@RL Osborn Hey man great story I’m speechless. You did have some great bikes, the set ups too. What are the chances of still seeing that bike, it could of been scrapped and recycled, stolen sprayed and exported to another country, lost in an old barn. That guy was so lucky to get the bike he wanted, and it was genuine, and he also met you, that’s proof of the Universal Law of Attraction. What does it feel like to see that bike after so long....? My Holy Grail of 80’s BMX Bikes was the Haro Master or really the Haro Sport, I had about 3 Haro Masters and 1 Haro Sport.
I had a VDC Gorilla Low Profile 24" cruiser that was stolen from me in South Phoenix in 1989. It was one of 5 made by Voris Dixon... I have NEVER been the same since. That was my "Holy Grail" bike and I own 20 pristine RARE bmx bikes but that one is the one that I can never replace. Sad :>(
i sucked at doing tricks but i sure had enough love and passion for BMX in the 80s that i count that as a win. Still watch RAD at least once a year and listen to the soundtrack often as its on my phone :) RAD is the holy grail for us 80s kids.
Marker 51:12 when you’re kneeling down and taking it in, my god was that an incredibly powerful and monumental BMX moment caught on film. FANTASTIC video guys!
fun fact, I was at that AFA contest in Portland. I think it was Tigard, Oregon. I was too scared to approach RL so instead I followed Scotty Freeman around and tried to show off. I regret both of those decisions lol.
What an amazing story and video. I really don't know how to put into words the feels it gives to see things like this. Freaking time capsule with all of these memories that come flooding back from 30+ years ago that have gotten buried by life since that time. Just went upstairs and hugged my restored 1988 RL 20 II.
This was truly nothing short of an amazing adventure and awesome story. Owning a piece of history and you RL seeing your old bike again after all this time and this mans journey to aquire it. EPIC! My grail is the one i finally got this time getting back into bikes for second time since 2009,my 87 GT Pro Freestyle Tour team but in Dayglo yellow and the only 1 in that color. I accomplished my goal since 1987 of aquiring it even after inflated up the wazoo prices for it and i still need gt super laced hubs but they will come eventually.
Wow, so cool! I bought an RL20ii frame/fork in chrome in 88 or 89. Woody Itson bars and more and just bought a new set of Tuff wheels. I can still do most of the tricks from the day and ride almost every day. I too have signed shirts from many of the tours, but unfortunately misplaced a GT tour shirt I had Martin sign twice. Rock on RL!
Yes. I was not clear in my post, but I own and ride that same bike. It still feels right vs new bikes and I didn’t have to over pay for the nostalgia! It is a bit of a hodgepodge, since I didn’t start with a full bike. It has a Haro stem, GT seat post clamp, dia-compe front brake, ACS rear brake, GT wheels, bearing rotor and MKS graphite pedals. And an original SST Dirtskirt and beartrap headset. Like noted, the workmanship on the frame and fork is a work of art. It was the pinnacle of an era and I continue to enjoy looking at it and riding it.
I love this so much. The fact he did this trip and journey with his son makes it perfect. I was waiting for this story. So rad. Thanks for sharing it fellas! Also - shout out to Pat because he's my dude!
Wow, great interview and story. I can't imagine how much that's worth now! I remember several years ago when the guy on the internet who somehow came across an old bike shop's inventory found a half dozen or so RL20IIs still in their boxes and sold them on eBay or elsewhere for 10 to 12 grand each! What a unique find though to say you own a Pros bike that had been ridden all over the world. Very cool
I'm 47 and that movie was such a huge part of my childhood. I mowed so many lawns for my 1986 Redline Prostyler. I was 11 years old when I bought that bike. Only to have it stolen 3 weeks later. My Step Dad found an old BMX Huffy, painted it red and bought white mags and put it together just like the bike I had. It wasn't the same but it got me through. Anyway... Loved the video and RL, you are a Legend my friend. Thanks for the content on YT. Take care.
What a great story! As a bmx fan myself from the 80’s I know what it’s like to be passionate about it, but the time, effort and devotion you put into finding out if it was real or not is next level!
@meandmyvanandmydogandmybik6736 thank you for taking the time to give it a look. Glad you enjoyed the video. Another screen used RAD bike was discovered back in March of 2022. Extensive research is also going into that one to vet out it's provenance and authenticity. More details to come as that story progresses. Dustin
Hey R.L. Great to see you here! I saw you in the summer of 1985 with Ron Wilton and Fred Blood at Rockville BMX in Rockville MD. I still have the signed BMX Action Trick Team shirt. My first ever Freestyle BMX show! You guys put on an amazing show and we’re very gracious to all of us that met you guys! Seeing you guys killing it and Fred Blood riding the quarter pipe with the skates was RAD! Without you guys, the sport never would’ve gotten to where it’s at! So glad you’re back at it! All the best to you guys! Absolute legend!
Nice! Great talk and amazing history and to be reunited with the bike! And David Clark did great work on that bike!! I was talking to David when he was building it, He messaged me about a 55 stem and I needed the cap, thanks David. I was trying to get a set of Osborn pro decals to him so he could send them with this bike. 🥲Hopefully one day I can get something R.L signed for my Osborn Pro build ❤️
I'm writing this before I've watched the reveal. I just want to say, when I saw that this was over an hour, I thought, "way too long." But, wow... this is great! Dustin is a great story teller, and RL's input is perfect. Bravo!
@Chris C, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for hanging in there. My wife had to live with it as it was happening real-time and said she needed a break. Can't blame her. Have a nice weekend, Dustin
I have a picture of this bike and the next numerical serial number bike also in hazard yellow bike from the crown point Indiana old school BMX show from 2015.
I've never seen a RL20ii in real life, only in pictures. But,one flaw they had was the 6" long head tube.U had to use the Redline fork that was made for the frame. Now I call it a flaw.Of coarse it wasn't a flaw with Redline cause it ensured the owner rode a Redline fork on the frame. Now in today's thinking I would want the original fork for its collection value. But if I own this in 86' or 87' I would have wanted a different fork on it.Probably to the point of cutting the head tube down as much as possible.
Does it ever amaze you that you've had fans for over 50 years. All you guys were stars that never faded to your fans. You had an image that screamed "This is so fun." and brought a generation or two to say I want to have that kind of joy and fun. Hell, I remember Volker had chrome wallpaper, Blyther had a cat that'd try to do 900s off the living room wall. The positive and joyful impressions you guys made on so many have lasted a lifetime. Will the world ever have heroes like you guys were again....we can only pray. Thank you.
I have a 1985 Haro Freestyler for sale on CL in Punta Gorda Fl. The sale is going to pay for a RL just like this one. It was my favorite out of all bikes back in the day too not to mention it stood out because RL was the best rider who had the most class and talent. Awesome video guys.
I feel you man! I still get chills from the opening and closing of the movie. Shaped my childhood when everyone aroind me was playing football and basketball. No regrets.
Truly amazing story! Glad it all happened and I was able to watch it on RUclips! Haha. I myself own an 86’ RL20ii and it’s mostly because of the movie RAD!
When RL was doing backwards infinity rolls at comps he was riding a red and chrome RL 20 II. It's the first image that comes up on google, and I think RL also recently sold a photo print of the backwards infinity roll on a Red and chrome RL 20 II.
@donniebrasco4114 it's still out there, tucked away and in good hands. Hopefully it will make it to a bike show one of these days. Awesome ride for sure.
I lived in Simi Valley Ca in late 80’s. I fell in love with a yellow bike at the local bike shop. It was a golden yellow metallic color. My dad bought me that R L Osborne bike and I cherished it. I would give more than I should to have that bike today. I wish there was a registry to show who purchased etc.
I LOVE stories like this!! That thing is a CULTURAL ICON! Its like symbol of the era like a 80's 911 with the whale tale! AWESOME!! I remember watching RAD over and over again lusting over that bike, Im gonna go on record and say its my all time favorite - Great story - I'd kill for that thing!
Dustin Howell and I have talked about my 86 Cali red and we have both come to the same conclusion that I own the bike that the Rad bike parts went onto.
Amazing video!!! I remember wanting that bike SO BAD!!! As I've said before I wanted to be RL! I mimicked his riding style, watched his shows....Acquiring this bike is such an awesome find! Congrats to you- please put me on the top of your list if you ever feel the need to pass it on! 😉👍
I rode the living bejesus out of my rl20ii in the 80's/90's. Been looking at getting back on a BMX as a break from all the road biking. Holy moly, the price on even the Kastan repro frames is insanity. But I'm keeping an eye out.
Anyone know why they decided to go with a 5' headtube was the theory that a longer fork steerer tube would = a stronger front end ? I away's loved the single tube top that went from dropout wrapping around the headtube back to the other dropout creating the double top tube 👍👍🤘👍

I ordered my Hutch Trick Star directly from Woody when I hng out with Rick Moliterno. Rick worked at Bike works Schwinn in KC when he moved there. I used to hang out there with Rick and he was on Team Hutch then so he talked to Woody Daily. So I got to talk to Woody a bit and order a new Trick Star in Futuristic Black. Sold it in 87. ( :( ) I have tons of memorabilia like a letter from Dave Nouri, signatures on the back of the first Freestylin by Bob hato trck team and Bob Haro himself when he was still riding, tons of pictures of riding different tournaments. Tons of memories riding with Dennis McCoy in KC, Moliterno, Matt Hoffman, you name it I rode with them. Never RL though. I also rode a few competitions AFA in florida, texas,
To me, this is the Holy Grail of 80's BMX Bikes. What is the Holy Grail to you?
This one is defiantly one of my grails, as OG and the history that comes with it a true survivor. RL was innovative even in '85 with the "No Fear" sticker a lot of us used as motivation after the company No Fear Inc. was created in 1989. Love the content of the channel.
@RL Osborn Hey man great story I’m speechless. You did have some great bikes, the set ups too.
What are the chances of still seeing that bike, it could of been scrapped and recycled, stolen sprayed and exported to another country, lost in an old barn.

I hope you signed it for him

Man, when RL started name dropping at around 31:00-32:00, that brought back SO MANY memories!!!!
Marker 51:12 when you’re kneeling down and taking it in, my god was that an incredibly powerful and monumental BMX moment caught on film. FANTASTIC video guys!
I saved for 2 years to buy an 89 RL 20ii Team Model. All because I worshipped RL. This video makes me happy. 👍🏼
This is a cool story. Man, he went all the way on establishing provenance. Great job!
Yes Dustin is the real deal
fun fact, I was at that AFA contest in Portland. I think it was Tigard, Oregon. I was too scared to approach RL so instead I followed Scotty Freeman around and tried to show off. I regret both of those decisions lol.
Lol that is too funny
Portland ’88….Winkle and I drove up to that contest. We drove all night and he tried drinking a milkshake through his nose 😆 ….. good times!!
That was a great show. Monte Hill was our local sponsored rider, he did well in vert. 2nd if I recall.
What an amazing story and video. I really don't know how to put into words the feels it gives to see things like this. Thanks for posting. Your comment on the sport being a joint effort between the riders and the fans was great!
Thank you Erich and I really mean it.

What an awesome video, Rad memories!
Thank you Rob glad you enjoyed.
All the RL20IIs were made in Japan by Kuwamura so serial numbers started with R. RD 84 and RE 85.
Nope. By late 1985 all production was moved to Anlun in Taiwan. Anlun also built frames for Kuwahara. Maybe that’s where your confusion lies.
ATL checking in 🤙🏾. Dope detective work on this guy.
Thank you and yes this guy really did his homework
What an amazing trip down memory lane, thank you guys for sharing this story.
@rongabrieljr.8784 thanks for taking the time to watch it. Dustin

So Awesome!!! I love all of this! Such an amazing find!
Dustin did his research to find this bike so it is a well deserved find!
This is literally the best thing on the entire internet.

That would be very cool
I feel you man! I still get chills from the opening and closing of the movie. Shaped my childhood when everyone aroind me was playing football and basketball. No regrets.

He was a real Sherlock Holmes!
Truly amazing story! Glad it all happened and I was able to watch it on RUclips! Haha. I myself own an 86’ RL20ii and it’s mostly because of the movie RAD!

Hairless Harescrambler, yes another documented RAD screen used bike did surface earlier this year. There are now 3 known to exist.

Awesome
I love this!! Thanks for videoing and sharing it!!👍
RL had screw in pegs that were high on the fork. I don't see them.🕵️
Good eye, I'm looking for a pair if you hear of any for sale please lmk. Thanks.
Wow

RedLine RL20ii
Kuwahara ( can't remember model name )
Zeroline Ultra
Ozone ( can't remember the model name )

The front fork pegs are missing🤙

My first real B.m.X was a Redline P.L 20. Carrara totally inspired by R.L
I've always loved this bike too. Glad it rides on. Dyin' to know the price. I'm guessing 6g I bet Oz was talking about the Wendy's Crispy Nuggets commercial w you and Fred Blood. ruclips.net/video/TYljOcM0zgU/видео.html
Now Redline make nothing, the only brand making revolutionary frames now is Sunday
Did I miss it….. what is the serial number? 80’s BMX was the best.
The serial # was left out of the video intentionally to prevent future replicas being passed along as the real-deal.
So Rad! 🤙
The rl ii is the baddest bike ever ❤️
My RL20ii got stolen in 1997 from our jam space in the Downtown Eastside, irreplaceable.
Seriously tho, I wanna know HOW MUCH DID THIS BIKE COST?!?
My gess 20k for the bike
ok..not the only one who did the perm. 😆
51...and still riding
Nope, perms had their time and place no doubt. Unfortunately I don't have enough hair left in 2024 to pull one off haha.
So.....lol, how much is the bike worth now?
Bad ass. ‘BMX Action” was the code word in our neighborhood for making out with a chick. To be a kid in the early-mid 80’s was the best.
I kind of wish he gave the bike back to him
👍🏻👍🏻
Grail Freestyle Redline RL Osborn RAD bike.
For fucks sake...use a tripod!
Wtf ???
What am.awesome video, top drawer man , watching from 🏴
