Mustang Mach-E Charging Curve Update & Speed Test
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 дек 2021
- Our Mustang Mach-E was recently updated to have faster charging speeds above 80% State of Charge. In this video, we test out the new speeds by doing a DC fast charge at Electrify America. Sure enough, the charging is faster above 80%. Watch the video for all of the details!

That update has to make charging WAY better above that 80% mark. Well done Ford, well done.
Makes me want to road trip soon to test it out!
Is this an OTA update or do we have to bring in it to the dealer?
It took 10 months to get our Mach E but during that time, I gathered a lot of good information from watching your videos. Patrick, I just want to thank you and Liz for being pioneers and communicating vital information about the Mach E to make our transition easier to a new technology. Thanks, Jim
Thanks! We have really enjoyed making the videos. We're learning along the way as well. Comments like this really make our day and make the hours we spend creating the videos worthwhile.
Thank you!! This answers a lot of people's questions on what has changed and also brings up a couple of new ones. Great to see that the "cliff" has been softened!
Ford has always said the 10% to 80% time was 45 minutes. Your time of 42 minutes seems the same as before the update so Ford hasn't touched the sub-80% charging.
I'm glad to see Mach-E owners aren't "punished" any more for hanging out past 80%. You & Liv always seem to chat up random folks at chargers and now Blucifer can take better advantage of that time.
New questions would be, is Ford still planning on adjusting the 10-80% speed/time? Is Blucifer's pack still 88kWh or is it now 91kWh?
You know how it is! This car is a magnet for good conversations! I kinda love the communal gathering place of charging stations. I hope they embrace that more and more. I could totally see hanging out with a coffee...having picnic tables...shade...and chatting with everyone charging their sweet EV's! - Liv
Well, of course we miss Ms. Liv! Patrick, thank you for (once again) helping inform those of us who are keen on the Mach-E, even on your last 2021 day off. Happy New Year to you two.
Aww thanks Jack! 💙 Happy New Year to you! - Liv
Thank you for your post. You’ve made it more then ever now that this is my next EV! We’ve had the Focus EV and enjoyed it for what it was, 75 mile range, now we need an upgrade.
Thanks for doing this test and sharing it, Patrick. I noticed a few months back that Ford’s advice is to not regularly charge above 90% (rather than the canonical 80%), but the original charging curve didn’t make that worth doing when we have the car away from home. Now, a few extra minutes at a fast charger seems much more reasonable for more miles! We’re waiting for the roof/windshield repair parts to arrive at Sill-Terhar and will request this software upgrade when we take ours in for that work. And we definitely miss seeing Liv, too!
Aw thanks Vicky!💙 Hope you get this repair AND update soon! - Liv
Got the update while doing the recall. Biggest difference is I can do the same trips, charge for the same amount of time, and go faster!
I don't have to stay in the right lane as much, really glad Ford made this update to go with the recall. Thanks for sharing!
I saw that you guys chimed in during the latest InsideEVs weekly podcast style discussion. Was great seeing you on there. I love that show
We try to watch it live when we can. Usually I have a conference call on Friday mornings but it was cancelled this week. It's a great show.
Love that the charge stays higher above 80%. I took a trip from Harrisburg, PA to Tampa, FL and back. About 2400 miles. No issues with EA chargers. 2 EVgo charges worked and 2 EVgo chargers did not work (very frustrated by EVgo). Blink did not work either. So my next trip is to Tucson, AZ after I get the recall taken care of. Felt very comfortable on the trip to FL so hoping the trip to AZ is going to be a good one.
What an epic road trip! Glad it worked out well for you! I'm curious if you can share what happened with the Blink charging unit? Patrick is actually interviewing them right this second! - Liv
@@MachE_VLOG I was in need of a charge in South Carolina near Columbus. The charger was at a library. Tried to use it but it just did not work. Nobody in the library knew anything about it. Was frustrating. I finally found an EA charger.
Yes of course I miss Liv and her energy she adds to the videos. 4x faster from 80%, that’s excellent. I just saw a Mach E at 82% on an EA station in Paso Robles on Sunday. Driver was MIA, he was getting 12kW as it was pre-update.
Thanks for sharing Patrick.
He must not have gotten the update yet.
Thanks Ron! 💙 - Liv
The OTA fix for this is still not released for GTs or cars built after June 2021. Eagerly awaited. Thanks for another great, informative video.
And, yes, missing Liv!
oh, interesting!
Thanks Eric!! 💙 - Liv
Thanks, nice to see you get a better curve now! Of course we missed you, Liv!
Aww yay! - Liv
Lots of great information as usual and awesome to see the improvements with the software update. MISS YOU LIV!!!!
aww thanks Jeff! 💙 - Liv
Awesome video. Love the data display - very informative, but it's not as entertaining and fun as Liv!
hahah aww thanks Larry!💙 - Liv
Thanks Patrick it makes me feel a little more confident that our coming 2022 will be a good road tripper.
It does help a lot. On most segments we drove last year, we didn't even need to charge to 80% but it will be nice to have the option to go significantly higher at a faster speed.
I just got this update installed, I look forward to testing out the charging speed improvements!
Unless I'm mistaken the Car Scanner app is showing both the power that the charger is delivering to the car and the actual amount being stored into the battery just below that number. Notice that these numbers are widely separated while the battery is cold and the car is burning electrons to heat it up. Once the battery is warm the "EV Charger Power" and "EV/HEV Battery Power" are within about 2% of each other.
Recently Tom Moloughney was in the middle of a charging test kerfuffle regarding charging shown on the EA station and actual battery capacity. This app could have gone a long way toward putting that misunderstanding to bed... maybe. I doubt the app takes into consideration internal cell resistance. How could it? But at least this app gives you an idea of what the car's systems are drawing.
Good video BTW.
I thin you are right. And I remember the kerfuffle Tom had. It was pretty amusing to watch and Tom handled it like a pro.
This is awesome! The one update we were all looking forward to! Defiinitely a good help for my future road trips, once I get my mach-e back from the dealership (still no update from the field engineers on the repairs, yeah i know :( ) and yes! missing Liv! Great video!
Gah hope you get it back soon Merchy! Hopefully I'll be back next video! 😉 - Liv
@@MachE_VLOG thanks Liv! My ford investigator got back to me via email on Monday . she said that the engineers are still working with the technicians on the repairs. Just seems frustrating 😕 but gotta stay humble!
awesome Vid as usual!! makes me like the MAch E even more now.. definitely a solid option if my Lightning reservation doesnt come through any time soon!!!
Thanks! I hard Lightning orders are opening this month. Exciting!
@@MachE_VLOG Supposedly they are, yes. The big fear among everyone is huge dealer mark ups and even dealers get to play favorites now and bump later reservation holders ahead of earlier ones, if the agree to huge mark ups, or even just for being their Friend and being prioritized.. crazy.
Thanks for confirming cruise control is all set from buttons on steering wheel, good to know as was concerned it may be from large screen. No idea why youtube deleted my question though. Thanks again and have subscribed.
Thank you!
Not sure if you are affected, but hope you and Liv are safe from the wildfires. Thanks for the informative video and have a Happy New Year!
Thanks so much for the concern Greg. We are fortunately far from it but our hearts go out to all those affected. Happy New Year to you! 💙 - Liv
Excellent video, Patrick! Give Liv my regards! Once I get my Mach-e back from the body shop, I'll be scheduling an appointment at my Ford dealer for this update! Be interesting to see if you get better range in the winter weather now, too.
Hey Scott! Hope you get your Mach-E back soon! - Liv
Thank you Pat. Great seeing new data. Happy New Year to you and Liv. 🥂
Happy New Year Glen! - Liv
Thanks for the video, I didn't realize there was an update. Unfortunate that it has to be done at the dealer though, I thought Ford was going to do over the air updates? I haven't gone on any real road trips yet in my Mach-e, but hope to in 2022, so I'll need to go get this update beforehand. Keep up the great content, much appreciated!
They have done a few things via OTA so far. From what I understand, this will be an OTA at some point. If take your car in for any warranty issues, they will do this update.
@@MachE_VLOG I actually have the windshield and glass roof recall that needs to be taken care of, so I can get the update when I take it in for that. Have you taken yours in for the recall yet? Thanks for the heads up on the free Electrify America charging this week too!
@@jledge4797 I tried to get the glass recall done, but that dealer couldn't do it yet. I'll schedule to get it done in January or February.
This was really useful indeed, many thanks for doing this
Thanks! It was free, so that worked out well.
I got it as well love it. I really wish they would let us preheat the battery for faster charging to 80% I really don't need 90% typically. But an improvement is an improvement.
Looks much better than the previous charging curve of over 2 hours to charge to 100%. I just wish you went to 100% to see how long it would have taken from 10% to 100% to get the full impact of the improvement over 80%.
We're planning on a 0-100% test soon. I really just had to get back to work for my regular job.
Awesome video and I was wondering where is Liv!! I miss having her there.
Aww💙 Thanks Ossie! - Liv
Looking forward to trying it out on the next cold weather trip to Utah. The ability to go to 90% eliminates the necessity for a short second stop.
Yeah, I won't use it all the time, but it will be useful at times.
It's great to see how the Volts multiplied by Amps = Watts, and how the voltage stays constant at the 360v to 390v range (more as the battery warms) and it's the amperage that throttles down as it gets closer to 100%.
Around 24%: 357.17v * 307A = 109,651W / 𝟭𝟬𝟵.𝟲𝟱𝟭𝗸𝗪
Around 52%: 361.81v * 246A = 89,005W / 𝟴𝟵.𝟬𝟬𝟱𝗸𝗪
Around 80%: 375.77v * 119A = 44,717W / 𝟰𝟰.𝟳𝟭𝟳𝗸𝗪
Because the battery was warmer at 90% and it hadn't started throttling down from the 80% rate for Amps yet, it was charging faster at 90% than it was at 80%!
Around 90%: 383.11v * 123A = 47,122W / 𝟰𝟳.𝟭𝟮𝟮𝗸𝗪
It wasn't until the charge was at 95% that the amperage finally dropped from around the 110A to 120A level to 90A, and even at 96.5% into 97% it was still pulling 73 Amps at that constant 387 volts or so.
Very nice.
Thank you.
I may purchase a Mach E next year. I hope the charging rates are more cost efficient soon
Thanks for this test!
Patrick - Your scientific approach is excellent! LIV will be very pleased and I do miss that green-haired, wild woman!
hahah thanks fred! I love that Patrick got to dig into all this data! - Liv
No hoola hooping Liv during the charge sequences, what a missed oppertunity xD
hahaha that made me laugh out loud. I miss road tripping and hula hooping! We might need to schedule some adventure time soon! 💙 Happy New Year! - Liv
@Mach-E VLOG happy new year guys! 🍻🍸
You want to take note if the EV/HEV Battery Power, which is the one under EV Charger power stat. That’t the one that is being pushed into the battery. The rest is being used by the car for other things, such as AC, battery heating/cooling etc.
But the increased rate above 80% is way better than before. :)
Was this an Over The Air update?
It was CSP 21P22 which is not via OTA yet. Mine was at the dealer so they applied this update for me.
Happy New Year to all.
I can't wait to order my Mach-e (it's decided, it will be a Mac-e, not an Ioniq or other)... in 2023 (need to buy a parking first and be forced to move to EV).
I have accepted to loose many confort feature I currently have.
But if someone from Ford is looking for ideas in this channel, please add an option for 2023 model to have open roof (even just in the front)
Thanks
Great choice!
Miss you Liv
Aww thanks Leo💙 - Liv

Happy New Year! - Liv
Thanks for the channel and all the great content you and Liv do. Question do you leave the OBD2 dongle plugged all the time and also do you charge your car every day? Thanks
Most of the time, I charge daily. It is just a habit to plug in when I get home. I was keeping the OBD2 plugged in but I wasn't using it, so I keep it unplugged now most of the time.
I’m glad that Ford has this new update for the Mach-E anything that advances EV technology is a win. Enjoy your videos and an I’m rooting for Ford to do well.
Thanks!
That’s a fair amount of loss, between 7-8kw at the beginning. I wonder if Ford are warming the batteries like Tesla does when the battery is not up to optimum temperature
I bet they are.
A Ford Charge Angel has been spotted In a grabber Blue Mach E .The Charge Angel Technicians are checking and servicing All the Chargers in the BLUE OVAL CHARGING NETWORK.. When a problem occurs information will be sent to Ford..The Techs check the issue and get in touch with the Third Party Charging Supplier...Just another Great idea from FORD...
I love that! That's so awesome! - Liv
@@MachE_VLOG I get information on Ford at FORD AUTHORITY ..you can sign up for that site...They have info on All things Ford and good info on the Mach E..
👍👍👍😁😁😁 FREE CHARGING? That is like winning the jackpot! I don't think Tesla cars get that benefit!
I was watch someone else do the same test. At 80%, they dropped down, and it was charging between 43-44. They unplugged at 90%, so don't know what happened after that.
Happy New Year to you and Liz.......keep the videos coming. 😷

I charged my Tesla for free twice over the holidays at EA 😎
@@sandpine one thing that I noticed. Tesla owners are keeping in tuned with the Ford EVs . Looks like it will be their next EV.
@@jimcmf2 haha well I enjoy watching charging videos and videos on other evs. Mach e is personally not for me but if someone else likes it and gets one, that’s fine with me.
@@sandpine yea.....that's the line that the Tesla fan club says to use. They are all very worried that Ford is set to be the #1 EV manufacture within 30 months. Tesla is the new BlackBerry.
Thank you for the demo on the public charging, this was very informative. So the Mach E can take a 350 public charger and downgrade the power and the 150 Connection also? In my area here in Oregon, the EA chargers are 150 & 350 connections. What is the name of the app you are using to monitor the progress of the charging? I'm learning about the various features of the Mach E so I will be current when my car arrives. I first ordered a Premium package with all the extra features the 1st week March and the next day Ford Dealer accepted the order, then Ford notified me of they were not accepting orders for the California or Premium package so I had to upgrade to the GT AWD with extended battery. I missed it by 1 day. At the Portland car show they only had 1 Premium model on display which was the model I was considering and no GT's to view, so I hope I made a good choice. My delivery is middle of Sept. 2022. My custom order of a 2017 Explorer Platinum was 6 weeks back inn 2017 and I thought that was long time to wait for a car. Look forward to you future videos. Thank you.
I heard that you can unplug and replug, it will give you more kw
You can, but for the most part I'd rather just plug in and walk away.
Very informative. Thank you. Do you know if an OTA update might take care of this. I feel the same way about dealers and dentists.
And off course Liv is being missed.
LOL, I know what you mean. I believe that it will be an OTA for cars sometime this spring if it were my guess. It's way cheaper and easier for Ford to send these updates via OTA. Mine was in for other work so I asked them to do this now.
Great Report, tell Liv she was missed!
I will!
Ford have possibility to pre-condition battery before charging if you plan charging point in route ? If yes it may improve charging speed to close to optimal.
Nice job Ford! Definitely missing Liv, though!
Aww thanks tim! 💙 - Liv
Hi Pat thanks for the response. So if I understand your response time does not effect charge rate. It’s just kw delivered. XYZ cents per kw. Thanks I was curious. And yeah Absolutly no reason to push your battery up over 80%. PS I live in N. Jersey it gets pretty darn cold around here so I always plug in EVERY work night and set my charge time to begin late at night and be finished when I’m ready to leave for work. Battery is always warm as is my cabin every morning for my trip to work. It gives you better efficiency in the winter months. Thanks. Chris
Correct... here in Colorado at EA stations. Other stations charge per minute fees. That gets really complicated to figure out how much it will cost to charge. Some companies do that because it is easier for them. In some states, companies have to charge per minute because it is mandated by law.
For the most part, fast charging is way more expensive than charging at home (double or triple the cost), but it is still cheaper than gas.
Hi Pat thanks your the update. You hit the nail right on the head. It does indeed make road tripping a bit more difficult when trying to figure out the cost. That’s why I asked when I saw the $34 on your video. Was wondering if it got so high cause you were on there trying to get up to 90%
I get now and good job on the videos they help a lot of people understand the EV life which is fantastic !!
I just did a road trip from ny to South Carolina could’ve used this update charging to 80 percent gave a little over 200 miles each charge. Any chance 2021 Mach e getting blue cruise with this update?
We're definitely looking forward to testing out this update on a road trip soon! We still don't have Blue Cruise and we do have the charging update :( - Liv
Good idea for a video. I think that's now a very respectable charging curve. Much much better.
Is there a way to preheat the battery? With Tesla entering the charger as a navigation destination will get it to precondition the battery. I know driving and running the heater do it some, but sometimes not enough, at least on Teslas.
Not right now. Ford has said they will be adding that, but it hasn't yet.
I was wondering which Bluetooth adaptor do you use with Car Scanner? And, are you using Car Scanner Pro?
Yep, I'm using CarScanner Pro. The ODB2 device I'm using is from Veepeak. I went with a Bluetooth Low Energy version because that is compatible with A Better Route Planner for getting live battery data from the car. I haven't tried that yet but I will soon. Here's the direct link for the one I bought: amzn.to/3ujiT74
Were any accessories turned on like heat or anything during the test? Just curious. I got this update end of Nov but have only charged at home and work so far. One time i tested with Electrify Canada was terrible. The on screen display was awesome ordering that adaptor and app.
I just left climate control set to 68 like I always do. The fans were on '1' so you wouldn't hear them while filming. I tried not to do anything abnormal to game the results.
Still no update over here in Germany, when did you get the update and which Version is it ?
Miss seeing Liv!
Aww yay!🥰💙 - Liv
I have yet to use a public charger but can you leave car running, E-HEAT OFF, and heated seats on if it is really cold? Thanks
You can! - Liv
@@MachE_VLOG thank you Liv
I do NOT have a cellphone. How do I charge my new car? 5 days old.
I wish you stayed a few more minutes until car was charged to 100%. We would see the Energy kWh (Energy to empty) after the software update when fully charged. Maybe at next AC- or DC charging?
I probably should have stayed to 100%. If I do a full charger, I'll update the description with a link to the results.
Hey Patrick, great video! One question though, is this update version 1.7.1?
It is separate from the regular OTA updates, It is CSP 21P22 and only available via a dealer right now. At some point, they will probably make it an OTA. I only got it done because I took the car in for a brake issue and they applied all available software updates.
Was that an OTA or did you go to the dealership. We haven’t charged above 80% yet so I don’t even know how fast it charges above that. We are taking a road trip in two weeks to Texas so I’d to know if we can go above 80%.
Ah, I commented too soon. What is the number of the update?
@@loriallen67 21P22 dealer should just do it on request when the pull your vin up. That's how it went for me. :).
@@Kevintherubiconjeep thanks. We are trying verify if we need it. Our car was built in July. I think we will just take a small road trip to fast charge it beyond 80% just to see.
This was my biggest hate on the Mach e. Seeing this fixed it really make this car standout as a the only true competitor for the model y at this point.
It's a pretty sweet upgrade. I love that our vehicles can keep improving with OTA's! - Liv
That’s strange because with my Mach E, is peaks at about 106kwh.
As someone in the market for a Mach-e, my question is, what would this have roughly cost if it wasn’t for free?
It would have been about $25. They normally charge 31 cents per kWh and I used about 81 kWh. At home, it only costs me 8 cents per kWh.
Patrick, I am getting am F150 lightning and was hoping to use that same software on my phone to test the battery
Did you do a video on what you use? And how to use it?
I don't have a video like that but it's on my to-do list. I'll try to get it out in the next month.
@@MachE_VLOG sounds good thank you !
I have machE premium ext batt purch 11/8/2021 build started July 2021. I took my car to dealer last week, no update available, still charges slowly once at 80%. Was wondering why the newer ones can't get this update?????
I'm not sure why, but I know the cutoff was cars built before June 18, 2020. Eventually, they will push this update out to all of the Mach-E's.
I have followed your vlog for many months while waiting for our Mach E which we got 4 days ago. How can I tell if our car has this update?
It was built after June 2021, it won't have this update yet. For some reason, it is only for early builds right now. I'm guessing they will update all cars to this soon and it might be via OTA.
PS hi Pat can you review and share what might be the sweet spot for charging. I’ve only paid ONCE for on the road charging as I charge at home. By sweet spot I’m talking about cost not time. Do you pay by KW delivered or by time spent on the charger. Or a combination of both. I saw $34 as the cost to fill up I always thought it was cheaper than that.
It depends on the charger. Here in Colorado at EA, it is 43 cents per kWh for non-members on EA. If you are a member, it is 31 cents per kWh. EVGo and ChargePoint chargers vary from charger to charger.
So it cost 40$ to wait an hour? When I can buy a Hybrid that charges the battery while I drive and that same 40$ will last me weeks with no wait time? EV's aren't worth it yet. Just my opinion.
It was actually free that day. I've never gotten free gas. And if I did pay, the rate for members is 25% less. And on road trips, you never really do a charge like that and it takes less time. It is also very convenient to plug in, go to the bathroom, get a bite to eat, and then come back to the car to unplug. Just doing that is usually enough time for the car to be ready. Not bad at all. This was a specific testing situation. You should check out our road trip videos to see what it is really like.
Thank you. Good info. What did your GOM show for 95% soc?
I think it was at 237 at 97%. That's a bit lower than a few months ago.
10% to 97% would have been $34?! Wow, that is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the Tesla supercharger rates I've seen in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.
That's the non-member rate. The member rate is about the same as SuperChargers here in Colorado and significantly cheaper in California.
@@MachE_VLOG Okay, that's good to know. Was a little scary for a second, as I live in a city and currently rely on public charging. Hoping to change that in the next 2 years though.
@@AndrewGeleff There are a lot of new EVs that include free charging for 2 or 3 years - ID.4, Ioniq 5, Polestar 2, etc. Those are great options if you can't charge at home.
Did you have e-heat on? Apparently the heater can only heat the cabin or battery it cannot do both at the same time so switching e-heat off will bring the battery up to the right temp sooner
I didn't specifically turn it off. I just left the cabin temp at 68. That's how I normally charge and didn't want to modify my behavior to get a better result.
Did the GOM improve much? Premium, EX, AWD. I live in South Denver. here are my last charges (from home, in garage.) 80% 149 miles. 82 % 155 miiles. 100% 222 miles. Even with a MPe of 3.1. I do expect some GOM mileage difference.
I haven't been able to do any testing really. The next morning, I tested positive for COVID so I've been isolating at home. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see next week.
@@MachE_VLOG hope you're feeling better!
Hi, how do you maximize your range when it's really cold outside? I find that if I turn off the climate control the windshield fogs up pretty quickly and I end up having to turn it back on anyways. And it seems defrost mode cranks everything up pretty high by default. Maybe I'm missing something 🤔
Preconditioning helps a lot. I'll have to check the settings when I'm in the car, but I think you can change the fan speed after you put it in defrost mode.
Can i ask how you are pulling the data out? I just started playing with the Car Scanner App and see it recording information but I can not seem to get the Kwh from the DC Fast charger only the Voltage / Current (I know I can calculate it). Is there a way to pull out the raw data?
In Car Scanner, there is the Data Recording section. To export a data file, I pressed and held the file and then clicked Export. It gave the option of CSV #1, CSV #2, or BRC. I used CSV #1 to save to a file and then transferred that to my computer. Once there, I imported it into the Google Sheet but you could also use Excel.
Of course we miss Liv! Work? What is this evilness?
💙💙 I know right?! Don't they understand there are charging adventures to be had! So rude! 😋 - Liv
How can I be notified when FREE charging is offered an where?
You can search for free charging on Ford Pass or Plug Share - Liv
Missing Liz!
Thanks Bob! - Liv
Important to know Ford updated the software but NOT the battery. So you are pushing the battery to its limits when your up above 80% so no reason to push this as per your pumps kicking in. I’d argue higher rates of charge in the lower end is more valuable and safer that fighting for that last 10% of charge.
I'm sure they are calculating what is safe above 80%. But, most of the time, I'll stop at 80% just because it won't be needed to get to my next stop.
Does the 2022 still cap at 150kwh?
Wondering if you’ve had issues with the 12v battery not getting charged?
Haven't had any 12v issues. Mine was one of the early builds but still no 12v issues.
@@MachE_VLOG Thanks
Hopefully that doesn’t wear the battery out.
Any DCFC stresses the battery more than Level 2 charging. But Ford made this change after they collected enough data from cars that made them feel comfortable with the modification.
I didn't see you mention it - do you have an extended range Mach E?
Yeah, it is a First Edition so it is an AWD, Extended Range.
does it have kwh reading in the screen of the car?
No, but the interface should be updated this fall.
How do I get the update 🤔
If your vehicle was built prior to June 2021 then you may be eligible for the update. If your vehicle is being serviced, you can ask them to perform this update too - Liv
Have you used your Mach E in the snow in CO? Do you have winter tires? How does it handle, if yes? I live in the mountains.
Hey Jesse, we have all-weather tires on it. We haven't had the opportunity to drive it in the snow yet since we work remotely. Redline Reviews and Custodian of Earth seem to have some good Mach-E in the snow vids! - Liv
Nice improvement! Why wouldn't Ford be giving this update to everyone without you having to ask for it?
They will eventually.
@@MachE_VLOG I'm interested in each mfr's approach to software updates; software being such an important feature in EVs. We will be test driving a Mach-E later this week!
@@chrisridd9423 I'd be interested in how you like it. Ford has sent some updates already to address minor issues but will keep improving the process. This is their first vehicle with such extensive OTA capabilities and they don't want to move too quickly.
@@MachE_VLOG we liked it! There's enough acceleration in all 3 modes, the 1 pedal driving was pretty good, and the big screen was GREAT! It seems like a *big* car though for narrow UK roads. And there's a 6-9 month lead time if you place an order 😞
@@MachE_VLOG Also Ford really needs to have some sort of unified charge card for public charging networks, like at least Tesla and Audi have.
Do you know if mach e will come with heat pump?
Not this year and I doubt they will add one until a refresh of the Mach-E is done in a few years. Ford is using other tactics to address cold weather range.
wow, is it really $30+ to charge at a fast charger? honestly that's almost not worth it. That is almost comparable with gas prices at that point.
One, that is the non-member rate and the member rate is significantly cheaper. Using the member rate vs local gas prices as a comparison and the charge would have been about $12 cheaper. Two, it was actually free because they run lots of promotions. And three (the most important), when you charge at home it is a lot cheaper. That same charger at home would have cost $8.35. I rarely charge anywhere but at home so I've saved a ton of money over the past year. Plus, I have also save a lot of time since I don't have to stop for gas -- I just plug in when I get home.
What kind of range are you getting?
It depends a lot on the situation. Last summer, I was averaging about 340 miles of estimated range just driving around Denver. doing normal day-to-day stuff. Yesterday with temps in the 20s to about 40 degrees, I had an estimated 260 miles of range. On a road trip last year with just freeway driving and averaging 75 mph, my estimated range was 246 miles.
this update is for cars builded before date?
Cars built prior to June 18, 2020.
Exactly what app are you using?
It was CarScanner. It's available for iPhone and Android phones. And I used a Bluetooth Low Energy ODB2 adapter.
@@MachE_VLOG Ok thanks for the info I'll get on it.
What app are you using in the video?
I'm using Car Scanner: www.carscanner.info/
And the ODB2 dongle is a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner: amzn.to/3zbkmwo
@@MachE_VLOG Where did you install the dongle? And of course, Liv needs to return! :)
@@bernieb7574 There's a port below the dash under where the light switch is.
@@MachE_VLOG thanks! Same dongle I have, now to just get the app.
We miss Liv!
Awww💙I feel the love! - Liv
Ah. I commented too soon. We need to get that done before our trip. Can you tell me the name of the update so I can ask for the right thing.
It's called 21P22. It's considered a customer satisfaction update and has been done for owners who have had to visit the service shop for other reasons.
Check the link in the description. It has the full details of the CSP 21P22. Also note, it is only for cars built before June 18, 2020.
@@MachE_VLOG this date was the info I could figure out. Thanks . We are just past that date.
@@loriallen67 Ah ok. Sorry it took us a while to respond. It's been a bad week.
@@MachE_VLOG I just re-read my above comment and discovered I couldn’t type “couldn’t” apparently. So it didn’t read quite right. I’m sorry it’s been such a rough one. Keep yourselves well. ❤️
price would have been $34 dollars to charge from 10 percent to 94 percent???? Tesla would have only been $10 at a supercharger
Nope. It was free and they are showing you what it could be at the max rate. I am usually charged 31 cents per kWh and Tesla varies from 29 cents to over 40 cents depending on location and time of day.
Who has an hour to "fill up". Who wants the next charging station to be the focus of the destination, who falls for the max range con when u only go 80-90%. Why have range anxiety in the back of your mind. Why let the EV experience control you. 61 minutes tied up doesn't fit most people's definition of cool. This is not ready for prime time. Maybe in a golf cart community not for a stress free cross country trip. When charging time rivals normal gas fill up time then we can talk.
If you watch our road trip videos, you'll see that it isn't like that at all and we never spent 61 minutes at a charging stop. Most of the time, it's drive for 2 or 3 hours. Stop for a break. Plug the car in when we stop, run to the bathroom, stretch our legs, grab a snack, and then the car was ready.
Similar to what MEV responded already, the majority of Electrify America stations are located in shopping destinations, restaurants, malls, etc. When road tripping with my wife and kids being able to charge up for the next leg of the trip while getting lunch and stretching our legs was extremely valuable and efficient with our time, as opposed to pulling off the interstate to fill up at a gas station.
