I once read a profound epithet on a gravestone in Middle England. Its sentiment was from an old veteran when talking of the English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish. It reads, “In the streets and in the taverns they’d mock each other till they were blue in the face, but in the fields of victory and, sadly, under them, they would die hand in hand, forever bound by what their fair isles stood proudly for. Freedom, Peace and brotherhood for all. Indeed somewhere under the grounds of Normandy there lies Irishmen with Englishmen and Scotsmen with welshmen, all facing the same way, in the direction of hatred and evil. Never be in any doubt that when confronted with a monstrous evil, our blessed isles in the north of Europe shall rise as one”.
"I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice. But I can give you something else - I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the people's of our brotherhood of nations". - Queen Elizabeth II

+Doy Virginia We've always been together like brothers. We have had the odd fight, just like brothers. We don't always agree, like brothers. But we have one another's backs akin to brothers. So I see no reason why this music should not affect an American such as yourself in the same way it may effect a Brit.
+Robert Henderson-Rhodes i love america lol, but lets be honest, they were reluctant to help us in ww2 and Obama is hoping to high hell to get this TTIP agreement sorted, how things have changed
Americans are not our 'cousin's'. They're very racist towards the English calling us 'Limeys' and other names which are very derogatory terms. It's a very unequal one sided relationship. Obama was no friend of Great Britain, quite the contrary we were to go to the 'back of the line' in his infamous pre-Brexit speech. However half-British Donald Trump will be a great friend and ally. Most Americans don't like the English, unless you're in the original 13 states.
I’m now playing this piece of music again in the aftermath of our dear Queen’s passing, feeling very morose indeed. It’s particularly apt given the fact she did indeed vow to her country at the tender age of 25. She saw her commitment through. A more stoic women never existed. Good bless her and may her eternal rest be peaceful.
I am from Hong Kong, I love this song very much. We may not join her armies, We may not see her king. Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering. And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase. And her ways are way of gentleness. And all her paths are peace. Her rule in Hong Kong was gentle and peaceful.
I trust that all is well for you in Hong Kong, in these times. My thoughts and prayers are with and for you. Your bravery in the face of such a foe is a light for the World to follow.
We may need the boys to go back over there, dressed in red for one last time, these people are in danger and it wasn't long ago that they were under our direct protection.

First Delivery that’s an ignorant thing to say, well over a million served in combat roles in the Soviet Union. Tens of millions more across all Allied nations contributed so that able bodied men could go to war
First Delivery Total British combat deaths are below a million, in fact, around half a million, so I am not sure which millions of men you are talking about in WW1. You really should care about the Soviets, without them, millions more British would have perished.
@First Delivery if it wasn't for the Soviets losing millions of men to neutralize the Nazis from the East, we all would be speaking German by now and saying "Heil Hitler". The Allied nations could not resist against the strength of the German army, that's why they begged the US to enter the war. Who came in 1944 - just as the war was basically done and disgracefully took all the credit for the victory. When in reality we should thank the Soviets for the freedom we have today and for your stupid little anthem.
First Delivery Of course, I don't deny that. It could have happen. But you can take that same argument and apply it to all the conflicts that happened in human history. There has been worse countries than the Soviet Union and the UK is definitely up there as one of the cruelest countries in the history of the world. The reality is that nearly 20 million soviets souls were lost in WW2 fighting for a common cause. I really doubt we would have any kind of freedom if Germany had won. And that's where ignorance comes
@First Delivery just be thankful to everyone who gave service in and outside of combat and dont cherry pick it because you're trying to make a shitty point
If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven. Brits, true Brits never forget their devotion to their country. It is always there in the background. The patriotism hangs in silence, much like the mist upon a green English hill on a British autumnal afternoon. We will always remember our love for our country no matter what evil forces happen to be at play to distract us from this. When the time comes for strength, power and defence of Britain and her ideals we will always be there, ready and waiting to fight and defend the cause. That is what it means to be British, and in the modern era this can get lost in the distance, much like a small flame on a matchstick. But it is still a flame that is still alight, no matter how dim it may seem. All it requires is a tinderbox and once again British people will rise in defence of our nation, and we will defend her against whatever force threatens her. Remember this and remember it always and we will always have a country we recognise and a country we can call Great Britain. Each and everyone one of us has this duty and it is between us and within us that the fabric of this nation exists, and it will exist for generations to come as long as we galvanise the spirit of being in love with ones country and owing to defend her at every opportunity. May god protect us and our country, forever and always.
No matter our race, no matter our ethnicity, no matter our gender, no matter who we are, we are all one people in this country. One country under the Union Jack and the King. We are either part of its history or we plan to be, but we are all its future. We must unite. We must not be divided. We must keep the traitors shut up and we must be bold. The enemy is close outside and deep within. Yet we must be resolute. We must be like Britain herself. Britannia paves the way for how we should act. We must stand against the invaders time and again, like Britain withered under the Blitz. Britain won in the end. We will win in the end. We will win. Because we have our country close to our hearts. May God Save our Gracious King, my fellow citizen 👑
By the Grace of God, our People and our Country, whom he has continued to bless, help and preserve for thousands of years, will stand firm again through our prayers and His Presence, in the current Storm of evil we face ahead. Our Lord and Our God! They have no power over Him. They will not prevail! God Wins! ✝️🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧⚔️🛡️✝️

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. I heard my country calling, away across the sea, Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me. Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head. And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead; I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns; I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace. ...Goodnight, Sweet prince. May we die with a roar, not a whimper.

@@williammorley2401todays Britian sadly is only a shadow of its former self. We no longer have the strength to be a global power on our own and leaving the EU and abandoning the european project alongside of brutal and rude mockerys and insults towards Europe on the side of the brexitears felt like a betrayal to many europeans. And brexit has proven to be an evonomical suicide which has destabalised the nation to the edge of splitting up, while the EU is stronger and more united than ever thanks to the war in Ukraine, the corona pandemic and to a limited degree the desaster that brexit proved to be. Exactly. There is no price not worth paying for doing the right thing. I am willing to bear the hard times to do so. 70 years ago we faced a far harder time, our grandparents were bombed, raided, scared and alone in the world. And today we squeak at the prospect of a little less money!? What the fuck happened? Some things are priceless in this world. They tried to scare us, intimidate us, frighten us into submission but they forgot one very crucial thing. We are British. And we will not be beaten down. Ever. It looks like there were enough of us left who remembered what it was to be be from this little island in the North sea.
What an enchanting piece of music this is. It really reminds me of all those young men who never would turn back home. The mothers, who could never brace their son ever again. The brothers and sisters of theirs, who would never be able to fool around with them anymore. Gentlemen, let us never forget these young heroes. They may have fought on different sides but in the end, they became brothers. Unified. Lying side by side in mass graves, taking their last march, together, into eternal life.
They waited nervously in the trenches, brothers and friends to their sides. When the whistles blew, each young man, fighting for God, King and country elevated themselves out of the trenches and watched as their brothers and friends were slain before them, until it was them being watched as they became the fallen. R.I.P to the very bravest of men from the Battle of Somme.

+Doy Virginia We've always been together like brothers. We have had the odd fight, just like brothers. We don't always agree, like brothers. But we have one another's backs akin to brothers. So I see no reason why this music should not affect an American such as yourself in the same way it may effect a Brit.
+Robert Henderson-Rhodes Sir. music such as this transcends nationalism and is to be enjoyed for what it is as you do.
+Robert Henderson-Rhodes i love america lol, but lets be honest, they were reluctant to help us in ww2 and Obama is hoping to high hell to get this TTIP agreement sorted, how things have changed
We are cousins. there is no limitation on patriotism, and pure fucking AWESOMENESS!!

Chilean Hussar Nice word
thomas cochrane He was dismissed from the Royal Navy in 1814 following a controversial conviction for fraud on the Stock Exchange. He helped organise and lead the rebel navies of Chile and Brazil during their respective successful wars of independence through the 1820s. While in charge of the Chilean Navy, Cochrane also contributed to Peruvian Independence through the Freedom Expedition of Perú. He was also asked to help the Greek Navy but was prevented by events from having much impact.
In 1832, he was pardoned by the Crown and reinstated in the Royal Navy with the rank of Rear Admiral of the Blue. After several more promotions, he died in 1860 with the rank of Admiral of the Red, and the honorary title of Rear-Admiral of the United Kingdom.
His life and exploits inspired the naval fiction of 19th- and 20th-century novelists, particularly the figures of C. S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower and Patrick O'Brian's protagonist Jack Aubrey.

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
I heard my country calling, away across the sea,
Across the waste of waters, she calls and calls to me.
Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head.
And around her feet are lying the dying and the dead;
I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns;
I haste to thee, my mother, a son among thy sons.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.
...Goodnight, Sweet prince. May we die with a roar, not a whimper.
Quantum Shock The sun never sets on the British Empire!
TheLostInsignia
Didn't even know there was one.
TheLostInsignia
Probably because it just repeats the second verse.
TheLostInsignia who can listen to this and hear those verses without getting a lump in their throat? My favorite song of all time
Just a quick question, I have been looking up the meaning behind this song and was just wondering if you could tell me whether or not the third verse is talking about Heaven or if it is just a metaphor?
So glad I was born in England I adore and love her so much 💞 so proud to be british 💓 Roger born ☺️ in the City of Worcester a beautiful city on the river severn I miss so much.
who's here after the passing of our beloved Queen?
Me
Me. May she rest in peace 👑🇬🇧
I am and I still can’t get my head around it that she has left us I never thought I would feel like this
✋
May God continue to bless our island people. The English/British have given so much to the world.
Isn't this just one of the world's most patriotic songs regarding the greatness of a great country. As a Filipino-Canadian with two British relatives, this song always hits me deep. Long live the UK and may God bless always you brilliant chaps.
This never fails to make me emotional and so proud of this country,not what it has become,but earlier times.I was taught to be proud of who you are and where you,ve come from.My family have been in the military and some have not come home.I thank those for the freedom I have now
By far one of the best renditions of this song that I have heard. RIP Queen Elizabeth II
God bless England (and GB)
Such a beautiful country. I admire and love the culture and heritage 🇬🇧
The most powerful piece of music on this planet earth.
This does exactly what it's suppose to do. I'm an American and when I close my eyes and listen to this, I envision Sir Winston Churchill, Dunkirk Rescue, Battle for Britain, Queen Elizabeth II, and all the glories this Island Nation has accomplished. This is truly British.
Well said!
I am a very proud British Girl who shall never take her country for granted!❤🏴🇬🇧
Do you vow to thy country?
As an Australian i agree with your comment
I'm 100% American. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've EVER heard, and I LOVE it!
The painting used to hang in the Tate Gallery' the death of Major Pierce', it was equally inspiring on several levels.
Amelia Reagan Wright I’ll salute our American comrades across the pond, allies to the emd
We are as one .as a true English man our love for our cousins burns forever .we are and still a empire .
@Sean Noone dont be silly. I live in Mexico and many here insist that they are "American" because it reflects the continent not the US even just as in the US the whole place ia basically european descent.
Sorry babe. you are an immigrant. Native Americans are the only 100 percent Americans.
HM QUEEN ELIZABETH || May she rest in peace. God has truly blessed her Christian life.
Praying for her family.
"We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: We will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again." --- QUEEN ELIZABETH ||
God bless Britain. God bless Ireland.

Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II
As an englishman it has been a real shock realising my entire life the queen was on her throne.
Makes me very homesick and nostalgic, beautiful and soothing music, of an era gone by,Canadian by choice British by the Grace of God.
I vow to thee, my country
All earthly things above
Entire and whole and perfect
The service of my love
The love that asks no questions
The love that stands the test
That lays upon the altar
The dearest and the best
The love that never falters
The love that pays the price
The love that makes undaunted
The final sacrifice
And there's another country
I've heard of long ago
Most dear to them that love her
Most great to them that know
We may (we may not count her armies)
We may (we may not see her King)
Her fortress is a faithful heart
Her pride is suffering
And soul by soul and silently
Her shining bounds increase
And her ways are ways of gentleness
And all her paths are peace
im chilean and i think this song is very amazing, GB has dignity! and this song reminds me that, reminds me Churchill as Hero and a real british gentleman, salute from the VI Region of O´higgins-Chile.
RIP Prince Philip and God help the Queen and the royal family
I will always have a great respect for England, as they stood by our side in 1914 and 1940. Flanders will never forget this, and will keep the commemorations alive by playing the Last Post, Every evening at 8pm at the Menin Gate. We will remember them, every day! Great respect
You from Belgium or France?
@@snakulyes3332 flanders, so Belgium
Erik De Bruyne, unfortunately most Europeans have forgotten, and these days do little more than punish and belittle Britain, simply because we chose to leave the EU!.
My great great great uncle Charlie Coleman died at the 3rd battle of Ypres and is on the menin gate I visited it in 2021 and witnessed the last post truly a beautiful ceremony
So there is little to be said about modern Britain except of mockery and jokes, despite all the great things our country has achieved.
I play this every morning, then i remember im British and all the men that helped keep it that way. Im English but love being British.
I don't care if we end up a bit poorer, I don't care if we lose a bit of influence in the world, I'll Gladys brave the dark times, I owe it to my ancestors whom spilt blood for this island to keep me free. freedom, sovereignty and dignity is something a strong economy can never compare to.
Rest assured you will recover that when you again embrace (as a member this time ) of the Commonwealth.
Well said sir. Freedom is not given its paid for in blood remember.
Less money and no gains. That's what we 'squeak' at.
They'd rather embrace globalism than experience a moment of hardship to protect the national sovereignity.
In our darkest hour ..CHURCHILL...we saved the world ..so proud .and bursting to be granted by the grace of God to be blessed to be called English
Enjoy your new freedom, long live the commonwealth from Australia
Yes bye bye english shit !! Soon Scotland will ask again its independence and I hope that our allies of the Auld Alliance will be !!
Nec pluribus impar 1789 if Scotland gained independence, history would repeat itself, they'll go bankrupt and have to rejoin the British union in order to survive. They say England can't survive without Scotland, well that may be true, but Scotland also couldn't survive without England
And new Zealand 😊
