  • Here are 10 things to consider when planning a skiing or snowboarding trip to Colorado.
    1. Why Colorado 0:20
    Colorado is home to about 28 ski resorts with 16 of the top 20 highest elevation in North America. That means long vertical runs and with colder temperatures, dry fluffy snow that tends to stick around.
    2. Where are the resorts 0:57
    Colorado mountains can be grouped into three areas. Northern, Central and Southwest. Each of these areas can have different weather patterns.
    3. When to visit 1:32
    The snow is best January through mid-March then spring skiing by April.
    stats from OnTheSnow.com
    4. Costs 2:39
    From our experience the cost of a Colorado ski trip is around $500 per person per day. The total cost on average for a 7-day trip for two people is $7,000. Go during off peak times to find deals. The kids can miss a few days of school for shredding.
    5. Lift Tickets 3:16
    The two main passes are Epic Pass and Ikon Pass. Passes go on sale in April and go up in price closer to the start of the season with sales ending early December.

    8. Lodging 8:48
    There are a lot of lodging options. The best time to book hotels for a ski trip is in August, but who plans that far in advance, not me.

    We are thinking to go in Mid December this year for a week, my husband grow up snowboarding me and our daughter just started 2 years ago and I would say we are still beginners, what area in Colorado would you recommend? Some people said try Veil or Winter park for better snow especially in December.

      @snowboardtraveler  Месяц назад

      Mid December can be hit or miss each snow year but all the resorts will be making snow if needed so there will be coverage on beginner and intermediate runs. Winter Park is a solid choice as they are higher elevation and have decent snow by then. It’s large enough to spend a week there. If you want to split the week up, try winter park then Copper. The 4-day ikon session pass would cover both resorts if you go before Dec 26 (black out dates end of Dec). The alternative trip would be Keystone and then you could split it up and also visit Breckenridge or Vail. All 3 are on the epic pass and somewhat close to each other. Based on today’s pricing you can get a 5-day epic pass for similar price as the 4-day ikon session.

    I was thinking to bring my whole family, 6 adults and 3kids. As we are first time ski/snowboarders, What would be the best option in your opinion?

    • @snowboardtraveler

      Where are you visiting from? As first timers are you looking for lessons or just easy beginner terrain along with a decent village for food/ activities?

      @@snowboardtraveler we’re from texas. Don’t think we’ll ever get the chance to do this again so idk about lessons.

      I assume you’re driving up from TX. If you want the big resort experience then Breckenridge and Keystone are good options. Plenty of beginner terrain and lots of activities to do besides skiing. For something off the beaten path one idea is angel fire New Mexico, then Taos NM, and then drive up to purgatory near Durango CO. More mountain driving but less crowded, still decent resorts for beginners.

    So is it not as good to go in early or mid December?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  2 месяца назад +1

      Depends on the snow year and the resort. Runs will likely be limited. Full terrain doesn’t usually open until late Dec or early Jan.

      @@snowboardtraveler do you know a good place to get lessons or do all resorts offer lessons

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  2 месяца назад

      Most if not all offer lessons. Where are you thinking of going? Pricing usually depends on the resort. Aspen is going to be more expensive than Keystone for example for a lesson.
