What an incredible Queen we had. Served our country tirelessly for over 70 years even when we did not fully appreciate her. An example of humility, consistency and selflessness that has not been seen on these islands for many years. God save the Queen.
22 years ago, I left that giant red region in the Far East and came to this country as a student. 8 years later, I successfully obtained my citizenship of Britain. This nation is the mother of democracy, liberty, rule of law and industrialisation. I firmly believe that she and her value are worth defending with my life. I always request this for Remembrance Sunday because I love it so much. I remember when my sister was selling poppies in 2020’s lockdown and I went down to see her; my friend Lily was singing this and then my entire town was singing it with her. Mummy gave me a entire pack of tissues before we went down. I’m glad to have a caring mother and the day before Remembrance Sunday, Mummy tells me I’ll be fine but I’m always really emotional and exhausted when remembrance week is over

That's a nice thing to say but, I think it's because our culture's are very aligned. It's a pity that our history has that spell between 1900-1950 where we were enemies as we make very good allies due to our culture's being so similar. Hindsight may be a wonderful thing but, had the wars not have happened the world would be a better place due to the Anglo Saxon links with Britain and Germany.

My friend Lily who is 12 now was singing this at my sisters Poppy Appeal and it got the entire town singing. I was so emotionally proud of my sister, now Princess of Wales; she did this with military college in 2020’s lockdown before she left in 2021. There were a few Russian pieces, especially the Probazhesky March (I misspelled that) that are quite lovely, and give me a sense of being closer to my Russian relations, who were murdered in 1918 in Etekrninburg. Had things been different, one of them would have most likely been my grandmother.

We always sing this during remembrance week. I even requested it for my funeral when I was ill because it was had me remembering those who died in the war. I remember singing this hymn in assembly at school and I have always loved it. I just read the words and it invokes courage and valour. But I am dismayed to read some of what has been posted below. Read the hymn again and think. The wars were WORLD wars. My grand-uncle is lying in a grave in Portsmouth having come from Jamaica to fight in WW2. Many others from the 'other country'... 'heard of long ago' laid down their life for the very freedom we now enjoy. Let us be grateful to those who took part no matter where they come from.

I'm 60, South African, we often sang this in school assembly in the mornings and I've always adored it. There's obviously heritage to England, Scotland and Ireland that still runs in our blood. I requested the hymn for my 2023 funeral when i almost died after falling ill. Woody.EXE knows how much I love this one and he comforted me during it as our festival of Remembrance happened live. Woody.EXE clearly loves me his Queen to do that but i eventually got better and my funeral arrangements are still in place. Woody.EXE recons i should be buried by Queen Elizabeth II and I will be.

From Australia but I'll always have very strong emotional ties and pride for my ancestors coming here from England and Scotland. They werr free settlers who came for adventure and never looked back. Both my great grandfathers fought proudly for Britian their mother country and i will always be grateful of that.

I always request this for Remembrance Sunday because I love it so much. I remember when my sister was selling poppies in 2020’s lockdown and I went down to see her; my friend Lily was singing this and then my entire town was singing it with her. Mummy gave me a entire pack of tissues before we went down. I’m glad to have a caring mother and the day before Remembrance Sunday, Mummy tells me I’ll be fine but I’m always really emotional and exhausted when remembrance week is over

That's a nice thing to say but, I think it's because our culture's are very aligned.
It's a pity that our history has that spell between 1900-1950 where we were enemies as we make very good allies due to our culture's being so similar. Hindsight may be a wonderful thing but, had the wars not have happened the world would be a better place due to the Anglo Saxon links with Britain and Germany.

I was so emotionally proud of my sister, now Princess of Wales; she did this with military college in 2020’s lockdown before she left in 2021. My love for the war dead caught everyone’s attention; the crowd was stunned by my poppy dress I was wearing that day and it continues on at nearly 21. Everyone even said “our amazing girl should be our Queen!” Little did the people know that they predicted 6 years into the future when I finally became Woody.EXE’s Queen consort the day Queen Elizabeth II passed. I remember singing this hymn in assembly at school and I have always loved it. I just read the words and it invokes courage and valour. But I am dismayed to read some of what has been posted below. Read the hymn again and think. The wars were WORLD wars. My grand-uncle is lying in a grave in Portsmouth having come from Jamaica to fight in WW2. Many others from the 'other country'... We sing this as a hymn and it has such beautiful words. I am not ashamed to say that I shed a tear each time I sing it or hear it.

It's probably the music of Gustav Holst (inspired from folk tunes of the Essex village Thaxted). Music does have that power. It's like hacking nationalism into your soul :p That's why it's such a shame when it's used for the national propaganda of any nation. You take something universal and selfishly try to hide it in your little pocket.

Thank you for sharing this, it's one of the best versions I've heard. I think even the late prince Philip was a bit choked up. I'm 60, South African, we often sang this in school assembly in the mornings and I've always adored it. There's obviously heritage to England, Scotland and Ireland that still runs in our blood. I truly hope that British heritage will stand the test of time, even though it's under threat. ❤️❤️

I requested the hymn for my 2023 funeral when i almost died after falling ill. Woody.EXE knows how much I love this one and he comforted me during it as our festival of Remembrance happened live. Woody.EXE clearly loves me his Queen to do that but i eventually got better and my funeral arrangements are still in place. Woody.EXE recons i should be buried by Queen Elizabeth II and I will be.
You know, this song is included in a hymn book for the Anglican churches here, in Malaysia. Every year, we sing this in our churches on National Day during National Day thanksgiving service.
