      the actor they picked for that character in my opinion was the only person to play him well.
      perfect timing of comic relief while trying to get serious things done. he basically helped make jack o'neill more of a believable character, to the point you felt as though you could bump into him in the real world and he would just give a smartass witty comment about all the things he has done.
      in fact i couldnt imagine anyone else in any of those character roles, but without him the whole team just seemed to fall apart.

    • @hdhale2
      @hdhale2 7 лет назад +19

      @blueskybelyr 7 лет назад +14

      +wakcedout I keep seeing people say the show wasn't as good without him, and I don't get it! The addition of Mitchell kind of rejuvenated the team, and I noticed after Jack left that the comedy was more evenly spread throughout the team. Daniel in particular turned into a bit of a smartass in the later seasons, lol, like Jack's behaviour got to all of them.

    • @wakcedout
      @wakcedout 7 лет назад +16

      Blue Sky yea but he just played that character soooo well and really made the whole thing more relatable. it went from this scifi space show to feeling like there really could be a stargate you could walk thru to another world.
      and when a character feels that believable it brings you into the show more.
      probably the writers realized they had to keep o'neils sense of humor in there to keep the audience.

      Taylor Pennington Remember that this whole episode is merely the perception of the documentarian of events the team is conveying to him without O'Neil present. So of course they would potray themselves well and O'Neil poorly.
      I imagine that this is the result of Jackson saying something like, "Another time I was conducting a lecture on a series of decipherings on an ancient tablet that may have been the most important discovery to Earth at the time. But not to O'Neil, no this was the time he chose to walk in and making obnoxious snoring sounds. The nerve!" What we see is the documentarian's take on that.
      :3

    • @pendragonfan42
      @pendragonfan42 6 лет назад +2

      Marty wasn't a documentarian. He was coming up with ideas for his TV-show movie adaptation. Jack knew him better than anyone in that room, and Marty is the only other recurring Jack-fanboy in the entire series (Skaara, but for much better reasons). Safe to say anything they say could do nothing to tarnish Jack's name in Marty's eyes, not that they would want to to begin with. I wouldn't say that it was his perspective, but rather just a funny way of telling a funny episode. The one time the writers can take a breath and not have to worry about 'continuity this' and 'causality that'. They could be outrageous and vague, and they did.

      there is nothing actually wrong , th the scene as such, its just somthing that displayed that they knew each well enough that Sam could guess he might try it, and that O'Neill knew and respected her well enough to say something rather than be quiet and still try to look. and if you notice, she didnt exactly tell him to take a hike did she?

      +BartJ583 as i described before mate, there's been a number of times such chemistry has openly been shown and more where its just underlying.

    This is one of the best uses of invisibility in tv both in terms of comedy and action although the action is brief they do show off how useful it can be.

    Someone help me out here-- when Jack is snoring during Daniel's lecture about discovering 'the most important thing in the Universe', which is it; has Jack *really, literally* fallen asleep, due to Daniel being so dry and boring, or is Jack just making the snoring sounds to *poke fun at the fact that Daniel is being so dry and boring?* Given that its Colonel (at time of the clip, anyway) Jonathan J. "Jack" O'Neill that we're talking about...could well be either (and maybe we're supposed to think that).

    • @csgrambauer5852
      @csgrambauer5852 5 лет назад +1

      In that context, I believe Jack actually would've fallen asleep because he's just that kind of guy. If it were boring he would just leave.

      BartJ583 If that scene bothered you, then SG1 ain't for you bud. They obviously had feelings they couldn't express due to being military. Remember the episode where Sam was about to get married, backed out, and went to Jack's house, goes on a bit, then says "..and if I don't tell you now, I might never..." at which point the woman who Jack is currently dating comes out of his house and interrupts. We all know what she was going to say, and the feelings between them have been obvious. Even in season 1 Jack was impressed with Sam's attitude.

    My favourite part about this bit, is if you watch the behind the scenes, they were doing this scene as a joke because RDA wasn't available to film at the time.
    Well, as it turns out, he happened to be on set the day they were filming, so the guy in the green-suit is actually RDA pretending to be RDA.

    (O'Neill, still invisible, and Teal'c walk down a corridor. The only thing that gives O'Neill's presence away is the coffee cup he holds)
    Teal’c: You cannot remain this way, O'Neill.
    O’Neill: Why not? It gives us an advantage over the Goa'uld. I can sneak around all I want, totally undetected. I give us the element of surprise. The bottom line is, I can do more for this planet invisible than I ever could as my own sweet salient self. (O'Neill stops and drinks from his coffee mug. Teal'c stops and turns to where he believes the invisible O'Neill stands. He stares towards O'Neill silently for a few moments.)
    Teal’c: (Deadpan) I assume I am staring at you stoically.
    O’Neill: (Gesturing with mug) Not buying it, eh?
    Teal’c No. You are most transparent, O'Neill.
    (Teal'c begins walking again, O'Neill following behind.)
    O’Neill: Oh. I get it. Good one.
    Teal’c: I can see right through you.
    O’Neill: Don't push it.
