Hi, my name is Michael Nielsen. I'm a composer/producer. I write music for movie trailers, video game soundtracks, commercials, movies and tv shows. That intro song made me feel like I was driving a black Lamborghini Countach at sunset on the Pacific Coast Highway.
🟢CORRECTION: The Huff guitar pickups do NOT split. The "split" is changing from series to parallel. It's different.
Takes me back to my teens, the LA session scene, a wardrobe full of wide shouldered, coloured dress jackets, Giant, James Tyler and Dan Huff virtuosity. Thanks for the nostalgia. 🙏🏻
Will hate the looks of the Tyler headstock forever. Everything else including Michael is A+++ ❤
same, I'm sure they are killer guitars, and i don't get caught up on looks, but that headstock is uninspiring.
Dann did a session for my dad around 1988 he had three Tyler modded Fender Strats.
His rack was a Bradshaw rack using the Rocktron/ Bradshaw RSB 18 which was recently sold after being featured on Tom Bukovacs channel.

Hey guys, whenever Michael says "split" he is in parallel mode. It is still humbucking and no noise. Also it is a different sound that split. On a Studio Elite with a Lead/Rhythm circuit we use switches to do series and parallel as well as split for even more tonal variations.
I thought the neck and middle are single coil? Are they not?
@@gravyblue they're not. They're Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks (stacked humbuckers).

@@gravyblue No, they are stacked single coils. So they have a single coil vibe but they are two coils stacked on each other. That way they are hum cancelling and they can be be wired series and parallel as well as split.

Dan Huff fan all the way back to Whiteheart. The first Giant album hit near the end of the AoR and LA scene. Def a band a lot of people missed out on. Killer player, killer guitar.
This is the Holy Grail and quintessential 1980s 'SuperStrat/LA Studio' guitar tone. Dann HUFF is a living legend as an A-List studio musician) and an A-List Nashville music producer.
I worked with Mike Brignardello, the bassist with GIANT in the studio in Nashville. I played a bit of the intro to I’m a Believer for him and we had a blast. Great band.
Love Dann Huff's tone and everything he did with Giant. Huge Fan. Thank you for this.
I saw Giant live in London, in a small venue, really great. He did a great cover of Jeff Beck's "Cause we ended as lovers"
Re: Dann Huff signature models--- Actually- there were at least 2 Dann Huff named models / signature models etc in the early 90's - one by Schecter and another by PRS. And then in mid / late 90's you could order a black Tyler Classic in standard/custom or either Landau or Huff config...or their Ultimate Weapon model w/ HH Dann Huff-spec pickups. 👍
9.5 Huffs out of 10, all that's missing is a denim jacket and a pair of 80's sneakers.

I was born in 1980, so I've got some memories of the 80's. Sweet memories. The intro jam brought back the best of those feelings.
80s guitar can be translated into a very unique type of expression of musicality. So much so that over time, there was no record of anything that was even remotely similar.
Marked by an overdrive with little saturation and a lot of gain, which is typical in power ballads (see Dan Huff, Adrian Vanderberg, Steve Lukather), a delay that gave the dynamics and most importantly, which I think is the hallmark of the 80s: the chorus.
Chorus as an effect is the hallmark of the 80s. If guitarists didn't know how to use it so well on the bases, especially, it wouldn't be so special. The sparkle effect of the Chorus is what marks the shine of the 80's guitar.

Saved up hard and bought a Burning Water in 2003. Always wanted one after seeing Dann and obviously Mike Landau who were using them. The necks are just sublime. Been my number one for nearly 20 years.

That was the solo to "Look Away" - wasn't it? Fun fact: that song was written by Dianne Warren and originally intended for Europe on their 1989 Out of this world-album. Ron Nevison played it to the band but lead singer Joey Tempest turned it down since he didn't wanna work with outside writers. It was a no.1 single with Chicago instead.
That intro jam was a direct injection of nostalgia.
