My uncle was a teenager in the 80s. He recently gave me his 87 Hutch exel. I've been riding BMX for a decade. Now I'm learning 80s tricks on an 80s bike
It is an absolute blast watching my childhood hero relearning / teaching the tricks that made me fall in love with him. I'm 50 now and relearning my own past favorite tricks. it's so motivational to see RL back in the saddle. RL, thanks for spending your time with us! I appreciate it immensely.
This is so awesome. Growing up in the 80's bmx freestyle was all I tried to do and now being 47 I'm trying to get back into it. These how to's will hopefully get me back to my roots. Thanks RL you are a legend
i tried copying this from a mag too...used front brake and couldnt get it down. then a older guy from another town was passing thru mine and showed me how to do it with no brakes and a lil speed. Boom...had that baby down after that. #Rad
i am 50 and i used to ride a Hutch Trick Star here in the 80ies in Germany. Awesome to see RL showing how to do to 80ies Tricks. The thing is that we saw most of the trick back then just in pictures. RL and Woody Itson are my Heros!
I was just talking about you to a few younger riders here at a local skate park in Ontario Canada and I recently heard that you were coming back to the sport Rob for your own enjoyment so I had to come see for myself, I nearly $Hi+ to see you riding again. I am so looking forward to your videos and seeing everything you are up to. You and Bob are the reason we rode hard and it kept us out of trouble. Nice to see you back brother!
Hey Richie that is so rad to hear and stoked to have you watching my videos. Nice to know you are still riding too! I took such a long break and now I am just getting back into it
For me that was one of the easiest tricks, and best looking tricks, to pull bitd. Didnt know you had a channel! instantly subbed. much love from the UK.
@@RLOsbornBMXFreestyle you’re welcome brother. I am 45 and trying to commit to a g turn my favorite trick of all time. You make it look so easy. I know it isn’t though. If I make it though, I will give you some serious props 👊🏻 My wife thinks I am out of my mind..
Looks like it's all coming back RL. You gotta watch the 2hip vids on RUclips, you were killing it at the street contests. Shows why you were one of the best
I could never quite figure out the "no brakes" part of this trick. I became proficient at the 180 bunny hop to rolling backwards to 180 slide back (sort of the last step of the rock walk). But I just couldn't figure out the sweet spot to get the rear wheel to come around without brakes. Cool to see RL demonstrate this old school trick again!
@@RLOsbornBMXFreestyle maybe now it's harder for you (probably for me as well since I haven't ridden a BMX bike since 1993, only mountain). I guess I overcame my fear and found a fun trick I could master without too much negative consequences if I messed it up! Everyone probably has one or two favorite tricks in their bag. I also liked the 360 fly out jump at the local jump spots. Although many times I could only muster a 270-ish. LOL
awesome! i feel ya, it is hard to explain everything your body is doing in these tricks. We don't even realize sometimes what each individual actions several of our body parts are doing in conjunction when doing one trick, fun watching. Thanks again for taking the time to do these!
Holy Crap. How am I just now finding these. 47 years old and looking to get a flatland bike. Doubt I can get a saved version of my bike from way back in the day (Kuwahara Bravo). Restored are pretty pricey!!!!
your a legend to me bro. just found your channel. i will sub for sure.i am about 50 and i do flatland videos and bmx edits. inspired by all you legends.
Gonna watch your last Velodrome run after this. You and the rest of the pro class paved the way for me. 47 and still riding and close to my teenage weight haha.🍻
I personally would not use pedal pressure to pivot on the back tire. Hit your brake. Pedal pressure on a freecoaster while the hub is rolling backwards will damage an internal hub part known as a clutch. The damage to the clutch will eventually cause skipping when pedaling. Skipping is when the pedal engagement doesn't catch properly and the pedaling action will only get worse because the clutch is damaged. I've been using a freecoaster for 8yrs and know this from one experience. To replace a clutch is like $30 and the freecoaster will then work properly.
I’m 54 and just bought a flatland bike because you inspired me RL
Glad to hear it. Enjoy the ride.
I used to be able to do these when I was a teenager. I declare I will get them done again in my mid 50's. Cheers!
Y’all are god sent
Thank you!

We need to get RL's sub numbers to 100k! He deserves it!
I wouldnt be complaining if that happened!

Thanks for the love and glad to hear you enjoyed. You're still a youngin compared to me so you have no excuses! Happy to hear you enjoyed the how to
It’s funny, in the early eighties I studied “How Tows” in BMX Action Mag, and today 40 years later I look at my IPad just as excited 🤷♂️😎
It's a hard habit to shake, isn't it?

"BMX Plus" magazine, geez, takes me back....
The look back is still one of the most stylish tricks 😎😎🫶

Happy birthday RL...you rick.
Thank you Erick!
So many olde timers still out there riding! It’s like a BMX renaissance!

Without RL freestyle would never have been what it is today. The man is a legend of the sport!
The man had class and still does🤛
Thank you so much Joe that is a really huge compliment! Just made my day brother!
@@RLOsbornBMXFreestyle 🤛
one of my favorite trikz...❤️
It's an old one but a classic for a reason!
One of the the first tricks I learned, I destroyed a few back wheels before I had it dialed.
RL demonstrates so much grace. I wish I had this tutorial back in the 80’s!
Rick Allison is great too!
Thank you Joe I really appreciate that

the 180 in and back slide out is one of my favorites. That's funny. 180 in is way harder for me.

Sweet ! Just like old times
I’m glad your back RL!
So cool to see someone my age riding again.
Thanks so much for the Facebook and RUclips videos. Lots of fun to watch.
My pleasure, Kelly. I learn a lot when I'm explaining a move.
Oh snap another video hopefully when I get all these parts I just ordered I will be in the mix! Whaat!
I'm even more impressed he did this with running shoes on.
I gotta say it is easier than slip ons like back in the day!
Thank you, RL! I was a HUGE BMX Action fan. Have my Mike Buff P.K. In the garage!
Very good video shoot the camera guy is far away so we can see what your Doing Much Better Thanks RL Osborn for the Rad video
Hey Jason happy to hear you enjoyed my camera mans work! That is actually my son Dylan doing all the filming. Happy Riding!
I always thought that the faster you did a rock walk , the cooler & smoother it looked .
Wow, thanks for the info RL, man breaks has been my issue these last 3 decades 💪🏻
Really awesome seeing you ride again. The bike looks sized perfect.
Thank you. The first two weeks was rough. Now things are starting to work a bit.
Just subscribed !!!
Love the trick tips! Keep it up RL!

Thank you and I still have to get ahold of a redline but soon I will. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I called it the crabwalk after watching rad and it was a fav trick when not at the track in the late 90s on my p61.

That's excellent. I'm going to loose some lbs.
Still smooooth RL , gotta get me one of those free wheels for the rollbacks
What bike are you riding RL? I’m looking to get an all around bike to get back into flatland and just generally have fun.
F'n RAD RL!

So you’re running a freecoaster on this bike,GT 22”?
The S&M 20" has a freecoaster but the 22 does not. Thinkin of adding one to the 22 tho
R.L. Show me how to G-turn the pro way...
That's another video for another time. Still working up to it haha!
