Mrs. Phyllis you and Mr. Bucky always bring a smile to my face. Your Jello looks delightful, and I cannot wait to try it out. Thank you both so much for brightening my whole day❤
So glad you shared this video ! My mother made this in the 60's . She passed away six years ago and I had not been able to find her recipe for this. She called it a five cup congealed salad . Her fifth ingredient was shredded cheddar cheese on top. Thanks so much , take care and God Bless both you and your husband.
Ed Reid that's genius!!! I feel the same way. There doesn't seem to be anything Miss Phyllis can't do if she puts her mind to it.. And she seems to love fixing meals for folks. I can picture a beautifully decorated, inviting and comfortable bed and breakfast. I would definitely stay there on my trips to SC, as my mother lives there and I really should get out that way to visit her more often. I live in Michigan. Anyway, a bed and breakfast would do very well I believe with Phyllis as the host!
Growing up in the 1950s & 1960s my mother , born in 1917, made aJello dessert, including this one , at least once each week. It is my opinion that she and many other southern women of her age, perhaps subconsciously, considered Jello to be a benchmark of gracious living. She and thousands like her grew up in rural Louisiana and Texas without electricity which I guess finally arrived in the mid to late years of the Depression. Hence, once wired into the grid you and your family had "arrived" and the serving of Jello dishes was a visible, tangible reminder of the wonders of electric refrigeration.Just my opinion based on family history before I was born .
I think electricity didn't come to rural areas until the late 40's and early 50's. They did have ice boxes and the ice man came once a week with a large chunk of ice that went in the top of the ice box, it keep everything cold down below. I think they had electricity before refrigerators were widely available. I remember the one light bulb hanging down in the middle of the room and it had a little chain they would pull to turn it on.
Phyllis Stokes I remember the dry ice. As a child we'd visit my grandmother in Newbwerry (up your way) and we stopped by the country store and bought a block of dry ice. I remember because I was intrigued by it, curious. We only got it when we visited a couple times a year.
I think jell-o desserts are great. They are light and sweet and fruity and delicious. Especially in the summer time. I admit that I don't make them like I used to when the kids were at home and small....they really liked jell-o. I think it needs to make a come back and I think I should make some tomorrow!!! Thanks for reminding us of the good stuff!!! Love the video.
Ms. Phyllis thank you so much for your recipes and stories! I enjoy them so much! I've been very depressed so I watch before bed and I can sleep better without so much worry! You are such a treasure!😊
I made this recipe tonight and absolutely loved it! It brought back times with my mom as she used to make jello every night with dinner. Thank you for all you do on your channel.
They were a great couple- it was so nice getting to know them on you tube. Did you and your family move into the house? She gave a tour of the house and camper, too. You are a wonderful son for them. She was gorgeous!
Just finally brought myself the courage to watch these two lovely people again...since mr bucky and miss phyll have both passed ive missed her so much and seeing mr bucky, i have had a lousy day in every area even up until i gathered the courage to watch this...now i must say despite my instant reaction to ask Phyll hey do you remember jello 1-2-3? And i said out loud ahh oh no...ahh miss phyllis i miss you so....but i continued to watch despite the aching and im so glad i did! What sweet cute loving moment they had so cute...these good things never go away..,the loving conversation about orange dreamsicles...and sherbet...made my heart smile.,thank you for making this terrible day end up completely comforting loving and sweet..,with love always, your recipe buddy Tamara.
How neat to get to see Dr. Stokes again! Please thank him for me for making a guest appearance. Can't wait to make this for hubby, I know he will be pleased with it. Thank you Ms. Phyllis! Edit: I've just put this together and into the fridge to chill. Had to make a few substitutions: Neufchatel cheese for regular cream cheese, a 4 oz can of mandarins because that's what I had, used the juice of the mandarins as part of the jello liquid, instead of pineapple I minced up a fresh nectarine because hubby doesn't care for pineapple. I did whiz it in the Vitamix because my backup blender is too far buried downstairs to be easily accessible. It is chilling now and will be a lovely dessert for us tomorrow!
I remember my grandma making jello desserts like this for Sunday supper. They were always delicious and refreshing. Thanks for bringing back these recipes that we grew up with.
I do the same thing! You know you're a fan of Ms Phyllis when you do not like Jello, but diligently watch with anticipation of trying it one more time... Ms Phyllis's way.
OMG! I forgot about Jello desserts! My grandma used to make them like this with cream cheese or cottage cheese and fruit and served it on a bed of crispy lettuce.. You make everything look so easy. Thank you for the memories!
Love this recipe Miss Phyllis! I agree Jello is being reborn thanks to you. I recently purchased a vintage copy of the Joys of Jello cookbook on ebay and enjoy making recipes from it! So retro, brings back fond childhood memories.
Its going to be a Phyllis Stokes inspired weekend of cooking! Hard to narrow down which recipes to use!!! This jello is for sure on the list!!!! Thank you Phyllis!
I love jello. I served jello or pudding for desert most every night with my family for years. I am so glad for this video. I will be bringing them back. Great desserts.
I just found your channel a few days ago and have been enjoying it very much . I live in Oregon , people cook a lot different here but I was born in Missouri and my Mother and Grandmother cooked the same good southern food like you. Thank you for all your hard work sharing your life ( yummy food )with us. God Bless 💜✝️🙏🏻
Hello Phillis, I must tell you what happened to me, I am your neighbor over in York county, SC. I did not have a blender, but I do have a food processor so I made the orange jello, and put the cream cheese in the processor, and poured the jello in. Well it was too much liquid and the jello started leaking out the bottom, what a conundrum, I quickly poured all the stuff into a bowl, and grabbed my immersion blender ( lovingly referred to as "the boat motor") it worked just fine! And we had it tonight for dessert. Sparky, my hubby loved it! Thank you so much for your video's, I just found you and have spent th weekend catching up on your videos. Take care and see you around the IPad!
I was in quite a pickle, and I am happy I still had that thing. It worked pretty good. I used a very deep mixing bowl so I wouldn't be wearing the jello when I mixed it! Thank you kindly for the reply!
Hi Mrs. Stokes, This really brought back memories. My grandmother used to make this for me in the '60s when I was very young. I love your videos and I find them to be a great distraction from all of the craziness going on in the world.
I just made Phyllis's French bread pudding with hot rum sauce and it was super delicious ! My aunt always made bread pudding for family get togethers. Since she passed away nine years ago I haven't had a taste of a good bread pudding. Well, for supper tonight we did! My son and daughter-in-law loved it but said they'd like it even better with chocolate chips.....no, my husband and I love it with the dark raisins so that is how I'm making it! I love chocolate too but not in bread pudding. Thank you for sharing good recipes with common easy to find ingredients Phyllis :)
I remember when I was a little kid playing at the park and the ice cream truck would come up. I would always buy the orange push-up pop. Loved it. Also orange and vanilla reminds me of days at the Jersey shore where we would always get the orange vanilla swirl ice cream cone on the point Pleasant boardwalk. We would eat it while watching the fireworks after sunset. To me this is the taste of summer.
I made this last night. OMG! Sooooo good. Shared some with a neighbor -- 21 years old -- who'd never had jello! She loved it! Thanks so much for the great recipe.
I keep doing it just the way you taught us. Bubbles included. It’s my family’s favorite dessert. No body wants a cake for birthday. I’m very honest we just love it! Thank you Phillys. Your recipes still rocks in 2024! See you in heaven!
Phyllis thank you so much for this recipe. My grandmother used to make this but she used apricot jello and apricot baby food in hers as well as pecans. So so good. It was my favorite desert as a little girl.
The Jello choices are not what they use to be in any of the stores, maybe the re-birth will help get us more choices. I looked for blueberry last time I was at Walmart and Bi-Lo and could not find any.
Who could imagine that 2 years later Mr. Bucky is gone and 6 months after, Miss Phyllis would leave us as well. I can't help how sad it is to know we will not get to hear her calming voice in sharing her new ideas with us. May they RIP.
This reminds me of a dessert I made "back in the day" that was very similar. To get my kids to eat yogurt I would make the jello in the same way, but then add plain yogurt (I'm not sure they did vanilla yet) in the blender instead of cream cheese. I would blend it up then pour it into parfait glasses or a similar fancy dessert dish with height. When set the jello would separate into 2 parts, 1 regular jello part, then a creamy foamy jelled part on top. then i would put whipped cream on top. For strawberry jello I would use strawberry yogurt, for blue jello I would use blueberry yogurt etc. Plain yogurt worked with everything. There was a product Jello put out called Jello123. This did the same thing.
My mother-in-law makes this exact recipe every year for dessert with our Easter dinner. I always have seconds. Jello is a "happy" food for me and reminds me of family get-togethers and childhood. I love it.
Mr. Bucky is so handsome. I love when he smiles. His eyes light up. I never laughed so hard as when the two of you had your discussion on Christmas presents and what was for supper. Thanks to both of you.
I knew the Mister was driving to the dairy farmer's store today, so I set out all the items I would need after breakfast, then as soon as he left, I made it! It took exactly 12 minutes start to finish including cleaning up and taking out the trash. When he came back 3 mins later I was in my recliner pretending to sleep. Just another wifey surprise end to today's dinner. I just know he will love it. Thanks, Phyllis! oxoxo
Looks delicious! It was good to see that Mr. Bucky liked it so well. I must tell you that I fixed the recipe that you called Casserole Italiano. My husband absolutely loved it and my youngest son did as well. My oldest son has been out of town but he's already telling me that he wants to try it as soon as he gets home. You were right, the egg noodles was great in it. Thank you so much for sharing all of your wonderful recipes. I can't say it enough that you and Mr. Bucky remind me so much of my grandparents. I hope you have a wonderful day!! May God Bless You.
I made this last night, but with lemon Jello, didn't have orange on hand, and we had it for dessert after a taco salad dinner. It's 109 degrees during the day and still over ninety after dark, and this was a light, refreshing but satisfying treat on a very warm evening. I thank you and hubby does too. We loved it.
Made your jello again today, I often come watch your videos and use your recipes, sure do miss you and Mr Bucky ... really enjoying your son Stephen and his family though, keeps you ever present in my mind!
Hey Phyllis, I have been following your blog for only a few weeks! And I am hooked. When I saw you referring to recipes that your mom made, I was hooked. I wanted to ask on the topic of Jell-o. Do you remember a Jell-o chiffon dessert, from the 1950-60's. It may have been a mix. But my husband of almost 42 years, brings it up all the time. I would love to surprise him with it. Maybe this one of yours could be it. Give Mr. Bucky a big hug from me. I love your southern accents. And watch you blogs all the time. I have alot to catch up with!
My grandson was over today and wanted to make jello !! I told him there is always room for jello ? Guess I’m showing my age he had no idea what I was saying ?? Lolol ,,, miss you both ! 🥰😇👵💕
If I was I'll and needed a nurse, I would want Miss Phyllis taking care of me. She seems so gentle and caring. Just watching and listening to her work is so relaxing and I know she lowers my blood pressure.
I have always like my Jello "NEAT". But since you mentioned this recipe tastes like a dreamsicle, which is one of my favorite ice cream treats, I am going to have to try it! Thanks! Oh, make a video of a trip to the store!
Phylis,. You are a treasure! I've been watching your videos all night long! I can't get enough of calm and relaxed cooking. I'm a spaz ,.. even if I make coffee,. I'm going to try almost everything you make. And, seriously your Pinos and dumplings will be the first!! I do have only one criticism,.. please don't bang I pot with a spoon,. Fork,. Spatula,...it's like fingernails on a chaulk board,..lastly,. Thank you for taking the time to teach us!!!!
Another great recipe I'd like to try Ms Phyllis. It reminded me of one is I'd like to share with you my husband loves his grandmother and mother made. I wonder if you have ever heard of it? It's called Jello Pie. You use vanilla wafers crushed for the bottom of the crush and whole ones line the sides. You use a can of carnation milk chilled for 2 hours, one box of strawberry jello, and a half cup sugar. Use mixer to beat carnation till thick. It will be light and airy. Add jello and sugar beat till mixed. Then pour into 2 of your pie crusts. Chill and it's ready to eat. My husband is like Mr Bucky about it. Lol. Have a great evening.
Yes, add dry jello to the 12oz carnation and you can use flavor of your choice. I tried other flavors but it was strawberry that was his favorite and what his grandmother and mother made. The pie is rich but my husband could eat half to a whole pie. Lol
Anita Tucker I am so going to try this BUT sub the wafers for Oreos (minus filling) then garnish with chocolate covered strawberries OMG sounds like heaven!
Y'all are truly my most favorite couple of all times💖💖💖 I love the way you displayed your green spatula. That is a good place to honor your old friend.💖💖💖
Hello New Yorker. Me too! Long Island...ever been? How cool. Iam going to Google to read all about the discovery of Jello in your neck of the woods. I see a family " field trip" in the future. Love ❤️ museums. If u have kids in your life (if your not aware of) you must go to Crayola Factory and Land of Make Believe. Love her channel. 🐞
Hi Phyllis, l made this dessert and oh my goodness it was wonderful! My husband sounded like yours. He calls it "a taste of heaven" lts quick, inexpensive, pretty and oh so tasty. Also, I love following along with you because your voice calms my spirit and removes any feeling of chaos I'm feeling of trying something new. Thank you and God bless you and Mr. Buckey.
When I was a cook at the local country club, some of the bridge ladies gave us a similar recipe to prepare for them. I thought it was so neat, they'd have a " light, ladies lunch" with a serving of this, a half chicken or tuna sandwich, fresh fruit, and zucchini or banana bread. I miss those fun ladies! They dressed so elaborately and each bridge day had a special theme. Thank you, Ms. Phyllis, for the fond memory!
Thank you, sweet lady for the recipe. I made it and it is now in the frig, chilling. I added 1/4 cup of chopped pecans to mine along with the fruit. Also, I used my immersion blender and blended in the same bowl that I dissolved the Jello in. clean up was a breeze. Again, thank you for this recipe, along with all the others.
we are going to make all of your jello deserts , but with sugar free jello , my husband is diabetic . Thanks for reminding me about them . I am 76 and made these back in the 70's with Weight Watchers !
Oh so nice to see Mr Bucky and his sweet smile. You both are a special couple to have on YT. I love jello and never stopped making it in different ways especially in the summer. Dream Cycles were so good!
So great to see Mr. Bucky! Thank you for another jello desert idea. A dollop of whipped topping on top would be so good! Thanks for sharing, and blessings to all.
I LOVE Jell-O and have many happy childhood memories attached to eating it. My mom would cut out shapes of two different flavors or mix in fruit cocktail, YUM! This recipe is a must try.
Hi Phyllis! I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your videos. I just finished the video from 2013 where you and Mr. Bucky were discussing what's for dinner. It reminds me so much of my husband! I have also cooked for him for the last 40 years and sometimes I get so mad because he will refuse to eat leftovers and suddenly now, he has decided that his food cannot come from the freezer. I can only buy meats fresh for 3_4 days at a time. Either he is getting senile or I have totally spoiled him rotten! Thanks again for the great videos.Aimee
I'm gonna go get the stuff & make this tomorrow. Thank you Miss Phyllis. And thank you Mr. Bucky, for your valued opinion. Both of you have a blessed day. From a fan in Oklahoma.
Looks great. I recently made something called stained glass Jell-O. Basically 4 small trays of different colored jello, added to some condensed milk with gelatin. It really looks like Stainglass and it tastes nice.
Girlfriend you love you some bubbles in your jello cream cheese fruit desert reborn !!! You let Mr.Bucky have as much jello as he can stomach !!! Cuz he's cute as a button! You're a lucky lady miss Phillis ! Keep bringing us new jello recipes if you can everyone loves Jello especially when it's hot. God bless you both 😊❤️
I notice your old spatula is on the wall..a fitting tribute 2 your old workhorse! We are a family of diabetics. My husband was diagnosed at 6yrs old. His mom made a jello every supper, the sugar free works fine. My favorite she makes is similar, no cream cheese (She uses dream whip), no pineapple (only the oranges), but the thing that sets it off is, instead of water, she uses the juice from the can. I will definitely make this for him. Thanks for all you do Phyllis!!
I can watch her videos all day ! Miss her! RIP Mr and Mrs Bucky ! 🙏🏼
She still keeps me company in the kitchen. I made this, and her quick rice pudding today. We miss you down here, dear Phyllis!
Mrs. Phyllis you and Mr. Bucky always bring a smile to my face. Your Jello looks delightful, and I cannot wait to try it out. Thank you both so much for brightening my whole day❤
Catching up with some recipes I missed! It’s like she’s still with us!
I plan to leave these all up as long as folks like you want to watch them!
I have never in thirty years of marriage said to myself "I need to have a dessert ready for when we get home". Lol. You're a good wife Phyllis!!
I thought that's why the freezer is full of ice cream and toppings in the fridge and pantry.
She's making us look bad, y'all.
The way Mr. Bucky looks at you is so freaking adorable! I can tell he love you so much
Find someone who looks at you the way Mr. Bucky looks at Phyllis lol
So glad you shared this video ! My mother made this in the 60's . She passed away six years ago and I had not been able to find her recipe for this. She called it a five cup congealed salad . I could listen to you talk for days. Such a wonderful voice you have! So glad I found your channel.
Mr. Bucky sure loved her cooking.
I know, right? He was a blessed man, and I always got the feeling he knew it.
I'd love to spend my 2 week vacation with Phyllis and Mister Bucky and just eat and sleep..They should open a bed and breakfast..
Ed Reid that's genius!!! I feel the same way. There doesn't seem to be anything Miss Phyllis can't do if she puts her mind to it.. And she seems to love fixing meals for folks. AMEN to the Southern Frugal B&B!!!!!!!
Phyllis should have her own show on the Food Network...I could watch her cook and tell stories for hours..
Ed Reid right?! Seem so sweet & genuine. I bet they have amazing stories to tell.
Ed Reid A bed & breakfast, count me in! 😁

I am going to make this, Miss Phyllis. Thanks for sharing. I am always saying to my husband, "Miss Phyllis does this.....Miss Phyllis does that......"
Jen Midwest Me too! Miss Phyllis made this today, or Miss Phyllis installed s faucet today, There isn't much she can't do.
I know, Loretta, I told my hubby about how MIss Phyllis can do anything. She is amazing to me.
I do the same thing!
You know you're a fan of Ms Phyllis when you do not like Jello, but diligently watch with anticipation of trying it one more time... Ms Phyllis's way.
Hey Phyllis you can add pecans and coolwhip to orange jello and a cup of buttermilk Granny's receipe and pineapple
Victoria... You don't like JELLO??????..... Sacrilege!!!!
Thank you for showing Mr Bucky's reaction to the Jello desert. My favorite part. The desert looked good too! Just love you two.
I made and my family devoured it! Delish!!!!!! Thank you Ms. Phyllis!!!!!
OMG! I forgot about Jello desserts! My grandma used to make them like this with cream cheese or cottage cheese and fruit and served it on a bed of crispy lettuce.. You make everything look so easy. Thank you for the memories!

"Creamsicles" are what my mind went to when I saw it in the dish! Good Humor used to sell those popsicle. Yummy!!!

Hi Mrs. Stokes,
This really brought back memories. My grandmother used to make this for me in the '60s when I was very young. I love your videos and I find them to be a great distraction from all of the craziness going on in the world.
I remember my Grandma making this dish for holiday. Great memories!

I've made your Jell-O and cream chees dessert with sugar free Jell-O. And, it is so satisfying without having any sugar. Thanks for all of your ideas!
Made this jello salad over the weekend and it was a huge hit with the family,
Glad to see Mr. Bucky, haven't seen him in a while.
I made this last night. OMG! Sooooo good. Shared some with a neighbor -- 21 years old -- who'd never had jello! She loved it! Thanks so much for the great recipe.

I had to make this for my hubby & me. We loved it! It will always remind me of Phyllis. ❤️

You are a born teacher -- step by step, not too fast, giving reasons. I haven't had jello in years, but that will change soon!
This very same recipe appeared on all of our holiday tables when I was growing up in the 50's! I completely forgot about it, must make it♥
My mother-in-law makes this exact recipe every year for dessert with our Easter dinner. I always have seconds. Jello is a "happy" food for me and reminds me of family get-togethers and childhood. I love it.
I love the little air bubbles, too!! Thank you for sharing. Love your videos! God Bless you and Mr. Bucky ❤️
Can do the same with peach jello and peach pieces.... This is a hit! Just made it... very cool refreshing and satisfying.
My grandson was over today and wanted to make jello !! I told him there is always room for jello ? Guess I’m showing my age he had no idea what I was saying ?? Lolol ,,, miss you both ! 🥰😇👵💕
Omgoodness, that looks and sounds delicious. Dreamsicles are my favorite. Ty4s, God bless you
If I was I'll and needed a nurse, I would want Miss Phyllis taking care of me. She seems so gentle and caring. Just watching and listening to her work is so relaxing and I know she lowers my blood pressure.
Phyllis, your videos just make me so happy... thank you! :)
Jello is sort of a forgotten dessert. Not sure why. It's easy to fix. This looks delicious.
J E L L O...always touches a warm spot in my heart❤
Dearest Phyllis.
I love your videos. You seem like an old friend. Thank you for bringing back recipes from my childhood.
I have always like my Jello "NEAT". But since you mentioned this recipe tastes like a dreamsicle, which is one of my favorite ice cream treats, I am going to have to try it! Thanks! Oh, make a video of a trip to the store!
I like how you ended with a Mr. Bucky taste test! Do that more! 😄
The recipe sounds delicious, I have not heard of it before. I have heard of using vanilla wafers as a crust.
O
Y'all are truly my most favorite couple of all times💖💖💖 I love the way you displayed your green spatula. That is a good place to honor your old friend.💖💖💖
I live in LeRoy NY where jello was created. We even have a museum!
God bless LeRoy!
Best Ever Thank you! God bless! :D
UnicornKWO_9077 u How interesting! I'm googling this! Never thought about where Jello was made! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Dianne Dare you're welcome :)
This looks so refreshing! I will make it today. Thank you for sharing.
I love this dessert...Mr. Bucky just tickles me. Thanks for sharing Phyllis I enjoy your videi s and stories so much. Again thanks for sharing
we are going to make all of your jello deserts , but with sugar free jello , my husband is diabetic . Thanks for reminding me about them . I am 76 and made these back in the 70's with Weight Watchers !
Oh my, yes. I still have those old jello molds. Can’t wait to make this goodie again.
Oh so nice to see Mr Bucky and his sweet smile. You both are a special couple to have on YT. I love jello and never stopped making it in different ways especially in the summer. Dream Cycles were so good!
How wonderful to see Mr Bucky again hope all watching have a wonderful day
So great to see Mr. Bucky! Thank you for another jello desert idea. A dollop of whipped topping on top would be so good! Thanks for sharing, and blessings to all.
I absolutely love your videos. I made the jello cream cheese dessert. I loved it in the blender.
That sounds like "spoiled him rotten", I think I may have one like that too.
I am so glad I found your videos. I love to see you and Mister Bucky talk together. You both are a joy to watch .
Fabulous! Thanks Phyllis! Bless you for the rebirth of jello!
I sure do miss you two. 😢
I just adore ur vids. .. ty ... your simply awesome. Ty for brightening my day.and I'm so gonna make this
Thank you, Miss Phyllis for the recipe.
Miss you and Mr.Bucky so much 😪💔
Hi Miss Phyllis and good to see you Mr. Bucky. A great jello recipe. :)
So wonderful to see Mr. Buckey & Miss. Phyllis again.
God bless you both 😊❤️
Thank you Miss Phyllis. You have made me interested in cooking again!
