@@zipical yea some dmc purists might not like me saying this but starting with 5 and trying to go backwards is basically impossible because 5 refines everything from the previous games into a perfect polish. even 4 which is basically diet 5 feels just so bad, but that might be because the enemy design is significantly worse. 3 is obviously the icon but dante's the only playable character besides vergil's dlc and he's much more limited by technical constraints compared to 5's dante who has 4 weapons, swords, styles, and 2 dts, all at once

If you haven't listened to Mick Gordon, he did the music for DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal which are some of the heaviest badass metal songs that get you blood pumping while you rip and tear until it is done! BFG Division is my favorite. He also did other music for games like Killer Instinct

Also, yes - each theme plays dynamically in DmC5, based on style rating, which serves similar function to a combo meter. That's why they feel slightly segmented, but like they have an order in which they are played - because the song develops (or in this case, escalates) alongside your style rating. The ratings go from D-SSS (Smokin' Sexy Style)
Edit: I can't believe I nearly forgot - knowing how much you liked Bury the Light, you should consider giving the cover by Little V Mills a chance - if Bury the Light is a love letter to Devil May Cry, then Little V's cover is a reply to it, and where he truly earned that "V".

Casey Edwards wanted to make his theme amazing since he’s a fan favorite character, and boy, he did not disappoint in the slightest.
Casey and Victor actually did one more song together called "Vacant Surrender" that I'd love to see your reaction to

I am heavily influenced by the emotion in the music and if that song is associated with like a movie or a game or something, I see those relevant moments of the media and imagined sequences of the media in my head.
Bury The Light is the perfect character thesis for Vergil.
Literally every single verse references something from his character arc, the instrumentals reflect his inner turmoil, and the composition retraces his emotional journey through the franchise... If you're familiar with his story you can follow his journey from the pained ambition from DMC3, over the hatred and frustration of DMC1 all the way to the desperation and eventual resolution in DMC5 over the course of the song - including flashbacks to his childhood. All while staying true to his cold and brutally efficient demeanor throughout.
I also highly recommend you to pick DMC5 back up. That game has done the impossible for a legacy franchise and is pretty much universally accepted as a great successor - even holding its own against the nostalgia of the previous gold standard of the series, DMC3. They did everything right with it. Kept the formula players loved, polished the gameplay for the modern age, to the point where it just feels SO GOOD, and then expanded upon it in ways that serve to enhance it even further. And at the same time they pulled narrative threads from all across the franchise and tied them into a narrative that manages to make heavy references without feeling like a ripoff, and meaningfully contributes to the overall lore as well.
It's honestly THE modern hack&slay. I can deeply recommend it to any fan of the franchise, as well as anyone who thinks cutting demons in half with a motorcycle-dual-buzz-saw while blasting music and cracking one-liners sounds like a fun time.
(Around 3:34) Yes that is how it works, it's usually termed "Dynamic Music" which is when the soundtrack will change in real time based off things like player actions, enemy actions, progress in a fight, how good (or poorly) you're doing, ect.
Some other games with this type of music include the NieR Series (Replicant/Geshtalt as well Automata) and Metal Gear Rising.
All of the Metal Gear Rising: Revengance OST needs to be heard if you like this.
Other Songs I would suggest would be to listen to the Elder Scrolls theme songs, since it's basically just a progression of the same song through various iterations.
Just about anything from the Legend of Zelda. Ballad of the Goddess, Track 8, is from the 25th Anniversary soundtrack is a good listen. I would also suggest Track 7, which is a mashup of all of the LoZ themes from across the franchise, and Track 1, which is a medley of various songs from across the franchise.
Also anything from the Killer Instinct games. Personally, I'd love to see you react to PowerGlove's "Fight On" is an amazing power metal tribute to the series, which was already deep in the power metal genre thanks to Killer Instinct 2/Gold.
Speaking of PowerGlove, you might just want to give their entire album, Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man, a listen.
The entirety of Undertale if you haven't done any of those, although at this point you've probably already heard the one song most people would be excited to see you react to, "Megalovania".

To answer your quuestion, yes, DMC5 has "dynamic music" which changes to match the pace of your attacks.
I'm not sure if it's like that throughout the whole game, but at least for the fight that plays this song, it did.
And yes, I absolutely daydream and create scenarios in my head based on some songs I listen to and try to match it to the music. I love doing that.

@@reedsylvier5250 From the little I've seen of metal hellsinger, I'm unsure because it looks like your actions add beats to the music, instead of the music changing. What I mean is, the gunshot adds like a drum effect, but if you didn't fire, there would be no drum effect at all. Killer Instinct (Xbox One) has Dynamic music as well like DMC5. When the characters stand still, the music will play slower. When they start moving, it plays faster and previously unheard tracks will start playing.
In DMC5 it has a similar system but also, during that particular boss fight I remember the rythm of the actual song changed to match the timing of your attacks. If you look up "BEYOND HAPPINESS - Hype & Hype: Devil May Cry 5 (Part 2)" here on youtube, it happens at the 11:43 mark. That video contains DMC5 spoilers btw, so beware.
i don't get this comment, bury the light plays whenever you play as vergil except in certain missions whose music overwrites all characters' themes. dmc 5's dynamic music means more layers and more progress in the song is made when you play better rather than how quickly you attack. the higher your style, the more you hear until s-sss which gives you the chorus. and yes it's like that throughout the whole game except in those aforementioned missions (which is annoying because you always want to hear the character themes. the bossfight themes are good tho) i'm assuming by "the fight" you mean the dante bossfights where a special acapella intro of bury the light plays?

I think my favorite part of this entire song is during the deep/hushed part about 6 minutes in. The lyrics are a retelling of Vergil's life and actions which is just... mwah. You can genuinely tell that Casey Edwards is a diehard DMC fan.

It's called a "Battle theme" in the sense that it plays in most battles in the game outside of boss fights while you're playing as Vergil, with the song escalating the better you play. Start of the battle is the intro, the first hit of the battle is the opening guitar riff, and various lyrical sections play until you hit A Rank on the style meter, where it plays an intense drum roll with the synths and guitar wailing in the background before dropping hard into one of the choruses once you hit S Rank. DMC doesn't just feel good to play, it SOUNDS good to play.

I do imagine things when listening to music, like picturing a new epic tale in my head. It kinda helps inspire me to make something like what I'm imagining. Not sure if it'd be something really up your alley so to speak, but the soundtrack for Nier Automata is very good even if it's not exactly the music you'd regularly listen to.

I think Bury the Light and Devil trigger have to be enjoyed together because Devil Trigger is the theme of Nero and this is from Vergil and it also has a reference to his son's theme on "Bury the light deep within" to Nero's "Embrace the Darkness thats within me".

People daydreaming/making music videos in their heards as they listen to music is a thing for a lot of people (including me). It's normal hehe. Some though take it up a notch and actually make AMVs (anime music videos)/MADs (Music Anime Douga) based on what they imagined. They'd pick a music and splice together the scenes they think fit for those moments and make an entire music video. There're lots of amazing ones but there're lots lost to time cause of the copyright strikes, sadly.
If you are gonna react to more game OST I REALLY RECOMMEND the Guilty Gear Strive character Themes (and the main game theme) since the character themes are not only really good but also really gives you a feel for the characters and how they are as people.
An example: Baiken's Theme called "Mirror of the World" which has like a traditional Japanese feel to it in between the rock/ metal which really shows off the fact that Baiken is a very traditional person and hasn't really adapted to modern times. But that is just one of many good examples of how the themes show off the characters.

It would be funny to now react to bayonettas sound track being that’s it’s the exact opposite vibe and the creator of DMC developed both games, I’d recommend Mysterious Destiny which is similar in that it’s describing the main character in the song and Bayonetta 2’s Moon River OST
