So when they sense a "Brookstone" or realise afterwards they've been Brookstoned. Could they just abbreviate that to "Hmm I sense some BS going on here"
Hahahaha 😂😂
“Mark i smell some B.S.
This is all going to turn to brookstone at some point.
I appreciate that the angelic being is prone to bouts of extreme rage. Also, Rosemeadow is totally one of those ladies that sells essential oils, except hers actually work, and I love it.
There’s something very sweet about Lucius liking porridge so much. He (usually) has access to the fanciest foods, and he loves the simple, inexpensive commoners food. He’s really developing as a person.
That may have just been him accepting that he doesn't have a choice. (Still an amazing amount of character growth) but i am surprised he actually finished his porridge 😊.
I think this is my favorite quote for this video. "Daddy once said that : Death is what gives us purpose. I dont know what that means... But, it seems appropriate right now."
Ironic how it's Lucius who tells the story the best,
Then again he is just like Nightfrost, Terribly honest.
Which actually worked in people's favor
"The actions of one person does not dictate the actions of an entire race"
-Alia aka the best diplomat with a war hammer we will ever have
@@Drago-957 nice quote.
I love that Mark tackles real-world problems and stigmas within this game. It makes me very happy to see the parallels and how the party has to tackles these issues that confront them.
Especially good to see it handled respectfully. It's quite easy to just shove that sort of thing in willy-nilly, but Mark's gone to the effort of creating characters, not caricatures.
Yeah, Savona seems to be a reflection of a lot of the good and bad of Southern US.
There's a tenuous coincidence here. This episode reminds me of Gandalf's similar sentiments in LotR where he is speaking to Frodo of Gollum; "Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends." Nova/Kim hit the nail on the head; you can't tell what life a person will lead in the future, and who are we to make that choice? The coincidence to me here is the episode title... in The Hobbit, just after Bilbo spares Gollum's life a new chapter starts - "Out of the frying pan, into the fire".
Please take this as a compliment and not criticism. I can't get enough of this channel.
Living a good life as a good person doesn't excuse a past of inflicting pain and death on people, put simply saving a life doesn't forgive taking a life, life is complicated, there is the old saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and the only indicator of future actions are past actions, Nova is very naive and tries to see good in everyone so you should take whatever she says as just that, the POV of a naive young woman
@@thefracturedbutwhole5475 I disagree with you, if the only indicator of future actions are past ones then there would be no such thing as rehabilitation or redemption.
Also, who did the Ashbringer kill? I may have missed something but as far as I can tell he was captured whilst vandalising Rosemeadows' shop, soon to burn it down like his shop burned down, having only thought about murdering her (his words). I don't feel you can establish a mens rea of direct intent to murder on that basis. Even if you could, by your argument a person can be declared a murderer based on intent but can't be declared a good person based on their intent to do good?! Fallacy.
But it's OK that our opinions differ, these moral dilemmas/decisions are at the heart of D&D RP and I think it was a really well designed encounter.
@@Mith0logy I think you misunderstood what he meant a bit. He did not mean that past actions dictate future ones, but that the future actions cannot absolve the actions of the past. Allo having the intent to murder is already enough to be viewed in hostility and the desire to kill.
At the end of the day, this discussion boils down to a critical difference in judgement that people have.
Do you judge someone, especially their right to live, by the actions they have already taken, or their potential for the future?
Both have very valid points in their favor, and while I ultimately side with the latter, there are good reasons for the former. Here we see that mith0logy believes in the latter while The Fractured But Whole sides with the former. We had a whole discussion about this in one of my college debate classes. It's a very interesting discussion.
This story arc is a masterclass in DM worldbuilding. Kaylee's Rest is a robust, well-developed city with a bunch of cool things for the players to do. Mark wastes no time setting up the community's central tension while making no bones about who the bad guys are. He does an excellent job of letting that tension sizzle on the back burner as the PC's organically go about their business. An excellently sculpted adventure.
Mark did have one of his npcs specifically tell the group, :if you stay here for more than a few days, you will see and have to deal with that racist mentality that has developped.
Edit: I think it was the half-orc wave watcher that beat the snot out of Aila.
The Ashbringer's backstory is actually a really good example of how radicalization happens in real life. People who have been through some hardships are targeted and secluded to be indoctrinated into the idea that *insert other group here* is the reason for all of their miseries.
Don't forget the not-so-small detail that the Ashbringers (and other groups that may or may not be from a fantasy realm) have been manipulated to believe that their hardship is the result of others and the best answer is xenophobia and violence.

Thomas Bartlett spent three hours trying to get this comment to show up and I finally made a new account and it works
*sarcastically* “pfft! What is this??? CRITICAL ROLE?????????”.
HR has their own timestamp lord!
40:10 Hesper gets DEEP
Bless you for doing this. You are a river to your people!
I really like Mark's DM style, and his focus on description though not at expense of pace. Think given the excellent RP of the players, especially Chris and Rhiannon, that he could be a wee bit more generous with the Inspiration. Especially how unlucky the players are in combat 🤣
I like to think that Mark/Rosemeadow's "Healing Slav" coats the user in a full Adidas tracksuit, and forces them to slav squat or eurostep for 6 seconds.
I know I’m late to this party, but I can’t believe how emotionally engaged I am with this story 🥺 fantastic journey so far I’m crying
It's been very moving and i can't help but feel a kinship with the group, as they are flawed, misunderstood, or lack the confidence to believe in themselves, they still choose to do the right thing, even tho it's the most difficult and dangerous option.
1:45:00. Such a good moment.
i can just imagine it being in glass case labeled "incase of need to smash something break glass".
2:17 - 2:25... this is probably the best example of a great DM I’ve seen to date. Seriously, 10 min of letting the RP flow and watching the story unfolding before him ... but only adding small needed info... bravo!
mark has this way of looking shady as the group discuss plans, without being shady.
This is called being the Dungeon Master.
"If we said it in a happy way, would that help?"
Loved that.
I was just waiting for the moment Nightfrost moved past the statue for mark to be all like “Blah blah blah... Nightfrost says something. You hear a load thud as Nightthfrost no longer communes with you.” Or something like that.
This was wholesome I had this feeling this unexplainable feeling at this moment 41:00 it felt a real god and Tom were talking about something so deep as life it moved me I just appreciate how amazing mark has been in this story I’m new to dnd and so far I love it but this particular moment is just so real so deep just beautiful. Thank “god” I found you guys I’d be missing out for sure if I didn’t thank you again ❤️🙏🏼
She's setting the town on fire. Quillek it was in your dream, your a god man you can see the future!
Chris Trott your characters are always the best.
The fact that mark made an NPC that created such a moral dilemma is great!!

49:20 Tom's face when Rhiannon says "Burns something down" XD
Oh boy! I'm slowly catching up with this campaign and the rp between Kim and Mark (Nova and The ash keeper) was amazing. I wish fighting racism and hatred was this easy in real life. Such an amazing campaign. Took me a while to get on board with it but I'm starting to prefer this campaign to the first one.
The conversation between Hespar and Quill had me tearing up 😢
Possibly useful timestamps:

As someone whom is attempting to speedrun these videos to catch up to the latest episodes, I thank you. ❤💖
I love Mark as the centar. Might have to try that for a druid
2:19:53 Nova: "5% chance of succes", Quill: "Seems pretty good"
My god. So happy I can binge. How could you wait a week for more
Glad I found these guys after catching up with critical role
Break ends at 1:33:56
More like, 1:34:10 But that's close enough.
Ok that was a really good story telling move from Mark. getting them to stay in the temple. The cultists have probably figured out where they are staying so they wouldn't really be able to get a long rest at all. This temple would allow them to get a long rest.
RosePetal is definitely a 60's Flower Child.
I love how expressive Rhi's face is, and usually Mark would take that to be what the character is doing, but luckily Sentry has a perfectly expressionless face
Mark should be a director and the rest should be actors. everyone is so good and provide emotion!
sometimes i miss matt with his semi evil character not realy giving a shit about wrong or right all the time
It kills me that they talk like they don’t go town to town killing whoever TF they want ALL the time
Love the DM
Keep up the good work
1:49:30
Starlord: We aren't plucky, we don't even know what that means.
Lucius had the biggest brain idea with Nightfrost potentially being able to power Sentry and he presented that idea in the worst way possible. He is so dumb, I love him. I also really want to give both him and Nightfrost a good counseling, they really need it. (Also my aasimar cleric, who'd be straight up a Palador devotee in this setting is aching to help Quill interpret divine visions and prophetic dreams. ) (Thought the being naked one probably was neither.)
"I'm not omnipotent" said the GOD of magic in qilleks dream
Something I do not get the thought proses of this team at all, instead of telling the harvest guard leader that they stopped a ne romantic ritual where a ash bringer was going to be sacrificed giving them evidence by way of the temple they instead lie out of there teeth to probably the only person in the entire city who has the man power to stop this... I just want to face palm really badly right now.
They probably didnt want to cast guardians in a bad light, as well as protect Weiland so he could have the chance to change fornthe better.
Isn't there a wild elf in the Abby that Aila needs to talk to? She's missed like several opportunities to ask after them
Yes, yes there is.
Angel goes full Kylo Ren,
never go full kylo ren
I was literally think the same thing, I'm surprised no one else commented it
Suddenly hears Duel of fate being played in the background
All these episodes have become either phylosophy lessons or theropy.
"Do not grieve. Soon, I shall be one with the Matrix. One day, one among our ranks will rise up, and use the power of the Matrix to light our darkest hour..."
Don't you dare! I don't need to cry right now... T-T
YOU GOT THE TOUCH!
I’m playing an Eldritch abomination of a race in our campaign, his grandfather was a high angel, an archseraphim to be specific, his father was a nephilim who became fae touched, and he himself is the offspring of that and a silver dragon. Making a new race, the Drazelim
The look of foresight that Mark and Tom share. 49:24
I'm so surprised, traveling in Mark's world, nobody is a stealth specialist or assassin...
I personally would have created a Gloom Stalker Ranger...
The Gang turns a guy's life around and helps him grow for the better
Maybe, we won't know if it stuck for a bit.
I've been playing this game where you terraform Mars into a livable planet (Terragenesis, it's good) and I named one of my colonies after Aerois (they were all 'A' names) and then I accidentally flooded it. Sorry!
"Accidentally"
At least it'll put out the fires.
If it were me I'd just scream cast zone of truth and I'd tell her EVERYTHING
1:02:04 The Forgeflamer and the Flameforger xD
if he had killed the centaur then the ritual took place i would have been like, "yeaa doit! take his soul!"
Cleaning my car out and listening to this. Finally a "warm" day in the northeastern US. :D Any time I can get more Quill is a good day.
They always give such cryptic answers, despite not having done anything wrong.
2:19:30 you guys have met a Guardian who is literally made for smashing through enemy defenses... what was he called? Smashy or something😂😂
Watching High Rollers always makes my day! Keep doing what you do best guys!!!
Lucius you wonderful boy! Bringing Nightfrost back ;)
"cześć, uzdrowię cię" - healing slav
From the breezy spire ... to an ash-spouting volcano.
2:39:00 Healing slav strikes again.
He's the True communist
I've cried so many during this series and love it.Mark makes everything so deep so you feel like your also there
Mark: Knights of the Black Rose
Me: Lord Soth
Melieka had a full on Kylo Ren temper tantrum lol. Maybe she's the real Starbane
I'M CRYING, I'M FREAKING CRYING OML XD . I swear whenever Marc acts like a god he gets so philosophical ON A LEVEL THAT GETS ME!
This episode really gave me a lot to think about. Some things hit too close to home for me XD. I love this episode and I love this campaign, even though i'm not exprienced in dnd someday I really want to play and maybe even act as a dungeon master. Thanks for all the laughs and making my day. Keep up the goo work :D
I am loving how awkward and naive this group is
Holy shit he Hespa says to Quill here ask the right questions, the eye of storms was already planned
This is so much better than the crap on T.V. Ty for the laughs.
They should've gathered an army and stormed the abbey
Quill dream gave me the shivers even more when not even a God could see what he was 😱
Glad I’m not the only one
When Quill have the premonition, he is probably also have another god/goddess blessing?
Why is it that the least wise person is the only one making insight checks hahaha?
Well, time to catch up on Highrollers.
Rewatching this now, knowing what happens, is like watching a train crash in slow motion
God this episode is so far my fav
when chris trott manages to lose about 10 platinum pieces
I can’t help but laugh for imagining a smol Lucius
Really like the death church.
Okay but i got really excited when Qillek got the long rest dream of H'esper
I am in love with this show but I'm Terrified™. I am going to shit myself if anything happens to our party.
Methinks Breeze's spell was inspired by Dementors.
This was a great episode
I wonder if there's anyone dedicated enough to keep track of marks 'Like' count .. must be over 9000 by now lol
Spell is clearly life transference
Binged watched from episode 1 XD
same
I was cringing during the entire beginning of this episode going like grrrrrrrrrrrrr Sentry can spend 5 lay hand points to eradicate poisonnnnnn grrrrrrrr
damn, at 17:57 Rhiannon looks really sad..
They're so bad at giving important information to the people who are able to help them; things would go so much smoother if they'd just be honest from the start
1:56:00 I’m never gonna financially recover from this.🐯👑
Chris is the best
Breeze has the staff of magnus ;o
today on aerois we talk about racism. and i love it
Fiends invading, that's what the those fuckers are up to, fire powers and resistance and a floating door of fire and light gottaa be fiends
Question does aila remember about the wild elf “lari de lan” that the lightning god told her about
Given its british isles origin it's probably laerdelann or something even more silly in terms of spelling, and I doubt she's forgotten her entire character motivation just because she hasn't spoken about it in a couple of days :P
Also, she learned the name in the last place they visited, the god just gave her a rough direction to go.
Next week is Purge Time boyos
Jayla reminds me of Cassandra from the Lightfall campaign.
Great series!!!
i couldn't find the behind the screen video or channel mark talked about at the beginning of this video and was wondering if anyone found it? Because i would find that very very interesting, all videos i could find were too old :(
Did you forget that you have that picture recording magic item! I dont remember the name if it
Things are... Heating up
😎
