Dear Cory: You have no right to be that jaw-droppingly funky.
Signed, everybody.
The AUDACITY!
Sign me in, Man!!
I appreciate that my guy.
This guy is 100% under the influence of a groove.
One nation Under A....
Cory's phrasing on that vocal line; "... when the walls come tumble-ing down..." 😍
Like butter
@1:51
Cory's singing voice has improved. Lots more control.
The drums coming in was incredible.
He sure warmed up as the song went along.
That’s Louis Cato. He was with Snarky Puppy for a bit, and puts out some great insta content.
Louis Cato - also the guitarist for Late Show with Stephen Colbert (Jean Batiste and Stay Human band). These people are so talented!
What snare is that?
Louis Cato can basically play any instrument and sing, too much talent 🥵🥵
How strong do you want the vibe?
Scary Pockets: Yes
Overused meme
@@mammontustado9680 So?
@@mammontustado9680 Us: You wanna troll or just kinda kill the "good vibes" mood?
Mammon Tustado: Yes.
@@mammontustado9680 except in this case it’s the truth. The vibe turned up a few notches around 4:30 and everyone started smiling. Shit gave me goosebumps for like 2 min

Didn't realize this was 7 minutes long until it was over. Louis Cato with the FEEL!!
So true
Cory is a keyboard beast. Everybody knows that. This man can sing! He's a better singer than a lot of artists with hit songs. Big names, I'm talking about. Get this man an album of pop songs to "Cory-fy." STAT!
Coryfy! Yes!
He should be at least as well known as Ed Sheeran!! Or Jacob Collier, not sure if he is!? But that pressure is a bit ... another thing, being a *big star* compared to a slightly underrated genius phenomenon whom musicians admire and want to play with! The latter cosy niche is probably much more inherently rewarding.
Cory is "A" big name!!!
Lets get cory henry and cory wong in a studio together
Why waste such a talent on pop songs lol
Y'all got Cory Henry?!?! So stoked for y'all!
I actually asked him about this when I saw him in 2019. He said he was trying to get schedules worked out with Scary Pockets, so glad it finally happened. BTW the other thing I asked about was a Cory Henry/Vulpeck tour, which he is also into... someday.
corey henry got them
@@TylerBrainerd Oh yeah, a Cory Henry/Cory Wong collab!
@@TylerBrainerd Get Collier in there and you're set.
@@OrdinaryLatvian And Louis Cole!! 🎶
Cory Henry and Louis Cato. The world just can’t get any funkier now - I couldn’t take it.
It don't vibe any harder than this.
Once you add Vulfpeck i think its gonna _Get FUNKIER_
I definitely heard the next pop. The funk shall now be within me me.
The quality of musicianship in pockets covers is mind boggling.
I wouldn't call this a cover, it's something entirely new and beautiful
lt's a rendition.
Yes!
Yes, it's like what The Consouls do VGM like this ruclips.net/video/YsDP9DppmRw/видео.html
Arrangement. That is the correct designation.
Not entirely
Bro that bass player is one of the most solid players ive seen. every note he plays is so juicy, and he plays exactly what the song needs. love it!
Agreed, he's doing all that magic on a Squire Bass VI too, no thoughts, just vibes.
Soloman has got the phat slaps!
@@thehighams seems too low for a baritone...is it going through an octaver?
I’ve never seen anyone use a Bass VI to actually play bass, that’s sick as hell
@@bepitan its a six string bass that is 30 something inch scale and looks like a jazzmaster type electric :)
big props to bassist for actually rocking that thing
My dad died in April. He loved this song. Thank you for this lovely memory.
My condolences… this is such a lovely interpretation - he would have loved this one too! Stay strong.
Sending big love Edward. You might like this version too: ruclips.net/video/vkh3UlsSvsQ/видео.html
So sorry for your loss 😢
mi mas sentido pesame .... Fuerza amigo .. un abrazo fuerte a la distancia.
So sorry for your loss. I hope this wonderful music keeps you strong.
Folks, that's Louis Cato thowin it down funky-big-time on drums! He's Cobert's band leader after Jon Batiste left. You usually see him with a guitar! WOW! Unbelievable groove!
This was so good, no one even noticed that the bass was played on an electric guitar
haha yeah it’s called a bass VI. 6 string bass
@@ScaryPockets and homie was using a pick it looked like
That is a beautiful six string bass plucked...like many funk tunes of the 70s and 80s
@@dyce3008 curt smith from tears for fears also plays with a pick.
@@ScaryPockets the string spacing is much tighter than on a regular bass
i saw cory henry and i clicked so fast
same
I don't think I've ever clicked on a notification so fast.
i saw cory henry and i clicked so fast
Hahahaha same
the drummer and bassist absolutely killed it, this groove is amazing
Guitarist is important also.
This is Fela Kuti style afrobeat.
The drums are so tight- best Ive ever heard...no hyperbole. Unreal
The crazy part is that's not his best instrument.
Check out Louis Cole. Also funky and tight.
these drum sticks.. playing with bass and guitar.. wounderful.. (btw 2nd keys nearly dies listening to corey haha)
This has to be one of my new favorite versions of this song! It gives me major Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye vibes, and especially Cory Henry's voice!
Donny Hathaway tones and vibrato here and there also. Whew crazy
I think Louis Cato is one of the best drummers of our generation lowkey
Singers, bass players, guitar players, keyboard players. Lol the dude is so dope
Heard he got a new gig 👀
If Jack's power stance got any wider he'd dislocate a hip.
Lmaoooo
😂
I thought he was planning a Vault OVER the keyboard, at some point!🤔
OMG LMAO
this cover is so chill the bassist had to put on that jacket
Everyone was STELLAR, but DAMN Louis on the drums KILLED IT
This is the next level after the next level of good music.
I like how Jack is still there like "then we'll have 2 keys players!!" 🤣
That pocket isn't just scary... it's downright terrifying!
When the drummer leads us in by slapping the high hat with his hand, we knew this was going to be epic!
That solo was an incredibly successful exercise in restraint in the first half, such a tease!
Cory Henry keeps getting better at singing! love to see the versatility.
Right!? He clearly has been working on his chops.
Saw Cory Henry and couldn't click fast enough. While he was as incredible as I expected I wasn't ready for the drums and bass. Holy cow was that some crispy snare.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like a DynaSonic tuned, miked and played to perfection!
This was one of my husband's favorite songs when he was alive and I am so proud to say he would so appreciate YOU ALL ARE AMAZING 👏❤ LOVED EVERY minute of it thank you so much for pouring your talent for us!!!
Cory Henry and Luis Cato ruled the world and Solomon Dorsey, Jack Conte, and Ryan Lerman let them run wild in vibing into another dimension.
Scary good! At first I thought "how can they cover this without the iconic guitar arpeggio?"
Then I completely forgot about it and fell into the deep funk that these players brought...and they BROUGHT IT!
Drummer killing that pocket!!
I keep coming back to this video. Can't believe Cory Henry's performance or Louis Cato on drums. Unbelievable.
The B3 sound gives me a big damn grin every time I hear it. One of the greatest instruments ever.
Couldn't agree more. Absolutely heavenly.
nothin like it. I knew a guy who sawed off the legs of his so he could load it in the back of his blazer and take it to gigs.
It's like Marvin Gaye with the Funk Brothers accidentally double booked studio space with Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters, so they decided to just make it work and record together 😍🤩😍🤩😍
Curtis Mayfield walks into the room :-D
Louis Cato really making the kit talk too, just like Mike Clark!!!
word
When you recontextualize a song in such a masterful way it's such a transcendent experience. Thank you, God Bless.
this whole thing is magic. but 6 minutes till the end is other worldly. the "everybody want to rule the world" against the snare might be in the top 3 tightest grooves maybe ever.
The organ GOAT himself. What a collab!
hot damn that was smokin', especially Cato's break-y back beat
They are all incredible, but I especially love listening to Louis Cato and Cory Henry together, it can't get funkier that this! ❤️🔥
Absolutely.
Yes indeed the BASS IS KILLIN IT!!!! Absolutely Excellent!!!!!
You can't tell me this isn't the best thing you've heard lately.
Undoubtedly...!!
I can't: it's the best thing I've heard in a LONG time!
Agreed, can't get enough of this !
It truly is. I’ve been playing it on repeat.
Won't tell you. It is.
Made my morning. I can hear Jack saying.... "YUS! More of that!" Cory's vocal's keep getting better and better!
The last half of this is just pure joy.
Henry's voice is pure magic.
And OMFG, Cato's drums...
This song is such a nostalgia for me. Love the cover ❤️
This is my favorite 80’s song. It’s such a classic

@@editorodriguez6554 for me too
Wow that was killer! Shout out to Louis Cato laying it down big time on drums
The bass at 5:35-5:41 is scary!! 😳😳😳 and the whole video is dangerous!
I've watched ALL Scary Pocket's videos.
With respect to previous featured musicians, Cory really takes you to the next level.
Keep it up!!
That. Was. Insane!! How is everybody so chill in the comments ??! Chills, tears, joy ! It gave me all. The bass is straight up killing everybody [queue Gary Oldman in Léon: The Professional] EVERYYBODYYYYY. The drums were insane, Cory just ... I don't know there's no more words at this point. Dude !!!
Your library of covers is great but this one was beyond that.
I know. Every time I listen to this, which is like once a week since it came out, my throat chokes up and I almost start crying. It's beautiful. And Cory, Louis and Solomon are in lockstep.
Over the solo, Jack just smiling and nodding his head like the muppet, Crazy Harry. Love it!
I came across this and honestly I didn't expect much. I have some tears. It's beautiful.
That organ solo was amazing🤯 So musical
Ok if we're talking about an all star lineup of pure funk?? This is it right here.
Damn, the drum part is more than fine.
Everything about this cover is fantastic, but can we also talk about how good that Bass VI sounds!? I had no idea you could get that thing to sound so tight and bass-y.
I had to do some very hard staring to check my eyes were not deceiving me
And it looks like it's a Squire! Just proof that the price of instruments is not that important...imho.
I didn't even notice that! But I heard the killer bass tone. Whoa
@@6strbassplayer when it comes to bass vi there's not much choice out there. It's either super cheap chinese copies, Harley Benton (not that bad), Squier, then Fender, and then we go into super expensive territory that I haven't checked yet
I could go to bed until I figured out this bass. I did not know that model and tuning etc. Thanks for the info
I felt some "Don't Stop Till Get Enough" on this, love it!
Love Cory's vocal phrasing on this.
HERE FOR THE JAM SECTION!!! This free form Jam bit is so so tasty.
it must be a nice feeling to reach this level of musicianship
Now THIS is why I love the drums.
They literally got lost in the music, amazing to witness such a legendary performance
Solomon is KILLINGGGGG IT on that Bass VI!!!!
Squire? I have one and I swear it sounds better than my buddy's Fender P.
The sheer joy that Jack performs with puts me in a better mood every time. You just can't fake that.
My boy Matt Murdock killin it on guitar
Omg - Cory Henry :O - Man I am so stoked with which musical creations you guys bless my ears every Monday and every other day of the week! That Song grooves so much - it's just unreal!
I would like to be able to add like 50.000 likes to this video. Blew me away completely. After Cory started the solo, it just went into a whole other dimension. I can't believe I just saw this. Thanks for sharing such a magical moment! Must have felt great to stand in that room after the last drum sound faded.
1:52 What the hell, the choices this guy just makes seemingly on-the-fly... Those notes he sings "where the walls come tumbling down" ... So cool.
THIS GUY IS FRAKIN" AMAZING
You know it’s good when you get chills down your spine listening to the song.
Alright, pack it up fellas. You've reached the mountaintop.
What a scary good pocket this drummer’s got!
SO SO GOOD🙌💕
What are y'all doing here?
@@emilandresen7577 d e
Jack must still be freaking out....
this is arguably my favorite song covered by arguably my favorite cover band.
let's get funky.
This may be my favorite Scary Pockets cover so far.
I know that room felt good! Nothing like a leslie singing live
that drummer is PLAYING
If ever I decide to rule the World, this will be my theme song
Room full of great singers actually they could've pulled off some crazy harmonies
Epic! Mr Cory Henry ladies and gentleman 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
speechless after that my goodness i didnt want it to end
Excelente !!! Siempre los escuchamos desde la Patagonia Argentina !!!
Holy crap! That was sick. I love that song. Special place in my heart for Tears for Fears over the years. I was curious to see how you guys would "funk" this one. Man, it started out fine. No surprises. I was excited to see the organ. And then at around 2:20, this just exploded in an unexpected direction. So good. Lean but tight drums, cool bass cooking along, enough rhythm guitar to fill it in and that organ setting the world on fire. BAM!
6 mins of pure fun!
I'm feeling that "woo" at 4:35. This is truly among the all-time scariest of pockets.
This is my fave scary pockets so far. Love that bass VI, i want one now
I tend not to show favorites with the featured artists, because everything you put out is stellar.
But I LOVE Cory Henry and I’ve been waiting for this. He has magic hands.
SCARY HENRY. CORY POCKETS.
Man, I used to skip opera history to listen to Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles and Snarky Puppy. When he preaches his sermons on that organ it's enough to make this agnostic feel the gospel.
How have I lived this long without hearing these guys!?!? Found my new favorite band,, outstanding work!
Rhythm section was like... a fucking bulldozer! Amazing shit!!
Two layers of nostalgia--70's superimposed onto 80's...
Funny
Hammond organ gives me 60s
This is proof that leaving breathing space in solos/starting off simple is the way to do it
love the groove on drums
Lousi Cato is so incredible! An amazing singer as well!
Everybody wants more of these 80s covers
Best cover I've ever heard of this song.
Pure acoustic alchemy, this song was transformed.
Yo that was awesome that drummer oh God yes
