A little girl walked up to an Old British Veteran, who had served from Dunkirk, 1940 to Holland, 1945, she asked him if he had to fight in the war again, would he do it? The Old Veteran smiled and replied in a gentle voice; “For you? Always.” You can’t make this stuff up, we truly were blessed to have such beautiful souls guide our world through such dark and uncertain times.

I wrote about that poem in 8th grade. The year was 2018, 100 years after the battles of the Great war, and I wrote an essay. It will always be the essay I am most proud of. It was on that poem (The Solider), In Flanders Fields, and Dulce et Decorum est. Lest we forget the horrors of that war.

Might be my favourite monument ever, truly embodies the pointless sacrifices made by the brave men and boys in the 1910s. If only they could have stopped it sooner. The war to end all war, that ended nothing. Rest in peace to all who served.

(Flute) I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. (Vocal) And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; _We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;_ _Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;_ And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, _And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace._
The first line the undying love the love of God. And the sacrifice of Jesus. The 2nd line is the story of heaven and how some may not get to see our holy king. But when we get there we shall know true peace. Amen

My great grandfather fought in ww2 in the german Wehrmacht in many battles including Stalingrad. He, his wife and son were hiding a jewish woman inside their House for the entirety of the war. He was shattered by a grenade on the frontline and half his body was penetrated by Grenade fragments. Even tho he survived I never got the Chance to talk to him as he died before I was born.
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgement of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell” “The Final Inspection” -Unknown Author
I had a great great grandfather who served in the U.S. Army during world war 2. Based off what my grandma told me, he was the sole reason why her and the rest of my family was able to come to America from the Philippines. He was deployed to the beaches of Normandy. He was supposedly killed there as they found his dog tag around the beach, but his body was never identified. He was declared M.I.A. The only way I remember him now is a picture of him and his dog tag in a frame. He was a fighting Filipino. They will always fight for freedom.
Those who say that about WW2/WW1 Vietnam ect. are for degenerated psychopath its like poo on everyone that gave their life for their country. Obiously they didn't said that about war movies because they are movies.
Merely people who do not understand the impact of videogames. Though to answer your question accurately you must answer the question of exactly what art is.
For 2 years I had hopenin BF5, even thru the hell the game went through, and now half of World War 2 is now never going to get to be seen by DICE (referring to the Eastern, Western, Italian, Winter war, and Fall of Berlin) God rest this game, hope BF6 learns a lesson from bf5
As a Canadian I've always thought of my own homeland when listening to this song but the verse that starts with "and theres another country I've heard of long ago" makes me think of the UK.
@Empire Entertainment I disagree, I love this country and will give my life for it, however my loyalties don't and will never lie with a monarch. My loyalties are to this soil and it's people, thus making God save the Queen redundant. I vow to thee is much more fitting for our national anthem and have been thinking about campaigning to get it changed to so.

@@thomasjackson6971 Yeah, that is basically the definition of war. Don't be that disrespectful to my fatherland because of this. The allied countries fight offensive wars in their history too. Be aware of the fact that i hate the Nationalsocialists for what they did to Europe but I don't hate my country because of that period in our history. That would be short minded.
This is a British patriotic song. Lyrics to the parts that were sung: And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace. The "country" refers to Heaven, the "King" refers to God. This song fits perfectly. As the soldiers fighting in the war died, they went the Heaven, hence the part about "soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase". Beautiful song.
To all those soilders that fought for our freedom may you rest in peace we will never forget your sacrifice 🇦🇺🇬🇧🇫🇷🇮🇳🇳🇿🇷🇺🇺🇸🇨🇦 And to those on the other side may you rest in peace as well.🇯🇵🇩🇪🇮🇹
My great grandfather was a radioman in the Pacific Theater, fighting the Imperial Japan in our homeland, Philippines, and it was not easy having a 17 kg radio pack at his back which was very unpleasant for him, but he kept going on. He also fought in the Korean War as well, and been promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. He passed away due to old age by 2005..
My great-grandfather was a Japanese soldier during World War II. When he demobilized from China,my grandfather was initially unaware that he was a father. My great-grandfather was drafted shortly after he was born. The feelings of my great-grandfather who fought on the battlefield with his son left would have been very painful.
_"In the streets and in the pubs, drunk off their minds, they would mock each other until they were blue in the face. But on the field of battle they were brothers in arms. Sons of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland resting in the mud as heroes"_ No one famous said this, it was the words of an unsung hero who you've never heard of. He was no one significant, he was just another man. Another lad who saw the glimmer and glory in fighting for his nation. I found the writing fading on an old crumbling tombstone in a graveyard in a rural England village while exploring the countryside. The simple yet poetic words of a heroic man from the heart of England. Rest in peace Will J. Owensmith (the name of the soldier on the tombstone). 1923 - 1944.
“I have glimpsed another world. A world where humanity shines brightly. Rising from the ashes of these dark times Burning with hope. It illuminates a path through this wreckage. A path to somewhere better.”
My grandpa used to always tell me stories about WW2, life growing up, how very little he had as a kid. He used to walk 15 miles just to go see my grandma when they were young, and how he was in a pilot episode for a western tv show that never took off. I miss him, and my grandma dearly, and I miss listening to his stories. He was a great story teller.
For some odd reason, this is what comes to my head. *Perspective on RAF fighters engaged with the German Luftwaffe, British comms* "Gentlemen, once more into the skies. Once more into the fields, once more do we find ourselves fighting for our right to exist as a nation. Alas, the war to end all wars has passed, but do not let that distract you from what it is at the door. Men in France have gone before us and none have come home the same way they left, and the lucky ones faded in the battlefield. But now is not the time to mourn these men, as those who did come home, come to deliver a simple message. Let the message beat into your hearts as I say, "They come in the skies, they come for our home, and they come for the beloved crown. Defend the homeland, please." Defend the land we must, and we shall. We will defend for God, King, and Country *Have this in the mindset of a briefing situation or an intense air battle that you would see in a movie* Sorry if it sounds cringy lol. Edit: Fixed God, *King*, and Country. I had Queen instead of King.
@@issadahdal513 To be honest this would be good but i can imagine, British Soldier's and German Soldier's suddenly stop fighting once they stare at something like the picture in the video. They stare at the landscape seeing the beauty of the land and decide to stop fighting.
From Portugal. I salute every nation and soldier who fought in this war. May our countries be forever free and independent, friendly and prosperous. I salute you all.
In memory to my grand father who fought in WW2 as part of the 101st airborne. He was one of the men trapped in Bastone during the Battle if the Bulge. Sadly, he passed away when in 2000 when I was only a toddler.
I don't care what people say..this game is a good game. Not only that but the music...is really good...this song in particular made me almost cry. It really brings the emotion out. Edit: Wow 179 likes, didn't expect this to happen but i had to say what i had to say.
@George Adept I can imagine like a movie in my head, imagine if your a soldier, fighting for your country and not knowing if your gonna see your family again, i think that's why they put this kinda of songs, in BF1 the soldiers look like badasses, this BF5 is more like how they feel when they we're going to the war
I realised that this piece brings tears to my eyes not only because I am so proud of my country Britain and the sacrifices of our glorious dead, but also because it almost a melancholic and longing nod to a past where Britons had a right to feel proud, patriotic and emotional without fear of condemnation in this modern and judgemental time. Back when the Union Jack wasn't "a far-right symbol". Back when there was a real sense of what you were defending and fighting for, as you sat there in the trench. Respect to them all. God Save the Queen, long live all our Commonwealth brothers who stayed tied with us. We'll always have your back!
My family fought in both world wars, my great grandfather fought and died in france 1916, my grandfather fought in the second and lived he was a sergeant major, I'll Always remember their sacrifices.

Folks , gather for a final salute to Battlefield V . Even though it had problems , it was a game which had potential and was enjoyable much at times . I think we should for now at this moment , appreciate the game for what it is and not hate it for what was not . From Iwo Jima to Devastation , from Operation Underground to Narvik we shall cherish the moments we had . Although the game's support is ending , the player base , even if lesser in numbers , will continue to PTFO . See you all on the Battlefield !
I still remember Flight Of The Pigeon, Lacrimosa, Dawn Of A New Time, Battlefield One, Avanti Savoia, and so many others from the BF1 ost, now coming to bf 5, it feels good to remember this ost
This is the song I think about when I have the time to take a minute away from my military life, especially getting a letter from home. It reminds you of the value of peace and why I fight for it.
Rest now, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. One can only hope to achieve half the dedication you showed through a life of service to your people.
The German soldiers were just following orders, protecting their country. Most had nothing to do with the Nazis. Rommel even tried to kill Hitler. Don't blame the Werhmacht for the high officials
dice does a lot that we dont appreciate enough. and that is why battlefield has such a great community. because its core is the type of players who stay loyal specifically because we do appreciate stuff like this song.
When I hear this song, I imagine my medic on the UK side, after a battle, sitting in a heap of used bandages with other used items strewn about the floor, and just humming this song sort of like a half dead zombie. Yeah it sounds cringy but if you put yourself in those shoes, you feel like you’re there, and it’s really eye opening to know that that’s how a lot of medical personal had to have felt after fighting for a person’s life.
They were brave, and did their duty well...I've read on their service here in Australia...and a lot of nations thought for a country and conflict not their own...but they stood up anyways, and played their part well

I met a 88 year old man at a military show who used to be a corpsman (somewhat of a frontline medic) in the pacific in lansing MI, I talked to him for around 15 minutes asking questions. very nice and totally fine with answering anything. one question i asked him “what’s the number 1 thing that stuck with you after the war” his response “all of the ones i tried save, i was the last person they ever saw” These men were legends and always will be!
There’s just something about this that just brings me to tears. Especially in the prologue and Epilogue. It just makes you feel something. Truly astonishing.

Lest we forget all those who sadly lost their life's during both WW1 and WW2 from all nations, ethnicities and backgrounds on all sides of the war. You fought for your countries, you fought to stop the conflict but most importantly you fought to ensure a greater future for generations to come and you fought to prevent such an atrocity from ever happening again to ensure that your children and your childrens children would never have to go through/be part of such a horrific event in the future, and for that we are all eternally grateful and thankful. Even though you have sadly gone whilst fighting for your country, for your families and for the future of many generations to come, you will all never ever be forgotten for such efforts, and you will all always remain forever in our hearts ❤️❤️ R.I.P. and God bless to all those who we lost during the wars and other conflicts and battles both past and present, and God bless to those who have lost somebody due to war/conflict, remember that you are not on your own, you never will be as those you have lost will always be watching and looking down to help guide you on the path to your dreams, it's up to you whether you follow that path ❤️ God bless everyone ❤️❤️
Whenever I see a soldier in a ww2 film or something similar I never think if they are bad guys or good guys. I think of them as a soldier fighting for their country and you should always respect that

I remember this playing at the festival of remembrance as veterans all came and saluted their fallen comrades followed by a single Dunkirk veteran who Timmy knowledge has now sadly passed away

My Grandad's Father. Who was a in command of Australian and British Forces in North Africa. He led charges against Rommel's DAK in the sandy dunes including The Siege of Tobruk and El Alamein. Sadly he lost many great men during the campaign. Close friends to comrades. My Grandad told me that after the War he was never the same and he never talked to him since then. My Grandad had photos of Him and his Dad ever since he was born. Including Photos of him in North Africa. But fortunately when I flew over to England with my Grandad. He took me and my family to his Father's Graveyard. and On his grave were Medals. including a Victoria cross. On his Grave also was his Favorite Books, flowers, a picture of his Wife and finally. A holy bible... My Grandad knelt down and cried. He murmured something I couldn't hear. But as he stood up. I walked up to him and look at the Grave. I said to my Grandad: "I'm sorry." I then turn to the grave. I saluted and said: "God Bless." Alongside me was my Grandad doing the same.
I had a great great grandfather who participated in the second world war, he was a submarine chaser ensuring the supplies reached out to the Frontline escorting the boats across the Atlantic, I make a salute to him by writing this comment and a respectful salute to all of your family members who died or participated in that war protecting our freedom (or on the axis) their country and family, making a harsh sacrifice to ensure we can have a better future, respect to all the service all of your families made and I wish you and your families all peace and happiness, much gratitude and respect, to the sacrifices they made for their countries, their families, our freedom, and the lesson they gave us to remember for the future, may war only remain in the history books and not the future and present so we can learn from their mistakes they made for a better future may we prosper and accept, to all readers of this comment, thank you 🙏
Pvt .joe poucette never saw the snow on the great plains again, this man was my great grandfather who was the only warrior from my reservation to go and fight. This wasn’t our war the elders told him but he didn’t listen, I never understood why he went but one day when the curator takes me home I shall then understand why he went to go and fight in the war in Europe.
This song is so beautiful for a first person shooter. The kid sounds so innocent and when he sings about heaven's army just makes me tear up every time.
I bought Battlefield V and finished the single player part, the story didn't touch me too much, but in the epilogue, when the song was rising, I cried like a baby and I don't know why. It seems like I forget something I loved, but my heart still remember...
The emotion you feel when you first open the game, and you are passing from battle to battle, dying each time, and eventually ending this song as it has quotes and stuff trailing by. It is very emotional.

"The real lasting victories are those of peace, not of war". Even just the damaged pride of a soldier on the losing side in the first war, is what contributed to putting him on the path to starting another one.
My great-great-grandfather died of hunger and cold in Leningrad, blocked by Finno-Nazi forces. This was told to me by my great-grandmother, who survived the war and siege of Leningrad and survived until 2011. She would not want this to happen again. Thanks to all our allies from the grateful peoples of the former Soviet Union for their help in the fight against brown plague. Never forget.
The song is full of promise. Remembering those who fought for peace. But now the youth takes things for granted and insult their origin. It breaks my heart to live through this times.
There's this old museum called March Airforce base I visited once and it was probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Old planes showing of their glory days, uniforms decorated with honor from their time, bomber jackets showing those who came home and those who flew forever. It was dual of somber moment and beauty seeing these planes have been restored and brought here, I even got to see them bring in another war veteran the b-25 Mitchell. Finally shaking the rust off that old bird.
Who knew a FPS game could bring out the humanity in people through a soundtrack? All these people telling their stories of their past ones, or how this touched them, did so because they heard in-game song. DICE has a gift man. And I’ll suppose I’ll join in. My Great Uncle Woody Ivy was a big bearded man, with from what I know the thickest Irish accent you could imagine. I’ve only seen pictures, towering over everyone, from the bartender to his comrades. He died fighting in the First World War, at twenty seven. He‘d married two years prior, and his first son born months before he left. He’d supposedly always say “Aye, ye got one life tah live. Tah hell when it’s over. Make it memorable, cos then it don’t stop livin.” And we’ve got those words exactly printed and framed in our living room. Wish I could’ve met the guy. All I’ve learned from him is to be a genuine, charming person. Not one person disliked him. I find it amazing that this song made me think of him so deeply. Seriously kudos to EA for such a remarkable franchise, and my gratefulness for Great Uncle Woody and those that died on the battlefields.
That story just brought tears to my eyes. And I don't mean this in a sarcastic or mocking way. Absolutely genuine. Thanks for sharing that story. May your Great Uncle rest in peace and watch over all of your family from above.
My great grandfather on my mother’s side was an American Paratrooper. His glider was shot down above France and everyone on board died in the crash except him. When Germans came to check for survivors, he played dead and they overlooked him. Later in the war, he was supposed to clear a building with his company, but it was rigged to explode by the Germans. He figured that out and ran out the back of the building while everyone else ran out the front. When the building exploded his friend didn’t see him come out and he thought he was dead for the rest of the war. After the war his friend came to my great grandfather’s house with flowers to tell his wife that he was killed in an explosion, but my great grandmother replied with “he’s not dead, he’s eating breakfast!” On my father’s side, my great grandfather fought for the German army. I don’t know very much about him, but I know his plane was shot down over the Mediterranean during the African campaign, his plane went down in the sea and they never found him. Sorry this was so long, but if you read the whole thing I appreciate it!
I was born in Bedford Virginia, 2003. My elementary school was literally down the hill from the D-Day memorial, I visited it once my whole life and that was the summer of 4th grade, that was the best summer of my life and all I can do is thank the many soldiers who were etched into that memorial, in a be honest, I'm a huge history nerd and if I could go back to any time for even a few seconds, it would be D-Day, just so I could have even the slightest feeling of bravery those men had. P.S. sorry for the book long comment

"The Ode" mate well said
My great grandfather fought in ww2 in the german Wehrmacht in many battles including Stalingrad. He, his wife and son were hiding a jewish woman inside their House for the entirety of the war.
He was shattered by a grenade on the frontline and half his body was penetrated by Grenade fragments. Even tho he survived I never got the Chance to talk to him as he died before I was born.
Thomas Jackson how the fuck is any of that funny??
@@thomasjackson6971 you know, you shouldn't be here. Your not mature enough to talk about this.
Your great grand father was an honorable man...I salute him for not ratting out that family,I'm sure he was a good man
he fought in Stalingrad and survived?? OMG respect
That didn't felt good for sure.
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell”

I had a great great grandfather who served in the U.S. Army during world war 2. Based off what my grandma told me, he was the sole reason why her and the rest of my family was able to come to America from the Philippines. He was deployed to the beaches of Normandy. He was supposedly killed there as they found his dog tag around the beach, but his body was never identified. He was declared M.I.A. The only way I remember him now is a picture of him and his dog tag in a frame.
He was a fighting Filipino. They will always fight for freedom.

This is a British patriotic song. Lyrics to the parts that were sung:
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.
The "country" refers to Heaven, the "King" refers to God. This song fits perfectly. As the soldiers fighting in the war died, they went the Heaven, hence the part about "soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase". Beautiful song.
Thanks for explaining, bud.

May ‘flights of angels sing thee to thy rest’.
God bless the Queen, God save the King.
God bless her majesty. God save the King.
He’d supposedly always say
“Aye, ye got one life tah live. Tah hell when it’s over. Make it memorable, cos then it don’t stop livin.”
And we’ve got those words exactly printed and framed in our living room.
After the war his friend came to my great grandfather’s house with flowers to tell his wife that he was killed in an explosion, but my great grandmother replied with “he’s not dead, he’s eating breakfast!”
On my father’s side, my great grandfather fought for the German army. I don’t know very much about him, but I know his plane was shot down over the Mediterranean during the African campaign, his plane went down in the sea and they never found him.
Sorry this was so long, but if you read the whole thing I appreciate it!
SteveSaysBye / Pearl Hurlbutt May he rest in peace and I thank him and all his friends and comrades for their services
