Everyone's already gone into it in the comments, but Rocky not winning really helps the realism of the movie. Even if Apollo didn't train seriously, he was still the undefeated heavyweight champion who had never even been knocked down before. He was inevitably going to win against someone like Rocky who was struggling to beat amateurs just a few months ago. Any other fighter, especially at Rocky's skill level, would have been knocked out in the first few rounds. But with Rocky's hard work, determination, support from Adrian, and a superhuman ability to take 1000 punches to the face without getting knocked out, he was able to go 15 full rounds. He did what nobody else did before him. Rocky won in his own way without it being too farfetched.

Mick is usually misunderstood. People think he is trying to take advantage of the situation because he is not a good guy. He really respects the "Sweet Science". He was against Rocky first because Rocky was wasting his talent and not respecting the sport. He was really serious in his desire to protect this chance Rocky had.

Apollo won on points. That was Apollo's victory. Rocky had two victories: He went the distance with Apollo thus proving he was no ordinary boxer, and his other victory was he won Adrians love. In a way this is a love movie, not a boxing movie.

Brilliant filmmaking.

This movie was a huge surprise because Sylvester Stallone had done nothing other than a couple of character roles. He wrote the movie and shopped it around under the condition he would get to play the lead. It was a smash hit . It won theOscar for Best Picture. Stallone, Shire, Burgess Meredith and Burt Young were all nominated for Oscars. It was a real life underdog movie about an underdog.

  • @user-jb8qq9fk6m

In the film, Gazzo was not loaning Rocky money for training but giving him an outright gift. He was looking after him as would an older brother. In real life the actor who played Gazzo, Joe Spinell, was a close friend of Stallone and treated him in the same way giving and lending money to Stallone when he was broke as a struggling actor. He was also godfather to two of Stallone's children. Spinell played Willi Cicci in Godfather I and II and also the character Lt. Spinell in the 1980 film "The Ninth Configuration", the theological and philosophical sequel by William Peter Blatty to his 1973 film "The Exorcist". It has a story arc from a minor character from the first work but has nothing to do with exorcisms.

I spoke to him a few times and he's a real down to earth regular guy who likes joking around once he gets to know you. I don't think he was a pro boxer though. I know he was on the Marine boxing team when he was in the Marines though and from what I heard, if he and Stallone ever boxed during the time they filmed Rocky, Stallone would've had no chance.

We ran a course through the park that ended with a hill beside a local high school. I was never a great runner, so during my first test when I got to that hill I thought I was going to die. But the high school marching band was practicing and just as I started up the hill they started playing the "Gonna Fly Now" theme from Rocky. I was never so motivated to finish that run as strong as possible.

Paulie was a typical older brother that was born in the 1930s. While his methods are cruel today, he actually did her a favor by helping toughening her up and, together with Rocky, start bringing her out of her shell and away from ultra-shyness, which is what she wanted to do but was afraid. Paulie has his moments in this series.

Fun Facts: Star Wars and Rocky were released into theaters 6 months apart. Star Wars changed special effects and legitimizing the sci fi genre as legit. Rocky the steady cam was invented for. Before cameras were big and had to be mounted on a vehicle or a rail system. This is why we get the iconic stair run and intimacy of the fight.

I agree with everything you said, except... The Steadicam was used in two other films before it was used in Rocky - Bound for Glory and Marathon Man. It wasn't actually invented for Rocky. Rocky is often cited as the first use of a Steadicam, probably because they used it more prominently than the films before. So it's a common misconception.

This is a rags to riches story about a boxer Rocky Balboa. Rooting for the underdog. The American dream of making it big. And in a classic case of life imitating art, so is the story of Sylvester Stallone, who was a poor down on his luck actor before this movie made him a star. The movie itself won the Academy award for best picture beating out some really good movies that same year.

Great reaction, VERDY. Although this one was before my time, I LOVE it. And the thing to remember about this movie is that it was made on a very low budget and shot in only 28 days of filming. Sylvester Stallone was an unknown, but he wrote the script, and somehow not just convinced a studio to finance it, but he also convinced them to let him play a role in the movie (not just any role...the TITLE role). Anyway, the end result garnered multiple Oscar nominations and ended up winning the Oscar for Best Picture.
Btw, this was also the movie that created the 'Workout montage' with the music in movies. Before this movie, filmmakers didn't see it necessary to show the athletes working out in different inter-cutting scenes, since they thought it would bore the audience...lol. But Stallone changed all of that making sure that there was an inspirational workout montage in the movie, the very first of its kind. Now pretty much every movie in this genre uses a similar workout-with-music montage.

Most people don't know this but...Burt Young who plays Paulie was actually a much better boxer than Sylvester Stalone. Burt Young accumulated a military boxing record of 32-2 while in the Marines. He then turned pro under the name Burt ‘Paulie’ Young and went 17-0 under the legendary boxing trainer Cus D’Amato (trainer of Mike Tyson, Floyd Patterson, and Jose Torres). The word "bum" in terms of this movie is another word for a loser in life. Nobody wants to be a loser in life, but this is how Rocky felt at the start. The truth is Adrian and Paulie also feel like they are failures too, but once Adrian and Rocky become a couple they lift each other up. Without her he could have never risen up. Paulie felt left behind.
This movie reflected Sylvester Stallone's real life when he wrote it. He was dirt poor and struggling, feeling very bad about his life. He actually had to give his dog away, because he couldn't afford to take care of him. When he sold his movie the first thing he did was buy his dog back. That dog was Butkus in this movie. That is he real dog. He put him into the movie, because he wanted him to be a part of it.

Kool Reaction to this Classic..... These are my Standard Comments, So some might have been mentioned....
The "Rocky" Movies are movies about Relationships and Personal Growth, with a little Boxing thrown in......
Butkis was actually his dog, he had sold the dog before the movie beacuse he was broke, and bought it back when he got the movie deal.......
The scene where Rocky points out the shorts are the wrong color, was added cause the printer messed up the poster/prop and they didn't have enough money left in the budget to correct it, Same thing with Rocky's robe being the wrong size..... So they wrote in dialogue to address it.....
The Creed Movies happen after the Rocky Movies, the Creed Character is Apollo's Son......

It is actually better that he didn’t win. It’s more realistic. He tried his hardest and he went the distance. In that sense he actually did win

The shots following Rocky up the Art Museum steps was the first use of SteadyCam invented and operated by a Philadelphia filmmaker Garret Brown.

Sorry to be the mythbuster here but that isn't actually true. The Steadicam was first used for a film called Bound For Glory the same year. Following that it was used in Marathon Man before it was used to film scenes for Rocky. Rocky is often cited as the first use of a Steadicam since it was more prominently used - particularly to add dynamic shots to the training montage scene.

Funny that you picked out the Converse shoes for running in. A lot of reactors these days actually do pick up on that lol. Yep, that's what we used to run in, play basketball in, play tennis and. LMAO

😺Verdy!!! 😺 You got it! Mickey did see something in Rocky! @EOMReacts said: "You don't get that mad at someone you don't care about." Rocky 2 is way better! Thank you 😺Verdy!!!😺

Wonderful reaction ❤️ So looking forward to the next! I like the ending. Even we want Rocky to win and just barely doesn't andcthats by a decision so it's much more realistic than is typical for an American film which usually has the hero win.

If somehow you ever saw the old Batman tv show from the 60's, Mickey played the penguin in that. LOL. I remember when I saw this with my buddies in the movies we were all laughing at that. Apollo is acting like Muhammad Ali. The actor just died a few months ago. A round is 3 minutes.
Apollo is saying "I" talian like that because he is sort of being wise guy. It's A very small insult. Something you would say to a friend to tease him. Like calling someone with glasses four eyes.
"He's running in Converse." In 1976, they were the best running shoes. LOL. I mean literally, them and Pro Keds were the top of the line sneakers.
If you liked this you need to watch at least the first 3 or 4 Rocky movies. They are all pretty good but the first 3 or 4 are the best in my opinion. There are a lot of Rocky movies.

Inside tip from the editor: Her Rocky II reaction kicks arse. I can't wait to edit it. Unfortunately there are a couple of films before it on the schedule. Of course, if you can't wait, she has a Patreon.

Great reaction I say the word Italian the same way you do Verdy. The way he pronouces the word is odd. Please react to Rocky II because it picks up right where you left off in the Rocky movie. Cheers from Texas.
