Words of wisdom. 20 years ago I was all about the high gain and playing a million notes per minute. Now I spend half the gig on the clean channel and actually play whole notes and rests lol

The one person I would love to learn from the most. Been a fan from Day 1. I remember the Entertainment tonight episode he was on with the vocal coach. Saw Giant Live with Heart. I was 4th row. I sat next a young man who was there with his mom and had Down Syndrome. I was having fun with him rocking out. Dann saw me and threw a guitar pick because he saw what i was doing, so I moved out of the way and it landed in the young man's leg. He was so excited and could not believe it. I was happy for him and Dann saw what I did and smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I never regret it seeing the smile on the young man's face was worth more than anything.
Dann, You have been an influence through the years. Thank you for that and for the music of Giant.

I love what Dann (and the interviewer) said about the relative volume when playing either live or even recording. The set volume really affects my playing and/or at least the perception of my sound…and I tend to play better and more free when the volume is lower or at a more appropriate level. I know it’s an issue of semantics, but gosh that makes so much sense to me and now I feel like I’m not alone! 😅😂🤣😆

I got a pleasant surprise when you mentioned your matchless amplifier. John Jorgenson told me in the 90s to consider getting one. It took me a while to save up for one and I still love it. I even sold my Marshall JCM 800 thanks for this interview. living in Canada, I had to order it from the US and the exchange rate and taxes and duty added over 60% to the cost of the amplifier. I don’t know how or why my wife even let me do it. She is a wonderful person married for 50 years. Please excuse any mistakes here I have to use voice to text. I have loved and respected guitar players like Dan all my life I never had the talent.

the is a cool and sweet story. very nice.
PS: i actually owned one of the very early handwired Samson-era Matchless Chieftain 212 amps. (1996 -ish if i remember correctly) it sounded incredible once turned up a little, so it could breathe but was too loud for most stages even back then. also, it was like carrying 2 car batteries in a suitcase, which just wasn't for me at the time, considering that i played a different club/venue every weekend. regardless, i stupidly traded it for an Alesis ADAT of all things. it was one of the more boneheaded trades i've ever made. it would be worth $$$ now, but hopefully whoever has owned it over the years has enjoyed it. cheers.

@@martydibergi5228 no. i got it thru an acquaintance who worked at Granny's Music Mall in OKC, OK (i ran a music store in western OK all thru the 90s and bought and sold and traded just about all the cool early "boutique" guitars and amps in that time period.) i don't know who the original owner was or where it was originally purchased.
