I like to incorporate sweeps in my kumite, works wonders.
Make sure you sweep the lower part in the back of the calf in the direction their foot is pointed (as they're stepping in with their attack)

@@dudcats During my brief exploration of TKD, I always found it weird that the one of the styles was "WTF TKD". I always read it as "What the F--- TKD" even though I knew it meant something else.

ITF use only kicking and punching,no point break fight for black belts.No takedowns,no low kicks
@@GatodeUlthar666 We have those, but sparring rules not allow it. I definitely learned low kicks, sweeps, takedowns and even trapping in ITF. Outside sparring competitions, we can use it in free sparring tho.

I was talking about the competition rules,so tkd is more hardcore by mylittle experience in ITF.

Great to see. I am 67yrs old and have been training in martial arts constantly since I was 15yrs old. I started with Wing Chun for 15yrs ending up as an assistant instructor. In my early 30s, I took up WTF TKD and reached 3rd dan but at 65yrs old, I decided on another change and started Shotokan and currently hold a 5th Kyu. If I have learned anything it is that all martial arts deserve respect and in most cases, the effort put in by the student is more important than the style!I have to say that there is a lot more to martial arts than fighting, I have trained for 50plus years and in that time I have had to defend myself only twice, successfully I am glad to say! If it was only about fighting then I put a lot of time in for little reward! But of course, it is also about self-discipline, a peaceful mind, good health and fitness and Dojo camaraderie. I follow your site and appreciate your openness as a martial artist. With young Sensei's like you around the future of martial arts looks good!

I have a 7 year old boy and would like him to start some kind of martial art. Im just not quite sure which kind will be better suited for him. Or should I just get him into whatever class near our house? How do you know if a dojo is good or bad?

It's refreshing to see people fighting different styles and being able to offer unbiased comment. Good video, and I wish I was as fast as any of you!
The last kick is a very popular kick in both style of Taekwondo. It is call a spinning hook kick. Some people add a jump or hop in it like he did.
So again a hook kick proves to be difficult to defend against. I've seen the same for the tornado kick and the spinning back kick and still wonder why it is so? Esp. the tornado kick takes a very long time, they still can't react to it, why? Is it because it comes from the back of the head and they can't see it?
It's a great technique!

@S K Yes, but even taekwondists tend to be defenseless. I've seen it so many times. Thing is I don't go to a Taekwondo gym anymore, but when I start again, I'm definitely going to ask someone from the more experienced competitors about this

What is most practical for real fight and what is most for acrobatics. ITF taekwondo is most practical for real fight, and WTF taekwondo is very agile to do in acrobatic (not effective in real fight against people who can do martial arts practical real fight).

What I love about your channel is that you're going out to improve your own Karate skills and try to discover ways to counter and deal with different martial arts. Taekwondo is very similar to Karate in many ways so it's a good way to experiment and improve your skills as a martial artist.
Now with this experience you can teach your students how to deal with these scenerios. :)

I was thinking the same thing. Some martial art bullies show videos of boxing, bjj and Muay Thai fighting karate, TKD and kung fu practitioners that no one knows about. But this guys video is solid because he sparred with real life competitors. Not people who bought their belts from McDojos
I was fortunate to have an open-minded TKD instructor. He had instructors from different styles come in and train us. We also got to compete in open style tournaments. He realized that the more you add to your toolkit the better fighter you will be. It's like any other culture in that learning new things from other people only increases your knowledge. There are lessons to learn from all Martial Arts.
It is sooo humble and so wise of you to do this kind of interchange.bI admire and respect you for that. You are destined to become an excellent master of the Martial arts.

It is so interesting hearing a karate perspective on ITF Tae Kwon-do. It made me laugh, not in a disrespectful way but rather because I recognized what the Tae Kwon-Do practitioner was doing and how it surprised the karate ka. Thank you for acknowledging in one of your other videos that ITF people can actually punch.

Very good video, and very serious and nice analysis of tecnique. As an ITF instructor who loves martial arts in general, I had a shotokan karate black belt for a year practicing in my dojang, and I can say fairly we learn a lot of things from each other. @@captainkirk7513 Live long and prosper, captain. I can say BJJ and Mixed Martial arts are now going more popular here, but we are behind the great level of Brazil at it, yet. Tough in ITF Taekwondo we have a decent level, some of my younger companions are also practicing kick boxing/full contact for compliment, wich I love too (but Im too old and broken to get into them hehe). The more you practice, the better!
It is the only way to get better -- practice with champions and adjust! That was a fun match to watch.

Taekwondo is such a beautiful martial art form. Its definitley the best style of kicks that ive ever seen. I used to take it many yours ago when i was much younger. Now in my late 40s i plan on returning back to it. The style has such a beauty to it like no other.
This way martial arts will grow and in future there will be great martial artists around. This is the way to enhance one's fighting techniques while learning what best technique one should apply when confronted
by a particular fighter.

I like your videos because you are showcasing different martial arts.
My 1st martial arts back when I was in junior high school (in the 80s) was Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate.
Then I switched to TKD when I was in college. Had my black belt when I was 17 then stopped training after 5 yrs.
Been on and off for the past 20 yrs but I am 2 months into training again and watching videos like these really gives some motivation.

Love these videos. It was quite interesting to hear your commentary on Taekwondo and it's "Crazy Kicks".
Taekwondo was the first Martial Art I studied.
My former instructors had many show stopping kicks they often did at demonstrations, my head instructor used to kick an apple off the end of a sword.
I just started learning taekwondo and looking at the comments I have no regret that I chose it cause tkw community is really respectful and cool, I hope I get better at it soon.
Very great experience to pay them such a visit. You really reminded me of such an experience. I made changes to my training afterwards. Example is, I mostly kick twice before a reverse punch.

Becareful with McDojo. Pick a school that has atleast National Champion and registered to your National Taekwondo Organization. McDojo dont affiliate with any organizations (mostly)

Mostly. My instructor was affiliated with both WTF and ITF, but was independent. Taught his own style. He was one of the pioneers of Tae Kwon Do.

A very interesting match sensei! He moves very fast and has powerful kicks! But I noticed that you were surprised several times and I don't blame you. Taekwondo kicks, especially those that focus on the head (like the ax kick for example) are very "irregular" and with many variations, and I think that's fantastic! You had several chances to counter attack as well, but he was very quick to approach to clinch and not give you the opportunity to counter punches (But I saw that you tried several well positioned gyakus). It was certainly a fantastic experience to watch, congratulations to everyone involved! Ps: I am a red karate belt (Uechi Ryuu) and a blue taekwondo belt (WTF).

Been an itf practitioner for awhile now, I couldn't fault any of that from either of you, great control, awareness, reaction timing, counter game was on point, control of technique was excellent (as it's only sparring not brawling most meat heads would usually try knocking each other out) but this is truly growth between two legit traditional black belts at its best, and yup, our kicks are tricky alright and most of the time they differ with the person (height weight where they've trained etc) you simply never know what your guna get with a taekwondo practitioner but you made weathering the storm look pretty easy, solid work dude
its very refreshing seeing someone go to different schools to train with them.. do this more. i do jiu jitsu id love to see you go to a jiu jitsu school

Good effort . ITF TKD is very similar to karate sparring . I have seen a few karate fighters adapting TKD style of kicking . WTF TKD would have been more all rounded if they allowed punching to the head.
Actually in WTF you can punch the head but not the face, anyway is useless because you look for more points and the punches arent worthfit. Anyway take the WTF competition as a game, not a combat.
@@K1-Glory I dint mean its unefeective, obviusly they can do some serius kicks. But i referred only in competition, the point sistem made that the combat became ridiculous sometimes. They are good kicking? of course
I was a WTF practitioner for several years in my younger days, never did I realize there was ITF and that it would be more martial and less of just olimpics driven. It's great to see these kind of videos with two experienced and respectful practitioners exchange experiences in the dojo/dojang.
