    Before you start a dumbbell spider curl, fitness expert James Grage suggest you get your position right. Take a bench curl, on an incline, lay on it so that your chest is out in front, and nothing obstructs the arms. Your starting position is with the dumbbells touching each other end to end. Keep your elbows in a fixed position all through exercise. Squeeze up, get a pause on the top, then control it on the way back down. If you can’t pause at the top, get a smaller weight so you can concentrate on form.

    A weighted curly machine has an advantage it works a full range of motion... because the weights stack goes up and down!

    What makes this more effective than a preacher's curl, or just a regular dumbbell curl?

      its more comfortable and allows you to experience resistance at the top of the movement better improving the top contraction, i think it should be used in conjunction to those exercises as the resistance curves are different.

      grizzly adams thx i like doing them 1 arm at a time and still twist my wrist at the top

    The preacher bench works the lower bicep!

      There is no "upper" or "lower" part. Biceps don't work like that.

    If you're such an expert! what you're doing is a hang Curl... works the upper biceps.... Larry Scott did a spider curl, on a spider bench, it's a mid-range exercise!
