For me it's CoD2 and United Offensive. In WaW the Soviet campaign was ridiculous. Our dude survives literally everything from floods and annoyingly frequent explosions. I also love how the Russians dare to talk about the Germans raping women when they were waaay more notorious about that in every country they "liberated".
The writing, music, level design, unapologetic gore, and war crimes, it's literally undeniably the best. The Tanks weren't even that bad, and could be easily countered in multiplayer.
In my opinion, the best part about this game is the fact it DOESN’T take place in the Western Front. The developers knew that side of the war was done to death, so they made the brilliant decision to only cover the Pacific Theatre and the Eastern Front, which are less familiar, had more vile and atrocious conditions and were fought with extremely-motivated soldiers. This allowed World at War to be MUCH more memorable and unique than any other COD or WW2 FPS and, as a result, it is easily in the top ten best FPS games of all time.
The main reason for the soviet campaign was that they wanted to show the dark side of the war because most of the ww2 shooter are like movies with the bad Germans and the American hero's. They don't wanted to show the US Army commit war crimes ore something thats why they chose the Russians They show how the soviet army kills prisoners and soldiers which are trying to surrender But in the USA campaign they don't show this The USA did a lot of horrible things during the pacific theater but beside the flamethrower level they didn't show any of them they did it like they always did and show the American hero's

April 30, 1945: When he first spoke of Dimitri, Reznov told tales of a hero, someone we should all aspire to be like. At times, I have seen him show mercy, and at others, complete brutality. I do not understand him. Perhaps heroes need not question their actions. >If showing both mercy and brutality. The last one is the most interesting: April 30, 1945: When he first spoke of Dimitri, Reznov told tales of a hero, someone we should all aspire to be like. His merciless brutality defines him only as a savage, just like the rest of the Red Army. He is no hero. >If doing complete brutality were made such as giving your reznov position by shooting at german soldiers that are attacking your comrades and let your comrades burn and suffer the surrendering German soldiers.

The most cruel in the whole saga. Showing real footage of kills and mutilations of that period during the loading screen was pretty savage. The golden era of videogames, where knowledge, showing the true human behavior and entertainment were the main purpose of the developers.
Personally I think BO1 is the best in the series overall because of what it turned zombies into, the brilliant narrative it developped and stuff on multiplayer like gun game and wager matches but WAW is definitely the best and most immersive WW2 game of all time and its not even close. 13 years on and even though WW2 is a theme that has been completely exhausted by any entertainment industry (even by the call of duty series) this is still the best game ever made of it and I seriously doubt any game could beat it
I’ve always loved that part about the song, truly makes it feel like a descent into the madness that is humanity in its darkest hours, it’s a nice contrast with the song being in Latin, the dead language of one the largest empires to ever exists the crumbled to the very essence of human nature. A brutal legacy that paints over misery and horror with tales of triumph and heroism.
Playing this game as a 15y.o. seeing the brutality of war, Reznov pushing you on, the tanks rolling through Berlin as the German soldiers run for their lives, the bodies hanging from lamp posts... This game probably had one of the largest impacts on forming my world views and how I view war and morality today as an adult. - It did such a good job depicting the horrors of the time, and thanks to this amazing piece of music, it was all the more unforgettable!
Same , I played it as 14 yo and until now I still think of how heavy was it impact on my orientations it was perfect specially the soundtracks it was glorious with the full word meanings
Indeed, especially the symbolism and philosophical nature of this game makes this definitely one of the best games of all time for me. And at that era as well
Same here, war stopped being some far off thing where people die and became something I actually saw with my own eyes, in an abstract way of course but still far more impactful than reading or hearing about it. One of very few games that no longer exist where it’s a true story and you can actually see a guy screaming with his leg blown off from an artillery shell, how dedicated each side was to their cause etc. Took me a while after to actually understand this actually happened and it wasn’t as long ago as it seems. As long as campaigns go by the wayside for multiplayer it’s never going to happen again unfortunately

@@franc3batgame349 another fun fact before waw there was 3 which also takes place in the western front
The main reason for the soviet campaign was that they wanted to show the dark side of the war because most of the ww2 shooter are like movies with the bad Germans and the American hero's. They don't wanted to show the US Army commit war crimes ore something thats why they chose the Russians
They show how the soviet army kills prisoners and soldiers which are trying to surrender
But in the USA campaign they don't show this
The USA did a lot of horrible things during the pacific theater but beside the flamethrower level they didn't show any of them they did it like they always did and show the American hero's

I always loved how you played in one of the missions affected how Chernov describes your character in the beginning of the last campaign.
Player's behavior also affects chernov's different perspective depending on choices either killing or not killing them:
April 30th, 1945: When he first spoke to Dimitri, Reznov told tales of a hero, someone we should all aspire to be like. His bravery on the battlefield is beyond question, but he has also shown mercy amidst the brutality of the Red Army. He is indeed a hero.

The last one is the most interesting:
April 30, 1945: When he first spoke of Dimitri, Reznov told tales of a hero, someone we should all aspire to be like. His merciless brutality defines him only as a savage, just like the rest of the Red Army. He is no hero.

"Mark my words, comrade. Things will change. It will be their people, their land, their blood."

@@riskysurvivor2448 Why lol. They cant add russian failures of the early war or the heavy fighting after Stalingrad but instantly jump into 1945 when the germans had almost no divisiont at the centre front? its dumb as hell.
@@darklysm8345 ah yes! i understand what you are saying. And in terms of that idea i prefer Call of Duty 1 and Call of Duty 2, i even find the missions there more attractive and more fun to play, playing as British, USA and Soviet.
But, what im saying is that (for me, of course, not to all) the US campaign kinda felt like it went more in a CoD1 and CoD2 kind of campaign and the Russian was significantly different (not saying i hated the US campaign, just telling it felt different)
And yes, the Russian campaign could have more Stalingrad and more of Russia before going for Germany
For days I have crept through shadows like a rat. This place once echoed with conversations of friends and lovers. No longer. Mark my words, Comrade... One day things will change. We will take the fight to their land... to their people... to their blood.

Because Treyarch is keen on making the Russians look bad under the behest of the Pentagon.
@@zed9095 Please get you conspiracy theories out of here please
@@kristianorambalack Lol, where's the conspiracy here? A simple google search about the developers and the Pentagon is enough to satisfy my own argument. It's no question why the agenda and the f***cking audacity of the developers is to paint them as the bad guys in Syria, while simultaneusly painting Western proxies, the white helemets included (Jihadists), as the good guys fighting the "occupiers" per se.
who still remembers how fantaaastic this game was even now in 2021
Yup
Just finished the campaign again. Incredible.
