The ones that look like marionettes really freak me out
Hey doc matpat made a scooby doo theory its called scooby is an alien and I was wondering if you could point holes in his theory. why because you know a lot about scooby-doo.
I agree with you he should do that
Nice.
😏One of my favorite scooby episode
I'm suprised you didn't mention how this was by far the scariest episode of the original series. It terrified me as a kid and I think they went a little overboard with the creepy imagery considering it's a kids show
❤❤❤
This not my favorite episode but I still like it
haha remember being jealous on scooby for having a girlfriend, when I didn't. I was only 3 at the time xD
Are you going to do 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo?
Pietro is easily one of the dumbest Scooby Doo villains, why did he show the gang some puppeteering while he was pretending to be a doorman?
He clearly knew the gang was on to his counterfeiting scheme.
A doorman that can also control puppets? Gee, I wonder if the doorman is the culprit behind the operation? Nah, the culprit can't be this dumb.
I know this seems silly but can you do a review of scoobynatural
Keppi g dogi jobb🖕🏿👎🏿🤐🐝🤑😡😹💤💤💩💩
I've loved your channel for years, but do you actually like Scooby Doo? Lol like, every video is
*Beginning of video*- "is a good episode
*Middle of the video*- "this episode is shit, and obvious"
*End of the video*- "over all it's a good episode"
Lol
